KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Dublin
When you travel to Dublin, consider getting a car rental to benefit from your trips fully. Dublin car rentals offer the best way to adventure the city's most vibrant locations without depending on third-party transportation services. While the city has an excellent public transport system, you may not reach certain destinations via public transport. For instance, art lovers who wish to sightsee at Henry Cowell Redwood State Park Campground, 59.4 miles from the city center, can conveniently get there via car in about 1h 13min instead of 3h 24min by BART and bus.
If you are flying into Dublin, you’ll likely land at Oakland Airport (OAK), 15.3 miles from the city center. Consider getting your car rentals in Dublin at the airport. Some car rental agencies have desks at the airport terminal, while others offer pick-up services. Also, other rental companies provide shuttle services for car rental pick-up locations. The popular agencies at the airport include Fox, Budget, Enterprise, Alamo, Hertz, and Dollar. Book your car online to avoid long queues at the rental desks.
When driving your car rentals in Dublin, expect to encounter jaywalkers. Although the practice is illegal in the city, pedestrians crossing the roads without signaling is common. Drive carefully to avoid hitting them because you don't want to get yourself in trouble, even if they're on the wrong side of the law. Another obstacle worth your attention is cyclists on the city streets. Being a bicycle-friendly city, expect cyclists when driving your car rental in Dublin. They often disregard traffic light rules. Be cautious to avoid hitting them.
Like other California cities, Dublin experiences considerable traffic snarl-ups, especially during rush hours. Expect morning rush hours to begin at 7:00 am to 10:00 am, and the evening rush hours start from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. If possible, avoid traveling during these times of the day. Public commuter areas are also worth avoiding during these times because they are brimming with cars and human traffic.

The rental agent was extremely rude and disrespectful, and almost unhelpful. She should not be customer facing if she intends to treat customers poorly.

The car was dinged up significantly and noisy for a hybrid. It did not handle well. In the online reservation process I thought I was buying full coverage from the rental company but it was fromi a third party...that was confusing and not what I wanted. I didn't appreciate that. I would have had to pay more for the rental car coverage. The onsite staff. was very nice and professional . The only good part of this experience. .
