KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Everett
Tucked along Puget Sound, just north of Seattle, the city of Everett presents many opportunities for outdoor exploration, including the wetland preservation area, Horwath Park, and Spencer Island Park, not to mention the lake regions east of the city. Rather than rely on bus infrastructure to get around, having a car rental in Everett gives you the autonomy to travel at your leisure and reach off-the-beaten-path locations. With a car, you can also bring picnics, equipment or spare rain jackets in preparation for whatever weather the Pacific Northwest throws at you. Also, since Everett is just a little more than half an hour north of Seattle, a personal vehicle gives you the opportunity to take a day trip to the city. You’ll have no need to worry about catching a train or a bus back to Everett—you can leave as late as you want.
Most people will pick up their Everett car rental when they arrive at Paine Field Airport (PAE) or at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). If you’ve booked a vehicle for pick-up at PAE, you’ll find desks for car rental companies—including Hertz, Enterprise, Avis, and Budget—located in the Ground Transportation Building just to the right of the Passenger Terminal as you’re exiting the building toward the parking lots. At SEA, there are also several rental car companies. To find them, head to the lower level of the terminal toward the baggage claim. Just outside the building, at both the north and south end, there are passenger pick-up locations for free shuttle buses that will transport you to the stand-alone rental car facility.
Everett has an active downtown area with a robust network of passenger buses providing public transportation. These buses take wide turns and make several stops. While driving downtown, you’ll want to pay special attention to buses signaling turns, lane changes, or indicating that they are about to stop to let passengers disembark.
If you have flexibility with your daily schedule, you’ll want to try to plan around the rush hours in Everett. Commutes peak in the city between about 5:30am and 8am each morning. In the afternoon and into the evening, you’ll find the roads congested again, specifically between about 2pm and 6pm.
There are many locations to collect cheap car rentals in Everett, depending on your specific needs and preferences. If you are flying into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and plan to rent a car to explore Everett and the surrounding areas, the airport is a convenient place to pick up your Everett car rental. When I booked the car over the phone, the sales agent told me I’d get a discount if I showed them my State Farm card when we picked up the vehicle. However, that discount was not honored.
The only issue I had was I was given an electric car, which was fine, but when I inquired about charging it before I drop it off, I was told to not worry about charging it. I asked if I would get charged for not charging it (no pun intended) I was told I would not. But I ended up being charged money by Avis in SeaTac because I did not have the car charged, but I called, Avis in Everett and they reimbursed the monetary charge. Shout out to them!

Everything was great until I checked my credit card statement. I’ve been overcharged, now trying to sort it out!
There was delay to pick up. Not clear with actual time of pickup. There was no one ask me if I returned the key. I have to FedEx the key to avoid being charged. And the person who looked at the gas was not correct.

Charged me $99 for something and I can’t even view my e receipt to figure out what. I returned the car clean and with a full tank, I can’t imagine what they charged me for.

Pros:
The agent at pick up was the most efficient ever worked with. He checked in 3-4 customers in less than 10 minutes. Usually the paper work and upsells are cumbersome when you just want to get on the road.
Cons:
Did not get a receipt which was supposed to be emailed.
Gave me a bigger car than I reserved. I was happy with the extra space.
Cons:
I was late to my pickup and they called me telling me that my suv was ‘first come first serve basis’ that there was someone in the lobby needing an suv. So if you didn’t have enough cars available then why allow us to rent that specific vehicle size? It’s called a reservation for a reason. I paid for that size to be reserved for me.
Everett office was closed after the booking was made and National refused to honor the reservation at nearby rental locations. National never notified me of the closure and I only found out when I tried to call the office. A new booking with a different agency had to be made on short notice at thrice the cost. Extremely bad customer service!
