I don’t set the bar very high for car rental experiences, but this was the worst I’ve ever had. I waited almost an hour and a half for my car with only three others in line. The issue was that Hertz removed chip readers from their card scanners. They were blaming multiple credit card declines on each customers. I almost was not able to rent my vehicle because of an issue with their card readers. I was not the only customer with this issue. I was offered (and paid for) one vehicle, and once everything was closed out they had me wait for my car. Finally, they pulled up with a different vehicle entirely. This was an unacceptable experience. Everyone in the location was friendly, but frankly brain dead.Reviewed May 28 2024

Advance check in was easy. I rented via car rentals.com. That was a pain since you can't contact hertz directly if you have an issue with a late plane or canceled flight to tell them you aren't coming. Did save a bunch of money with prepay.Reviewed May 28 2024

I showed up with a prepaid reservation, ID and forms of payment, and even went to the trouble of checking in online. I spent 2:30 hours in front of the counter and on hold with Hertz customer support before we finally figured out the issue their system was having and got me my car. It was an absolute nightmare. The car was filthy, the polstry was disgustingly stained from previous customers on all seats in that car, the interior stank so bad I had to put an air freshener to cover it up, the steering wheel was sticky by touching, the car was giving to me with a maintenance due soon and 15% oil life left, the backsplash wiper was broken. In Germany they would never ever have given me a car in that condition! But I have to give credit for the staff in Watertown after they issued me my ticket for the car and the wrong payment was on it to solve that issue to the price I booked.Reviewed May 28 2024

Horror movie. There were no cars available. No one wanted to be responsible. Hertz tried to charge 2x the price. Kayak never responded to phone calls, emails, chat messages or messages via the website. Hertz made me move to 3 other locations where they might had cars. It was not true. I spent tons on money on Ubers. Then they told me to wait one more day to pick up the car. I waited and spent one extra night in Chicago. No cars again! Worst experience ever and lack of professionalism from both Hertz and Kayak. Absolute nightmare!Reviewed May 28 2024
