red carpet inn is the most accessible and practical place to stay when you visit the u.s.navy base in great lakes, il chicago. none that i could think of, because we only stayed for a short time to attend the u.s navy ceremony/graduation at great lakes, il.
The beds were too soft, to the point that both my wife and I backs were sore in the morning. There was a fold up spare bed in the corner of the room. we didn't request it but I took a look at it and saw that there was clumps of hair on it, as if an animal had used it last. The toilet was problematic, the chain inside was too long for the handle and it constantly was getting caught in the opening, so the the water would continue to try to fill the tank. I noticed once that it ran like that for almost an hour, until I fixed it. We did request a non smoking room, didn't notice any smells, but there were burn holes in the blankets.
Staff were very helpful and accommodating, shuttle service to Navy graduation was quick and easy. Location was easy to find and convenient for graduation. While everything in the hotel was thrift store quality, the bed was comfy, the water was hot, and the heater in the room worked fine. This hotel is definitely being used as a cash cow by the owners. First let me say that we didn't have high expectations based on the reviews of others. Yes, the sheets had holes in them, there was a light bulb missing in the room, and there was mildew in the grout around the tub. The painting contractor didn't clean up his goofs with the roller so there were interesting dark red marks on the tub, shower curtain, and wall. The toilet paper holder was broken and the floor under the toilet was soft so the toilet was a bit wobbly (and was clogged when we got there, but a plunger solved that problem in short order). Having said that, the desk and cleaning staff do their utmost to ensure guests are as well cared for as they can. I've received poorer service from $300/night hotels.
The staff was fantastic. The room was really clean and newly remodeled which was a plus. I ony have two small complaints, one is the location, it's a pain to get in and out, because of the road with a center median. And their parking lot was not connected to the row of places next door, which was a bummer. My second complaint is that the heater was a hit or miss. At one point it was so hot you couldn't breathe. Then the next it was so cold.
The only positive I can say about our stay at this hotel is we received one of the recently remodeled rooms and it wasn't nearly as gross as the rest of the hotel. The room itself was clean and the bathroom was recently remodeled. However, the rest of the hotel is a different story. The halls smell of a mix between mold and garbage, the carpet is dirty and upon exploring the entire hotel there are halls with exposed pipes, minimal lighting, and broken doors. While walking around we passed a conference room with the door propped open, when we looked inside it was clear a party had taken place and the entire room was strewn with half empty liquor bottles and garbage. The hallway to the pool is covered in what seems to be saw dust (even though I saw no construction going on the entire time we were there) and has a busted window as well as the pool area having a busted sliding glass door. The secured back door #3 was broken and propped open slightly allowing anyone to mosey into the hotel. One hallway off the lobby has a huge cut out in the ceiling exposing rusty water pipes, and according to the OSHA paperwork hanging on the wall below it, asbestos debris that fall out of this hole. This hotel also does not appear to be in a great area in town either with apartment buildings directly behind the parking lot. Overall we lucked out considerably with the 'executive' room, however everything just felt kind of gross and super neglected. I would highly recommend looking at literally any other hotel in the area.
Close to everything, specially the mall and all the nice restaurants.
Couldn't beat the price and very close to attractions. The breakfast was horrible.
This hotel was a nightmare. It looks like that should be charging by the hour. Our room had black hair all in the bathroom and the phone didn't even work in our room. The whole hotel smelled awful. I wouldn't let my dogs stay at this hotel.
Nothing walked out asked for a full refund and went somewhere else to stay. This is not 3 stars This place is nasty, dirty , smelled horrendous
Had bed bugs in our first room!!! Moved to another room, only slept in there for 4 hours, got bit all up, Checked out!!!! Calling corporate today.... Ramada should not have their name attached to this hotel Bed bugs!!! Dirty.... moldy... smell.
Swimming pool was large; Bed was comfortable; TV was good quality. This place wasn't terrible considering the $62 price, but I would never stay here again. I feel like if the people from Ramada corporate had the experience I had they would pull the franchise immediately. Power outlet dangling from wall in room; moldy tub; ice machine had carpet in hallway soaked; hot tub was not working; no towels in pool area; hallway smelled like armpit; continental breakfast was pretty nasty (fruit was shriveled); exterior door did not lock.
Nothing Wouldn't give extra towels or extra blanket. Went to get snacks and had to have exact change only. Pictures look nice, but it wasn't.
The beds were comfy The lack of soap in bathroom, no heat in pool, no towels at pool. Pretty wrecked
Overall a good experience
3 beds in a very large room, and the location to six flags Old and very run down. They have updated the lobby, but that is it. It appears to me that they have allowed the property to deteriorate beyond repair and that the property will probably have to be torn down. They gave us vouchers for breakfast, so I thought we had something to look forward to, but it was awful.
Nothing, they refused my reservation even after I showed confirmation of reservatio and proof that the room had been paid for Nothing. Terrible service and all but one employee was extremely rude. I want someone in charge to give me a call. My number is 920-255-1053. If you don't call me I will be calling you.
They nickle-and-dimed us on everything, including late checkout.
Awesome arcade, the waterpark was pretty good and our room was beautiful. Kids had an great time. Our bathroom did not have a lock or a fan. Also the there was no microwave in our room either.
I think the resort is a little "pricey", which doesn't accommodate an occasional last minute family getaway.
I thought this place was awesome! The watermark was a little small but it's an indoor water park and I understand that. Staff was friendly. Room was very clean and comfortable. Great experience and will definitely go again!
Hours of relaxation for me while kids played like crazy in the water and never got bored!
The indoor water park was pretty. The 4th floor elevator did not work. Had to walk down to 3rd floor to call for the unit. Room service left trash cans full, used wash cloth on the floor. Service personnel were ill informed.
Staff responded immediately to my complaint about the naked toddler. Most staff was very friendly. The pool area was very loud at night, there was a naked toddler walking around the pool crying.
Honestly there was nothing good about this place. I went here with my family and 2 were little children. We had gotten charged with 250$ fee for smoking when everyone was non smokers. They wouldn't listen to us. They were very rude and ignorant. Would not recommend this stay! The employees be little you and make you feel Not welcomed what so ever. We were all non smokers and I felt like we were treated like criminals.
The service was extraordinary. By far some of the best I have experianced.
Clean, comfortable, safe.
the staff was excellent went for navy graduation, staff did great job! all was great
Loved everything about this hotel from the staff to the cleanliness of the hotel. Great rooms and excellent location.
The best thing about this hotel it its location, its surroundings have great places to eat and it right behind a superstore for purchasing supplies while you stay. The guest Landry is small, only has a single washer and dryer. The way the staff handled my billing and checkout caused me to have problems with this hotel and will probably percent me from returning.
We were in the Chicago area for our son's graduation ceremony from Navy basic training. (The hotel's location is excellent for this.) We booked two rooms, one for our family (me, my wife, and our younger son) and one for my wife's sister. Her room was directly across from ours. We arrived on Thursday in time for the very good buffet (free!) including beer and wine. The free breakfast buffet served every day was also very good, including pecans for the DIY waffle iron (every one turned out perfect!) Scrambled eggs, sausage, SOS (I was in the service also some years ago), oatmeal (I am not an oatmeal fan, but it was good enough that I had it twice), cereal, juice - it was all very good, as was the plentiful coffee. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, and everything was very clean. We did not use the kitchen except the last night when we kept our doggy-bag pizza in the fridge and then heated it up in the microwave for lunch on Sunday before heading for the airport. This hotel really helped us keep our food expenses down! If we had stayed any longer I would have stocked the fridge with drinks and snacks, as the prices in the Snack Bar next to the front desk are pretty high. The one problem we had with the room (a clogged toilet) was handled within five minutes of our calling the front desk. A very nice guy showed up with a plunger and solved the problem quickly. Five minutes after he left, the front desk called to make sure the problem was handled to our satisfaction. Excellent customer service! The only other issue is some minor problems with traffic noise, but we all slept fine. Highly recommended!
This is a great hotel, especially if you are attending a Navy graduation. Very nice room with small kitchen and polite staff. Good breakfast. There's a happy hour that looked good, but we didn't attend. WalMart and restaurants close by. Pool and sport court available in season.
This hotel was perfect for our needs. My husband and I traveled to see our son graduate from Navy boot camp, and we picked this hotel for its location and amenities. Upon a late arrival, we we were greeted quickly at the front desk, and we were asked our floor preference, which I appreciated. We were given a special information package just for Navy families with local restaurant info, distances, graduation tips, shuttle info etc. Our room was spacious, clean, smelled fresh, and had all the expected amenities. We were able to control the room temperature to our liking. Daily housekeeping was discreet and timed for our absences. Plenty of hot water for showers. We used the internet connection and had no problems getting that going. The breakfast buffet was excellent. There was a selection of complimentary newspapers available daily. The staff was all friendly and helpful. I wish it was in season for the (outdoor) pool, but we traveled in March. The outdoor facilities looked nice, though: Pool, basketball hoop, barbecue area. Plenty of safe, well lit parking, and key card access at all remote entrances. We were very pleased with this hotel and would use it again if we were in the area.
We were looking for a decent place to stay for 4 or 5 days as close to Great Lakes Naval Base as possible as our son was graduating from bootcamp. After reading reviews on many hotels in the area we chose the Residence Inn in Waukegan because of all the great reviews, because they have rooms w/ kitchens & they are only about 10 minutes away from the Naval Base. Another plus was instead of booking 2 rooms for my husband, myself and our 2 just over 18 yr. old daughters we were able to book a 2 bdrm suite which saved us some$. We traveled from Chico, CA to arrive at the hotel around 6:30 pm, cold and exhausted. I went in to check in & was greeted by 2 friendly employees. The process took only a few minutes. They did put a hold on $* on my cc for incidentals which we got back all of a few days after we left. As I was handed our key cards the smiling young woman gestured towards an adjoining room saying that a complimentary meal of meatloaf & mashed potatoes, etc was available & we should feel free to go on in. We did. After traveling all night & day it was nice to have a hot meal waiting- no extra cost. They also have a complimentary breakfast every morning with stuff like Belgian waffles w/ strawberries & whip cream, biscuits & gravy, eggs, fruit, etc also no extra cost. Our room was great, like an apartment , each bedroom had it's own full bathroom, the beds were wonderful. Internet access- wi-fi or ethernet. Flat screen tv in ea room & in living room. Kitchen equipped w/ utensils. Clean, well maintained, lg bath towels, great! Would definitely stay again & recommend highly!
Comfy room for 4 adults with kitchenette. Well stocked self-serve breakfast with many different options. Eggs, Self made Belgian waffles, potatoes, bacon, sausage, cereals, fruit, muffins, juices, coffee with your favorite creamers. Simply Splendid. Residence Inn will be my only choice on future trips! 6 miles to Navy base for graduations. Easy trip to main gate.
We booked this hotel because of our son's graduation from Boot Camp in Great Lakes. We arrived in the afternoon the day before, check- in was fast and easy. Our room was perfect. There were four in our party, and the girls took the sleeper sofa. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We required additional towels every day and they were delivered with a smile to our door. One daughter needed her room key replaced because it was scratched and didn't work and that wasn't a problem either. We ate the continental breakfast and it has to be one of the best I have ever had. The food was hot, the choices were plentiful and the breakfast bar was continually being filled so that no one went without something they wanted. Check out was fast and easy also. I would definitely stay in this hotel again and I would recommend it to my friends if they were in the area.
I came here to see my husbands Navy graduation and I will say this is one of the best places to stay. Not only was the room wonderful but the staff were excellent. The staff here were very friendly with all my questions I had the area. Especially since it was my first time in that area. They had everything you need from maps to sites for Navy graduation to leisure activities. They also had a little mini-grocery if you needed that little something for your room. And a big advantage you felt safe. I felt at ease with my stay there. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone needing a wonderful pleasant stay!!! And I do plan on coming back again!!
While the staff was not that great, the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The price that I payed for it was more than worth it and made up for the unhelpful staff. I did not have breakfast there, but it looked decent and the internet access was pretty fast. Defiantly a good stay.
We went to Chicago to see my son graduate from navy basic training. This is the best hotel have ever stayed in.
We stayed here to visit my son who is in the Navy. Your hotel met our needs. I wanted to cook my son a home cooked meal. Your hotel (kitchenette) supplied everything I needed to cook. Your staff were awesome! Will definitely come back and highly recommend to others. Thanks for the excellent services! We really appreciate your customer services
EXCELLENT STAFF, EXCELLENT RESPONSE TO ANY REQUEST. DELICIOUS COOKIES WERE A NICE TOUCH IN THE LOBBY. AS WELL AS THE COFFEE. NOTHING , EVERYTHING AS GREAT, AND YES I WOULD BOOK AGAIN WHEN IN AREA.
Clean, new, fresh, great shower, great staff. Dinner in lobby restaurant was very good and reasonable. Free cookies were a nice touch. There is also a little store in the lobby to get smaller food items and forgotten travel items. I am a huge stickler for smells and this hotel smells great! Very minor: beds were not real comfortable and not sure why. They are adjustable but I had a sore back in the morning. No free breakfast, although they have a very nice casual restaurant in lobby. Breakfast buffet was around $12 I think. For kids it was $5.99 I think. They had a cold bar breakfast option for a lower price. We ate dinner there and it was really good and fairly reasonable.
Bed was very comfortable and clean. Great to have a fridge and microwave. TV was a great size. I don't like when the cleaning service knocks on my door 2 hours before checkout.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable after a long day of traveling with an infant. I really liked that if you forgot or couldn't pack an amenity like a razor, you could go down to the front desk and ask for a complimentary one. The location is great too, not far from all the attractions in the area. I also appreciated that check out was at noon. That we couldn't stay longer, haha.
Breakfast was free & the rooms were clean They pool was outside.
clean and friendly service
Very reasonable price. Friendly staff, comfy beds, great breakfast! Nothing.
The fact that the hotel was close to Great America
The title says it all. We are a family of Type-A neat freaks, and my mother sent my sister and I with her black light equipment to check the cleanliness of the room. There were some small spots here and there near the bathroom (weird spots that may get overlooked for cleaning like the ceiling and a light switch), but not anywhere in the sleeping section of the room. Sheets, pillows, and comforters were spotless. The cleanliness and general upkeep of the rooms made for a very comfy stay- we could hardly get out of bed to do more exploring the next day. I only stayed in this hotel for one night, so I may not have experienced as much as I could. The lady at the front desk could have been a little more friendly and personable, but the rest of the staff was very nice.
Over all was a good stay it was only over night stay clean place good staff close to the mall as well as other business and restaurants Didn't like the fact majority of parking is for diamond members also the beds where extremely uncomfortable as well as pillows also the vent in the restroom went non stop and was loud either than that over all good stay
Great breakfast. Staff kind and engaging. Comfortable bed. Many loud young people, late into the nights. Not okay for business travelers with appointments the next day.
The only hotel I've stayed that doesn't have a safe in the room or a refrigerator and I've stayed at many over the years.
I will put it this way, it was a lot better than my stay at the Hard Rock hotel in Chicago! I will definatly be staying there again in the future.
Great staff! Bartender was amazing. Front desk was friendly. I'll be back. Tacos were average. Breakfast was terrible. Pancakes were under cooked. Eggs were soggy.
Clean and convenient Little pricey
The staff at the front desk was very kind. There was a younger girl who didn't seem like she knew very much of what she was doing but there was another girl, Rose I think, who was very knowledgable and accommodating. When I got to the hotel, there was kids running and screaming in the lobby. It was very loud and parents were just letting their kids run around as they please. Two almost hit me, but being so close to Six Flags, it is understandable that this is more of a family location. I checked in and they sent me to my room, when I got there, neither of my key cards worked. I put my bags down and tried again, figuring I may have tried too quickly. As I was trying again, I heard someone cough in the room. Went back downstairs to the lobby and the front desk called the room, only to find they had a mix up and someone was in the room...thank god my key card did not work and I didn't walk in on someone! They gave me a new room and once again my key card didn't work (their system for assigning cards was not working well). Had to have maintenance follow me up to my room so he could check the problem. We finally got in my room with his key, only to find out it was a double bed room when I requested a king bed, so once again...had to go back down to the lobby. Upon my return, Rose was very apologetic and said she was very embarrassed. She upgraded my room, gave me two drink cards for the hotel restaurant as well as a dinner card. She definitely made the situation much better and she handled it professionally. It was quite a long and irritating situation but Rose handled it well and made the necessary steps to make it better.
The location was great. The staff was excellent. Our room was clean. The staff was very friendly taking you to and picking you up from Six Flags. The walls were too thin....could hear all of the bathrooms nearby. The breakfast was included in our price but it would have been too expensive otherwise. The rates were too high overall.....I guess you are paying for the location.
My son and I came with our dog for hockey showcase. It was close to the rink, food, shops, highway and forest preserve was a bonus! I was able to walk dog safely and go for a run. Hotel was clean and staff were very friendly and helpful.
I love Residence Inn. The rooms are always clean and comfortable and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Good free breakfast, free WiFi, close to Great America, late morning check-out, indoor pool Our room kind of smelled like someone had been smoking in it
We liked the location to six flags great America, and the free continental breakfast. Our room looked like it needed an overhaul. There were places where the paint was chipped and it was painted over. The metal on the sprinkler system was rusting and even leaving some rusty streaks on the wall. Our friends had a non smoking room and said it was horribly smelling like smoke.
The people there were great. The beds where small.
Place is clean. The recipionist was very nice. Morning breakfast was great. Looks like they have some remodeling going on in the hallway that made the place look less classy. Middle of the night around 3 am some guests in the rooms next to mine were very very loud and I don't think anyone said anything to them.
The location was perfect, the rooms were immaculate, and the pool/hot tub area was an added bonus. No problems whatsoever.
The closeness to the outlet malls is the reason we booked here. Been to LaQuinta before and liked them. The hallway odor very uncomfortable. I would probably not go back to this motel because ofmthis issue.
GOOD LOCATION AS LONG AS YOU DON'T MIND IT NOT BEING CLEAN... POOL/JACUZZI WAS DISGUSTING THERE WAS SCUM AND MOLD GROWING ON THE WALLS OF THE POOL, IN FILTERS, AROUND WINDOWS. THE TOP OF THE POOL LOOKED LIKE THE WATER WAS SOLID THAT HASN'T BEEN CLEANED IN MONTHS. MY HUSBAND BROUGHT IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE FRONT OFFICE BUT THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO!!!! HALLS/ELEVATOR REEKED OF SMOKE...
Good rate Old facility needs updating
Very clean and close to six flags very friendly and helpful staff. Was really pretty decent over all no complaints
Nothing fancy but clean, comfortable, and well maintained.
Comfort Inn was clean & comfortable. They had a pool, hot tub & breakfast included. The staff was friendly and checked in on me during my stay. Room was a little small and bed could have been a little more comfortable.
Excellent value and quality facility. We stayed here because it was close to Great Lakes Navel Training Center. As a bonus it's within walking distance of a BassPro Shop and huge shopping mall. This location was perfect for anyone attending Graduation at GLTC.
While checking in the employee who helped us was very friendly as well as helpful.
Everything was clean nice and well kept up. The staff behind the front desk would do anything to make us comfortable and very welcoming, loved the hospitality we got from the desk staf. The only thing I did not like was how rude the maintenance man was, he has glasses and long dark hair, he was very rude and would not give a time or day to help you and if he did it was like out was going to kill him to do something and the do not disturb sign doesn't mean nothing to him, he still knocked on our door at 8:30 in the morning a few times and lid we had a13 month old little girl that was asleep till he did that. Sorry if you don't like your job then quit don't take it out on your paying customers.
The hotel was relatively clean. The bathroom area and sink was nice. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was pretty good. Shower was nice and the air conditioner in our room was nice. The bed was horribly uncomfortable. The room was small, but not awful. We found a dried booger on our sheets. Which is pretty gross. The pillows were even worse than the bed!
The staff was so helpful they had shuttle lists, and restaurant lists printed out for us with address and times they took great care of all of the military families.
Friendly staff. Close to Rosalind Franklin U, the school at which I was interviewing. Too expensive. Spent the same amount on this hotel as I did at the Talbott in downtown Chicago.
Very clean hotel room. Staff was very friendly. Complimentary breakfast was great. It's conveniently located near Gurnee Mills Mall. There are many stores to shop and eat at along Grand Avenue. Six Flags is a short walk from hotel less then 1/2 mile (no need to drive to the amusement park so you can save on the high parking fee). I wish the swimming pool was bigger. Hot tub was non-functional.
I was only there one night Where to start? The couch had two gigantic, greasy butt stains on each cushion. Everything felt damp Charged twice for room and still trying to resolve it Deadbolt didn't lock
The Front Desk worker was very nice and helpful. The AC in the room was not able to get the temperature below what felt like 79, and the bed was not very comfortable.
Close to Great America The elevator has an EXPIRED safety inspection certification! The sofa in my room (211) had what appeared to be blood stains on it. The room across the hall kept me up all night (small children being load.. At 3am!) and the vending machines didn't work (ate my money).
Close to where we had to be during day Breakfast area way too crowded! One door entry like a fire hazard
