Beautiful interior and exterior, pool and related facilities were generously appointed. Small room (even the "deluxe" room). Comfortable bed, but not THAT comfortable; my bed at home is much more so. There is a charge for every single thing... $16 a day for internet access is a joke, $36 a day for valet parking, $18 for a small pour cocktail at the bar. If I had it to do again, I'd stay somewhere else and visit the Chateau. Unless you are loaded and the money means nothing to you, I'd suggest the same.
The hotel is in the best location for someone wanting to see different parts of Quebec City. The staff is very well trained and seems to try to exceed expectations. This is a gorgeous historic hotel that has been extensively renovated. The pool and spa, all the restaurants, etc. are at or above the standards of what you will find in more modern luxury hotels. Based on my experience, I would recommend staying in one of the traditional decor rooms (preferably beginning 62##). Initially, we were offered an upgrade to one of the remodeled rooms, but we thought the window was very small and the room felt rather claustrophobic. So, we asked to be put back in the traditional decor, unrenovated rooms and found it to be much larger and comfortable with a double window and a great view. Of course, these two rooms (out of the 600 in the hotel) likely were not representative of all the remodeled/traditional room layouts. Just my experience.
All staff was very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with.
The hotel staff is very professional and helpful, and location is close to most travel attractions. It's a landmark hotel with signifiant history. None
Wonderful location, elegant hotel with great view and nice bar. No concierge available much of the time. Elevator not always operating.
Location, architecture, overall experience, elegance, staff readiness to please, convenience Phones in the room didn't work, dental kit took too long to get delivered,
Staying in a historic building in a great city. Didn't touch the car for 4 days. Great dining both in and around the hotel at a number of spots. Unbelievable views. Only that I didn't plan on a longer stay.
Beautiful hotel, friendly and super accommodating staff. Wish we had more time to use the pool and to relax at the lounge area by the pool. It is close o all. We will go back again. Parking is pricy. We got complimentary water the first day and then no more afterwards. Water is $8 a bottle in the room! Lobby could use some updating.
The renovated room and view We were first provided a non renovated room that was not clean, requires a lot of maintenance. Our AC didn't work, ceiling and the mirror lights didn't work. On the 2nd day we informed the desk while heading out in the morning. The issues were not rectified upon our return. We called again prior to leaving for dinner. Upon our return, we noticed the lights were fixed but the AC didn't work all night. Neither was any follow through from the hotel regarding the issues. No follow up call to the room to check on us. Not a luxury service. On the 3rd morning I called and asked for the manager and the AFOM said she would upgrade to renovated room and waive the $40 upcharge as if it was a favor. We had not slept the night before and gladly accepted the offer.
The location was fantastic. The pool area and terrace. The architecture and history of the building. Staff was wonderful. Crowded, expensive, no wifi, average room.
Well kept facility and competent staff. Great location. Would come again. But . . . you run a luxury hotel. And then you do a Motel 6 maneuver and charge people for WiFi in their room. I would expect this from an American airline company (the worst customer service businesses on the planet), but not from a top-end hotel chain.
The location in Old Town can't be beat. The staff was very helpful in suggesting & reserving dinner. Handled room issue with free upgrade when I didn't accept lesser room. First impressions: a disaster! Tried to give us a double bed for our king reservation. Two of the three elevators were down. Took an hour for bags to make up to room. No towels in room when we arrived. The white wine had been used & filled with water!
every thing was ok they didn't explain very well about parking, and had some problem, and din't have plasma tv,
The hotel is strategically located near the beautiful old Quebec section of the city and to shopping areas and restaurants..
We had a very bad experience at the hotel, but will detail what happened in the complaints email I will send separately. One thing that was missing: nowhere could we find any documentation or pamphlets or anyhing, either in the room or at the front desk, of things to do and see in the city. We were given one map, sponsored by a shop in Vieux Quebec. I was there with my husband and two kids, and we did not have any idea what to do and see.
Outdoor heated pool and sauna were wonderful ways to warm up! We loved the view from our "river view" room.
Location, just in the middle of city.... Pay Parking even though have booked room
i liked the service your staff provided especally the door men i had a auto problem and they were very helpfull and very kind
Location Views We had breakfast at the restaurant and I had the lobster Benedict. The potatoes were stale and my eggs were full of egg shell. I let the waitress know and their solution was to discount 15%. The meal was over $20 and should have been removed. There was a snow storm the day of checkisses out so I informed the FD that we may need to stay. When I went to check out around 2 pm, flight was departing, she said there would be no additional charge. Then she said because they made a new reservation that they would charge me $50 plus tax. I think this is ridiculous. The hotel is well located with great views but is not modern or luxury but sterile. The food is over priced for the lack of quality of the food.
Location central to sites in old town
For an extra $20, they had no problem in moving me to a room with a desk and terrific views. I had a ton of work to do and the room was quiet and comfortable and allowed me to get it done ahead of an important meeting. The bed was super comfortable. Just wish I'd had more time to sleep!
Excellent professional staff very pleasant and friendly. Clean room. Excellent location around great restaurants coffee shops shopping and petite Champlain which was magical
The location is fantastic and staff was great. Room was very clean. Did not include breakfast or parking ($25 per night). Only some outlets worked.
location very cramped room
A very beautiful quaint hotel , it's clean and the staff are wonderful and it is in a great location walk out and you are in old Quebec perfect located
Very nice room with courteous staff. Pleasantly surprised by the place. The bar dud not open until late and the restaurant didn't serve dinner but with all of the bars and restaurants in Old Town, this didn't seem to pose a problem.
The location was great , and the staff were very helpful.
The best part about the Hotel Clarendon is the location and it has impressive history. Rooms are fairly clean. Rooms are very cramped, beds not that comfortable and there is no private parking. The reception/concierge could use some brushing up on customer service as well.
The hotel is close to downtown and easy to access restaurants and shops. The staff is friendly and helpful. . .
Loved the location! Staff was helpful and friendly. Rooms were very small. Parking. Taxes! Most of all, my grandson forgot his stuffed animal, Curious George, in room 622, there was no response to communication and he was not able to get it back! This is devastating for a 3 year old! I still hope that that can happen!
right in the heart of everything staff was excellent
The staff is most helpful. The main dining room is good and good value for money. The staircase from the main entrance is long and would be difficult for those who have mobility problems or those with heavy luggage which they wish to carry.
The hotel was warm and inviting and the staff was friendly, attentive and accomodating. It was located on a charming side street in Quebec City and was close to shopping, tourist sites, and restaurants. It snowed while we were there in November and the sophisticated Christmas decorations made it a magical place to be for the holiday season. My family thought, though while very clean, that the rooms looked dated. I thought they seemed charmingly European.
Very Helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Beautiful interiors, very clean hotel, complimentary Internet and lovely herbal toiletries. Huge flight of stairs from Cote de Palais, Taxis cannot access the St Jean (level floor) entrance because street is closed. Main Lobby desperately needs a lift to reception. Lifts within hotel very slow/unreliable and corridors long. Bistro Saint James was disappointing- waited 40 minutes for very mediocre breakfast. Use Paillard across the street instead.
Main area where all the activities occur. Parked the car and did not need to touch it for the duration of my stay.
Right where we wanted to be
The hotel is in an excellent location, within the old town, close to all the sites. Rather expensive; old fashioned.
The location is outstanding, right in the heart of the old city, close to everything. Breakfast wasn't included, but it wasn't a huge deal - there are tons of cafes and bakeries in the neighborhood.
easy access to amenities, spa... food was excellent
The Horel staff are very proffessional, they all have a big smile in their face. As soon as you get in the Hotel, they are taking care of you till you leave. L'emplacement de l'Hotel est excellent, en plein centre ville du vieux Québec, en plus c'était le 400ième aniversaire, on a adoré. The bed was kind of narrow, they should have Queen bed in all single rooms. Also, I was on the 6th and last floor and there isn't any safety bars outside the windows, children can easely open the window and fall 30 feet down.
Proximity to all the attractions of Old Quebec make this an excellent and tasteful choice for the discerning traveller. Staff are warm and well presented. The hotel is very clean, and rooms comfortable. Meticulous! Well done, Manoir Victoria! Paying $23 per day for parking, though I understand it, remains disappointing.
The convenience to everything. The hotel was very clean/ I think it is over priced a bit. The taxes are high
The room was calm and we never heard nothing about the other guess on the same floor . our stay was wonderful and the staff was very nice.
Location, room and facilities were great. A solid 25 minute walk from the old town but on a busy little street in a hip neighborhood. On site parking but $$ was not included. no hot tub! Pool felt a little chilly for the 0 degree temps outdoors. Parking $$ not included.
The interior design is very cool! Liked it very much in the room and the bathroom. The bath tub is deep and comfy too! There is no coffee maker in the room although there is one down in the lobby.
Liked the area of the city where it was located. Great view of the church and the city. Hallways were very dark and hot! Bathroom gray colour is too dark.Room cleaning was mediocre, they did not provide additional toilet paper!
The room's are ultra modern and very clean. The pool and gym are outstanding. And I can't say enough about the free espresso machine on the first floor, I made double espresso lattes twice daily! I wished there was a continental breakfast of some sort, and that room service would serve after 11pm.
The clean and modern rooms. No
It was a nice hotel, clean and adequate. For the price, I might have appreciated a bit bigger or a room or a few more 'extras.' The hotel was quite far from the winter carnival grounds so we had to take taxis. The desk staff gave us some pretty questionable advice on what to do our first night in town...my idea of fun isn't taking a 30$ taxi ride to the suburbs to watch a parade for children, that no one else even attended. (for the record I am 28 and was visiting town with my 55 year old parents). They also neglected to open the extra cot for which we paid 30$, I hurt my hand in the process and we nearly couldn't get in the door because it was in the way.
Enjoyed the location, the restaurant, pool and sauna, and friendly staff. Room was small but very clean and comfortable. Didn't like that the pool and sauna were only open after 4pm most days
kayak didn'T reserve right.. we asked for two beds since we where 3 people. We got one king size so the other personne had to sleep on a tiny bed. Hotel couldn't do anything and we could clearly see it was a mistake of communication between the booking "site" and hotel.
Clean and was easy for me to get a room with a double bed. 2 major issues. The rooms don't have enough power outlets. Unless you're willing to remove the wood panel behind your bed to find the hidden extension cord. And they charged me $100 for a deposit and it's been two weeks and they still have not refunded me. Really odd for a hotel to do this but I left a message with the person who deals with this and no call back either.
Basically Downtown Quebec City (a short bus ride to Chateau Frontenac). Close to the Via-rail Station and Public Transit. Plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby. The view was nice too. great rooms but no closets or drawers for clothing. Also, it didn't seem as though the restaurant was ever open except for breakfast.
Location was great. A lot of attractions within walking distance.
El hotel está muy bien situado, en el centro mismo. En un calle tranquila y sin tráfico. La habitación es agradable.
It was a really beautiful place to stay and the hotel staff were extremely helpful. To top off our stay it was snowing in Quebec which made it an even more beautiful.
location is excellent and staff is very helpful the room was a bit too small but what was really small was the bathroom sink, I could barely shave above it, so, although good in general, the room was clearly overpriced.
the room and breakfast selections A guest does not knnow you cannot get your car to the hotel door by the write-up A waitress spilled beer we had ordered on the sidewalk cafe and she never replaced the spilled beer or reduced the cost
All staff were wonderful and kind to deal with Did not like that we were charged for maid service automatically without knowing it. Also, we paid extra for breakfast, but was not told that its continental during the week. On weekends there is much more to choose from.
The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The room was clean and the style was very unique. The location is great as it is within walking distance of the major attractions
excellent location - central to Old Quebec City Hotel has no parking- but they direct you to underground pubic parking which is very close to the Hotel
The room was huge and very confortable.the breakfast was very good
Its proximity to the old city - location There were no directions on where to park a car
everything was perfect, the staff was lovely and very helpful, the room was big and very comfortable, the location was great nothing, everything was perfect
Staff was very friendly, bilingual and helpful. We had a larger than typical room as it was handicapped accessible. The kids enjoyed the pull out sofa bed in the separate sitting area (separated by glass doors from the bedroom area) and the jetted tub. The location is very convenient to the Old City and The Citadel. Both areas are just a short 10-15 minute walk. There is also a bus station behind the hotel if you are in need of public transportation. There was a mini-fridge available for use which was spacious enough to hold the iPads and other gaming devices the kids use. There are plenty of mirrors in the bathroom as well as a magnifying mirror. The parking garage has very narrow travel lanes with many tight turns. We had a minivan and ended up scraping into a wall due to the tight turn to enter the garage. The parking spots themselves are also very tight with a minivan. If you have anything larger than a small sedan, you may find the underground parking area a challenge to navigate. The maximum height is just slightly over 6 feet so that could also prove challenging to larger vehicles. The lighting in the bathroom is a bit dim. We appreciated that there was a safe available in the room but found it's placement high in the closet inconvenient for an average height woman (I had to stand on a chair). I can't imagine how a wheelchair bound person would ever be able to reach that high without assistance. Our room was on the same level as the pool and had a window facing the walkway. Unfortunately, we needed to keep the curtains closed for privacy as it was a busy area so this made our room dark for most of our stay.
We enjoyed five nights in a family suite at Hotel Palace Royal. We had our adult nephew with us, and this struck the right balance of family togetherness and privacy -- even having two TVs was a plus. The hotel's location was convenient to everything, yet our room was quiet and the beds were very comfortable. The room layouts are well thought-out, including the spacious two-part bathroom. The decor and furnishings are elegant. Everything met and exceeded our expectations. In a city of great restaurants, we actually had one of our best meals of the trip at Le Beffroi, the steakhouse in the hotel! The rain kept us in that night, but we did not regret it. It was a special occasion meal, and we rate the selections, service, atmosphere, and quality all very high -- in fact, along with being a very good experience, it was a very good value! Room service for breakfast (a time-saver) was also good quality, and surprisingly no more expensive than a comparable breakfast in a restaurant in town. The pool is ideal for small children or adults who just want to get in and out, but it isn't suited for swimming laps. Rooms with balconies overlooking the pool might have some chlorine smell and noise.
The rooms were nice. The pool area was also nice. Location was perfect. The floors in the room could use some repair. Otherwise it was nice.
The breakfast is at a restaurant downstairs - very good! Loved the shower, best shower heads (Directly above and on the Side) Parking was extra
The hotel staff were excellent, very helpful and friendly. The location was situated near all the major attractions Old Quebec City had to offer. The included breakfast was great, good selections and quality. The staff were happy to help direct us to the attractions and city transportation. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay there again next year.
walking distance to the cruise terminal. Farmers market right across the street. Walking distance to restaurants.
The hotel is well located and staff is very nice.
We were away for 2 weeks and this was by far the most comfortable hotel we stayed at. The design/decorating was eclectic and very pleasing. We stayed in a new wing and our companions stayed in an updated wing of the old building. Both rooms were spacious and very nicely decorated. The large bed was very comfortable. We had a wonderful view of the old city of Quebec. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The staff was very helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Quebec. There was nothing that could be construed as negative in our stay at Hotel Champlain.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was conveniently located. The continental breakfast was a perfect start to the day. Our room overlooked a school yard and it was fun to wake up to the sound of children laughing and playing (of course, it might be because we are grandparents so maybe everyone wouldn't enjoy the sound) Our room was on the small side.
located in the central area noise, parking not available
Location, location, location Not luxurious, but clean and comfortable. Great coffee machine in the lobby. Good value While breakfast buffet was good, it is presented in a very crowded space making it difficult to serve yourself.
Very good location. Well-equiped lobby (computer, newspapers, cafee machine). Parking on site. Good breakfast.
The attention of the crew Nothing
The convenience of being so close to everything!
Wonderful showers. Great, helpful staff. Location. In state of remodeling.
Conveniently located, excellent service, excellent spacious room, free Internet access.
friendly staff good breakfast clean rooms and great location
Location, location, location. Right next to the Chateau Frontenac in the heart of Old Quebec. Price was very reasonable and bed comfortable. Very friendly and helpful staff. Stairs to check in and reach our room. Our room was out of the way so noise was not an issue. Stairs getting to the lobby needed attention when we arrived and it was the same when we left. Busy season and probably didn't get a chance to get to it.
The location. It was right in the heart of the action and beautiful views of the Chateau Frontenac and St Lawrence river. The room was loud, I was in room 15 and their was some sort of construction early in the morning, starting around 6am. Walls were thin and because it was an old hotel, everytime someone ran up the stairs, it felt like they were opening door.
The location was amazing, we were right in front of Shateau Frontnac, the room was nice, and the staff was very helpful!
Friendly staff, excellent location. Best breakfast in town
Great location, excellent adjacent restaurant, helpful staff. Only drawbacks, two flight walk-up. Our room bright and cheerful, recently remodeled bath, however bed was quite soft and sagging and in need of replacement. Overall a great place to stay. We didn't mind the stair climb, if you're going to tour Quebec City, you will be climbing a lot of stairs. Only issues as previously stated was the bed.
Location was fantastic. There is no parking but there is a parking garage nearby at city hall. The room was very small but it was enough for one person. The room needed a vacuum but it wasn't anything terrible. The walls are real thin and you're able to hear anything that is happening outside.
Location is great, right in the old city across from the Esplanade park (even numbered rooms look out to the park), easy walking to all of the main attractions.. Staff bends over backward to be helpful. Breakfast included, basic but all the necessities. Electric fireplace in room. Convenient key-less access. Parking in back of hotel (albeit limited to just 4 cars, first come, first served). This applies to our room, but maybe not entire hotel: Tiny bathroom with sliding door that provided little privacy. No closet, just a rack to hang clothes next to bed. Didn't matter to me, but limited tv channel selection might bother some.
Just a few blocks with the old city. It was great to be able to come back to the pool with our 18 month old after hours of hiking the city. Hotel was very clean, staff was friendly, price was great. The only thing that was strange was the elevator set up, but by no means a deal breaker.
Close to the convention center. Everything fine/
Very helpful to us despite our not speaking French.
the breakfast opens at 8am on weekdays, we left at 7am. It should open at 6am like weekends.
Great location, comfortable bed and spacious room lack of drawer space
The rooms were on the smaller side however were very comfortable and clean. I surprise was a heated outdoor pool which was excellent. The staff were professional and covered all basics for need to know. Nothing major at all. It was just the design of the building and having the so called lobby which is topically found on the ground floor to be on the 3 and next to the doors of the office tower within the same building. Nothing major in the least. Will return again.
Excellent service. Staff went out of their way to help us and ensure a great stay. Hotel is business focused, but service is always first .
convenience to convention centre mildew under caulking in bathroom: Between counter and mirror
The beds were very comfortable
It is near old Quebec City which you can walk to easily, and was close to my destination for a trade show. I made a reservation for two rooms, saying that we wanted to be on the same floor and paid for both rooms before the other party arrived. Result I was on dthe 3rd floor they on the 9th. At check-in I was told the 3rd floor had a better view than the 9th, this after they saw my rate?
Convenience to the old city and lower city
Staff was friendly and the location was good The hotel did not have our original rooms ready. It was an older hotel so what they refer to as "signature" rooms and perks, were infact what other hotels consider standard amenities for guests.
