Easy access to a1 and m18 Spacious rooms Good supply of hot watre and well-appointed bathroom Parking too distant from reception - sign saying 'let your luggage off at main door, then park would have been helpful room very much too far from reception signs to get back to reception very few and far between - got lost newspaper did not arrive by sunday morning 9.15, but it was taken off our bill breakfast room could have been cleaner
Friendliness and helpfullness of the staff
it reminded me of travel inns
The price Restaurant closed at 9 pm
The gym was one of the best I have ever been to The rooms were very warm, it would have been better if they had air conditioning
Modern, spacious rooms, with good facilities. Restaurant menu is very bland, and I feel this let down the Hotel. Not a menu I could choose from - so eating in the Hotel was not possible - at least for me.
The hotel staff were freindly and helpful. Environment was clean and well kept. My room was very cold and did not warm up. I had to eventually ask to be transferred to another room.
Great value, nice new hotel,in walking distance to a nice pub, good food at a great price,
A well kept hotel, very clean and in agood position for visiting that area.
The room was clean, comfortable and the TV had a range of channels. The hotel postcode was was not accurate for sat nav use as it sent me off the main road into an industrial estate rather than carrying on the road and over some more roundabouts. A lot of building work around the hotel so it looks like an unfinished, barren area. no bath.
took 90 minutes to check in because they could not find me on their system, then they would not check me in and process the visa given because they thought I was doing fraud, even though I had the printed receipt with me, I was booked through my job which I do each week, I arrived early evening when my boss was at an dinner party and they dragged her out from her party as I did not have the company visa with me and she had to drive to her office to open up an e-mail from them to fill forms in then take the company visa out the safe to fax that too them, she missed the starter and the main course, then they put me in a disabled room, it was the most horrific service everything!
Thew room was great. Needed more pillows and the bed sheets were ripped.
Reception dealt with our complaint about the room smelling badly of cigarette smoke quickly and efficiently and moved us to another room without any problem. The first room that we were put in stank of cigarette smoke. In fact the whole landing smelt of it. The windows had been left open obviously as they had tried to get rid of the smell.
swimming pool. Lovely rooms.
Vwry handy for the m1
the party we went to nothing, disgusted
For a big hotel chain the chef did a great fixed price menu --the pan fried duck was one of the best and the fennel salad !!! brill ,good price wine list the first room offer was no good--it was an upper room with a leaky skylight and the telly was dead with no service men on call at weekend.Natalie at front desk did a great job of room change and the room was good. 10/10 to Natalie as there was a wedding at the same night
Noise from motorway traffic. I orderd a wake up call which I did not receive
I liked the staff, they were very knowlegable about the area and gave good directions and were helpful. The room was comfortable and had plenty of tea/coffee!! The wardrobe was huge, even had an iron and ironing board. The restaurant was very good value for money. Plenty of room in the lounge bar. I didn't like the constant road noise at the front of the hotel, it didn't stop all night, also a group of residents stood around in the carpark at 2am discussing travel arrangements, the windows at the front could be double glazed to stop this or book a room at the back. The hot water ran out at 6pm too.
convience to motorway
The bed was comfortable Overall the hotel needed to be refurbished it was looking tired and well used especially in the restaurant.
The temperature inside the swimming pool area was too hot and unbearable to sit in for more than 10 minutes. The price of the breakfast £12.95 was far too expensive and we did not have it.
the hotel the centre of the city evry thing is good
Good location, room and food! Wish there was a jacuzzi there!!
central location It was extremely noisey!
Being In the town centre
Work has started on building a 32 storey tower block next to the hotel. Rooms overlooking the building site are extremely noisy.
The location, staff and size of room The rooms were too hot
Good staff, nice hotel, fine location -
We booked a suite but only got a room because they had over booked so was very disappointed about that
Lovely spacious room, warm, Flat screen TV staff lovely and friendly
The aircon worked (it often doesnt); the bed was comfy and the room clean and big.
Smart, clean, good value, well placed
Pleasant, spacious comfortable room. Convenient for ciry centre and only a £7 taxi ride from the Sheffield arena. Nice bar area. Good breakfast.
Nice and clean, comfortable room with friendly staff. The bar prices. Wow! Must be part-owned by Ryanair.
All round, excellent
the privacy from the staff and the location was great th waiting around at reception beiong a bit slow
Please write at least 15 words
Convenient city centre hotel primarily a business hotel but no worse for that.
Good location ad view from window.
The rooms are lovely, staff friendly and helpful, and it was just a really great place to stay. I couldn't sleep because people were so noisy in the corridors! The guys I was travelling with also had this problem. I think it'd be helpful if we could have called reception to get something done about this, as I felt bad for asking the people to keep it down - but it was going on from 2 to 4 in the morning! This noise happened on all 3 nights that I stayed.
Staff were quick to respond to a problem with one room and with the problem of noisy guests Conference guests behaviour and noise
With one exception the hotel met our expectation (see below). The gardens were exceptional. The dining room initially offered only a 3 course meal menu which was said to be the Sunday evening policy. However, on complaining, a la carte was offered, which was satisfactory
The large bed Evening reception staff was rude and unhelpful
Lovely grounds very obliging staff Food in restaurant expensive and poor quality
the efficiency of the staff dealing with queries we had.
Spacious room and good breakfast. Ideal for overnight stop over for the city. Small bed for a double room, flaking paint on the ceiling and no air con.
My stay was limited in time arriving late on Wednesday evening and leaving early on the Thursday. The hotel however has good leisure offering which is something I always look for in a hotel, my only regret is that time did not allow me to use the facilities.
staff very helpful.
we stopped two nights and there was no heating in the bedrooms so the staff had to go out and buy some heaters
nice place and sirroundings staff friendly cigarette smoke coming from the room connected to ours
Size and comfort of rooms and the simple but quality food served in the restaurant.
The view overlooking the peace gardens were stunning, location is perfect. Too open plan, no definative line between the 2 restaurants, the bar staff were not very accommodating and it took 15 minutes to get a drink.
Comfortable, friendly staff Little things - such as not enough milk provided with tea/coffee making facilities - for 2 people - in the bedrooms; insufficient toiletries provided - although we had our own
location staff was a bit scornful
The design and materials used on the ground floor and its juxtapostion to the winter gardens are spectacular and an absolute treat to sit in the champagne bar, particularly at night time with the dramatic lighting effects. The view from my room on to the Peace Gardens was stunning. Reason for choice was availability in the price range I was willing to pay. Having stayed at this hotel I am likely to make it my first choice for future stays in Sheffield. Not enough time to enjoy the spa facilities. The room rate we had obtained was excellent but the breakfast rate was not displayed anywhere we could easily find, we had to enquire at reception. Breakfast was overpriced compared to comparable alternatives available in the city centre.
The beds were extremely hard.
Room next to the lift (203 I think), meant that I had a slepless night which noise throughout the night. Room service was incorrect, asked for Clun sandwich to exclude avocado paste but arrived with. Asked for the 'soft package' for the mini bar (3 cokes, pringles & kitkat), only the beverages arrived and they were charged as full on my bill at a higher price than the package offer excluding the two items. Overall attention to detail was poor.
Staff everywhere could not do enough for me, they looked as though they enjoyed working there. The professionalism and customer service was of a very high standard and the room was very comfortable and spotless. The location was ideal, just a short walk from the Train station and right in the heart of the city centre. No complaints
We came in the morning in a hurry to check bags and get out to the football game. Train had been a mishap in the morning, amongst other things on our time in Yorkshire (don't judge this hotel on the area, it's a really nice place.) The check-in process was great, they took our bags no problem and gave us keys for after 2 p.m. Then they called a cab for us. After two or three calls, and about 30 minutes, a cab still hadn't shown up. I was upset, but Sandeep, one of the employees of the Mercure, went out of his way to advocate for me. He personally walked me to the nearest taxi stand. When none showed up there, he called again and insisted they get someone out there in the next five minutes in no uncertain terms, taking down the registration number of the car that was supposed to show. This time the cab did arrive. If it were for his willingness to go above and beyond and make my problem, his problem, I wouldn't have made it to the game on time. It was fantastic customer service and it turned my mood around. The point is... this is one story of how professionally run this place is, in an area where not everything is very professional. Well worth your stay.
The calm welcoming atmosphere.
It was quiet - could not hear doors banging, people talking in corridors, people banging around upstairs - it is the first time I have experienced such soundproofing and it was most welcome.
Friendly staff, brilliantly decorated, nice food. None
The place was very clean and the rooms were large. A great place to stay and affordable.
Good location and extremely comfortable room. There was no minibar - nice to be able to have a bottle of water in the room without having to go through room service and particularly as its a 4 star hotel.
The size of the room was really good and the heated mirror in the bathroom was genius! I didnt find the bed too comfortable, my neck hurt the next day.
Check in was quick and fast.
room layout, cleanliness, smart appearance of hotel and overall pleasantness of staff Lack of availability of any food, including snacks after 11pm. We did no want room service. Lack of available seating in the lounge areas
I loved our room, it was really plush with a kingsize bed, very comfortable. The only thing i didnt like was in the bathroom, they had a shower curtain which smelt stale, my sister also stayed in another room and had the same problem. They should look at changing the curtains.
The comfort and size of the room. Also the quality of the fittings in the large bathroom.
Lovely room excellent breakfast, plenty of fresh fruit and the cooked breakfast was well cooked. Thermostat in room faulty(kept clicking all night) reported this in the morning though & reception staff said it would be attended to.
Friendliness of everyone we encountered Booking site had suggested it was very close to the arena - it wasn't
went to watch a show at city hall, which was just around corner from hotel
Obviously being a new hotel the standard was high. Unfortunately the tv channels were not working but it was possible to watch a film if you wished. Room slightly small but bed very comfortable, excellent shower.
the quality of the hotal, he ambience and the proximity to the city centre
The hotel and room facilities were everything you expect from a 4* luxury hotel. Very very good standard all round. We moved into 3 different rooms!!! Which on a 1 night stay was stressfull. The 1st room the tv did not work. Due to our short stay I asked if moving rooms would be quicker than getting the computerised tv fixed. So we were moved. The 2nd room was smaller but the tv did work. The room was small. The wradrobe did not open fully because of the bed. There cabinet that housed the tea/coffee kettle did not have a sockett or lghts inside, as the cabinet in the 1st room had. My husband complained as we were leaving for our night out. The night manager(?) amy, was very good she up garaded to a mazzanee room with complimentary breakfast. We had explained that having looked forward to this break for so long. With all the problems with the room and upset me and put a dampner on the whole weekend. But amy was great she had all our belongings moved for us, to the upgraded room, and arranged breakfast in bed! So thank you to amy. Her customer services was second to none!! I do hope this gets passed on.
central location for shops theatres nightlife spot on
Location Much too noisy (outside noise) despite being on the fifth floor and no provision for parking nearby
Room - very clean and good amenities Nothing
central location & plenty of bars / restaurants in the courtyard adjoining location difficult to find , sat nav telling us to go down bus lane.
Radio by bedside with facility for ipod. Bed really comfortable.
Clean comfortable hotel in excellent location, particularly liked small square with choice of eateries and close proximity of city hall. Nothing comes to mind
Very charming, lots of character. The owner was very welcoming and gracious. Good breakfast. Our room (#3) was very large and had a jumbo tub. The bed was a bit hard.
Extremely friendly. Room very clean. No bath towels
Friendly, personal service from a family run business
The friendly atmosphere and attention to detail were very impressive. We had privacy yet were always able to have our needs met. Thank you. Everything was excellent
The owners were very friendly, welcomed us with a smile, and gave us a very personal service which was lovely. The hotel itself is a beautiful old stone building and full of character, a very enjoyable stay all round! Perhaps a little dated on decor/bathrooms but still a lovely feel
Very friendly and unobtrusive service in a comfortable environment Not a thing
The owners were very friendly and accommodating and attended to all our needs, The room was very comfortable with a lovely corner bath, perfect! Enjoyed the evening meal and breakfast was delicious, would definitely stay again. n/a
Comfortable, homely atmosphere
Was a great night all the staff were great help with everything we needed thank you
Bedrooms were spacious - bathroom large, very clean with plenty of towels. Bed very comfortable. Breakfast service was rather haphazard although food was well cooked and tasty. Staff were not attentive enough to refilling coffee/tea cups.
Ease of booking through yourselves None apparent
Good service and friedly staff Nothing to report
Friendly staff. Easy access. Comfortable beds. Very cramped. One towel for two in double room! Could not turn washbasin tap off. Shower: a trickle. Ordered newspaper first forgotten, then delivered much later. Breakfast: service a joke (excuse: training new staff!)
Large well appointed room. Small but efficient restaurant and bar
Location Value for money Poor ventation in room
Nice people and very helpful, room was first class Problems with catering very slow and not much choice
Hospitable and friendly
Only one set of towels between two people. No seal between shower and bath so water poured onto floor! Toilet seat would not stay in upright position.
Good value for a lovely room and great breakfast. Lovely village location (our second time there, loved it the first time and went back with other family members as had a family event happening relatively nearby) no proper coffee
The location is very nice and it is popular with locals. It has no airs and graces but is very welcoming
there were good facilities in the room and the breakfast was excellent also the manager was very receptive to our complaints. the cleanliness of the room carpet was terrible and the whole accomodation had a fusty /damp aroma.Improvements in heating in the bathroom may solve this problem.
service and location
great room, excellent breakfast. heater in bathroom didnt work, neither did ligh tover sink.
Clean comfortable bed. Bathroom was not pleasant. Floor looked dirty and the windows were black with mildew as were some of the tiles.
Good welcome. Staff very good. Bargain prices in hotel and for food. Very spacious room with jacuzzi bath and even iron and ironing board in room.Convenient for Meadowhall shopping centre and M1. Traffic noise intrusive. CH Radiator faulty.
Local hospitality Room smelled a little stuffy
setting in the village rooms smelt a little musty
Friendly staff, cleanliness and location. None
Staff were very helpful and friendly, facilities were excellent. No complaints. Good value for money with continental breakfast included. No bad points very pleasant stay.
The Staff were very attentive in all matters, My husband was ill during our stay and all the staf were very concerned and did their utmost to help.the food was excellent. This is our 5th year of visiting this hotel (twice yearly) for the Jehovahs Witness Conmvention at The East of the Pennines Assembly Hall at Hellaby. It is very convenient and we are always made very welcome. debbie etheridge
Friendly attitude of the staff, cleanliness and excellent value of money no
Good value for money we just used it as a base for visiting relatives. I've stayed there a few times over the last 10 years and the rooms are looking a bit tired - could do with a lick of paint and new carpets.
Rooms were not too hot and we enjoyed the breakfast Fire alarm going off at 2.30am because someone was smoking in their room. Water pressure very poor in the shower and even worse in the sink where it was barely a dribble.
Staff friendly, helpful and efficient. Although room was adequate for our needs ie. Comfy bed, spare bed for our son, tv, internet access, etc. we had to request bedding for the spare bed and extra pillows, towels, etc. - but staff was apologetic and supplied promptly. So not really that bad.
Pleasent guy on reception. Tired hotel - grubby. Noisy room despite having requested a quiet one. Don't like seeing hairs left in the bathroom /shower - should be cleaned better and shows they don't care. Holiday Inn Express much better.
Good helpful staff; reasonable simple evening food and ample breakfast.Clean. Initally put in smoking room but the nonssmoking room request was not received by the hotel from the booking site.
Location, price + friendly helpful staff. Noisy people walking in the corridor past our door intermittently all through the night.
It was a stay of one night. Thefact that there was no view from the window did not matter on this occasion. There was no soap in the showere container.
so friendly swimming pool area was very clean
Value for moneey clean
I found Hotel exceptional value, a very competative price and high level of service. I reflect this against Hotels I have stayed at in London that are more expensive and not such good service Nothing
location and facilities; good gym
Breakfast was good! My room smelt of stale smoke, even though I dont and even after 3 nights it still smelt. maybe a leak in the ventilation...
I really enjoyed the swimming pool and spa, it was greaty to relax at the end of a very busy working day at a reasonable price. nothing
When we arrived check in was quick and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The room was exceptional very comfortable and great value for money. We enjoyed our stay so much that have booked again for feb. We are saving to afford an upgrade to try the four poster room. Nothing
Friendly, professional staff. Superb food. Comfortable clean room. Mattress wee bit too soft and bed not king size. Shower curtain and rail needed replacing in bathroom
Relaxing spa. Sea bass not properly cooked: uncooked chewy area.
Friendliness of the staff and pleasantness of the large public rooms As the hotel was very busy, in the evening we had to eat in a small side room which was rather lacking in atmosphere.
