This victorian hotel is very charming and all the staff is very accommodating and knowledgeable. Because it is not a big chain hotel, the rooms are not all the same cookie cutter layout. I was traveling with my mother and both of us have some mobility issues. The room that we were originally booked in was one that had a smaller bathroom. Mary took notice of our needs and took the initiative to change our room upon our check in to one that had a little larger bathroom with grab bar. We really appreciated her attentiveness and our stay was much more comfortable with that added feature. The king size bed was super comfortable, the continental breakfast was good and the price was very reasonable. This was not my first stay at the Andrews Hotel and I look forward to returning.
We didn't ask for anything special, but everything went very smoothly. Easy check-in, room was ready early. Vintage era bathroom was very clean and the towels fluffy. Free safe and iron/board in room. Continental breakfast was very basic but conveniently laid out in the hall on each floor with trays you could load and take back to your room. An easy pre-breakfast, altho no surprise the coffee was pointless. Had a good meal with great service in the attached restaurant FIno.
Small room but was expected, and not our goal to spend much time in the room anyway. The tiny bathroom sink and glass shelf above it make it difficult and even a bit unsafe to wash your face. Like so many hotels everywhere, the shower temp can be adjusted but not the flow rate, always set to full-on gush, which is luxurious but a tremendous waste of water. Neighborhood a bit grungy/sketchy, but you knew that already, right? It's SF. Very convenient to all transit.
Good location within Union Square. Staff was friendly and provided complimentary breakfast near room. Also, overnight parking is right behind hotel and is affordably priced at $30.
Only one service elevator that is really old. Stairs are steep and would be difficult to carry luggage going up the stairs.
Price and closeness to activities
The staff - courteous, knowledgable, friendly, helpful!
The covers on the beds
Convenient location near shopping and theaters; wonderful continental breakfast bar right outside room
Although the hotel is old, compact and a bit shabby the staff do a very good job of cleaning etc and the front desk was helpful and friendly. And of course there was the restaurant - fantastic food and excellent service.
Room stuffy needed to keep window open all the time even in November

Excellent location - easy to access via bart from sfo. Very close to many transportation options making it a great home base for exploring the city. Fresh flowers in the lobby and room were a nice touch. Quaint old elevator on site - if we'd tackled one more hill we may have had to use it. We had 3 windows which opened which kept the room temperature comfortable during the heat wave.
The bathroom was very compact and would be hard for anyone of a larger stature to negogiate comfortably - perhaps other rooms had better options? A light in the closet would be a great addition! And new hallway carpetting would really freshen up the common areas.
Very friendly staff. Nice clean room.
extremely loud ventilation-system in room 209 daily from 6pm to 11pm.
The Andrews Hotel is a quaint hotel that is ideally located close to Union Square. The breakfast set up in the hall on each floor was convenient and perfect - good coffee & hot tea, fresh fruit, tasty pastries and scones with jam. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had an junior suite which was a very nice size. No noise on our floor but as everywhere there is some street noise (did not bother us at all - it was nice being a couple fairly level blocks away from the cable car noise). The bed was comfortable. Lots of free DVD's available at the front desk. Attached to the hotel is FINO a wonderful Italian restaurant with great service.
No complaints but just know that as it is an historical hotel the floors and bathrooms are older but very clean. It was a bit warm due to the hot weather but the ceiling fan worked great.
Since our arrival the front desk was more than helpful to us. They not only tell us every single details of the city, but also did their best to feel the comfort in our room. Just like the ambiance of the hotel itself, the staff at the front desk was so hospitable. The location was great; despite being at the city center the rooms were quiet. Highly recommended ;))
Just a suggesttion: as they serve the breakfast at the aisles of the floors a foldable (the room has no space for another object) table and chairs would be more comfortable than trying to eat on the bed.
Very nice turn-of-the-century building, antique lift and staircases, lots of flair. Simple but good and fresh continental breakfeast served on each landing, so you have to eat it in your room.
