Pros: Great car, good conditions. Easy pick up
Cons: Extra costs for everything Very bad attitude at drop off: instructions said clearly were to drop off the car, and there we went to find just a phone. When we called they were very rude telling us to read well the instructions (according to them they said another location for drop off. But now, the paper said the place we first went to). City was shut up for a marathon so we could not go to the second location, and they didn't know anything about it. They were just rude, and insisted that they could not do anything. Luckily we found a nice person finally at the reception.

    Pros: Helpful staff. Friendly
Cons: As with many things in Iceland, prices are high.

    Not the best option
Cons: Took 2.5 hours to get the car. Fine print notes price I had was for 800 kms, if I had not caught that and driven over 800 kms they would have charged tons more. Tried to give me a manual even though I reserved an automatic. Tried to pin scratches on us, thankfully we took tons of photos before leaving the parking lot.

Pay a little extra to avoid significant hassle
Pros: There's really nothing to like about this company.
Cons: That $8-a-day rental is really going to cost you! Sixt operates on a nickel-and-dime model. They charge less than other rental companies up front, but they really stick it to you in all sorts of fees and extras. And although they offer 'free' cancellation for reservations, they keep a steep percentage and make it very difficult to actually cancel. If you ever need any kind of help, the website directs you to the customer service line, which in turn directs you to the website. It's the worst kind of customer non-service feedback loop! I managed to break the cycle only by emailing the emergency help desk. In Iceland. In short, do your homework and rent at your own risk. And keep in mind that in the end, Kayak or other 3rd-party booking sites assume absolutely zero responsibility for a terrible experience with a fly-by-night company like Sixt. They'll be no help should things go south (which they most likely will). I would recommend strongly sticking to a slightly higher-priced but well-known and reputable company. You'll be far happier in the end. Or at least not mentally exhausted and spiritually crushed.
