Pros: The people were kind and tried to be helpful

Cons: I reserved a vehicle that was supposed to seat six. When I arrived they had a van for me that seated five. After explaining a few times that we had six people and that the reservation showed a six person vehicle and that I had confirmed the reservation by phone a week previously they said that the system had made a mistake but they would try to accommodate us. They finally found a van that seated 6 but was pretty high miles and beat up (missing hub cap, dented side panels, cracked windshield, significant scratches. In the end everything worked out okay, but things started out a little rough.

Great customer service! Different idea of an "SUV"

Pros: The man at the rental counter was friendly, patient and generally great. He took his time with us and went above and beyond to help us. He was really wonderful to deal with.

Cons: What we reserved (and the photos that explained what we had reserved) looked very different from what we got. We expected a mid-size SUV and the vehicle was small.

Fantastic car!

Pros: We asked for a 7-passenger van and figured we'd get some average van. What we got was a really nice Peugeot that had a USB port, phone connectivity and seat warmers! (Great perk for the cold Icelandic weather.)

Cons: The car was in an accident before we picked it up and it had a dent on the door. The door would not seal properly allowing a lot of wind to make for an uncomfortable ride

car troubles

Pros: comfortable ford focus. they have a free shuttle service from their main location.

Cons: the car had mechanical problems almost immediately which got worse over the trip and eventually had to be towed and replaced. We had to press to get a day refunded which they did eventually. it was a dangerous situation on a brand new car. Lucky I wasn't hit. they did rectify it fairly promptly.

Recommended for a jaunt into Iceland

Pros: The car was clean inside and out, which is a feat if you are familiar with Icelandic roads. Pickup was a breeze and dropoff was even easier. The staff was nice and helpful. The unlimited wifi extra was awesome and I would suggest it. Makes getting directions and posting sweet photos from the trip easy. Pretty good value for ~9 USD extra. Overall, had a pleasant experience with Dollar and would definitely consider them again the next time I come to Iceland.

Cons: The only hiccup I had was getting in the car and realizing that the car wasn't a straight automatic like I thought but was actually an automanual. Wasn't a bad thing, just threw me off for the first few minutes in the car because it was unexpected.

Dollar=hertz

Pros: I did not know that dollar car rental is hertz at Charles de Gualle. Hertz will nickel and dime you to death and this rental did that.

Cons: Tiny scratch on the car which I'm 90% sure was there before cost us 200 euro. The radio being broken and having to pull over and ask an attendant to help us fix an issue with the tire pressure amount to a very unsatisfactory 15 euro credit. Never hertz

Iceland Rental

Pros: Agents were helpful, car drove well.

Cons: Keflavik airport's shuttle was terrible. It required standing outside in a line of people in freezing temperatures for half an hour.

Pros: Very helpful staff and easy to pick up and drop off (once you realize it's off a shuttle from the airport). They even inspected the car with me before I picked it up and after I dropped it off so there's no surprises.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: I visited Iceland with 5 friends so we reserved a 6 persons car. Turned out Kayak didn't inform Dollar correctley and they only had a 5 persons car for us. After a phone call to Kayak (30+ minutes waiting time and €17 later) the only thing they could tell us is "it's Dollars fault". We lost several hours looking for a different car and eventually found one at Herz for twice the price...

Wrong Car

Cons: They did not have the size of the car I rented. The staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. I can understand the mistake of not having the correct car, but I would assume that they would be more customer service oriented do to the nature of their job. I also watched as other customers came in, were ignored, and the staff acted as if it were a problem to help them. We ended up renting from Geysir who were more helpful and had the size car we were looking for.

did not pick up the car at all

Cons: We could not pick up the car. We arrived at KEF airport and Dollar told us to go to Reykjavik city location to pick up the car. It was Xmas season and not all locations were open.

Pros: The rental experience was excellent - easy pickup/dropoff, the car was exactly what we wanted, and all staff were very friendly. We would highly recommend using this company and booking through Kayak!

Great help to jet-lagged travel stupid traveller

Pros: They were extremely helpful and accommodating after I locked my keyless fob in the car at 5am on the way to the airport with my suitcase in the trunk. They went out of their way to try to find the best and cheapest way to ship it to my next location and then when it turned out I wasn't able to ship it without taking some things out of the suitcase they agreed to hold it for me free of charge since I was flying back through Iceland and asked which of their locations would be the most convenient for me. They always responded quickly and were very fair with their charges.

Good service and good car

Pros: Great service, the car was a CX-5 which did everything we needed it too.

Cons: The GPS we rented and were given didn't work which required a return drive to the airport for replacement. It was expensive but I guess that is the going rate.

Not same car

Cons: Reserved a bus for a big group and they tried to switch it and give us a station wagon. Took over an hour and a half to get the bus because they said it was being cleaned. It was very unorganized and they also made us pay the difference for upsizing even though we originally reserved the bus. Will find a different company in Reykjavik next time.

Most Helpful

Pros: The young staff took good care of us. We had 8 pieces of luggage and they offered to store it for us instead of us having to stuff it in our very small car. They even gave us a ride back to the terminal the morning we left instead of us having to ferry our bags over piece by piece. It didn't matter to us that the counter wasn't at the terminal. They also didn't get pushy the way some companies have done when it came to the additional insurance and options. They were efficient, friendly, and I would rent from them should we have the good fortune to find ourselves in Reykjavik again.
