- Proximity to Narragansett and Scarborough beaches - Proximity to restaurants and retail stores (e.g. CVS drug store, Stop & Shop grocery store) - Outdoor swimming pool - Staff were friendly and helpful - Breakfast was excellent - Price for the two night stay was expensive for a Holiday Inn. However, in summer season with a location near beaches, it is understandable the price is inflated - Despite good air conditioning, the room was very humid. It was humid outside which translated to indoor humidity as well. Paper documents in the room were slightly wet from the humidity
The staff was amazing!!! Joe carried my bags to my room and could not have been more of a pleasure to talk with. I was heading into town for a girls night out and instead of calling me a cab the hotel drove me to my destination! It made my whole night much more relaxing and stress free. Also, the pillows were insanely comfortable. When I checked out I immediately went and bought all new pillows for my bed at home. I was so inspired by my wonderful night's sleep...
Location was great, close to shopping and Downtown. Requested a king size bed, but got a queen sized bed. There were only 2 queen rooms, and we got one b/c of our length of stay?? Sink did not drain the first day, but was fixed. There was no electrical outlet in the bathroom, had to use the hairdryer out in the bedroom, but had to plug it in under the desk, so I was not able to stand and dry my hair. Wallpaper in the bathroom was lifting. The bed was not comfortable. Advertised that there were pillow top mattresses, ours was definitely not a pillow top and it was quite flat. There was no refrigerator in the room, coffee maker was old and outdated. I have been in far cheaper rooms that provided a keurig and nicer coffee provisions. Powdered creamer in a packet was gross. Overall, it was fairly disappointing for the $500.00 per night rate.
We stayed for one night the room was very clean, the bathroom was beautiful, and the hotel staff was very accommodating. The street noise outside of our room woke us fairly early in the morning, the breakfast at hotel restaurant was overpriced and sub par
The Viking Hotel is in a perfect location. You can walk to all of the attractions. The staff was courteous and took care of all of our needs. The bathroom was tiny.
Great location and luxury appeal. Seems that the luxury only goes to the higher end rooms and more public places. The public bathroom in the hotel was 3 times more amazing than the one in our room.
Beautiful suite with a walk-in shower and bear-clawed tub, nice views and a friendly, professional staff. Not replacing the in-room coffee and the $35 a day valet parking are little things that irritate.
Very close/walkable to all. Hidden costs - parking, facilities.... Its an additional $15 a day for each. This is not clear in the post.
This is a lovely hotel in the middle of a historic district with an easy walk to shops and restaurants. Hotel staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs. We had a great time in Newport.
I thought the staff was very friendly. There was an upbeat vibe in lobby. The location was great. Easy to walk everywhere from the hotel. Didn't like that I had to valet park my car. My final bill was $130 more than I agreed to because of extra fees. There was an extra resort fee and the parking was expensive. Mattress was very old and uncomfortable.
All the extra charges. There is an extra $35 nite fee for parking. That should be included for people who stay.
Excellent location near action in Newport. Pleasant old hotel ambiance, though most of hotel is 1960's construction, well disguised behind original hotel facade. Parking fee extreme ($35 per day about 25% of room rate). Tub in room was nasty, no one would consider soaking in it, ok for shower. Wall behind tile in shower clearly water damaged with tile buckling and uneven with stained grout. No doubt hiding serious mold problem behind tile. Not so serious that I thought I needed flip flops for shower, but clearly showing neglect.
I stayed here in November when rates are certainly lower. Hotel was excellent value, great service, good food, very nice facility. The hidden fees for parking and "resort fee" are a bit annoying.
Cheap, clean and 7min drive from center Newport. It was clean but smelled like Clorox
Everything is ok. I don't remind
Hotel was very convenient for my trip value was great and location was easy to get to. Also it was in a location near shopping
The place is run down and looks more like a motel. We had booked two nights, but after seeing the place, we cancelled the next night and booked it in Holiday Inn express in Middletown (which looked lot better and was only $15 more per room). It also mentions unlimited transportation, however even though we had two queen beds in a room (4 people), they only gave free transportation to two people. Definitely not worth the stay.
Lots of room especially the bathroom area Very hot room when we first arrived and it took awhile to cool off. We were instructed to enter through the side door and go to the second floor to our room. There was no elevator. Usually not a big deal but we had a week and a half worth of luggage to lug up the stairs and more than half way down the long hall. When I checked out they had my room rate in their system incorrect, almost $40 higher than what I booked. They corrected it, but good thing I didn't just leave my keys in the room and head out, like I normally do.
Great shower. Comfortable beds, clean. Great steak restaurant attached, get there early as they are busy every night. Towels were older, but clean and plenty of them. No free breakfast.
It was fairly clean The price is not worth what you get over priced and Lady Maniger is rude. They do not honor AAA or New Port Grand Play and Stay offers. If it was not so close to where I was a seeing a show at the NewPort Grand I would of chose a more eligant room downtown for twenty dollars more.
very close to downtown New Port ... that's it very old, humid and you can actually smell the mold .. rusty and not renovated .. too expensive for what it offers
There was absolutely nothing to like about this property Mold located throughout bathroom, hair in bathroom from previous guest, holes in the walls and carpet pulled up in one corner
The room was really nice, love the wood floors. Bathroom very clean. Room was comfortable and we'll appointed. I like that the sink area as separate from the toilet and shower. Also, I appreciate that the whole bathroom area was behind a wall separate from the bedroom.
We paid for a shuttle and couldn't even get one the first day we were there. Second day we waited in the lounge for the shuttle and the girls at the front desk forgot to tell us when they came so we missed that one too. Front desk help was awful.
Its location is awesome. Everything is within the walking distance Parking fee was charged upon check-out without explanation at check-in
Although I had paid through kayak before we arrived the hotel charged my credit card for the room. It took days and a number of phone calls to finally get the hotel to remove the charge. It may just be easier to just book through hotel.
Hotel was clean and comfortable. Great location on America's Cup Ave. withing walking distance to almost everything. Pretty views of the marina out back. First floor rooms are great because you can sit outside your room and relax or play with kids.
Great location. Staff was friendly. Room was clean, comfortable and we had a great harbor view. Walking distance to restaurants and shops. Parking was $25 a night which seems high, especially in April.
Front desk staff very helpful. Air conditioner was not working our first night they immediately sent someone up to take a look at it. He thought he had it fixed but that was not the case. We reported this to the front desk and they had the unit replaced the next day. Bar area downstairs is a great place to relax. Can't wait until the new restaurant opens. Beds/ pillows not that comfortable. Rooms could use some updating.
Location was excellent. Enjoyed sitting out back at sunset. Easily walk around Newport from the Hotel. Front Desk Hospitality was great. Furnishings are fine. Nothing special. Clean.
Had to call maintance 3 times. For the price of the room that was three times too many. The do a lot of chasing/ holds on bank account that takes days to fall off. Great location. Beautiful water view if the bird droppings had not been on window. Too expensive to have had all the issues
The matress and cleanliness of entire hotel. Other than the hold you put on my card... Loved everything
Loved the location right on the harbor walking distance to all the shops, cafes, bars...less than 20min. Drive to beavertail lighthouse, beautiful ocean view at the ocean drive historical center, Fort Adams, windmill hill We payed $25 dollars a day to park at the Newport Harbor hotel.....
The front desk staff gave us excellent suggestions for meals and directions how to get somewhere. Everyone in the hotel was friendly. It was a great location and we could walk almost everywhere.
Can walk to anywhere, great location Extra charge for parking
They were friendly. Brought you breakfast in the morning
The location was convenient yet quiet for sleeping at night. The staff was attentive and helpful. The room was in a separate small building rather than the main building next to the parking lot so less curb appeal. Even though they supplied a special made yogurt and fruit pastry in the morning, there is no place to eat it. The room only has a tiny nook. I suggest that the hotel use one of its dining rooms for guests to eat in breakfast or the outdoor dining area.
the location is fantastic and they have parking. also, the complimentary pastries in the morning are to die for. for the price of the room per night and the stars this hotel has, I was surprised by the condition of the room. the rug was ripped and frayed, the bathtub/shower felt unclean, and the staff could have been more polite.
location - near water -- accessible to restaurants/bars. could walk anywhere. near a great coffee spot 'Alix' room was nice, but a little on the pricey side for what it was.
We stayed in one of the inn's newest rooms (they've recently expanded), and our room was beautiful & spacious. The building is brand new to the inn, but everything ran like clockwork. Check in was handled somewhat awkwardly in the entry to the restaurant. Otherwise, it was a great experience!
The room was very clean, tastefully decorated, had great amenities (stove, fridge, microwave), and was perfectly located. Very tasty breakfast yogurt parfait and pastries. Quiet even in downtown area. hard to know where to park at first, but they do give you directions.
They have a fabulous restaurant attached to it but you must make a reservation in advance.
Hotel Employee who checked us in was lovely and gave us great info on what to see in Newport as well as a map. Be prepared that the pub next door doesn't close till 1am. Their patio was full of happy young adults! The air conditioning unit was able to muffle most of the noise but we aware that this noise might affect your stay.
The staff was amazingly friendly and willing to help. The room was huge, clean, and welcoming. Free breakfast was provided every morning, without waking us up. Nope.
The staff were friendly and welcoming and the owners, the location was perfect and the overall experience was more then we expected! Food was excellent! No
The Inn attendant that greeted us upon arrival was very helpful in suggesting places to eat and visit. I also loved the warm pastries and creamy yogurt that we received promptly at 8 am every morning. We loved that the inn was in a very central location. I liked everything about this inn.
Location was fabulous, staff very friendly. The breakfast croissant was the best I have ever had!
Very friendly owner and housekeeper/cook. Breakfasts were delicious and very attractive/appealing. Good variety.Flower gardens were beautiful and if you are a plant lover, this is a must place to stay.Convenient to good restaurants. I can't think of anything.
Large bathroom, friendly inn-keeper, sitting garden.
Kerri was very nice and welcoming. She also served great breakfasts.
Breakfast was amazing. Close to the beach and less than a block from a playground and several restaurants.
The staff was so sweet, and the property was beautiful, I only stayed one night but I didn't want to leave.
The staff was helpful and accodating. Breakfasts were very good. The location was great- close to a beach, restaurants, etc. The room was quite small, and a bit dated, but was ok for the price.
We arrived there at 4:30 PM to check in and no one was there. The door was locked, their mail was in the box and a delivered package had been left on the porch. We called their telephone number. No one answered. We left a message, telling them that we
Fun, friendly environment with excellent wharf-front dining. Staff was a little pushy with the 12-noon checkout. A bellman arrived--uninvited--at 11.30 inquiring if we were ready to leave...he returned every 10 minutes for the next half hour.
The hotel was AMAZING! We reserved the Harbor View suite and the view was PERFECT! We could see the bridge lit up at night and the room was cozy, modern, clean and had an ipad, ipod, huge bathtub, gas fireplace and minibar. The hotel is big into being 'green' but I didn't like that there wes no trash bags in the cans. It felt weird to put trash in without a bag in it, especially since we were putting leftover food from dinner in there. And also no hairdryers in the room.
The entire experience was wonderful, the food the bar the room, but the staff was excellent Leaving
the location, free Wi-Fi, great shower A/C blew directly on the bed - hard to get a comfortable (not too cold) temperature. We had to pay for parking. No options for breakfast, had to go out for breakfast.
Very luxurious Nothing
The size of the fireplaced room overlooking the water. Modern contemporty upgrades. One of the nicest Hotel's I've ever been in by far!
The hotel was beautiful. The staff was very attentive and courteous. The location PERFECT you literally walked down Mary St and you were in the center of Thames couldn't have asked for a more convenient spot. The views from the roof deck were breath taking.
Newport is known for its mansions and opulence. The Vanderbuilt is a modern version of a big and beautiful home. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. You may very well feel like you are an Astor or Berwind. My favorite part is brunch in the Conservatory. The food is great and the room is just so pretty. Not my first stay and won't be my last.
Bedding very comfortable, nice pillows, and a clean room. Broken Toilet, when we called downstairs to let them know, got the impression they already knew there was an issue. They did send someone right away, but wish it was taken care of before getting to our room. That night after returning from dinner 9 p.m. the guest in the next room BANGED AND SHOUTED for us to be quiet - we were laughing - no TV on no music on just enjoying our view and relaxing - did NOT feel comfortable at this persons Anger! We were able to change rooms but at the front desk did get a little push back on - if they could get us a room with a view...I told them we were not loud and that HE was the problem she then stated ours was the second complaint from him - regarding a different guest...and she said how they had plans in the work to fix the soundproofing issues with the whole complex. Following night after dinner we returned and decided to go to the bar for a nightcap we got a high top table but went over to the bartender to place our drink order she seemed put out definitely not pleasant.
Great hotel. Great location.
Loved the location. On the water and walking distance to everything in newport. Good hotel to stay at with teenagers but truly just an average and little worn marriott on inside. Felt very 1980s needs lobby re do. Hotel front desk seemed overwhelmed and a bit immature. Made promises could not and did not keep. Conceriege lounge was average -- staff not very attentive in there. Food and liquor would run out and go unnoticed by staff. Also had an odd smell.
The location in the attraction/shopping part of Newport. Lack of parking.
The Inn was a great value. It is in the heart of downtown, right on the Main Street. You have access to the waterfront, shopping, restraraunts and bars. The city itself is just quaint. They serve high tea and desserts. It was so wonderful to have a snack available. Breakfast is included as well, and the selection was wonderful. I had read some other reviews as they mention the decor is outdated. I think they are going for that historical feel. It is not a modern hotel. For the money, plus all the add ons and location, you will not find a better value.
The location is excellent. Parking is close and rather inexpensive. The staff was very nice as was the room. Our room, 4 flights up wouldn't work for some.
The location is great. Close to downtown activities. Facility is dated, but it has its charm.
Its location near on Thames St is its best feature, The room was certainly not"deluxe". It had a small double bed and for two people this was not so comfortable. Small bathroom with handbasin in the main room. The room was ground level with windows to a lane outside and passers by could look straight in.
The location was very central to the main activities of Newport. It was too expensive, with extra charges for parking and a 3rd bed, which was not comfortable and for whom there was no towels or other amenities. The staff interaction was virtually non-exestent, on either check-in or breakfast.
Great complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea; cozy traditional decor; helpful and responsive staff Thin walls and windows make the rooms noisy; TV is very small
The location of this hotel was fantastic. We could walk to restaurants. The visitors center was close so that you could get both the local bus and the siggtseeing ones. The room was large and comfortable (refrigerator in room). Daily breakfast and afternoon tea were great - many choices. No elevator
The location Very aged and no updates that we could see, small and the staff wasn't very friendly.
Location,Staff,Breakfast No TV in room, Not there for TV however iti is helpfull to keep up on things and help sleep.
Location and staff, the english breakfast was so nice. Again, the location is awesome. Rooms are very roomy, and most important, they are clean. No elevator but even that wasn't THAT bad. The price was high for the Inn. But it served us well and we moved on.
The daily breakfast is a very nice spread and the hotel is right in the middle of an area with tons of restaurants, shops and bars which was awesome. They also have a nice roof deck of you want to get away from the crowds for a bit. For the price, I think this was a very good deal. We're used to staying in hotels instead of inns, so the stairs were a bit of a surprise. Also, it would have been nice if we could have opened the windows as there was such a beautiful breeze, however the ac unit did work very well.
The location is good to reach centre of Newport for Restaurants and bars. Size of the room is very small. A musty smell of the place (in September). The staff was not friendly, just businesslike.
Everyone was very nice. Just attentive enough. The location was amazing; short walk to all of downtown. No two rooms are alike. So gorgeous. Free, convenient parking! Very familiar, comfortable atmosphere.
Clean room, quiet area.
Relaxed atmosphere and friendly and helpful staff.
Charming quiet rooms & great location, 200m from great restaurants/bars. Staff very helpful.
the hotel was near all the facilities . I would have prefered a room in the main house but the room i was allocated was nontheless clean and comfortable.
Wonderful character - ful inn with great staff. Extras included wine and cheese in the early evening - a real treat nothing negative to stay
Friendliness Parking, happy hour wine Very tired looking and extremely noisy room due to some pump
Was a great location, parked the car when we arrived on Saturday, spent 2 nights and were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go in Newport.
The staff were friendly, the room was spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. The continental breakfast was also pretty good. The en-suite was tiny in relation to the size of the room, the shower had nowhere to put the soap or shampoo which was a bit of a nuisance, but one does not spend 24/7 in the shower room......
