We waited for over two hours to get our rental car at St. Thomas airport. 30 mins in line just to sign paperwork and then another 1.5 hours waiting for the keys, after we were told it would be a 45 mins wait. Desk agents were very rude. They continued to tell other customers in line that there was a 45 mins wait knowing that was a lie. We feel like we were being lied to or scammed. The car was great. The price was great. Drop off was smooth. BUT… we waited almost 3 hours after we landed to get our car, the one we reserved months in advance. 3 hours?!? I find that completely unacceptable and unnecessary. I have given feedback to Budget in St. Thomas, Budget corporate and QEEQ, however they fit into this. I’m not sure how you make this right, but QEEQ offered us a $20 coupon. My time is worth $7.33/hour?? Had it been the other way around, they would have rented the car to someone else. I’m sure I’ve rented a hundred cars over the years and this experience was the worst because of that. I don’t see me using Budget or Kayak again. It’s one thing to have a rough time, but the response to make it right has been completely underwhelming.

Budget did not rent the car for the total I had booked it for. It was significantly more than the total I was given, even though the total I was given included “all taxes and fees”.

The pickup experience was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a rental car. The staff there had no sympathy for people who’s flights were delayed and instead of having a conversation with customers they would walk up to people and without saying anything else would ask for their name and tell them to come back tomorrow. In short, they were rude and didn’t look to communicate with anyone. I would advise anyone I know to never use budget again - this experience has ensured I will go out of my way to not book with them again.

Waited over an hour to get into a car that looked like it had been a crash test dummy. Shocks were shot yet the car only had 6500 miles on it. Purchased insurance through kayak yet didn’t get confirmation email till after we returned car. Would never use kayak again.

Horrible experience. I picked car up to a car with no brakes , filthy and no charger installed. I asked to replace car and was told I’m the one who picked an economy car. Rude! Then replaced car had faulty engine and brakes problems but I kept it since it as a hassle for them to replace. Car was also filthy. When I returned the car they told me I had to go vacuum the car from sand that had no foot mat. Rep stated on the paperwork it was 3 mats and was a lie. Only 2 back mats came with car. Only reason I didn’t score it poor is because I survived this death trap!

Rental agents very pushy with all the extras that some renters don’t need or desire. I purchased full coverage collision through Kayak for half of what dollar charges, and agents got rude and I was told that with my full coverage damage and collision coverage that I still needed theirs. Finally got them to decline their full coverage and got out of there. They still added pre paid gas charge, which I didn’t need cuz I alway fill the tank when I return rentals. Also this car was dented, scratched, missing hub cap, damage from prior rentals. I took pics., videos, and logged down all damage prior to leaving. In the states, this rental would have been on he auction block last year. Not happy at all with this experience. Will choose another place next time.

Cons:

No pavement at the pick up office - you have to drag your suitcases through rocks. No ac area for family, only one person is allowed in the office (makes sense during pandemic), check in takes awhile, other people have to stay outside in the heat. Confusing shuttle service at the airport, local phone number is not provided, no shade in pickup area

Premium SUV

Our battery died twice. Had to take the car back to the airport. Parking in a St Thomas was awful so it wasn’t worth the money if the rental and we still needed to take cabs to get places that were astronomical. Next time I go to Caribbean it will be an all inclusive.

well, it took 2 hours to get my car; we ordered a luxury SUV and i was given a Nissan Kicks, which is no luxury SUV; i was overcharged initially; had to go back and fix everything. eventually they gave me another SUV (not the dodge durango we asked but a grand jeep); but was not pleasant.

We rented an SUV but when we arrived we were told that we’re none available and we’re forced to take a Nissan Altima for 5 adults. I showed the confirmation email to the Hertz team member and she just shrugged her shoulders and said there was nothing she could do. Was the worst experience I’ve ever had renting a car.
