Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Good flight, love frontier"
Pros: "The flight attendants were very nice and comforting, as this was my first time ever flying and I was terrified."
Cons: "The boarding staff were rude! There was absolutely no form of entertainment. The seats were uncomfortable online said they recline for comfort however I couldn't find anywhere to get them to recline."
Pros: "Easy check-in with app. Boarding by zone was smooth. The best part is that they send emails with with great deals, so the price was amazing!"
Cons: "There was no entertainment offered. No complimentary food/drinks."
Cons: "EVERYTHING is an add on!!! Ticket price might be cheaper when you price check ....but by time you add on all the add ons your ticket price is NOT the best price. Won't fly Frontier again."
Cons: "Flight delayed To much extra charges (seat, carry on, etc)"
Pros: "Great take off and landing. Very comfortable seats."
Cons: "That no snacks or beverages were provided for free"
Cons: "Added fees for seat and carryon luggage."
Pros: "That they waited for a plane to get in and take the passengers who were already booked. Between the holidays and bad weather, it was the right thing to do."
Pros: "Was late but the time was made up in the flight. Was quick and fine."
Cons: "Rude lazy attendants. No effort to offer even water to me on a two hour flight. All they wanted us to do was clean up trash to make their job easier. Nickel and dimed and this kind of service?????? Also didn't need a repeated 15 minute sales pitch for a credit card!"
Pros: "absolutely nothing."
Cons: "cheap seats, dirty plane, garbage in the front pockets. Nickle and dime you to death on everything!"
Pros: "very warm staff"
Pros: "Boarding seemed to move really quick and seats were comfortable and seemed roomy."
Cons: "Flight was an hour late leaving. Check in at ticket counter was beyond packed, the line wrapped around."
Pros: "Staff was nice"
Cons: "They have stripped down the seats of this plane to make more room to squeeze in more rows. The seats are incredibly uncomfortable even for my short 3 hour flight. The try table is less than the size of a half sheet of paper - you simply cannot put your laptop up and work. $35 for a carry on, nickel and dime you for everything including a drink. Last time I will be flying frontier!"
Cons: "The initial price did not include a free seat . Had to pay $16.00 extra for a seat."
Pros: "The crew was fantastic!!!!"
Cons: "Seats were too close. Hardly had room to move at all."
Pros: "safe, on time"
Cons: "luggage and seat fees"
Pros: "The flight attendants were helpful and personable."
Cons: "After paying the already inflated baggage fee online, they claimed I hadn't paid and made me do it again at an even higher rate. Also, the seats are hard and uncomfortable. No drinks or snacks available unless you are willing to shell out money and pay three times as much as you normally would for those items."
Cons: "1. You can't use electronic boarding passes, which I didn't know until I had made it through the security line in a huge airport. They sent me back to the frontier gate, but by then I made missed my flight. 2. They charged me $100 for a new flight 3. The seats were like rocks 4. They charge for sodas and carry on bags I think one of my fellow passengers said it best when someone asked him what he was doing after the flight, "Trying to regain the dignity this airline has stolen from me""
Cons: "All frontier cares about is nickle and diming their customers. The flight was not too much less than any of the other airlines, but I should've done reviews before choosing them. They charge you $20 for your seat on top of your fare when you try to check in 24 hours early. They charge more for a carry on than a checked bag. They do not provide anything complimentary during the flight. Drinks are $2. Overall, I spent just as much as I would've with Southwest of American, but I felt ripped off and unappreciated. If you want a loyal customer base, Fronteir, I suggest you change your flight policies. This is 2016 and customer service is everything."
Cons: "The customer service from Frontier was atrocious! Avoid at All Cost!"
Pros: "The flight attendants and staff were friendly"
Cons: "The flight was delayed and they didn't even keep us posted as to what was going on with the flight. By the time we arrived to the gate, our gate was occupied so we had to sit on the plane for an even longer amount of time. If anyone had connecting flights, they would have missed them by far."
Pros: "The only two things I was dissatisfied with was baggage claim how nearly after 25 minutes finally our bags came. The second was the air stewards. They kept smashing into me and I was sitting on the aisle seat. One was skinny so I don't know why she kept bumping my arm the second one was overweight and even if he sidled he still would brush passengers's parts of their body on the aisle side. The tall skinny stewardes walked very heavily and I was trying to nap and everytime she walked past it woke me up. She needs to learn how to walk lightly that's my feedback"
Pros: "I don't usually even do reviews but since flying with Frontier from many places. But being military and flying from multiple cities and going with Frontier I have experience super cheap tickets through other websites, quick check ins, free baggage because I am military and non-stop flights that have great take off and arrival times. Frontier is my favorite out of the many other airlines I have taken."
Cons: "Angry staff, uncomfortable seating, and the poor scheduling updates."
Pros: "The crew was as helpful as possible, very kind and clearly as frustrated with the situation as we were, and did their best to make sure the rest of our flight was comfortable."
Cons: "My flight was delayed for three hours. We were loaded on to the plane, then told it would be another hour, got off the plane, got back on, and it was still another 20 minutes until we started moving. It was tiring, frustrating, and caused a lot of issues with my ride in Phoenix. I do understand, however, that many of the issues were unavoidable, such as mechanical problems and missing mechanics, but it was frustrating nevertheless."
Pros: "I liked the amount of space I had in my seat that I voluntarily paid to have."
Cons: "The seat itself was not very comfortable. Also, a member of the crew was either not masking her disdain for her fellow crew members very well, or has a wicked case of resting-bitch-face, it was kind of off putting."
Cons: "I had a pretty unpleasant experience with Frontier on 12/21/15. Rain in San Francisco caused flight delays. Go figure. Frontier kept us waiting for six hours then cancelled the flight. They were rude; they didn't help their customers, including families with kids, get on other airlines; said they would try to getpeople out of SFO in the next couple days! When I realized I would not get to the wedding I was trying to attend, they siad they wouldn't refund my money' When I insistedon a refund they then said there would be a $19.99 cancellation fee. Eventually, they agreed on a refund. Pretty poor way to run a business. On the other hand, when I needed to cancel my Enterprise car rental, I was able to do it in less than two minutes over the phone - no hassle."
Pros: "The crew was fine."
Cons: "It is incredibly dishonest to not include the 40$ fee to carry on any bag, and 13-20$ fee to choose a seat, bringing up a 60$ per flight leg additional cost. That means roundtrip tickets can easily be 100$ more expensive than listed, making other, more reputable airlines actually cheaper. Not to mention they do not take electronic tickets like every other airline, and when the flight was delayed, I went to have my ticket printed and no one was staffing the desk and no automated kiosks were available. I managed to flag someone down and they wanted to refuse to print me one because "my flight was listed as earlier" despite me being emailed by them that the flight was delayed. I eventually got to my destination, but I will never book a flight with them again. Let's not even mention charging for water, the plastic seats on the plane, etc. Terrible airline."
Cons: "You should let your kayak users know that frontier doesn't allow carry on bags the way most airlines do and that you have to pay $30 for one. It's deceiving"
Pros: "I got where I wanted to go for a reasonable price."
Cons: "I did not calculate for the extra fee for a carry-on. I'm always disappointed when I don't get a complementary beverage and snack. Sad but worth the savings."
Pros: "The plane was clean, the staff on flught was professional but I already knew I would have to pay for a carry on so opted not to take one. Stepped on board with a bag to go under a seat which was the only saving grace for a flight with this airline. A reasonable price if you aren't taking much."
Cons: "After the flight I looked at my credit card statement and noticed a LARGE, unexplained charge. (When I say large I mean 4x the price of the original ticket). Turned out that when I checked in they decided I needed my full middle name because the initial wasn't enough, even though that's all they originally asked for. Then they automatically charged me for the change without notifying me! Reported it to my credit card company as fraud until I found out what happened. They ended up refunding the charge, admitting they shouldn't have charged it in the first place, but what a hassle! Not an airline for passengers who care about their money."
Cons: "Didn't make flight because online boarding pass would not scan, and there was no crew at ticketing counter to assist. I was told by TSA, and not the airline, that the same crew at the ticketing corner moved to the gate to board people 45 minutes before flight. Because I was there 40 minutes before flight, I got zero customer service. This was my first and last time flying Frontier! I wish zero stars was an option."
Pros: "Nothing... Charging for baggage overshadowed everything I canceled the return and Booked on southwest. This is an dishonest, tricky, unethical company."
Pros: "Very efficient and friendly crew."
Cons: "Flight delayed."
Cons: "$45 for carry on!!!!!!!!!!! We had no idea. No where did Kayak let us know that there would be extra charges for carry on. Never will use Frontier again, if possible."
Pros: "The smooth flight"
Pros: "paid for exit row - was very comfortable"
Cons: "Was surprised that it cost to bring even a carry-on item - also, that soda had a charge. Should have been clearer when the cost of the flight was identified, in particular the carry-on charge."
Cons: "The flight crew prior to getying on the plane were rude and outlandish. They have no tact and were not respectful to travelers. You have to payfor what others consider complimentary services. In addition, the flight was delayed with no explanation. I will not be flying frontier again."
Pros: "I have only flown major Airlines carriers my entire life until last week when I booked a flight on Frontier Airlines. I was as impressed with this airline as any others that I have flown in the years past. I would definitely recommend this airline and will be flying it more in the near future!"
Cons: "Since it is a smaller carrier, the destinations and times are limited. However, I will Frontier anytime that I book a flight and it fits my itinerary! Great airline!"
Pros: "Friendly staff"
Cons: "Hidden costs, uncomfortable seats, little space. Not worth the cheap tickets when you then have to pay for a seat and high prices for baggage. It comes out the same as other airlines."
Pros: "Good crew and cheap flights."
Cons: "Both destination and returning flights were delayed. I knew about the carry on and checked baggage fees, but it was still a bit of a hassle. Make sure you pay during booking to get the best prices. I did NOT know all drinks and snacks were an extra charge. If you know all this ahead of time and don't have a time schedule, it is a great, inexpensive company"
Pros: "Can't believe I was charged $45 for a carry on bag each way. Soda and coffee starts at $1.99. Was not informed byKayak and priceline that these fees would be in place. The only good thing is this is a nonstop flight Austin to Las Vegas that on united and American has layovers."
Cons: "I will fly Southwest next time because the fees added up to almost $100.00"
Pros: "My return flight from Houston to SFO was scheduled to depart at 2:50 pm. I showed up at noon to check in, and had to wait an hour for Frontier personnel to show up to man the check-in desk. Two of the three automated kiosks were out of order, as well."
Cons: "The entire experience was horrible. The flight was delayed 6hours in which initially it was due to fog, then no plane available as all.other airlines departed, and there was no representative available during the entire process for Q & A. I had to take another in order to arrive in ATL for a business meeting which I missed."
Pros: "Frontier is cheap as hell. They charge you for baggage but aren't as bad as Ryanair. If you check in online and pack a reasonable amount of toiletries and a laptop into a travel bag, you can expect a travel experience that is superior to Greyhound for the same or less. Don't compare them to first class on Emirates, that would be unfair. Compared to Greyhound or Ryanair, it was a superior travel experience."
Cons: "Small in flight tray tables unable to hold a laptop. No biggie."
Pros: "That I finally got home after a long wait in the airport not knowing what was causing the delay."
Cons: "After you add in all of the extras like paying for your seat and carry on baggage, the price isn't as attractive as represented. It was a topic of discussion on the flight when we finally got off the ground. There were 5 gate attendants working the flight that had no earthly idea what was going on and when they did find find out they wouldn't share the information. Overall not a good experience. I can't see a situation where I would fly Fronteer again."
Pros: "Ladies on crew where very motherly and had a lot of attitude to give everyone. The guy on crew was nice and professional."
Cons: "Calling last boarding 30 mins before departure was not cool. After leaving TSA we had to run at full speed to our plane due to the announcement of last call"
Cons: "I was on the phone for more than one hour I can’t fly cuz I got an accident so I can drive more sooooo I was trying to cancel my fly and never pick up the phone"
Pros: "The spacious exit row seating."
Cons: "One of our checked bags didn’t arrive with us. We paid for the checked bag and now have to go replace items that are needed for an event tonight. It is a hassle but spirit says they will reimburse us for the items we purchase to replace our lost belongings."
Cons: "Didn't have any food or entertainment, that's the reason for the low score. You need a N/A"
Pros: "You have no control over this.... flight attendant rocked!!"
Cons: "Your harassing survey"
Pros: "it was sufficient"
Cons: "charged for bag at check in."
Pros: "The on board service was statisfactory and curious."
Cons: "For me the seats were too small. I am 6ft3in 200 slim pounds. If i could of gotten an isle seat or emberency door and picked my seat ahead of time even paid more for it would of helped. Getting to check in early does not get you a spicific seat. A child can be put in an isle seat whereas an adult can be put at the window seat slighty more cramped."
Pros: "The flight was great"
Cons: "The fees"
Pros: "Everything was on time."
Cons: "Being nickle dimed for all services."
Cons: "They charged $110 for golf clubs and a small suitcase. My flight was going to be on time but the decided to give that plane to the people heading to Vegas because they had been delayed all morning. Spirit told us we would be delayed four hours, then 30 minutes later they said the flight was completely cancelled. I had to go back to the main terminal to pick up my bags and had to go to the Spirit Airlines ticket counter to rebook and get a refund. The line was so long and slow it would have taken hours to talk to someone from Spirit. I called Customer Service and was on hold for 50 minutes before I could finally get refunded. This made me miss the last Spring Training game in AZ! I've been flying for 35 years and this was the worst flying experience in my life!"
Pros: "Nice plane, good boarding process, friendly crew, on time."
Cons: "Cramped uncomfortable seats, had a steel bar in my back, very little padding. Exorbitant baggage fees and seat charges - I could have flown the majors for less!"
Pros: "The stewards were very pleasant. It was easy to board."
Cons: "Had to pay for snacks...So I didn't have any. And your carry on prices are outrageous. Actually the bag charges all around were a bit excessive."
Pros: "When they grossly overcharged me on 1 checked bag they did refund the difference."
Cons: "website is very hard to navigate and I am proficient on the computer."
Cons: "3 1/2 hours late taking off. I would not use Spirit Airlines if I had to be somewhere on time."
Cons: "Having to figure out on my own to check bags days before so I wouldn't get charged a ridiculous amount when I arrived. Wasn't allowed a carry on for free. Be sure to print your boarding pass a day ahead of time or they will even charge you for that! Fly name brand airlines, it will cost the same on the end if not less."
Pros: "Crew was great and entertaining."
Cons: "The flight was delayed both ways 3 hours. On a 3 day get away we spent 2 of them sitting in the airport. Will never fly spirit again."
Pros: "Good Stewardesses - good service. I like the Airbus jets."
Cons: "50.00 to check a bag bites."
Cons: "The plane took well over 40minutes to depart. I asked a flight attendant if she could solve an issue that I had with the seat I was in, she said sure and never did a thing. I sat next to a rude and inappropriate couple that was making out and kept bothering. I felt uncomfortable thought the entire flight. I will never fly with spirit again. I've had other issues as well with spirit the last time I flew but decided to give them a second chance. Never again."
Pros: "Prompt departure or arrival"
Cons: "Paying for extra luggage weight over 40 pounds. All other airlines set it at 50 pounds so when told I had to pay a ridiculous $25 because bag was at 47 pounds (underweight for other airlines). It spoiled my experience with Spirit. You advertise cheap prices but are sneaky with extra costs. Ridiculous. I do not ever plan to fly Spirit ever again. Disgusted. Let people know in large print that the luggage weight is 40-yet that's ridiculous not to go with 59. Women at checkin were unfriendly & unprofessional. Such a horrid experience."
Cons: "I missed that my airfare would not include paying additional for carry on luggage."
Cons: "I paid more in bag fees than for the flight. Fraudulent!"
Pros: "Nothing......the flight was delayed. ...Pilot did make up some time."
Cons: "Tickets are cheap but airline doesn't tell you of all the hidden fees like luggage fee seats etc. Plane had several empty seats yet flight attended didn't let people switch seats."
Pros: "I like that Spirit offers a build-your-own flight: you can pay for luggage and a good seat and the total comes to about the same as another airline's airfare, or you can just pack very lightly and not pay for any of the extras and it's a very inexpensive way to travel!"
Cons: "What are you saying about entertainment, there was nothing!!! Used to get a little pillow, blanket or watch a movie but nothing now!! Our 1 piece of luggage only weighed 22 pounds but had to pay $104.00 for round trip for it!!! Too much!!!!"
Pros: "I was glad to have a $118 round trip fare to Phoenix at peak weekend travel time. Crew was very pleasant and professional. Worked to get move other passengers around on a very fill flight so that I would be seated with my 11 & 12 year old daughters."
Cons: "When they say 'no frills' they mean 'no frills'! They even charge for water! Want a Coke? $3. Bag of pretzels $3 more. Luckily, our flight was only 1 hour 20 minutes long. I'm not sure i could have stood the seat much longer. i am only 5'1" tall and 120 lbs and I was cramped. I have no idea how a regular sized human would cram themselves into one of these seats."
Pros: "The bottom seat cushion was firm, suitable for long flights without butt pains."
Cons: "I usually like to fly an airline that doesn't make every attempt to be as inexpensive as possible; however this flight from Chicago to Phoenix for $177 was the earliest available so I made my decision based on that. What I didn't like is what you can probably guess; I was dinged $55 for a carry on bag, check in was through kiosk only with agents available is something went wrong (the card reader on mine was bad), there was no complimentary anything on the flight - that includes water, and there were advertisements in the plane. Ugh,"
Pros: "On time. Pleasant crew. Price of flight."
Pros: "We arrived on time and safely."
Cons: "The check in baggage is now 40 pounds max, carry ons you are charged for, the seats don't lean back, advertising posters were located inside the cabin."
Cons: "We cancelled that flight from Denver to Phoenix. Please advise."
Pros: "The flight attendants were quite amiable and realize it's a cheap airline, which made it slightly more enjoyable"
Cons: "Extremely tiny seats that don't recline (and I'm a small person). The plane was delayed because they couldn't find a gate to dock in, even though the plane was just sitting there. All food and drinks are for purchase only."
Pros: "I bought a set for $14 so I boarded early."
Cons: "baggage charge is too high! And I got knicked for my carryon too $100 more cost. Never flown Spirit; did not know it's an airlines for those who don't bring anything. Not even free water on board or a soda - crazy. None of the seats on the plane recline - merely a cattle car airline."
Cons: "We landed in Dallas at 1 am, when we were suppose to land at 10:45 PM the day before. This was due to weather, and I know that Spirit can't control that, however, they PROMISED us that our connecting flight to PHX would be held for us. I would have understood if they said they cannot do that, but they promised us that it would be and then let that flight leave 10 MINUTES before we arrived. That makes no sense to me. Either hold the plane or don't, but why let it leave 10 minutes before we landed??? Anyway, I was then in the front of the line for information and was told that I could get on a flight to Las Vegas in 10 minutes and then get a flight to PHX later that morning, or risk not getting to PHX until 10 PM that night. They rushed us onto the plane and gave us a boarding pass for this flight and said that our boarding passes and hotel information would be waiting for us in Vegas. We landed in Vegas, and NO ONE from Spirit knew what was going on. It took another 1-2 hours for them to have our information sorted, and the only reason they had any customer service present was because a different flight had been delayed, otherwise we would have been alone at this airport with nothing set up. It was a really disappointing way to start a vacation."
Pros: "The crew was friendly and helpful and we left on time"
Cons: "$104.00 for two small bags checked that could have fit in overhead bin. Never fly you again. You suck."
Cons: "Was an hour and a half late and the seats are very uncomfortable. For the 20 bucks or so I'll fly a different airline"
Pros: "No room, great ticket prices but get you with luggage. I feel like this is a scam to get people to fly. Overall....honestly I wouldn't fly Spirit again. Sorry! P. S. And..... You have to pay for your own snacks through Spirit unless you bring your own, so anyone that's going to fly Spirit think twice about it."
Pros: "I thought that the rate is paid was great cause the leg from Dallas to Phoenix is a regular route. I only usually paid about $15.00 more. But my surprise came when I was ready to board. My carry on was a regular sized back pack that weighed 9lbs , Because it was 4inches taller than the carry on sizing box I had to pay $55.00 in order to board my flight. Now keep in mind I only $69.00 dollars for the flight it self. The ticket agent was rude and threatened to charge me $100.00. I would never fly this airline ever again, and I will spread the horrible experience"
Cons: "Many people who were waiting to board other flights shared my feelings of being dooped by this airlines strategy. If you have to wait and charge people ridiculous prices at the boarded point I feel that is being dishonest. I would rather be told all of the fees upfront without surprises at the end."
Cons: "The flight was very delayed because they didn't have a working aircraft for us. The staff was rude and angry and yelling at most passengers the whole time."
Cons: "Delayed flights, wrong gates, wrong carousels for my bag."
Pros: "It was a smoothe flight."
Cons: "Double charged me for baggage and there is no way to talk to a live human on the phone. Website has no 'contact us'. Charging for everything is just wrong. Seats are uncomfortable, seats too close to each other. Will never fly spirit again. Got the same reaction from those around me. Flight from Phoenix to Denver was delayed 40 minutes because someone checked their bag but did not get on the plane."
Pros: "The price and professionalism of the employees!"
Cons: "Very disappointed. They misplaced my bag for the entire trip. Central customer service is very difficult to get a hold of (I have yet to get a hold of them) and the front desk staff is unaccountable and incredibly unhelpful. Will not be using Spirit in the future."
Pros: "Crew was nice"
Cons: "No Internet"
Pros: "The flight attendants, the departure gate attendants and the pilots were wonderful; both kind and helpful. Also, the aircraft was clean and my accommodations were as comfortable as could be; seats are NEVER wide enough for my shoulders and all airlines pack too many passengers too close together."
Cons: "The initial fare seemed to be very reasonable, but I felt "nickel and dimed" to DEATH. I had to pay extra money to sit with my husband, even though I bought our tickets months in advance. The weight limit for a suitcase is 10 pounds less than the industry standard; I was charged another 25$, since ours weighed 48. Water, coffee and other beverages that are normally complimentary...another charge. You want to bring a carry-on item along with your purse/personal item...CHARGED AGAIN. All said and done, our tickets, with all of the extras came to $950; even flying Delta, with two tickets, one checked bag and two complimentary beverages would've been less expensive. While your competitors may charge more money initially for a flight, at least they are upfront about the fees/charges. I have learned my lesson and in the future, would choose to rent a car and drive to my destination before I'd ever fly Spirit again."
Pros: "Got cancelled"
Cons: "Got cancelled"
