I did not like that I had to offload some of my belongings out of my checked luggage. This was especially inconvenient as I had to deplane in Guatamala and go through their customs and security procedure all to get on the same plane 3 not so easy to get to gates over. And me with a broken toe, you can see how this would be not fun especially because I did not have any boarding pass or other information even telling me what gate I should be boarding at. It was really a small miracle that another passenger found someone to ask and I overheard the gate #. Stressful.

Extremely unhappy with this service and will never again use it. I will also tell everyone in my social circles, in person and online, to stop using it.

Cons: The passengers on this flight from San Salvador to LAX were drunk and standing in the aisles and talking VERY loudly for nearly the duration of the 4.5 hour flight, and the crew did nothing about it. I asked the crew (a grumpy male flight attendant) if they are allowed to do that, and he merely grunted. The female flight attendants smiled at the large men drinking in the aisles and continued to bring them drinks. My boyfriend had a large man's butt in his face for the duration of the flight. Behind us a man was talking very loudly and obnoxiously about his travels to the point where his voice woke us up. The crew did NOTHING to mitigate the obnoxious behavior of the passengers, and allowed them to stand in the aisle for the whole flight, to the point where we felt claustrophobic and invaded upon. We were particularly surprised as we've heard that this violates airline policy AND the crew did nothing to even ask them to sit or to move to the back of the plane. In addition, it was very hot at the AC was not working above our seats.

On my way back from barranquilla to miami, i was excatly 4 minutes late, they refused to let me on the flight, which was not even boarding yet (1 hour away from flight time). They forced me to buy a one-way flight back, with connecting flight, for $550. I don't know if this even going to make any difference, or even be read, for that matter, but i thought i would relay that to other customers who are thinking about flying with avianca.
Cons: I have no complaints about the actual flight. My problem is that I flew from Miami to Barranquilla Colombia. I checked one bag which had a lock on it. Nobody told me to remove it. When the bag arrived in Barranquilla it was wrapped in a plastic bag. Upon opening it the bag was open and my belongings tossed around. The lock was gone, one zipper was missing and the other zipper was damaged. Couldn't close the bag. Made a complaint in Barranquilla at the Avianca desk. They gave me another bag. Made another complaint over the internet at Avianca.com. Let see if they reimburse me.

Pros: Before our flight, several people were called to the check-in desk. These were obviously frequent flyers because later we saw these individuals sitting in Executive Class. Felt a little jealous, because I'm not a frequent flyer, but it was nice to see how Avianca takes care of its regular customers. Everything about the flight was first class, even if I was sitting in coach. The staff were friendly and helpful, the plane was comfortable--a 787, everyone's favorite--and the food was actually very tasty: chicken breast with a delicious green curry/salsa, some rice, green salad. Water and juices were available in the aft galley in between the meal and light snack before arrival. The entertainment offerings were terrific. If I hadn't had such great traveling companions to chat with, I would have caught up on some new releases I had missed, or one of the classics--"Singing in the Rain," "Citizen Kane," and much more. I don't know how you could improve the customer experience. Great job, Avianca!

Cons: After arriving in San Salvador from San Jose, another passenger informed us that there was a flight departing for LAX at around 3:30 PM. Considering that our flight was scheduled to depart at 7:25 PM, we decided to ask the customer representative at the Avianca information desk if there were any open seats available on our flight home to LAX. She informed us that there were open seats BUT we would have to pay an extra $200 to board that flight. I have been on other airlines before and they have offered me the option to get on an earlier flight - FREE OF CHARGE. Considering I had bought my complete, round trip ticket for $435, the idea of paying an extra $200 for one leg of my journey seemed ludicrous! So I stayed the 6+ hours in El Salvador. Fast forward 6 hours and the desk agent at our gate announces that our flight is completely booked and they are offering $300 for anyone who will give up their seats. I am PISSED. Avianca knew our flight was overbooked and had the opportunity to take two passengers off the list and free up seats for the next flight! Instead, they chose to make us wait and delayed our flight. I do not understand Avianca's customer service procedures. Why would you not put my friend and I on the next flight when you know the next flight is going to be overbooked and possibly delayed? I'll I know is that if I can avoid flying with Avianca in the future, I will do it.

In addition, departure from JFK was delayed as well, either we missed the IFR window or got stuck behind some traffic and I fell asleep on the plane only to wake up what seemed an hour later just getting ready to hit V1. Broken wheels (mine was completely gone), handles etc don't count, in other words, they can throw around your bags like they mean nothing to them because their policy protects them, not you. I'm pretty sure Copa isn't the only airline doing this but it needs to be said regardless, it's really not fair the way they treat / abuse customers' belongings without making themselves responsible for hardly any of it.
Pros: Again the crew was amazingly polite.
Cons: I had to sit next to a very overweight person and it was super uncomfortable.
Cons: TERRIBLE. Never had a worse flying experience. Was told at the first leg of the trip that there were 2 open seats on this flight but they would not reserve one for me. Mind you I booked this flight several months ago and somehow my seat got taken away from me because copa overbooked yet again. Worst customer service of all time. Was traveling with a group of 7 girls and got left behind in Panama because Copa took my seat away. Had to sit at the Panama airport for over 10 hours waiting for the next flight and arrive home at midnight. Copa would not allow access to a lounge or hotel even though they initially offered it when they said how they would take care of me if they couldn't get my seat back. Disgusted by how this airline operates.
Cons: My first plane was delayed. Then the flight delay exceeded to where I'd miss my next connection. Then I changed flights once the connection was going to be missed and had a narrow margin to catch the newly assigned connection which was the last flight to town. The flight leaving SF was delayed to where I missed my last flight and had to stay the night in Seattle. It seems all of this could have been resolved if I could have gotten on an earlier flight, which I was trying to do since 4:00 that day. I didn't end up leaving SFO until 9:00 pm
Pros: Our flights both left right on time. The connection time in Panama City was very short so we were concerned that our checked luggage may not make the second flight. Very impressed that our luggage did arrive in San Francisco without a hitch. Very friendly crew. They spoke good English too!

Cons: I was seated at an exist row at the window seat. The crew would not allow our row to stay seated at the exit row because she said we did not know Spanish well. Instead of finding us replacement of a window and aisle seats we had to take middle seats. She didn't even make an effort to ask if anyone would switch out. I wish airlines would train their crew to think out of the box style and practice customers service, which finds solutions and not state rules. In the end - people migrated to the exist aisle anyway (where we were seated) and made it into a bed.
Pros: Getting off the plane
Cons: Biggest problem was the inappropriate advice given in Sint Maarten by Copa employees about checking bags in Panama. This caused us to have to buy a new piece of luggage to transport something that couldn't be carried through security. Apparently TSA requires additional screening beyond the normal airport security for Tocumen. For Copa employees in Sint Maarten - whose only flights are to Tocument - to not know this is absurd. There was also an incident with duplicate seating that was handled extremely poorly. I was not involved, but it occurred on an adjoining seat. I finally resolved the problem by giving up my seat. Tocumen airport is not an airport that I want to see again. The security - as indicated above - is not up to standard, the flight listings are ridiculous (6 screens all showing the same flight information and never progressing past "M" In the alphabet, way too much duty-free shopping and way too little other signage. It's off my list.
Pros: I liked the modern aircraft, service, easy check in procedures..cost-free alcoholic alcoholic drinks were nice and the food served was tasty although there is room for improvement on the presentation (=appearance) of the meals served.
Cons: Copa cited some airport restriction on number of people they could accommodate on the plane due to weather and how this was handled and processed by the ground crew was just terrible. This affected a number of passengers -- 30 or more, by my estimates. And it started with the leg from Panama to San Francisco not checked in automatically and getting placed on standby. The call center did not offer a suitable explanation for the airport's weather restriction. As a frequent flier on the Star Alliance, I have not seen a situation handled as poorly as this. The ground staff seem very poorly trained to handle what seems to be a frequent situation. And despite most affected travelers being there early with a layover began to resolve this only 45 min before the flight. My appetite to fly Copa from San Francisco has vastly diminished. And so has the desire to fly through Panama City, if weather is as fickle as they say it is.
Pros: I was bumped from an overbooked Copa flight and was offered another that would get me home at 1am (rather than 3pm) or an overnight stay and a flight the next morning. Instead of trying to find a way home from the airport (a 1+ hour ride) in the middle of the night, I opted to stay in Panama overnight. Copa put me up in a very nice Sheraton in downtown Panama City with a pool, several restaurants, a casino... They gave me $20 per meal I'd be staying for (lunch, dinner, and the following breakfast), arranged a shuttle to and from the airport, and, the best part, a $1000 voucher for future flights with Copa within the next year - enough for two more round trip flights.
Cons: Communication was minimal or false. When I checked my bag, the agent told me that I was being placed on standby because of a weight limit on the plane. She assured me that the flight wasn't full and that I would absolutely get a seat. When I got to the gate, there was minimal information available, but about 12-15 people were on standby, including two families of 4 and 5 people. The agents were ill-informed and didn't immediately explain why so many of us were on standby and whether anyone would make it on the plane, or what the other options were for those who wouldn't make it on the plane. Eventually four or five people boarded, another few got moved to a later flight, and 6 including me were put up in a hotel. Betzy, a gate agent for Copa at Tocumen, was absolutely wonderful and so helpful and informative with all of this.

We were held inside the security of the airport without be allowed to leave to use the restroom, buy water or eat food.

If you want to provide a better customer experience, equip all your planes with seats video screens. Passengers on a 4 to 5 hours flight don't want to have to figure out what do to watch a movie or TV. I don't fly American that often, but wanted to give it a try to see the difference between you and the other airlines. I have to say that on the return segment (ORD to SFO), I was not that impressed.

Cons: People all over the coach section were complaining about not being able to sit together. Families with babies, couples, even ours (though the kids are old enough for me not to be truly worried as some were). Somehow reservations seems to have messed up an entire flight. We gave up trying to fix it for fear they would make it worse. Then the woman at the gate tried to get folks to volunteer to give up their seats on an overbooked flight. But she was screaming at us. Unbelievably unpleasant to be yelled at over and over again and told we could lose our seats. The poor weather likely caused flights to be rerouted into PHL so our flight out to SFO ended up 1/3 empty. FABULOUS. But the gate experience was horrible and the legroom, had it been a full flight, was miserable. I'm in search of an airline with a humane approach.

Pros: Very nice crew. The flight attendants were very patient and efficient. Flight was very smooth and surprisingly not overcrowded. For the first time, in a long time, when getting off of the plane it was very organized and not everyone rushing and pushing to get off. Everyone followed suit and did row by row, and no one pushing or shoving which is always nice.
Cons: The only this I would suggest is that on a longer flight you should offer better deals on food/snacks.
Pros: Flight had very few people on it so everyone could stretch out for the 6 hour flight.
Cons: The original flight turned around 45 minutes in and I missed my connecting flight. AA refused to try and get me on another flight the same day so I could make it to Sydney on the original day I was supposed to land. We waited 2/3 hours to board a whole new flight, and AA hardly compensated. If anything they should’ve provided a meal at least instead of a bag of pretzels. Flight crew seemed very inconvenienced and it showed.

Cons: No arm room when someone the size of an NFL player sits next to you and falls asleep with their arms relaxing into your space. Then they sleep open-mouthed with bad breath. I paid extra for that?
Cons: Seats were quite uncomfortable, there was no entertainment options, there was no way to charge any electronic devices because the plane was so old, which meant I almost wasn't able to catch a ride home after the flight. For a cross-country flight, I would expect a better experience.

It was boarding time and no agent was at the gate. 10 minutes past boarding time the screen shows that the flight is delayed 25 minutes... but wait, there is still no plane at the gate! After 45 minutes the plane arrived, again had to be "cleaned" and prepared for flight back to SF. Customers were told the flight was delayed because Air Traffic Control issues in SF, but there was no plane in sight... Again I felt we were being lied to. The plane was filthy with garbage everywhere still. I will never fly American Airlines by choice!

Pros: The flight was >1 hour late, which the pilot told us was due to the LAX controllers changing the landing patterns due to weather. So this really wasn't anyone's fault. But there was a large difference in comfort between this flight and the JAL flight from Tokyo. Seats were smaller, and my wife and I couldn't get seats together.

After our return to the gate for the second warning, I deplaned. Didn't feel safe after that!

They also didn't tell me baggage prices when I was there just swiped my card.
Pros: The crew was very nice and competent and obbiously embarrased by whoever in operations screwed this flight up good.
Cons: Pleane departed two hours and thirty minutes after original schedule because of operational and equipment problems. Plane wasn't even in Philadelphia unti 6:00 pm. The guy at boarding (unlike the boarding in SFO) called way too many groupss individually, First Class, Diamond, Premium, Gold, Priority. This led to many people being refused boarding and told to wait. In SF they simply call first class and then all the rest or the Aadvantage members together before the land boarding. Much faster and more efficeint. Even though the flight was full there less than 12 people in the Diamond, Premium, whatever classes. And the guy taking the boarding passes was a jerk. He actuallly seemed to take pleasure in telling people they couldn't board. Might not ever fly AA again. At least never from Philadelfphia.

Directed to go to 1of3 stand up desks located in the open away from the gate and boarding lines. Desks were attended by one United employee each. All 3 of us;wife, husband, child passports, boarding passes were checked, and then we were told to get in line to board the plane. About one minute after getting in line, wife name was called over the boarding desk loud speaker to see the boarding desk attendant. At the boarding desk, the boarding desk attendant instructed wife to go back to one of the open area desks to have documents checked again. The attendant then instructed wife that her and her bag would need to go through a secondary search before wife would be alloyed to board the plane. Wife was then accompanied by open area desk attendant and walked down terminal 8 gates to private type room where personnel quickly checked contents of single carry on bag focusing on phone and computer. Wife then directed to go ahead and go back to gate to board plane. Wife quickly walked to gate and met husband and child to present passports and boarding passes. At this time the wife and child began being verbally rushed by a male united employee to hurry up down the pedway, and told the plane needed to leave so hurry up. Needless so say wife, husband and child were the few last guests to be seated. Well, when trying to get seated, all the overhead space had been taken in the area around the assigned seats. When husband briefly described the secondary search situation and thus the current predicament with no space in the overhead for carry on, the attendant asked husband to follow attendant to front of plane with your bag in order to stow there. After speaking with some other attendants, space was made available in an overhead compartment near wife, husband and child seat. ***Please be aware when flying united.... While waiting in the boarding line after multiple security checks where you and your carryon have been scanned and more than one document check has been done, you may to be asked to take a walk to go through yet another bag check, and then be rushed to board a plane that needs to leave, and then find no room for your carry on, and then be asked to put your carry on in a remote location and deal with getting to it and back to your seat for the next 11 hrs if you want to access the contents of your carry on.

Cons: Entertainment required an app, that would be ok if the WiFi infrastructure could handle the onboard movies with out constant stoping to buffer. for a 5 hour flight I feel we should at least get a movie that is not on our devices.

Southwest at least allows you to have a free baggage. It's not the fault of the pilot but it also is very bumpy. The flight crew was fine and it's just the uncomfortable aspects of having my seat assignment changed and the extra charges for anything that makes it comfortable.
