I never made it to my destination because I was forced to return home to San Francisco, unable to see my wife-to-be in Brasil. I will never fly with this airline again."

Then, they boarded by zones, but I had no idea what zone I was supposed to be in and it was nowhere on my ticket. Anywhere. Then, when I finally decided to go try to board, they wouldn't let me because they said I didn't have a return ticket. In fact, I had proof of onward travel in three different forms. But they insisted that I had to have a flight as proof of leaving Guatemala and assured me that customs would prevent me from entering. They also said I had 5 minutes to book something or I would miss the flight. No one ever paged me to discuss this prior to departure! And do you know how much Guatemala asked about my onward travel? Zero. Nada. In the fluster of buying an almost $400 ticket, I clicked to book through a third party that doesn't allow refunds. Fortunately, after I landed I called them right away to cancel and managed to make it happen since the ticket hadn't been issued, but if I had failed at that it would have been at least $130 when all was said and done. Ride was uncomfortable, flight attendants we're rude and impatient, and I was ignored for food service."

On the return to El Salvador, ticket agents made me purchase a one-way return to the United States, claiming that I would not be allowed to enter El Salvador otherwise since I do not have residency there. Despite repeatedly explaining to them that I had done this multiple time before on other airlines, and that immigration in El Salvador does NOT ask for proof of return, they would not let me board unless I purchased a return ticket to the United States. As expected, I was NOT asked for ANY proof of return when entering El Salvador. The Avianca staff was uninformed, wrong, and rude. They showed no interest in listening to us or helping us solve this problem. I will now have to call and cancel this ticket, and fight to get the $25 ticketing fee refunded. Do not expect great service from Avianca."
Pros: "Delta is the airline to fly if you have to fly (like I did) during a pandemic. They made sure at every turn we felt as safe as possible. They had passengers distanced from each other the whole time, handed out sanitizing wipes as we walked on the plane, made sure folks kept their masks on, gave us individual little baggies with snacks and water bottles that also had individual hand sanitizer packets. I felt so much more safe flying Delta on my way home to Hawaii in July than I did when I flew American Airlines on my way to the mainland in June."

To go to Australia, Denver TSA waived the removal of shoes, skipped the scan for the metal detector and no one touched me, ditto for LAX on the trip to Sydney. Where's the uniformity or standards for TSA?? Why did I have to be subjected to this garbage on the way home?? This is why I despise flying. It makes no sense to me. This ruined what was a great vacation."

Cons: "While my experience with Virgin Australia was good, I will not book with them due to the co-share with Delta Airlines. I missed my connecting flight from LAX to JFK due to additional security screening. As such I was advised to head to the Delta terminal to be booked onto the next available flight to NYC. After waiting over an hour in line to be seen by a staff member, I was told that they couldn't change my ticket as it was a Virgin flight. The same staff member didn't seem to even understand the concept of 'co-share', and also told me that because I booked through Kayak and not Delta that they could not help me. This makes me think that booking through a third party is a risky move. I was told there was absolutely nothing she could do, and that I would have go to a Virgin Australia Counter. This involved taking all of my luggage from Terminal 5 - all the way to Terminal 3. I was assisted by Virgin Australia, where they apologized for my experience, and confirmed that it was Delta's responsibility (and that they were capable) of rebooking my flight. Virgin booked me onto a later flight, but I still had to walk back to Terminal 5 (Delta) to give them my checked luggage. I was once again told that I didn't have the right ticket (details listed Virgin and Delta flight number - so this was way too confusing for them). Finally they printed my a boarding card and took my bags. I then ran through security and to gate in time for my flight. Flight was fully booked, due to a many people no doubt experiencing the same thing. Food was awful. Was a big step down from the Virgin flight in every aspect. There was not a single Delta Staff member who would even try to understand or be helpful. I will never fly with Delta again."

(I understand I have to collect it on arrival into another country and then take to a bag drop) but with the same airline they claim they can't do this? I travel a lot and with many other flights internationally and I can tag my bags with different airlines all the way through, but NOT WITH VIRGIN WITH THE SAME AIRLINE ALL THE WAY THROUGH? They can't do it? Then 2 hour delay on the tarmac after taxiing out from the gate at LAX, which got us in late to Brisbane. The food on this leg LAX-BNE for the vegetarian option was terrible, which was strange as on the fist flight over from BNE-LAX it was the best vegetarian food on any flight I've ever had. Strangely 6 months out from our flight I tried calling Delta to upgrade our tickets and was told they had no way of doing it as the Delta computer system isn't linked Virgin system. Then calling Virgin to upgrade I was told I can't as it is a Delta ticker. We tried again a week out from the flight and got the same response and told to try at check-in. We tried then at check in and told they have no idea how to do this as only so many seats are allocated to Delta tickets and they can't access the Delta system?? So very frustrating and we could never upgrade?"

I saw right across from me there was an open window seat, which the lady sitting next to was using for her bags. I asked him if he could ask the lady to move her bags so I could sit there, or if there were any other window seats available. He said no, that if I wanted I could ask the lady myself. Completely unacceptable. Of course she has no I treat in giving up this free extra space she has to me, and I’m sure she would have been happy to if a crew member had asked/explained the situation to her."

Cons: "went to the airport to checkin for my flight from lax to panama, with a connecting flight to sao paulo, only to be told that because i didn't select a seat when i bought my ticket over 2 months prior, the airlines sold my seat (they overbooked the flight by 5 people or so). i had to wait at lax for the next flight, which wasn't until 8 hours later. the problem here was that i had bought a ticket to get to rio from sao paulo, and this delay made me miss that flight. so i had to buy another ticket, which was $175. i was only compensated a $400 voucher for missing the flight and for my time. not worth it. the airlines only provide you with a blanket. no pillow."

It's seems the option always dies in row 2, just after less than half of the passengers flying executive class have ordered they meal. The rest was great and I would fly copa again!"

Pros: "Total failure deception! I was denied access to the flight because of going into Peru they said I had to have a round-trip ticket and Copa would not let me on board. I was told this and after standing in line for over an hour waiting to check in at almost midnight in LAX. I spent hours on line I spent hours on the phone trying to recoup the situation. they wanted to charge me $325 to make changes plus other expenses of the airfare. I missed important connections in Peru. I am applying for a retirement visa there I should've been allowed to deal with immigration in Peru . However if it is the regulation of that airline that I'm not allowed in there without a round-trip ticket why did kayak sell it to me? Kayak cost me $539 and change not to mention a week and a half late getting to Peru! Customer service was just pretty much ridiculous I spent a lot of time on hold so somebody could go ask somebody who Ask somebody else a question. I could understand no refund however that was just downright not fair kayak and Copa airline basically screwed me over."

When we finally reached the front an hour had gone by and the customer service rep then said we must have an exit flight from Guyana to get our boarding pass. This is the first we'd heard of this although we had researched visa requirements, etc for Guyana. We stepped out of line and quickly booked a flight on our phone, but when we tried to jump back in again the attendant made us wait in line again (a shorter one, but not smart considering the time crunch at that point. Finally we got to the front again and the attendant was very slow about entering our information. Then suddenly she calmly noted, "oh, it's too late to check you in, you can't make this flight." ... We were upset to say the least and after pestering her further about a reimbursement she said we would have to wait until she dealt with all the other customers (a long line of an hour or more) and that she couldn't put us on the next few flights because they were full. Finally she let us borrow her phone so that WE could call customer service and try to deal with it. They of course gave us the run around and we still don't have a reimbursement and will likely never book with Copa airlines again. Hopefully after a few more phone calls we can eventually get reimbursed. :("

I didn't enjoy the fact the the terminal was changed and then the gate. Also, the attitude of the lady at the gate. I asked her to confirm if that was the final gate and she ignored me initially and was rude when she finally answered by pointing out the screen. I told her that I read the screen but was JUST asking for confirmation. Also, when we landed at Seattle everybody jumped up and crowded the aisle because the crew didn't instruct us to remain seated until their row was called. It was a mess. I enjoy that process from LATAM. Thank you.

Next, we were told hourly-wise to check-in at the gate to find out when our flight would leave. This was a hassle and caused me a lot of stress since I had to make new plans with a new itinerary for my arrival in Chile where I was supposed to meet my elderly parents. The staff kept telling me they didn't know when we'd leave asking me to check back four times before they were able to give me a definite time. Aweful experience that caused me a lot of stress and inconvenience."

Because of her misleading, out luggage was left in Lima and we landed in Cusco without our luggage. We are still awaiting to see where our luggage is."

Fortunately the woman who checked me in realized there was 1 seat available on the last flight that would get me to Lima in time for my connection flight (departing same time as my flight pre-delay). She personally got me to the front of the line, and ran with me just about to the gate, where I caught a shuttle to the plane. If she hadn't done so, and if I hadn't checked in so early, I would have been forced to stay in Lima 24hrs, despite buying a rightful seat and having reservations in Buenos Aires. It is appalling and unacceptable that y'all continue to overbook flights, causing incredible trouble, inconvenience and potential harm to your customers. For a service that costs so much, the only acceptable delays are weather and mechanically related. if it hadn't been for amazing staff immediately, I would've been furiously waiting in a city I didn't need or want to be in. Customer service will continue to grow your business or impede it negatively-- how y'all act is up to you. I appreciate how well I was taken care of by several kind individuals."

I love that the bathrooms have full length mirrors, hand towelettes, and are well maintained. Most of all, I love how compassionate,patient, and accomodating the flight attendants are."

Cons: "I will never fly American Airlines again. From the moment I checked in with the ticket agent to getting off the plane it was a disaster. The ticket agent was rude, hostile, and dismissive. Employees walked through the line at security forcing everyone to consolidate their belongings to one bag. I had a large wallet in my hand and was told I had to step out of line to put it in my backpack. They only allow you one bag to carry on without paying extra. At the time of boarding they announced that the overhead storage was full so even those that paid extra were still forced to check their bags. The plane was dirty, the service was slow, overall just gross. They don’t have WiFi or in flight entertainment so I paid the $20 to purchase the WiFi. It was worthless. I couldn’t stream anything, even music kept stopping to buffer. I understand it will be slower then on ground WiFi, but it was impossible to watch anything and a complete waste of money."

But those seats were sold out long before we even got to LA! I contacted American Airlines Customer Relations about 1 month prior to my flight. I completed their online form detailing the problem and asked if there is any way I could buy extra leg room seats. But they never even bothered to respond. I got the automated email acknowledging receipt of my complaint and assuring me I would be contacted soon. NOT!!"

I missed my flight because I had to go find it in baggage claim, take a taxi to another terminal, hoof it across the terminal to TSA pre-check which was 45 people deep and slow as a snail, then run to the gate (which was at the ooooother end I originally entered through). I missed my flight literally by 3 minutes. There was no one at the gate to help me, AA staff kept telling me to go to different places, getting a new flight was INSANE. The whole experience was a pure nightmare."

The knob to control air flow was broken which made it chilly. To finish as I started, a more engaged and pleasant crew could have made all the other things more palpable and acceptable. They were just too cold, like the temperature in the cabin and distant."

My wife, 2 year old son, and I was boarding at the gate and they couldn't scan my son's boarding pass. They quickly went over to the computer station and gave my son another pass. We went to our seats and found out someone else is in our 2year old seat. Apparently they gave the seat to someone else at the last second because up to the point when I printed our boarding passes at the kiosk, our seats were still together (and I paid $41/per seat extra to try to keep us together). The other customer was nice enough to switch with our son so were able to stay together at the last min so it goes to show AA priority and service."

Had to walk to a different terminal of LAX wait in 2 more lines and by the time they were able to assist it was too late to check in. Missed the flight, have to rebook a 3 hour later departure, move the meeting and take a flight back 4 hours later that has a layover and adds about 2.5 hours more on the return leg. Not to mention having to pay for the new seat."

That part wasn't really the airline's fault though, and I could see that the flight attendants were asking her several times to get her son to quiet down. I just wish there were regulations on these sorts of situations. Everyone around you suffers when you bring a small child on a very long flight because they will inevitably be bored, cranky and uncomfortable, and because we are confined to our seats, we are forced to suffer through it all. I wish that children under a certain age would not be allowed to board flights over a certain length of time except for special circumstances."
