Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Fare, boarding, seat selection, ease of purchase."
Cons: "On my first leg of my round trip flight free refreshments were offered. On my return flight they were not and was told everything beside water only was available for purchase. It also seemed a bit unsafe for during the course of the short 2:15 hr flight between Chicago and Austin for the Pilots to leave the cockpit with the only things standing between someone rushing the cockpit when the door is opened are a drink cart and an older female flight attendant."
Pros: "Steamboat Springs, CO There were many CUBS fans on this flight! Good to leave rainy Chicago & arrive in dry Denver! Even though the plane was late, I was still able to catch my Alpine Taxi to Steamboat!"
Cons: "There should be a way to know when the bathroom is available!"
Cons: "The fact that Reclining seats are a upgrade is unexceptable . The price online to check in your bags change during a check in. I was charged more than what your website state. The check-in reservation is was rude and unwilling to correct a computer glitch . She stated that your software had no ability to override a mistake."
Pros: "Not much. Very amateur service"
Cons: "To pay $40 for a carry on bag is being a thief. The seat in the plane do not recline... comfort is a thing of the past!"
Cons: "Worst flight of my entire life."
Pros: "absolutely nothing."
Cons: "cheap seats, dirty plane, garbage in the front pockets. Nickle and dime you to death on everything!"
Pros: "The seats were comfortable enough. The departure was 40 min late, but the plane eventually landed according to the original schedule, which was nice. The price was very good, even with adding 40$ for too big carry-on."
Cons: "The attendants were talking way too much, making different announcements and explanations almost non-stop. They also organized some kind of reshuffling of people inside the plane due to the need to ... rebalance the aircraft. Never saw it at any other airline."
Pros: "Nice crew"
Cons: "They nickel and dime you for every little thing! You want to bring any luggage? Too bad it costs $35 or $60 per bag. You want to pick your seat? Too bad it's $11+. You want any food or drink on the plane? Too bad it's expensive."
Cons: "Email notification of a 3 hour flight delay 2 hours before flight but I was already on my way to the airport. Then the flight gets cancelled but no email notification was sent and the screen wasn't updated at the gate (the whole time I was there). If I hadn't come back to the gate during the long delay and asked a fellow passenger why they were in line, I wouldn't have known it was cancelled for a long time. The employees at the gate were helpful in refunding our tickets, etc. but overall, not happy with my experience with Frontier Airlines."
Cons: "Behind, plane troubles, and very uncomfortable seats. Not worth the money"
Cons: "there were too many delays and the situation was handled poorly. I do not plan to fly Frontier again in the future."
Cons: "The crew made us move from the seats I booked without a good explanation"
Cons: "Worst seats in any plane I have EVER been on (and I travel ALL the time). Those steel seats with 0 cushion have resulted in me having the worst back pain and being on bed rest for the past 3 days on severe pain medication with no signs of improvement. I will never fly Frontier again."
Pros: "The tate"
Cons: "Paying for bags"
Pros: "There wasn't any in flight entertainment and I didn't order food, so that's why my rating is neutral. Our flight back was 30 min early, so that was great."
Pros: "The price was good."
Cons: "But not that good."
Pros: "Crew were arguing with passengers over seating arrangements and when it came time to throw out garbage at the end they completely ignored half of the rows. Even after the lady next to me yelling to get their attention."
Cons: "See above."
Pros: "Efficient, quick flight!"
Cons: "No free snacks!!"
Pros: "We got there safe and sound."
Cons: "The gates were changed almost at the last minute and we didn't hear any announcements. A few passengers we're almost late for boarding. I found out because some lady came by and asked if this was the flight to some where else. That's how I found out the gates were changed. I told the rep to make sure that they make the announcement so everyone knows of the changes. I could of got on the wrong plane and missed my flight."
Cons: "Longest security line I have ever seen and I travel in a lot of countries all over the world that have outrageous security lines. Had an hour and a half to get through security and still missed the flight. Nothing could be done because the next flight was in 3 days."
Cons: "Lots of screaming children, but I had to fly to Orlando."
Cons: "The seats were uncomfortable, over priced snacks, no foods."
Pros: "On time"
Cons: "All the hidden costs"
Pros: "Cheap tickets."
Cons: "You have to pay almost as much for your bags and seat selection as the tickets. Seats are hard as a rock and really jammed together."
Cons: "The staff was informative and had great energy, unfortunately though, I had a very hard time getting comfortable. I'm 5'5" and I had absolutely no leg room, I felt claustrophobic and uncomfortable the entire flight."
Pros: "free water"
Cons: "the flight was late coming and going by over an hour."
Pros: "Everyone was friendly, will fly again soon to San Fran."
Pros: "everything going well from start to finish."
Cons: "I was a little concerned when the person in the window seat next to me left soon after take-off. I figured he was headed to the washroom, but never came back. These days, you never know if it might have been something that should have been mentioned."
Cons: "Everything. Frontier is awful and I will never fly with them again. They cancelled the flight for "weather" more than 12 hours in advance. By the time the flight was supposed to leave, flights were taking off from O'Hare without any problem. Next, they could not have been less cooperative in helping my find an alternative route to San Fran. After more than 2 hours of arguing with Frontier personnel, they magically found a way for me to get there via Denver. Finally, once I boarded the flight to Denver, the crew could not have been any less competent. I saw at least two instances where they had given away the seat of someone who had checked into the flight, then had to scramble to find them a new seat. Frontier is the worst."
Pros: "I will never fly Frontier again. Poor customer service. Poor baggage handling. Poor timeliness of flight and baggage delivery. Poor communication of flight delays and baggage mix-ups. Understaffed. Undertrained. Poor seats, particularly considering I paid for the best. Inadequate compensation for 8+ hour delay and missing baggage for 3 days. After all the nickel and diming for seats, baggage (checked AND carry on) it would have cost me less to fly my preferred carrier and avoided every hassle, not to mention the inadequate compensation (again). Horrible, horrible experience."
Cons: "I will never fly Frontier again. Pros: "Boarding was fast"
Cons: "Very very terrible seats. Always late"
Pros: "We had a flight to Philadelphia we boarded on time and landed early! It was great!"
Pros: "The boarding process was really good and the crew was really helpful with helping me with my luggage and finding the seat"
Cons: "The comfort of the plane I couldn't recline my seat the book light didn't work"
Cons: "1) Although flights are fairly low fare, they get you with baggage. Had to pay to check OR to carry-on. 2) Flew out of Chicago O'Hare - a major hub - and Frontier, Spirit, Virgin America, & Alaskan all shared a SINGLE security check. Yes ladies and gentleman, one security scanner. I have never in my life (usually fly American, United, or Southwest) waited more than 30 minutes to get through security. This time was well over an hour, I almost missed my flight. 3) On-board staff was friendly (all but one woman), but there were no complimentary beverages or snacks. I did pay for some & they were not too pricey, but having to whip out my credit card yet again made my whole travel experience feel far from effortless."
Pros: "Really good experience"
Pros: "The price for the trip was great. I thought the boarding was efficient and the flight crew pleasant. Check in at the airport was very easy although the automatic machines were non functing."
Cons: "Long pre security screening lines. The seating is rather cramped."
Pros: "I got where I wanted to go for a reasonable price."
Cons: "I did not calculate for the extra fee for a carry-on. I'm always disappointed when I don't get a complementary beverage and snack. Sad but worth the savings."
Pros: "Flights were cheap."
Cons: "You end up paying an additional $30-35 to check a bag or carry on-board, you also end up paying $15-20 to reserve a seat. In addition, they won't accept your checked-in baggage if you're not at the airport 45 min before boarding to drop it off. They made me re-book my flight out of Chicago for the next day and charged me $99. I was only 5 min late to drop my bag off, and because of bad traffic. The airline has no empathy, they seem to be only concerned with charging you at every opportunity they get. I will never fly frontier again."
Cons: "Frontier airlines. Rigid and unable to admit that they made a mistake. Caution towards anyone who flies with their special low discount rates. Many opportunities were taken by company to recover discounted fare (and I am not referring to any baggage costs) Besides money, they ruined a special weekend through delays. Think twice! In fact, my comment is in reference to customer service in general. Everything is a fight now. I'm not a screamer, I'm rational. I laid out, clearly, where their policy was contradicted and that some empathy was in order and in the process was hung up on once and have not received a reply to my last email. If you gave no intention to achieve quality customer service, why pay for the department? Maybe they don't."
Cons: "It was delayed and arrived 2 hours late. I had booked the flight specifically for its departure and arrival time. It was my first time flying with Frontier, and I will not fly with them again."
Cons: "Lost my luggage and people at check in were rude"
Cons: "The price of the trip did not include a seat, nor baggage, this was unclear and I felt misled. The seating is extremely uncomfortable. Checking in online was terrible, the website was hard to navigate, the prices were inconsistent (I was checking on my phone and computer at the same time and getting different rates for seats). I felt the communication was poor. I did not feel safe. I will not choose this Airline again."
Pros: "Inexpensive flight. Friendly but no nonsense crew."
Cons: "Why do they seat front rows first? You would think that would block people from getting in."
Pros: "Basic ticket price was good. Crew was friendly. Cabin was clean. Flight left on time and even landed early."
Cons: "Having to pay for all but 1 small bag. Having to pay to reserve seat. No Wi-Fi No in-flight entertainment of any kind. Not even a magazine."
Pros: "I tried to buy the $25 check in luggage with my ticket, but it was extremely difficult, so 1check in and 1 carry on was $85 extra. I will UPS luggage for return."
Cons: "Seats are packed tightly."
Pros: "The flight was fine. The seats are not well padded, like sitting on just the plastic. I did not purchase any food. There was no entertainment offered and since it was a 6 am flight, I slept. Frontier is a nice airline for a short trip, but I wouldn't want to desl with all the ectra charges for a longer vacation. The fact that I had to pay to pick a seat, that goes too far."
Cons: "All the extra charges."
Cons: "Was 5 minutes late for the check-in "deadline" and had to wait 12 hours until the next flight... Airlines used to try to accommodate passengers."
Pros: "Staff was excellent! Very attentive and accommodating. They care about their passengers!"
Cons: "The seats were so close together near the back of the plane that we could not put our laptop on the tray in front of us. Also the seats did not recline!"
Pros: "The airline crew was great and friendly"
Cons: "We got the seats in the last row and couldn't recline them. Didn't have anywhere to charge my device. No app was provided for entertainment neither was there screens for our 4 hour plus flight."
Pros: "Not a damn thing. The worst airline company in the world. If I could give negative star ratings the would get the most negative stars."
Pros: "The head crew member was hilarious with his jokes."
Cons: "They charged me for my bag however when i was buying a ticket it wasn't written anywhere"
Cons: "I was not given anything to drink"
Pros: "Jet seemed new and clean, flight attendant very nice."
Cons: "The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay! The 5-hour delay!"
Pros: "The Flight attendants and the pilots were great,"
Cons: "The flight was aver an hour delayed. With all the mess from the original flight to Chicago, I will never fly Spirit again."
Pros: "Landed early and gate open. Great trip all over he way even though in a middle seat"
Cons: "flight was delayed seat was terrible terrible airline"
Cons: "Paying for every single carry on suitcase"
Pros: "We boarded quickly and efficiently. We arrived at our final destination early."
Cons: "Seats were not very comfortable, but the flight was short so it did not matter too much."
Pros: "About the only thing that I can say I liked is, the boarding process went smothly for me & my luggage was on time."
Cons: "Where to start... paid more in bag fees & to get an isle seat for each(4)flights than I did for damn plane ticket! Flights delayed 4hrs another flight in same trip delayed 2 hours. Staff wasn't interactive/friendly I'd say 6/10 were nice. Asked for an isle seat the person helping at counter, said I'd have to pay to upgrade. Seriously- upgrade for isle seat!! I paid to have an isle seat on all 4 flights(I'm a disabled vet who was injured in the line of duty) I need easy access to toilets I'm unable to crawl over people, in turn need idle seat). Paid for isle seat all 4 flights- just to see the flights were super empty, people were sitting where they wanted anyway. Thanks for taking my $ for the seats tho spirit:-|. Staff wasn't that friendly compared to other airlines I've flown on. Not food. No entertainment on flight. Not worth it. If they don't do better business they won't last long I feel. There is potential just needs some work!"
Cons: "Same as above."
Cons: "I didn't like the baggage policy. I didn't like the check in policy or the fact that they don't support TSA precheck because they hope to sell you on an additional fee that will get you through a prority lane. I didn't like the seats which are hard plastic, close together, and don't recline. I didn't like the mini tray table that wouldn't support my laptop so I couldn't work. I didn't like that Spirit falsely advertises with the tag line "LESS MONEY, MORE GO" when the base fare for my connecting flight on this sub-par airline was more expensive than a direct flight on a better airline-before the other fees were added."
Pros: "The flight itself was fine, no delays. Crew was friendly."
Cons: "When I booked online I knew that I would be paying for a baggage fee. According to the website it looked like the fee would be $30. I was okay with that as it was still cheaper than flying a different airline. However, when I checked in (also online), the price was now $45 each way - so a $90 difference. The other flight would have been cheaper. For this reason I will probably avoid Spirit in the future."
Pros: "The crew on this flight were friendly, although the Spirit crew on my previous flight were very rude to a woman who was on her way to a funeral when she told them that one in her party had been left at the gate."
Cons: "EVERYTHING cost extra (snack, coffee, water, picking my seat, bringing a carry on, a checked bag over 40 lbs.). The seats didn't recline."
Cons: "Everything so awful airline"
Pros: "Open seats"
Cons: "Having a cold"
Pros: "Spirit Airlines does an excellent job. They had a full flight to Chicago, and I understand why! Their staff are fun, safe and courteous, glad to help in any situation. The seats were comfortable, and clean. The cabin was clean, and cold. I like cold. I'll fly Spirit every time. Thank you!"
Cons: "Everything was perfect. thank you"
Cons: "I booked my return flight the same day i booked my departure. I didn't recieve an email with my itinerary nor was i charged for the flight so i called the airline. After 30 minutes of my time wasted i was still on call waiting. The day before my return flight i panicked and bought a whole new ticket and then like 8 hours before muy flight i get an email asking if I'm ready for muy upcoming flight. I am completely disappointed with both kayak and spirit airlines. I WILL NEVER AGAIN BE BOOKING SPIRIT AIRLINES AGAIN!!"
Pros: "Cheapest flight is a win in my book. You get what you pay for and I paid to get there. Crew was nice, flight not so bad. Would only recommend this airline for flights less than 3 hours."
Pros: "everything went as planned"
Cons: "My flight got delayed twice, spent the day at the airport. And got fired from my job thanks kayak!"
Cons: "My flight was cancelled. Why are you asking for a review????"
Cons: "My flight was delayed the entire day until the very last minute which almost caused me to miss my flight. Spirit airlines is the worst airlines I have ever flown on. I will never flight Spirit again."
Pros: "Initially the price, but after all the fees, could have flown American for almost the same price."
Cons: "The airline is Vague, I guess if you read all the fine print and get to know the system it may work better."
Pros: "Nothing. There was nothing to like- it was cancelled."
Cons: "The flight was supposed to be at 9:30am- we got a phone call at 4:30am telling us it was cancelled because of weather. I checked both the weather in Minneapolis and Chicago and both were clear and sunny. So of course I called them to ask what was up and was put on the phone with some poor outsourced person who had no idea which way was up and kept repeating everything on his screen despite it making no sense. He offered to put me on the next plane out but that wasn't until the next day. As I was flying up for a wedding this clearly wouldn't work. I then asked to speak to a manager but apparently no manager was available. He ended up refunding me for the flight and telling me a manager would call me back. When the manager called me back it really got interesting. She said the same thing he did "a weather advisory grounded the plane" when pressed on what the weather advisory was she eventually said Winter Storm Celine. IN JULY!! A winter storm advisory for a storm that occurred in late March was apparently grounding my flight in July! Absolutely incredible. After that I just walked away. Took my refund and ran as fast as I could away from that miserable excuse for a company."
Pros: "low fare"
Cons: "check in process was confusing- one airport you had to pre-print, the other you didn't, no cell phone tickets allowed. There are higher fees for carry-ons than checked bags. Didn't like the attitude/marketing at all. I've flown other no-frills carriers but these guys just rubbed me the wrong way!"
Pros: "The tight quarters were challenging for my near 6 ft son. However, because the seats don't recline, he didn't loose any room to the person in front of him."
Cons: "Very few snack choices to purchase for anyone who is gluten-free ."
Cons: "The flight was cancelled in the last minute - For our plans it was a disaster. It was a big demage"
Cons: "Late boarding due to delays from previous flight."
Pros: "The crew was competent, my seat neighbors were friendly."
Cons: "Crammed seats, don't recline. No included beverage (not even water). "No frills" = budget airline. Want to have a carry on ? You'll need to pay for that. I do not recommend Spirit for flights over an hour."
Pros: "Staff was friendly and helpful"
Cons: "Flight was late, boarding info was not updated at terminals."
Pros: "The flight was good. I wish there had been a little more room but I will definitely fuse Spirit again if the flight is the right price"
Pros: "Seats looked new"
Cons: "The flight was delayed over an hour & half due to 'no landing time in NY'. Totally unrelated to weather or the aircraft. Drinks are available for a fee - even water!"
Pros: "Quick boarding. Do not like the pay more for larger seat or exit row. Flight was uneventful. Staff on board very pleasant."
Cons: "See above"
Cons: "The plane took off about a half hour late because they switched our gate at the time we were supposed to start boarding. Everyone had to be moved from one end of the terminal to the other."
Cons: "Very unsophisticated passengers"
Pros: "Nothing at all. Worst experience ever in 34 years of travelling."
Cons: "First answer is selfexplanatory!"
Pros: "The only thing to like about my flight was Spirit was the cost of the flight availability, but in evaluation the cost just isn't worth it"
Cons: "Spirit does not participate in TSA Pre check, which wasn't communicated during my purchase, which caused me to almost miss my flight due to security. You are required to pay for drinks and food, but the quality is sub par and not worth the price. Seats do not recline , which is not great for a flight longer than two hours."
Cons: "there is no free luggage. the luggage fee even more than the ticket."
Pros: "-In general with Spirit you know what you're getting. A cheap flight with only the bare bone necessities to get you where you're going. Generally I'm okay with this approach to save a buck or two but this experience tipped me over the edge of never flying Spirit again."
Cons: "To paint a picture before I get into details, public transit broke down so there was a huge rush of passengers for this flight and others, all leaving around the same time of night as the last round of flights from the airport. -The man at the counter said he could not print our boarding passes because the flight was already boarding as it was 30 minutes before doors closed. -We used the terminal and got an error message saying to see someone at the counter, so we went back and talked to another lady at the Spirit counter. She printed our tickets and was even able to check in my last minute checked bag. -No one at Spirit would walk us through security, which I guess is understandable (though a common courtesy on other airlines) when the security line was so long. -By this time the security line was so long after we had fumbled around for 10 extra minutes with the first man at the Spirit counter that we decided to give up. We later found out that they held the doors for 15 minutes because of the long lines at security, information which no one at Spirit ever volunteered for us, which would've allowed us to get on the plane. -There were 3 or 4 other passengers very upset at the counter employees not willing to print their boarding passes for them who could have also made the plane. -We had to get a flight out the next morning to make our international flight from BWI, so we wanted to go get the checked bag back from Spirit. This was by far the best part of the trip, as the woman at baggage was able to confirm my bag had made it on the flight and would be landing in Philadelphia. -To confirm the bag landed and we would be able to pick it up at 9am when our flight landed the next morning, we called the Spirit office at the Philly airport. The woman said to call back at 12:30-12:45 and she would let us know if she had the bag. This was important for us, because if my bag wasn't there I could just pack another for our international trip and deal with finding the lost bag at a later time. -We called 8 times between 12:30 and 1:30 with no response. We also left several voicemails. -At 5am on our way back to O'Hare we were again unable to get ahold of anyone at Spirit in Philadelphia. While boarding our flight to Philly we finally got a hold of someone who said they would go check the office and let us know within 10 minutes. Obviously too late for me to pack another bag, but at least we could plan over the next several hours. Never got a call back, and only received voice mail after attempting contact again several times as our plane prepared for takeoff. -Landed in Philly and what do you know, the Spirit office is closed for most hours of the day, only operating around their scheduled flights. The info. employee at the airport wished us good luck in a hopeless tone. After 45 minutes of panic calling every Spirit phone number we could find, we finally got someone on the phone to come get my bag out of the locked office."
Pros: "New euipment."
Cons: "Final cost was deceiving."
Pros: "Flight cancelled twice on two separate days. Little compassion by the staff. Waiting room at O'hare was filthy, seats ripped with stuffing hanging outl. The discounted price is not worth the inconsistent and terrible service. Eventually rescheduled with another airline."
Pros: "The crew was nice!"
Cons: "I had NO IDEA bringing the bag as a carryon was an additional $55 each way. I could have bought a ticket on a better airline for cheaper if I had known. Also, no wifi at all (even for sale) and you can't even get a glass of water without paying for it. Then they push the Spirit airlines credit card on you. Tacky. Awful."
Pros: "The trip was good I think they did the Best"
Cons: "I don't like that they allow people with carry-ons larger than the specified sizes. I was careful to follow the guidelines, which were hard to find anyway. I don't like the credit card sales pitch on each flight."
