Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Crew was amazing .. had two seats for myself"
Cons: "Food and entertainment"
Pros: "Flight was delayed 1.7 hours."
Cons: "Bathrooms got very messy."
Pros: "Liked the entertainment system and the fact that none of my luggage was lost on this trip. (Air Canada is a real pain to deal with on lost luggage.) Vegetarian meal was not gourmet, but good."
Cons: "Arrived late so next flight had to be rebooked. They did give us a food ticket though. I would give it an overall good rating (instead of okay) if it had not arrived late."
Pros: "Crew were nice."
Cons: "Food was terrible."
Pros: "We had experienced two schedule changes during the last trip. First, our first outbound leg was canceled , and second, our first inbound flight was late. CA customer service was helpful in both cases. We were given alternatives and accommodations . It's upsetting to know we had to make unfortunate changes before/during our trip, it's comforting to know that CA is there to help."
Cons: "Last minute schedule change"
Pros: "My first flight with Air Canada (TCA) was 64 years ago in 1953 and the airline still feels safe and solid."
Cons: "Food seemed OK but we both suffered severe stomach upset after the flight. From gate to gate in Montreal was many thousand steps. Crazy."
Cons: "Everything was sub-par, the food, entertainment, the crew responsiveness, I asked for two drinks and was told that I could only get one at a time... really? The crew was multilingual, which was great, but also very annoying to have to listen to announcements in 5 different languages. They could use media with standardized messaging and a choice of an appropriate language, but these would make too much sense I guess. This was the tightest coach I've ever flown in, the seat ergonomics was horrible."
Pros: "Modern planes, very comfy (Vancouver to Beijing), nice entertainment options, good food"
Cons: "super cranky flight attendants who looked and talked to us like we are idiots. Not just my feelings; the rest of my travel group of 7 agrees...."
Pros: "I was very pleased with the baggage claim team in Ottawa who took extra steps to ensure that a piece of my carry-on luggage that I forgot on the flight was returned to me safely and packaged with more care than I did for myself!"
Pros: "Quick services"
Cons: "Entertainer system overload twice - without move the key"
Cons: "I can't take the flight and I can't get my money back. It is horrible"
Pros: "Very nice flight"
Pros: "considering all the delays, both in delay in leaving Amsterdam and holding pattern due to thunderstorms in Toronto all went well in a very long day."
Pros: "CAs are very kind."
Cons: "CA skipped me for snack Last years trip to Japan I experienced same they skipped me. So, I try to bring own snack next time."
Pros: "Treated well and basically enjoyable flight, which is saying something on an eleven hour flight."
Cons: "On the return flight we arrived an hour late, and though we were told that they were holding our connecting flight, it left on time, five minutes before we got to the gate."
Cons: "Air Canada is always late to board, take off, or to depart from the aircraft for the most random reasons. Every time I fly with apr Canada I can never depart or arrive in time; it's always a problem."
Pros: "Friendly staff Seats are good enough And quite often ask if you need water"
Cons: "Your small plane vibarates to much. Causing itchy feet and overall discomfort. And your snack choices are not gluten free friendly. I was asked to put carry on under. Didn't mind doing that. But came home to find the front pocket torn of my carry on. Then make it to hard to to find help about it."
Cons: "The time that I need to wait for my connections....I was traveling by myself with my two daughters 6 and 2 years old. And been honest wast pretty hard. Also, nobody told me about the permit that I need to have to go to Canada. I did the process online at the airport. Was fast but pretty stressful."
Cons: "Overall everything was great, but they lost our luggage going to our destination and coming back."
Pros: "Crew was fine, food was fine, entertainment was fine."
Cons: "The flight was delayed by an hour, which prompted the agent in Beijing to change my connection in Vancouver to 7 hours later!!! However, when I arrived in Vancouver, I made it to the gate of my original connection hoping to get on anyway, but because the agent in Beijing changed my connection before I left, my original connection was full and I was stuck in Vancouver airport for 5-6 hours. Complete waste of my time and completely unnecessary."
Cons: "Flight was boarded from the front - back, that is the last row boarded last. It makes some sense that first or business class boards early but the rest is at least inefficient and causes everyone to be standing around in the aisle."
Pros: "crew was friendly. thankfully the flight was not full, so most people (not me) were able to stretch out on multiple seats in the rear. Food was typical; keeps you alive but that is the best we can say."
Cons: "entertainment system offered very limited variety. I think the movies were picked by a 12 year old."
Cons: "There was gum and gunk all over the seatback and tray table in front of me -- the tray table was unusable because it was sticky and couldn't be cleaned off, but was constantly at risk of ruining my clothing if it can in contact with the mess. Disappointed."
Pros: "Air Canada's seats are more comfortable. I didn't have that stiff and unbearable pain and numbness I experienced with other planes over the last 20 years."
Pros: "Good service, nice seat"
Pros: "I was barred from traveling, because Air Canada did not specify that an in-transit visa was necessary for South Africans traveling through their country to the US (where I am a graduate student at the University of Chicago). This blatant discrimination nearly caused me to be arrested and deported from China. It is also utterly unacceptable that Air Canada at no point tried to arrange an alternative flight and told to "just get another direct flight" as if buying plane tickets is in fact like taking the bus."
Cons: "I was barred from traveling, because Air Canada did not specify that an in-transit visa was necessary for South Africans traveling through their country to the US (where I am a graduate student at the University of Chicago). This blatant discrimination nearly caused me to be arrested and deported from China. It is also utterly unacceptable that Air Canada at no point tried to arrange an alternative flight and told to "just get another direct flight" as if buying plane tickets is in fact like taking the bus."
Cons: "Air Canada shares a trait with many other incompetent organizers: everything is fine if nothing goes wrong, but there are no contingency plans in place in case something goes wrong. So, things get more and more delayed. Can't you predict roughly when the plane is going to land (once it is in the air!) and arrange for some gate to be open, so that we don't have to sit on the ground for 45 minutes once it has landed, for example? People who know how to organize are ordinarily capable of doing that. Furthermore, the lack of transparency is really frustrating: we just sit on the tarmac with no indication of how long we're going to be there, and the estimates of the delays are completely wrong when we're given them."
Cons: "Did not like the idea that we had to pay for use of Ipad to watch shows , especially since I didnt have my own."
Pros: "Food was reasonably good, and seat had enough legroom, more than in some airlines I have flown recently."
Cons: "very disorganized. website for checkin was indecipherable. I had to call Air Canada, which charged me for the call (15 centimes per minute) then put me on hold, only to finally learn that I could only check in in person because we were traveling with a pet. --- We paid extra for preferential seating, and when we got to the counter were told that we could not have those seats bcs we were traveling with a pet - the pet was acknowledged on our records and travel documents, yet the company allowed us to sign up for preferential seating, then would not let us access those seats, but our previously reserved window seats were gone and we were assigned aisle and center seats, which were then changed again to other aisle and center seats. --- Half the flights on the departure board, including ours, were delayed, alhto there were no weather problems. Both our plane and the plane in the gate next to where we were waiting had mechanical problems - a coincidence, or a repeated failing?"
Cons: "I paid for a flight on a Lufthansa plane, not an Air Canada plane. There was a two hour delay on the flight that I was not informed about. There was also no organization for boarding the plane, and you had two flights going to the same place boarding at the same time."
Cons: "Terrible attitude to a customer (not me). I asked for a US custom form and it took them an hour and two people to do that."
Pros: "none"
Cons: "bad service and didnot tell customer some critical information"
Cons: "I can't fly in Canada with my US visa... so I am rejected. I think I should get more advises on about that from Kayak. I feel weird for Kayak choose my flight from Vancouver to Toronto and then to Raleigh. But I feel it would be ok if the ticket is financial. But, I was rejected by Air Canada because of that...And I need to pay more than 7000 RMB for another flight( there is $250 change flight fee). I feel terrible honestly! Time and money are what important for me and at last I've got neither of them."
Cons: "Terrible Air Canada ground service in Beijing Airport. Very slow service cause I missed the fly. Very bad attitude when I asked to change fly time."
Pros: "People were nice wHen airline made them available to us. But business lounge, special services, and other services were not available in Toronto when we wanted them."
Cons: "Connecting flight was repeatedly delayed. Then finally cancelled because no crew was provided by the airline. Since this was only announced so late - after midnight - hotel rooms were no longer available we had to try to sleep on the floor in the departure hall. Maybe ok for 20 year old travelers. Not for 75 year olds like me who paid business class fare so as to hopefully avoid some of the rigors of travel. I managed to catch up on some sleep the next day in the business lounge while eating for my rescheduled connection. Still it has taken an additional period to physically recover from this experience."
Cons: "Cannot watch movies in over 10 hours flight, rude service."
Pros: "The bilingual announcements. The movie selections."
Cons: "Most of the staff were rude and made me feel like an inconvenience any time I needed something. Due to delays leaving Heathrow and arriving in Ontario, my 2 1/2 hour layover was reduced to 30 minutes. And because I was transfering to a flight to the US, I had to sprint through 6 security checkpoints. I made it to my flight, but my bag did not. My bag was not delivered to me until 1 am the following day."
Pros: "professional crew members' services...."
Cons: "The food has room to improve...."
Pros: "Some good movies"
Cons: "Ran out of both dinner and breakfast options, for whatever was left."
Pros: "on time boarding & arrivial"
Pros: "I liked the newer plane and cloth seats with mild colors. The chargers were a nice accessory but sacrificed leg movability which leads us to the negatives --->"
Cons: "Wow, I know that business means remaining competitive and as such any and all cost cutting measures are taken along with profit increase measures but............... Wow, talk about being crammed in like a sardine. I'm a male of average height and usually this is a blessing because it feels as though all vehicles, amusement rides and doorways are custom made just for me with the exception of Air Canada planes. I have never in my 300+ number of flights ever felt so confined in any seat. The distance from my knee to the seat in front of me was a claustrophobic finger length at best. Getting up to use the restroom required the other passengers to get up, and I had to stand and walk across their seats to get in/out. Luckily the lady next to me was nice enough and the flight was pleasant overall, but I will certainly think twice before booking another Air Canada flight!!!"
Pros: "Air Canada does it all well. There is a strong sense that every piece o the process has been checked and double checked. Good value for money. Great selection of entertainment."
Cons: "In economy, the seats are small. Sigh. And the breakfast sausage was white. But otherwise, all good."
Pros: "Very good individual entertainer system in seat backs of new boeing dream liner."
Cons: "Called in advance re special veg meal but they didn't have it at mealtime."
Pros: "Entertainment"
Cons: "Small seats, no legroom, mediocre food"
Pros: "Overall, it was a nice flight. The domestic and express flights had no food on offer (for free)..."
Cons: "Beyond the absurd 12 hour layover in Vancouver, upon my arrival in Atlanta, my luggage was lost. I'm still waiting on a call saying it was located."
Pros: "Going it was great. Flew later a night and avoided the lines etc. hated that there was no movie and you had to rent iPads if you wanted to watch a a movie or anything."
Cons: "Coming home was awful. Checked in early and our seats were by the bathroom, which it made impossible to sleep or even rest on a 6 hour flight. The que to go through security was crazy. Again the seat right next to the bathroom was awful. Bumping into by people trying to stand in line, the stewards trying to get through etc. I heard several people say they wouldn't fly Canada Air again."
Pros: "Very good food. Great range of entertainment -- much better than United, which last year gave no selection for the long rides between Beijing and Chicago"
Cons: "Boarding process. We had four flights on Air Canada, and were put in the last boarding group on every one of them, which makes it hard to get overhead space. It seems statistically impossible for them to assign the worst boarding group to the same people every time, but they did it."
Pros: "Two bags plus a carry-on."
Pros: "short time, smooth flight"
Cons: "The food was the worst. The setup was old. The staff was indifferent"
Cons: "I didn’t expect to pay to $30 for a carry on luggage"
Pros: "Nice flight!"
Cons: "Huge line to take off at Newark Airport"
Pros: "the arrival on the other end"
Cons: "on tarmac 1-1/2 hours conflicting info....went from delay due to traffic/weather, to extended flight time due to reroute, to asking 10 people to volunteer to get off or 10 would be chosen to have to get off, 4 people volunteered, was holding my breath to be “picked off” when the 4 people were let back on and we took off an hour late. the flight steward spoke so unreasonably fast you couldn’t understand a word she said and she had an overall bad attitude....very disappointing from United"
Cons: "A lot of turbulence on this flight, often interrupting cabin service."
Pros: "New plane"
Cons: "Poor service in first class. Made me feel like I was bothering her"
Cons: "Ended up at Logan."
Cons: "There was an odor of raw sewage the entire flight. Myself and my son were feeling ill by the time the flight was over."
Pros: "Flight was on time"
Cons: "Boarded on the tarmac when it was cold and windy and in no particular order so it was a long time standing in the cold"
Pros: "The flight was nice crew was nice"
Cons: "The fact it took three calls to get chair to the gate my knees and back is not good.. Some places on a flight the airline took one call few min chair was there this was the longest I had to wait and get someone to call and call"
Pros: "Quick flight, no complaints."
Cons: "This is the fourth time that I've been bumped off of a flight because United overbooked. I'm in the military and each time I was trying to get home to family or fly family to me. I will never fly with United again."
Pros: "The sound system had been down most of the flight. Butter cube was completed melt. Bread was cold in the center."
Cons: "Entertainment system. Rarely does an international flight not equipped with TV screen on back of chair. It's so ancient to have overhead screen"
Pros: "The last minute emergency flight was not terribly priced"
Cons: "I was notified when there was going to be a delay, but not notified when my flight was cancelled due to the airline not having a crew. Really? No crew? Gave my mother a voucher for a motel stay, but failed to notify her that there would be no shuttle that comes to the airport after 10pm. She is not great with technology and was stranded at the airport until her re-scheduled flight 12 hours later"
Pros: "The crew were friendly and courteous. And the food was delicious."
Cons: "My legs hurt during the flght and I couldn't get pills for air sickness, plus a half-an-hour delay. Also, my screen didn't work properly, which needs repair."
Pros: "Prompness"
Cons: "The Stewadess obviously had a horrible cold or laryngitis. It was horrible to hear her on speaker. Also makes us Concerned that we might catch what she had!"
Pros: "Friendly flight attendants"
Cons: "Terrible food. Cramped, uncomfortable seats. No in-flight entertainment, app did not work."
Pros: "I liked that the captain communicated with the passengers about delays and the reasons for the delays over the intercom."
Cons: "I feel that I was treated by the employees at the boarding desk and by the customer service attendants as if I were garbage!!!! I was attempting to purchase an upgrade in my seating to avoid very uncomfortable swelling on my right ankle and other personal reasons. As I inquired with the man at the boarding gate about purchasing the upgrade I was told that there were none available. So I pulled out my tablet with the united airlines app and showed him the image of the empty business class seat that I would like to purchase on the seating map available in the app. He told me that he had no option on his computer screen to sell me the seat. I asked him where could I go or who could I ask to get the seat. This back and forth continued for some time where he kept saying he could not sell me the seat but I would then say, “I understand that, but do you know who can or where I can go to find someone who knows where I can buy an upgrade?” The attendant got VERY VERY upset that I was even ASKING. As if I were asking for some OUTRAGEOUS request!! I asked to speak with the manager several times. He continued by ignoring me and just saying NO! Finally he pointed to some lady beside him. I don't know if she was the manager or not, but she was on the phone and barely gave ten seconds of a glance to the situation. He asked me"Are you gonna go or not?" I could tell that he cared absolutely nothing about me or my request and was extremely dismissive in asking me this. Finally, he dismissively told me to ask the flight attendant. I could tell that this young man would be of no further help AT ALL, so I gave my ticket, went on board and thought to just try and ask a flight attendant. Right before I went to give my ticket to the man who was taking tickets, I heard the boarding gate man walk away mumbling how ANNOYING I was in Chinese. I know this because I SPEAK Chinese. This is HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL!! I continued to go on board hoping the flight attendants might actually have some information. When I asked, who I thought was the flight attendant, about purchasing a seat, it turns out that she was the customer service agent on the flight, she gave no effort to even try to hear what I was communicating to her. I know about communication and as a public speaking instructor, I know how to listen and to speak. She continued to raise her voice and talk over me, although I remained very calm and tried talking to her logically. I tried to communicate to her that I was attempting to purchase one of the empty business class seats that I had seen were empty. I checked the seating of the flight from the united airlines app before I had even boarded the plane. The lady continued to be very rude and uncaring. She talked over me, did not listen, her responses did not make sense, she very loudly kept asking me " CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THAT??" as if I was a child or as if I was confrontational when I absolutely was not. I noticed I had been trying to communicate for a while.wordlimit"
Pros: "The flight attendants were top notch."
Cons: "It was a very nice flight."
Cons: "Flight was late Food on trip was barely average"
Cons: "Stewardesses were over worked and their arritude showed showed it. I didn't blame them ."
Pros: "Caught all my flights on time everything went smooth."
Cons: "Connection flight times were a little close which caused me to rush from different sections of New ark airport. I almost missed my flight home to Providence so if connecting flights could be scheduled with a little more wiggle room that would be great."
Pros: "Staff was nice and accommodating. Plane ride was smooth."
Cons: "DELAYS. I had 4 flights within a weekend all with United and EVERY flight was delayed. The plane also heading to Newark ahead of us was overbooked and some people were pushed onto our plane, not a big deal if all can fit on the plane...but we wouldn't have if it wasn't for the delay causing those flying to Boston to miss their flights. Frustrating and adds an element of concern when faced with delays when the weather is fine. The internet on the plane is also confusing to use...should be clearer. Mistakenly booked my flight before realizing the new carry on policy, so trying to pack everything into a tiny bag to meet requirements was frustrating... definitely don't think I will be booking United again."
Cons: "Basic economy not aloud a carry on bag. Charged for a checked bag. The TV programming was an extra charge as well as the drinks."
Pros: "Friendly service,. On time"
Cons: "Nothing"
Pros: "No delay at all"
Cons: "Again flights never left on time."
Pros: "On time, courteous & caring flight attendant & desk staff. Unable to understand pilot or first officer's PA announcements...language & microphone issues. Airplane is severely cramped so flight was uncomfortable."
Cons: "See above"
Pros: "Good food"
Cons: "Leg room in economy was bad for a international flight"
Pros: "United Provide good service"
Cons: "The flight delayed"
Pros: "Easy boarding"
Cons: "No TV"
Pros: "Very good!"
Cons: "Flight was delayed by over two hours"
Pros: "The flight was to depart at 8:15 but due to delay only leaving at 3;30. Dissapointed as it took two agents to process a replacement flight (first agent offered a connection for a 1.5h flight only)."
Cons: "More attentive staff willing to help and at the very least, be emphatic."
Cons: "The crew was unprofessional and Unprepared"
Cons: "We did not leave on time"
Pros: "Same as before"
Pros: "The size of the aircraft"
Cons: "That the wifi isn't free"
Cons: "That the flight was late because the problen with the air condition and that cost me more money"
Pros: "Flight departed An hour late but caught up time on route. service was cold, rude and lazy. Many passenger brought food trash tray to the station by themselves. Bathroom was gross. Food was salty and I requested water and I was ignored. I finally raised my voice and start asking their names because I would write a complain. Tha started all hassle for me. Long story short, I was demanded to identify if I held Chinese or US passport... I have written a letter to United CEO. I got reply that I would get a reply in 24-48 hours. I'm waiting. My second leg was two hours delay from Chicago to Boston."
Cons: "those FA should be fired, especially the one who demanded to identify my nationality."
Pros: "did not crash"
Cons: "It appeared that flight was not ever scheduled to go to Providence, The plane was too large to land in Providence. United probably sold too many tickets. Arrived at 130 a.m. next day -- not 9 p.m. lie I was supposed to arrive. United offered a $100 e-ticket gift. I do not fly very often. Could use $100 cash or free flight to Providence -- not Boston"
Cons: "The crew members were not very happy and were snappy in their replies. The seating is ridiculously small, you cannot access the carry one baggage under the seat if the person in front of you puts their seat back. The food was better this time than the flight to Beijing, still not great. I also need to add that the original flight from Chicago to Beijing had a 7 hour delay which was ridiculous, especially when traveling so far. No food vouchers were offered and passengers were kept in the dark for long periods of time. The return flight was also slightly delayed. This is not a good reputation for an airlines to have. United will not be my first choice of airlines in the future."
Pros: "We received a free video service for the flight"
Cons: "First of all the flight was booked for a plane which was too large to land in Providence. So either way we were going to have a longer day and extra leg.....which I only paid for ONE plane change. After running to the gate because my first flight was late taking off, this flight was delayed due to engine issues. The agent had us standing in line for 1 1/2 hours while she tried to figure out what was going on. So instead of taking off at 5:40 pm, we took off at 9 pm and still had to catch a bus from Boston to Providence...HORRIBLE Flight = Long Day/Night"
Pros: "Getting home."
Cons: "Long layover"
Pros: "Crew was able to get most of those delayed onto the incomming flight which was also delayed."
Cons: "The fact that united has no spare planes in case of a delay. Not cool."
Pros: "nothing"
Cons: "everything"
Cons: "I need my suitcase asap. There are lots of important stuff inside."
Pros: "Nothing"
Cons: "The gate changed twice. We were directed to a bus to take us to our flight to only be made to get back off the bus because we didn't have a crew. No one would tell us anything. Got back into the airport and then 30 minutes later got put back on the bus. The plane was disgusting, smelled like urine. The air conditioning didn't work. Terrible."
