Cons: "My husband and I were flying to Italy, on the first leg of our flight neither of our screens worked so we had six hours with no entertainment. They gave us a card to make it up to us but (wisely) don't tell you what it is for. It turned out to be for 10% off your next flight if you book it through their website within a year. Useless. On our return flight we were delayed on the tarmac for over an hour with no air conditioning, they originally said they were waiting for a signature but then said that there was something wrong with the engines that help us take off, then the cabin filled with a fuel smell, then they said they had brought the wrong item for the repair and we were waiting for the correct one. When we finally took off my husband's screen didn't work yet again and this was a 9 hour flight. The flight attendant said that some of the screens hadn't worked for a while ( probably cheaper to hand out useless discounts than to fix them.). We received another 10% off card, which we cannot combine or transfer, again useless. We missed our connection because of the delay, they booked us on another flight but because they didn't tell us that we had to pick up our luggage or where (it was on a different carousel than the rest of the luggage from our flight) and that we had to go through customs we (and many others) missed that flight too. We finally got a flight out the next morning and they put us up at a hotel. We both had to miss another day of work and it was quite an ordeal. My husband's screen worked for almost all of that last flight before it seized up. We didn't bother to report it that time since another 10% off coupon wasn't going to do us any good. Overall it is concerning that Air Canada doesn't seem to be maintaining their planes in optimal condition and that their idea of compensation involves them making even more money from me. Never again."

Cons: "all my food were not covered when hostess delivered the tray, salad was missing, apparently it fell into the trolley while she pulled the tray out. and then i couldn't eat it because it was frozen. food quality was just really bad; whenever the crew passed by they were speaking really loud like to the other side of the valley, probably not necessary; the seat itself has a fancy look but the cushion is not comfortable at all, couldn't really rest one's head on it as it would just keep sliding sidewards . another thing that the airline can't really help- baby crying & screaming all the time and playing toys with music, couldn't get any sleep at all... perhaps a "kids zone" like trains have would be good for planes.. ?"

Cons: "Late again, in the last 4 flights over the last 5-6 weeks I was on time once. Two of the last 3 flights you lost my luggage and both times I was told I would have it late in the day or early evening. 3 weeks ago I received it 36 hours later and yesterday I got it the next morning. 3 weeks ago the overhead lights did not work in almost the entire plan. Yesterday, my movie kept cutting out and the guy next to me and a few others too. I got so frustrated that I shut it off."

Hotel sent me back to airport because i didn't have voucher which AIr Canada guys said they can't make one? Everything didn't make sense. And they told me not to come again. They took like... whole day to book another flight. And i had hard time understanding what they were saying."

Cons: "The flight was delayed for hours but not technically cancelled, which the ground crew blamed upon the flight crew and vice versa. The failure to cancel caused us to be unable to rebook, and subsequent avoidable delays arising from Air Canada's ineptitude caused us to be two,days late for arrival. The problem was solvable with some simple rebooking, but the ground,crew failed to assist, then the flight crew, when we finally left five hours late, was Impersonable, unhelpful, uninformed, and utterly unprepared. It was a terrible, second rate, poor quality experience and I would not recommend Air Canada to anyone. Your airline needs serious training in Professionalism and responsiveness."

I reached the airport and on being checked at the counter, I was told that I cannot board because I don't have a Canadian visa. It was shocking to learn that I needed visa for a 1.5 hour layover. The website should give a prompt or should share the requirements. And all my ticket money got wasted."

Our hassles were compensated with meager meal vouchers given too late, There was no pre-boarding on our flight (just one big cattle call) which made boarding with child and gear extra awkward,"

I kept getting emails of a change in schedule, but no reason was given by personnel at the gate. This was really a bad situation for me as I was meeting my daughter in Toronto who was flying alone with her infant son and she needed my help."

The staff seemed very new and was unable to get us out of the airport in a timely fashion which caused a few people to miss their international connecting flights."

Pros: "My mother missed her flight from Shanghai international Pu airport to Harare yesterday due to language barrier. And we requested for her to be put on the next flight. Only to be told with Ethopian Airline to pay $US1850 for a one way flight which was more expensive than itinial flight. She slept at the airport weeping not knowing who and how to contact anyone in a foreign country and noone cared. Instead we were told to pay the 1850 or else she would be stuck for more days at the airport"

Cons: "Only at nanging airport they dont’t have Check through baggage all the passenger have to pass immigration and custom to get baggage and recheck in over ticket counter again they informed that they don’t have transit hall at this airport so for transit destination try not to use nanging airport"

Cons: "* Failure at communication: At check-in we were told that they cannot route the luggage to the final destination (Shanghai). We will have to fetch the luggage from the luggage belt and check it in again at Chengdu airport from scratch. Also it was not possible to get the boarding pass for this flight online and select seats. This was brand new information for us. Nor China Southern, nor KLM nor Kayak did inform us about this at anytime. This never happened to us and if we knew in advance we would not have booked this connection (one in Amsterdam and one in Chengdu). Passengers need to be informed about this! Some people mentioned this is Chinese state policy, still not sure about this though. * Horrible transfer experience: In summary we were on ourselves, information was absent or just plain wrong by the ground staff at Chengdu airport. Which resultet in us queuing in 3 different lanes. Even in the first lane we queued, following official signs for transfer, the first staff told us we can queue here but then the lady at the counter (after 30min queueing) told us to go somewhere else instead. We had to wait in the rain to take a shuttle bus to another terminal. There we then queued at a China Southern counter, but it turned out to be incompatible with our ticket (booked with China Southern but operated by China Eastern - not communicated to us). Hence we queued yet again at a China Eastern counter which was eventually the correct one. Common to all this was the negative attitude of all staff which basically didn't care at all and were just incompetent. Note that this was not a language issue, as one of us is fluent in Chinese. * Once boarded the plane, which was 25% full, we were even disallowed to change seats due to "weight balance issue" (which seems to be just a joke given the weight of the airplane itself...). Note that the check-in agent explicitely told that because the plane is half-full we can just freely select an empty seat - yet another false information. * Conclusion: 1. Transparent information is they key for making a booking decision. 2. Do not fly via Chengdu airport. This will just ruin your trip. This airport is not ready to serve as international transfer spot."

Pros: "Courteous and helpful crew. China Eastern served QingDao (Tsingtao) beer, quite good, German recipe from the 19th century."
Cons: "The menu was ok but I’ve had better on an Intnl flight. The plane seemed to be short a bathroom, only 3 in the economy cabin. The flight was not close to full but one bathroom wasn’t kept clean."

I had to buy a whole new ticket (that was much more expensive then the one I already had) on top of the one I already purchased and now have to attempt to get refunded"

Pros: "China Eastern flight staff are always great, attentive and super firendly. The business class is treated very well and the equipment is new."
Cons: "The gste agents are terrible, even unfriendly. They never make announcements prior to boarding and it is a comolete fiasco every time. And rarely use the sky prioroty gate for business class boarding first. This time the special bus for business class was not available and we had to wait while the coach class was boarded first...stood for 10 minutes at the plane stairs im the eain while coach boarded first...very bad fail to handle the business class well at all. Im beginning to tire of this."

Cons: "I mistakenly could not obtain my boarding pass in time, and even though the security crew at the gate let me through check in with proof of my itinerary they did not let me board because I did not have my boarding pass. I ran as fast as I could to the transfer gate check in, with 15 minutes till departure."

Pros: "I do not think the check in staff could have been any more useless, they wanted us to collect our luggage at every transfer, the plane was cramped, obviously made for people a lot shorter than my 6 ft, majority of the food was not edible for western people. I will not be using them again."

There was a whole group of us that were hauled off to a hotel for the night which had the worst heat everrrr. It was freezing! We slept in several layers of clothes. It was their fault we missed our connections. Our flight coming home got delayed again. Crew is rude and rarely even smile. Their ability to help you or explain things is poor. The plane is beautiful and actually comfortable though and they do feed you. The food was not bad."

Cons: "I flew business class and had the whole row to myself. The seats were hard and uncomfortable (A330) and the footrest on both seats didn't work. The crew slept in the empty seats on the next aisle which isn't a problem to me until they kept opeing up the overhead compartments all night long. They were also walking up and down the aisle very heavy all night as well. My seat was in the last row before main cabin galley and they were loud all night too. I heard almost every bang, tray drop,door close,and word they were saying. Thank goodness for earplugs."

Cons: "Rude staff in spite of paying almost close to Cathay Pacific, journey date was forcefully changed just days before traveling with a layover time of 16hours instead of the original plan of 3 hours so was forced to stay overnight at a shitty hotel provided by China Eastern, Check in baggage not handled at Kunming by staff, airport hotel not inside airport, but 20mins away in some dirty part of Kunming, not even in the city. Taxi from airport to and from hotel had no space for checkin baggage and they had to be kept on our laps. No food provided at hotel. Very discomforting experience overall."

For boarding, crew didn't make separate waiting line for business class passengers from economic class passengers. It made me wait in the economic class passenger waiting line , it made me wait longer than other airlines."

They also offer TV from different lands and video games and selection of languages to hear them in. Great food - Even economy passengers get great free food during the trip. For a trip as long as going from Washington DC to BeiJing, they give you two dinners. Roominess - The seats are as cramped as any airline. However, the flight attendants don't give you are trouble when you want to get up and walk around and stay standing and talking with people of a long time. It has two isles so it feels pretty roomy to get up and walk around. Friendly staff- They make american flight staffs look very rude."

Due to the limitation on the carry-on luggage, I had to place my camera batteries and other stuffs to the check-in luggage at the check in counter in Washington DC. The Chinese custom in Beijing took them all. They are normally just take the battery charger, but not the camera batteries. These are expensive items and not conviniece at all to customer."

The only information was for us to get another flight in the morning or to just wait for 10hours or a few days. What kind of customer service is that! Food was terrible!!!!!!"
