Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Cons: "More arm space and leg room for cabin"
Cons: "The check in process for Delta was a chaotic mess. There was no one to assist passengers, lines were crazy long. I overheard so many people complaining about missing flights and they could not get any help. I also think the amount Delta charges for luggage was insane."

Cons: "Get our bags to us in the morning"
Cons: "Flight wasn't full. I could have been seated somewhere else since passenger next to me was quite large and invading my personal space"
Cons: "No hubo comida suficiente"
Cons: "Bathroom floors could be better."
Cons: "You shouldn't schedule a flight for a plane that is due to have scheduled maintenance. It's not like this should come as a surprise to you. Also, there was at least one over-served passenger on board who became loud and obnoxious, shouting obscenities."
Pros: "crew found me an outlet for laptop"
Pros: "I have flown with Delta for a number of trips now. I seem to receive middle seat allocations even with the freqent flyers partnership with Virgin Velosity program shared."
Cons: "My seat allocation."
Pros: "The TV"
Pros: "best meal ive had in so long service was great the captain anniuncements were clear and detailed"
Cons: "The three hour delay, the not having a pilot which delayed us even more, and then reduced service during the flight because they rushed us."
Pros: "Comfy seats, quick service."
Cons: "If you are in Zone 3 or 4 you pretty much have to check in your bag back there is no more room. Which I don’t understand and is highly incovienent."
Pros: "Free Tillamook snacks that were filling, upgraded snacks"
Cons: "Most of the crew. They were literally no smiles except one nice lady. Just blank stares and quick handing off, not expecting a smile, but most of the crew was cold for idk what reason (except one nice lady)"
Pros: "We boarded close to on time, no hassles. Allowed my husband and me (retired military) to board early, thank you."
Cons: "LAX security is awful. We never left the airport (arrived LAX from Sydney AU) yet were forced thru security again. Had to remove shoes, was scanned and "frisked" by TSA to get to Denver. To go to Australia, Denver TSA waived the removal of shoes, skipped the scan for the metal detector and no one touched me, ditto for LAX on the trip to Sydney. Where's the uniformity or standards for TSA?? Why did I have to be subjected to this garbage on the way home?? This is why I despise flying. It makes no sense to me. This ruined what was a great vacation."
Pros: "Everything clicked from the start"
Cons: "This flight always arrived 25-30 minutes early...why cant delta post the correct arrival times?? My first class priority boxes did not come off first but near last and wet!? Bad handling but at least within the 20 minutes!"
Cons: "It was a late flight and didn't see the flight crew much at all"
Pros: "The flight was nearly full, but I lucked out. One person in my row did not show up, so myself and the other lady in my row had the benefit of having an open seat in between us. The crew was cheerful and accommodating. They did the normal beverage service, but also brought complimentary water and coffee 3x during the rest of the flight. This was greatly appreciated, especially after 5 days of drinking and partying. My buddies and I spent two and a half days in Las Vegas for a bachelor party followed by two days in the LA area for a wedding (yes we did it Hangover style) :) Thank you Delta!"
Cons: "My only complaint was that the flight was delayed out of LAX by about 30 minutes due to the flight in-bound being delayed. However, the captain made up most of this time in the air so it ended up being a non-issue."
Pros: "I've been beaten down to expect a bus ride on flights. However, Delta surprised me. The crew members we're kind, and did the best they could to keep us comfortable."
Pros: "There was a medical emergency and the crew responded quickly and asked for onboard medical personnels. Wi-Fi was fast."
Cons: "Lack of snacks."
Pros: "I liked the fact that were were able to watch movies complementary, staff was very kind and looked good and for the most part the air craft was spacious than United Airlines"
Cons: "I disliked the fact that their weren’t any charging station, I wasn’t able to to charge my telephone device previously but I thought I would be okay sonce air crafts that I have boarded have out lets to charge devices, was an inconviencesince I wasn’t anle to contact family. Also there was complementary movies to watch but there werent any head phones that were given, united aire lines provided us with head phones for entertainment."
Pros: "Once inside the plane every thing was excellent. Very confortable. Great costumer service."
Cons: "They changed the gate it was unclear and hard to find someone to tell us where to go. Once we found someone the lady yelling at everyone where to go was very rude and rushed. Once we found the second gate the crew at the desk was very nice and helpful."
Pros: "The attendant was most helpful. Because the flight was not full, she allowed us to sit in the exit row, window and aisle, with no one between. I'm a tall person, so the extra leg room was deeply appreciated. I give her and the airline high marks."
Pros: "The snacks were decent on the flight. Everything else was a disappointment."
Cons: "Unexpected delay for take off after being told the flight was going to be on time. They couldn’t give us a reason or an eta on take off while waiting at the gate which affected my ride situation once I landed in Seattle."
Cons: "it stink inside the plane, the seats in front of us were dirty and smelled bad!"
Pros: "Outlets to charge your phone and watch movies."
Cons: "It wasnt specified which terminal to go to Aeromexico or delta. Going both ways. I had to pay a 40 dollar taxi to get me to the correct terminal .5 a mile away. And leaving in the early morning it was too dark and they convinced us it was unsafe and a 35 min walk. It’s def would be that long of a walk in Mexico since we had no idea where we were going."
Pros: "The flight was on time."
Cons: "This was an almost 6 hour long flight, LAX to OGG. The aircraft was older and for a 6 hour flight, they really should use a bigger and newer aircraft. The entertainment systems on the back of the seat worked sporadically and the PA system was too loud and every time the PA system was used while we had our headsets on, it was excruciating We had no warning in order to remove our headsets before it blasted into our ears. We were amazed that after paying a considerable sum for our tickets and being in the air for 6 hours, there was limited meal service and we were required to purchase a sandwich in order to eat. I fly Delta frequently and this was by far the worse flight I can remember."
Pros: "Fast and comfortable"
Cons: "No tv but understanding"
Pros: "Requested a special meal over the phone when I checked in i.e. 24 hours before talk off, customer support confirmed my request but the crew told me that they had not received anything as such....crew didn't even bothered to offer any alternative. I was fine, didn't have any reservations but my wife and kid went starving all the way remember it was a 15 hour flight"
Pros: "The flight was quick and quiet with a kind crew and captain that had a great smile."
Cons: "I didn't like the food."
Pros: "The seats were comfortable. Loved that we all had our own TV's with free movies available. And loved that we were all served free food."
Cons: "No complaints."
Pros: "For the first time in a ling time I felt if I dropped something I didn't have to kiss it goodbye. My knees and back didn't hurt by the end of the fight. I know longer felt like a sardines in a tin."
Pros: "Seating was nice...comfortable. Lighting was good, captain wasn't too chatty :)"
Cons: "This flight attendant was just terrible. Wish I could remember her name for this review... She had about half of the First Class cabin offended as soon as meals started getting served - I didn't see ANYONE around me that got what they asked for, and then when people stated the issue, she didn't respond very well. I tried to take things in stride (first world problems?) but it is a bummer to pay extra for the first class treatment and then to not have that great experience, especially on back to back 5ish hour flights."
Pros: "Sitting in the exit row (52H) gave me lots of space and the temperature was great."
Cons: "My original flt KE018 on 03Apr17 was a different story; had adequate space, but the temperature was warm making it uncomfortable to sleep during the 13 hour flight. Unfortunately, the A-380 does not have manual overhead air vents."
Pros: "Very good."
Cons: "Snack food not health.Cold and I lost my glasses in the boarding lounge and found the lost and found difficult to fill in as I didn't know area code. It took me a while to get I have not had a reply"
"No food was offered during a 5 hour flight. Only a snack, which was not served at my row."
"Horrible airline: delays and cancellations"
Pros: "Fast, easy, got decent seats and didn’t have to sit next to anyone"
Pros: "The entertainment choice on AA and the in flight wifi are super! The flight attendants were impeccable."
Cons: "My flight was supposed to be on May 26 but I got bumped! The counter at Lax was completely UNDERSTAFFED! At one time the three customer service representatives were stuck with ‘difficult cases’ for over 20 minutes - the line did not move AT ALL! With roughly 75 passengers in line this is unacceptable. I sprang into action and demanded quicker service from the supervisor Seth telling him that people are going to miss their flights. He showed no people skills and decided to be confrontative, inquiring since when I was in line and telling me that I should have come earlier; he did admit that he was understaffed that day but could not do anything about it. After having waiting in line for 1 hour it took the representative too long to check out my Covid Test done by the company AA partnered with - and because of a missing ‘entry registration’ and the use of my married name on the Covid Test instead of my maiden name on my passport ( I had documentation to prove the validity of both names) I stood no chance to rectify any of it as the cut off time for the flight had approached. Instead I was issued a ticket for the next day. No smile, no empathy - I really felt treated like cattle...When I came to the same counter the next day the wait to see a customer service representative was 10 minutes!!!! Which proves my point that they were completely understaffed on May 26! And I had to get a hotel at LAX! On the flight on the 27 May I found the breakfast on board to be very disappointing: no bread, no deli meat and no cheese but yoghurt instead."
Cons: "Not charging me 100 dollars For a luggage that was 56 pounds"
Pros: "Everything as great"
Cons: "The white woman who checked my ticket at the gate was So rude!"
Pros: "Clean and comfortable"
Pros: "Nothing special good or bad"
Cons: "My seat did not recline properly and had to sit upright throughout the flight, so was less comfortable."
Pros: "The crew and boarding process was excellent."
Cons: "Social distancing with the seating arrangements was lacking."
Pros: "I like that I paid for a first class seat with no first class service."
Cons: "Suspended food is a rip off, I flew this same leg a month and a half ago got food, what changed, NOTHING...I have flown AA for 20plus years. I never got credit for that flight either. I am aware safety first but what does it really have to do with QUALITY of the Airline. Still love yah tho."
Cons: "The boarding announcement speaker was broken, so the flight attendants needed to yell out."
Pros: "That we got there on time. And landed safely."
Cons: "Honestly I have no complaints but they could at least serve something for a 6 hour flight"
Cons: "Several people got on the flight with no face mask on. The flight was completely packed, there was no distancing at all. The boarding process required me to walk past everyone as my chair was in the back and I was last group to board (unlike other airlines that have switched to back to front boarding to reduce people coming in contact with each other) As I walked down the PACKED plane mot people had masks on incorrectly (hanging off one ear, down around their chin, nose out, etc.) some people had no mask at all and the flight attendants did nothing. It seems like they were doing nothing to keep passengers safe from COVID-19 spread. Compared to Delta, American Airlines was terrifying to fly, I find not feel safe at all."
Cons: "No food"
Pros: "Great crew, clean plane."
Cons: "Wish we had beverage service back soon."
Pros: "Cause me to miss my connecting flight from Dallas to Mobile"
Cons: "Had the aircraft fueled before boarding the flight"
Cons: "There was no entertainment in first class for a cross country flight"
Pros: "Great Crew on the Second Leg from DFW to SPI"
Cons: "In flight entertainment was broken"
Pros: "Amazingly helpful and friendly crew."
Cons: "Affordable fares equates to small space."
Pros: "Great staff."
Cons: "I hate that American Airlines doesn’t sign seats together even when there are spots available."
Cons: "Having to go to a different line to pay for a heavy bag"
Pros: "Comfortable seats with plenty of legroom."
Cons: "The counter agent charged us for one bag when it should have been free. According to her, there was nothing she could do as that's what the computer stated. She did mention we have a receipt so we can ask for a refund. Why was she even there?? Could have done the same with a kiosk."
Cons: "4 hour delay for no reason! I’m never flying with American Airlines again!"
Pros: "The connecting BA flight from Houston to LHR was an old 747 and my broken window blind didn’t go down. The worst part was I paid for a bulkhead seat and once we got on the plane it turned out the configuration was different and the seat was not bulkhead."
Cons: "Accurate configuration. A more modern plane."
Pros: "Great crew"
Cons: "We experienced flight delays, lots of turbulence, and my knees were pressed up against the seat in front of me the whole duration of the flight. They also overbooked the flight, so some people had to take a flight the following day."
Pros: "Very good value for money. Excellent Business class with all the expected amenities. Friendly crew. Good (for airline norms) food. Plenty of entertainment options."
Pros: "Staff was absolutely awesome."
Cons: "The sound on my TV was not working properly so I did not get to watch or listen to anything during the whole flight."
Pros: "Good first. Class seat"
Cons: "Lotsa turbulence, very hard to sleep"
Pros: "loved the free movies on board, also on time departure and before time arrival makes me feel the best."
Pros: "Even the food was decent (granted, I flew in 1st,so at least there was food)."
Cons: "Power outlet cover was busted. But it worked."
Pros: "The staff was fantastic"
Cons: "Well my flight got delayed four separate times. I was stuck in LAX for 3 hours. So much that booked another flight with another airline for the following morning. I had to book a hotel nearby LAX just so I could somewhere to sleep for the night. My luggage made it to Chicago safely, but I didn’t at least not with American Airlines. It took them an hour to tell us that they reassigned the pilot to another flight, not only that when it was delayed the first initial time (40 minute delay) about ten minutes before we were supposed to board they tell us that the flight attendant crew is going to take 30 minutes to get to the gate. Not only but those poor airline service staff were completely unaware of all these changes! They had to find out from the passengers what was going on. Honestly I will never fly with American Airlines ever again!!!"
Pros: "I took two connecting flights on American Airlines between Los Angeles and Lisbon period on the website American claims to have charging and or electrical ports in every row. There were none on either flight. To make matters worse, when my tablet and phone batteries both died before the end of the first flight, there was no inflight entertainment, other than 1 ridiculous thing available, on either flight. American has switched to BYOD for entertainment, but forgot to provide a way to charge our own devices. Incredibly stupid."
Cons: "On top of that, one of the flight attendants on the Philadelphia to Lisbon run was a hella snarky guy with a bad attitude all the way through. I would be surprised if I am the first person to complain about him."
Pros: "Not much"
Cons: "The carrier was supposed to be Alaska it turned out to be American Airlines and with that comes the confusion checking in with the wrong confirmation number. On a separate note, this was a bundled itinerary and the Thrifty Car shuttle was so infrequent and slow to the terminal I nearly missed my flight... I am not sure if I would bundle my travel plans again..,,also Thrifty car rental was short on cars in Liz Angeles on arrival"
Pros: "Reasonably comfortable seat. Nice crew"
Cons: "I had a screen with excellent selections but the audio didn’t work. They reset it twice but nothing. Started watching a movie with CC but 40 min in it ‘died’."
Cons: "American Airlines won't let you buy emergency row exit seats (or bulk head) because the 'code share' prevents them from advance seat sales. I was told I could do it at check in in Los Angeles. But those seats were sold out long before we even got to LA! I contacted American Airlines Customer Relations about 1 month prior to my flight. I completed their online form detailing the problem and asked if there is any way I could buy extra leg room seats. But they never even bothered to respond. I got the automated email acknowledging receipt of my complaint and assuring me I would be contacted soon. NOT!!"
Cons: "It wasn't Cathy Pacific operation."
Cons: "served snacks without drinks or at least water"
Pros: "Not a single part has a positive remark"
Cons: "Well - this partner of westjet was terrible. The amount of re direction to get to the final terminal was absurd .. that's just my venting My real problem is that then "crew" or team that represent s the American Airlines / compass part was just useless. A hand full of people - myself included didn't get a chance to board the plane as they didn't make any announcements. Beyond disappointing. When you check in they take your cell phone "in case " well no call no txt no nothing. It was a joke the level of service No apologies or anything just a group of any tired patrons getting the worst customer experience. I'll never EVER book a flight that has anything to do with American Airlines or its partners"
Pros: "British Airway, as their partner, made everything perfect."
Cons: "Iberia never picks up the phone. American Airlines always says 'No' first, & sticks with their 'No' for about an hour before being willing to think of work 'round solutions. AA online check-in didn't work, There's always a 45+ minute wait by phone to get AA to answer.. Then the customer service line of Airlines @ LAX had 70+ people needing help, but only one person working. So it was an hour long wait, only to be told 'No' you can't fly. Yet once I walked over to British Airways, they found a way to get me to my destination. Airlines just does not have enough employees and doesn't care."
Pros: "The AC was set at the right temperature, not too cold, not too hot, just perfect! We got to the destination sooner than expected!"
Cons: "Pay to seat next to my husband, our seats were separate before check-in. Not happy about this."
Pros: "Flight crew was excellent."
Cons: "We booked flights through British Airways but flew American Airlines. The check in process was a stressful mess: we were forced to stand in long customer service lines both on our first flight from LAX to Chicago and again during our very short layover in Chicago to Dublin to ensure that our bags were checked all the way to our final destination. Very stressful, and it didn't help that the gate crew was extremely rude and unprofessional. It is very inconvenient that we could not choose our seats beforehand."
Cons: "Couldn't check in on line. Flight was delayed. Boarding was hectic and disorganized. Everybody ran for the gate. Crew was prompt and not friendly. Upon arriving they announced that they did not have the Hawai'i agricultural forms, so we would have to wait until the "agent" cam on the plane with the forms, fill out the forms, and then disembark. The crew was not organized, so it took about 10-15 minutes to get off after we arrived in the gate (late) because they could not get people sit down and fill out the forms. Chaotic. I plan NOT to fly American again. Ever."
Pros: "I like the comfortable chairs and screen touch screen in the seat in front of me"
Pros: "Really?! After all these years, you can't manage the boarding process or even attempt to create and/or keep ques? This part I have to say is not rocket science. Also, if you are going to offer carry-on baggage, then make sure you can honor it!No one took charge Or do we get to charge you $60 for the luxury of being able to check our bags to their final destination?"
Cons: "No one took charge. Those that refused to check bags when told they must due to no more overhead bin storage, all had room to put their carry-on in the overhead storage with room to spare."
Pros: "The "very" new 777-200 was very comfortable, well-laid out. I usually skip or leave half of the in-flight food served, but this rates as one of the best meals, I've had in an airplane outside of business class. The in-flight entertainment/information service was decent, but perhaps because the plane was still in new condition."
Cons: "On this entire business trip, I booked with other companies, but ended up 5 flights operated by American Airlines. One cancellation, 4 delayed, 3 late arrivals. The last one was the most annoying. I will be avoiding AA in the future. The domestic crews are generally brusque and miserable. The international flight crews were more accommodating and pleasant, but most of them also seemed annoyed at passenger presence. Also, having to pay for a preferred seat on a half-empty airplane is simply unfair. By 24hrs before the flight, AA must have known there were plenty of empty seats."
"Boarding was so chaotic. Seats are way too small. When deboarding the plane, no one gave instructions and it was more chaotic than boarding. Pretty disappointed in the lack of diversity in the crew as well."
Pros: "Worst flight ever! 7 hour delay, 1 hr, 2 hr, 3 hr etc Absolutely awful! Plane broke down and they didn’t have another! Awful Father’s Day!! Never fly United!! And very rude customer service!"
Cons: "Instead of giving a $20 meal voucher they should have given flight vouchers!! We will not fly United again!!"
Pros: "Overall flight was satisfactory experience."
Cons: "Movie selection for entertainment"
Cons: "The original seats we purchased was a different plane. Only two in the row This plan was very crowded and no wiggle room to change seats"
Pros: "Crew was fantastic!! Great job."
Pros: "The captain spoke clearly and have good information."
Cons: "The flight was fully packed during this Covid time. There was zero social distancing in place."
Pros: "The crew was nice"
Cons: "Leave the middle seats open"
Pros: "United Airlines is putting customers and employees at risk. It is an insane and absurd as it is disgraceful. During boarding you will see painted arrows on the ground urging you to be "6 feet apart" from fellow travellers. You will then enter a the plane and be 6 inches apart as the plane will be FULL. Fly Delta where they block off middle seats and social distance. United CEO Scott Kirby does not care about customers or employees. The absurdity of the juxtaposition between the "6 feet" signs in the boarding area and the COMPLETE ABSENCE of distancing on board tells you everything you need to know about United."
Cons: "Practice social distancing on the plane. There's a pandemic. This is the NUMBER ONE thing you should be doing to assure safety of passengers and crew."
Cons: "Nothing. Great shirt flight"
Cons: "A computer problem caused us to sit on the tarmac for 3 hours. Good times."
Pros: "Very narrow seat"
Pros: "The flight was great. No complains to the crew."
Cons: "The drop-off bags at LAX is a mess and you have to stand in two separate lines to drop off your bag. First you have to print the tag and then go to another long line be with 2 employees only to drop it of instead of having one place to print and drop off at the same time. Poor system. Moreover while there was plenty of time my bag did not make it on the same flight. It will arrive on the next flight hopefully. I had to wait in another line for 30 minutes to arrange the delivery and verify all my information. I truly believe that to make a trip great both arms - the airport and the flight experience should be perfect. Unfortunately the ground experience does not allow me to give a higher rating."
Pros: "Speedy departure and arrival early"
Cons: "There were a few bumps. Would be nice to use points for seat upgrades"
Cons: "I had to check my bag at the desk which I had not anticipated. When I checked in at the kiosk I was told I could only take a personal item - no carry-in size bag - because of my ticket classification. Very disappointed to have to spend $30 I did not plan on."
Cons: "We sat on the plane for 2 hours at the gate to find out that the dispatcher did not have paperwork for the flight and hence we could not leave yet. We were not told of all of the issues and were kept sitting on the plane idle for 2 hours before we had to deplane and wait even more."
Pros: "The airline used senior crew that was excellent. The entertainment was very good, but could use more bingeworthy titles. Great carry on room."
Cons: "Food and snack offerings were paltry and and standard. More for a domestic flight. No warm snacks nor extra snacks, just leftovers. So bring your own. There should be a bit more pitch for economy. Economy plus was just equal to what is economy on other ultra long flights. No amenity kit and only gave tiny blankets. Bathroom only had soap so bring lotions and other products."
Cons: "After we board the plane, we were forced to sit on the tarmac at LAX for 2 hours. I missed the Ferry to Provincetown and it cost me an extra night of hotel in Boston. The food choices were very limited, and the seats are just not comfortable at all!"
Cons: "Would not allow upgrade even thought seats available because my economy ticket was not appropriate for upgrade. Seems that if all those who could upgrade hf upgraded had done so, why not allow the upgrade. Would have been more money for airlines and I would have enjoyed the trip more."
Pros: "The 787. Great plane. Great ride."
Cons: "Crew members on all 37 United flights that I have taken in the past 19 months have been rude, unpleasant and grumpy. They do not accommodate modern methods of making children comfortable in seats, such as the use of jetkids and jetbox accessories. I have experienced lies (yes, I’ll be back with more water! Sure, I’ll check for some eye wash for your wife.), misleading (embellishing rules, enforcing rules that do not exist) and overall terrible behavior. With the exception of a few ground crew members who’ve shone through, my interactions with United staff have not been good."
Pros: "Spacious enough (for economy), decent food, no delays in boarding or in schedule"
Cons: "I was surprised at the rudeness of the female staff towards people who didn't understand her the first time she said something. Obvious looks of anger and condescending tones towards those people spoke to poor customer service; however, one male staff was really friendly and fluent in Japanese. Very helpful"
Cons: "One crew is rude while I was ordering food while she is delivering the beverage after the order time. She simply told me they don't have what I want to order and leave. After 5 mins, I pushed the service button and nobody responded. After half hour, I ordered the food from another crew passed by. After I landed, they suppose to return my stroller set at the airplane gate. But they said it is not there, ask us to wait at the airport gate. We walked outside and they broadcasted again, I didn't hear very clearly but followed most parents to walk out. We wait at the baggage claim for almost 1 hour and finally, the baggage crew came back to the gate and found our stroller."
Pros: "The flight crew was awesome! So accommodating and nice. They offered us to change seats since there were so many empty ones. I was able to have a whole row to myself."
Cons: "I had to print out my own labels for my bags. No one told me this . Mind you, I was already in line! I had to go print label. Get in line again. Attendant said I need to put the label on myself. And for me to step aside. I was not gonna get out of line again. No one was there to let customers know of this labeling. People were confused! Then I paid $25 online for my luggage. Then my luggage was over 50 pounds. I was charged $100. So I paid $125 for my luggage. Lax TSA Employees are rude and mean. Yelling do this and do that. Like we prisoners. I will never fly United again. I will let everyone know of my experience. Terrible customer service. Then your screens don't work on your airplane. Cannot watch movies. Therefore your plane is not up to par. But I paid up to $700! Never again. Good luck United."
Cons: "My seat was changed without my knowledge or consent and no one was able to tell me why or fix it. I spoke with a united customer service supervisor and have yet to hear from anyome about it."
Pros: "I'm sure this flight would have been fine if it wasn't missed due to previous maintenance delays on my first flight causing a catastrophic snowball to my entire trip."
Pros: "We had arrived a little ahead of schedule"
Cons: "For an almost 6 hour flight, they chose a very small plane. Probably because they didn't sell enough seats on the flight so they downsized. Anyway, lots of people who boarded towards the end weren't able to store any carryon luggage. And as I listened to the crew talk to them, they weren't very nice about it. Sounded as if they were saying it's the passengers fault. We are allowed 1 carryon and 1 personal bag. For any flight that is longer than 3 hours, I believe the airlines should at least allow passengers to have 1 free check in. Then maybe we wouldn't be trying to carry everything on with us. Our flight to Hawaii wasn't very comfortable either. We had purchased economy plus but it didn't seem all that comfortable. Maybe because it was a smaller plane. I think it was a 737, not really sure but it had 3 seats on each side with no middle row. Food is for purchase! Outrageous."
Pros: "Staff was pleasant, decent movies overall."
Cons: "I can't eat mushrooms. Both meals had mushrooms (3 out of 4 entrees) and it wasn't always obvious which ones. Additionally, the second meal with seafood or pasta, the pasta obviously had mushrooms so I chose seafood, even though I don't like most seafood. Mushrooms all mixed in with the seafood, so I had to pick them all out. Also 2 of the accompanying sides had mushrooms. Do they have a mushroom fetish like Cheesecake Factory? Need more consideration for people who may have varying food requirements that are unavailable to address during the booking process. I know you can't please everyone, but why overuse an ingredient that has a relatively low appeal to potential passengers? Will try again, just hope they can use similar customer service in their food preparation as they have otherwise."
Pros: "A 3-hour stop over for the connection was not enough!!! The flight to San Francisco was delayed another 90 mins, causing me to miss my 15-hour flight to Singapore, although we arrived 10 minutes before the United Flight! Ten other passengers missed the flight! A travesty! Worse, with "no hotels available", I was rerouted to Chicago for a flight via Tokyo at 1300 the following day! In short, a 30-hour trip became 48 hours of hell and of course an 18-hour delaed arrival in Singapore. But there was more: my luggage was "lost" and thus arrived two days late!!!!! The only saving grace: friendly and helpful UA staff in San Francisco and especially in Chicago. Wow! I deserve some compensaton, wouldn't you all agree?"
Cons: "Please see above!"
Pros: "Kayak notified me of the delays before United. Crew was nice. Ramp agents worked hard to get everyone on board quickly"
Cons: "Delayed 1 hour and 42 minutes. First delay notice too close to incoming aircraft arrival so you knew it wasn't an accurate adjusted departure time."
Cons: "Got bumped to an exit row by a friendly flight attendant due to my height (6'3"), which was great because the flight over was MISERABLE. The seat was still pretty narrow and uncomfortable, even for a guy who's been considered skinny his whole life."
Cons: "Booked a cheap flight but United wouldn't allow us to carry on our federally regulated carry on bags because we bought an economy class ticket. Made our flight expensive and will try and avoid United in our future flight plans"
Cons: "I bought a ticket on KAYAK and it was united flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. I buy many tickets going from LA to Vegas. After no indication about any extra costs but only the inability to check in… At the airport I was warned by one of the agents when she told me that my basic economy ticket would not allow me to bring my computer back on the plane without being charged. I've never experienced this in my life. I said I'm not paying and I went through TSA and I boarded without any problem. United has just been axed off of my list of Airlines with which I will travel. Come to think of it the only other airline that I can choose not to travel on his Spirit so United has reached new lows!"
Cons: "Told the gate attendant I was flying home for my dad's funeral and if there was anything they could do to move my seat from a middle seat to aisle seat he said not without charging me but I could ask when I boarded the plane. Once the doors were closing I asked the flight attendant if I could move up one row to an open aisle seat she said no not without charging me. I said there's no one in that whole row and I'm flying home for my dad's funeral and could they make an exception I would show them the obituary and funeral brochure if needed I just wanted some space. She got another gate attendant I explained the same thing and he said no. He said the seat will have to remain empty if I wasn't willing to pay for it. I told him r u serious? U r that inconsiderate and heartless as a company. I've already booked 2 flights w United and u can't make an exception as I was in tears he said no nothing. And walked off the flight. This airline is heartless and deserves all the bad publicity it's getting. Horrible horrible service. And the flight attendant Beth did nothing about it after he left."
Pros: "Horrible service"
Cons: "Very negative about this company they did two times cancelation, at first was problem with lights in plane and we stay over an hour, then they say that the airplain has mechanical problems and we waited about one more hour, then they returned us to airport and we waited one more hour, finally after 3 hours they start to board us but service was horrible so rod boarding people. So I hade meeting with singing contract in the morning, I was late contract cancelled and I lose my money..... The company did not any compensation. I'm so Negative, negative, about this company, not recommended will never have again"
Pros: "Sat in the back row and they did not get to us to offer soft drinks Every time the attendant made an announcement there was a loud beeping sound that was annoying"
Cons: "No beverage service to those in the back row and all you get is I am sorry. Never flying united again"
Cons: "Roundtrip flight to Seattle with a layover, first flight went without incident, so far so good. On the flight back (during a layover) literaly 5 minutes till boarding the plane, the pilot is ready to go, the people are standing in line, United decides it wont make enough $ on the flight and gives it to an Ontario flight. We are canceled and now have to wait 4 additional hours in the airport. Was told it was air traffic control that messed up, not United, which was not even possible and an obvious untruth. Was offered a complimentary bottle of water for the trouble. Classic united."
Cons: "I had a seat that had a monitor that was steaming code in front of me for 6 hours. It couldn't even be turned off. The only thing the crew offered was a piece of cardboard to cover it up. "If you download the United app you can pay to stream movies." I hate United and I don't use that word often. I would much rather give praises than complaints. Pay extra for food, entertainment, emergency isle seats... not that the tickets didn't already cost me a fortune. Crew even gave me grief about hanging up my suit!?! I flew to Thailand recently for less than flying to Texas, and everything was included, comfortable, and FRIENDLY. NOT UNITED."
Pros: "I finally arrived at my destination"
Cons: "he flight was from lax to SFO, the printed ticket said it was a two hour flight whereas I know it is a one hour flight. We proceeded to board the plane on time and then pushed off the gate and sat in the runway for 45 minutes fly to sf and sit there on the runway for 30-45 minutes. Which meant that we were on the runway more than in the air. I would never pick United again for my flight between la and sf as it would be much quicker and easier with southwest, Virgin or JetBlue."
Pros: "I had a medical emergency and the flight attendants were so very attentive, particularly Sue. It made all the difference and I felt better. You certainly never want to have that happen to you, but if it does you want compassionate and well-trained help around you."
Pros: "United is usually my first airline choice, so the flight went smoothly as I expected."
Pros: "Love the stroop waffles."
Cons: "Partially at fault of late arrival, but we only landed 10 minutes late, and were immediately rushed through baggage claim and customs to re-check our bags for the next flight. There my bags were scanned and all the guy said to me was "ooh that's too close" and walked away. I then stood in a line that did not move for over ten minutes, with only three people in front of me, while 6-7 desks were empty and doing nothing but talking amongst each other. I then called the guy that scanned my bags back over to ask why I was still standing there while my next flight was about to board and he told me I'd been rebooked!! I didn't want to wait for the next flight so then had to sprint, with my bags, from terminal 2 to 7 (which if you've ever walked through LAX you'd understand how unpleasant that was alone). I did make the flight, but just, thanks only to the girls at the checkout counter who were actually willing to help me, although not eager to."
Pros: "Gate and customer service agents were kind."
Cons: "Gate agent and computer decided to give standby seating to terminal traveling customers after a weather delay pushed our original flight past my connecting flights departure. E.g. The airline could have let me make my connection, since other guests, who had no connections to make and were also stand by. In addition, customer service refused to offer a hotel voucher, instead offering a third-party 'wholesale price' coupon to participating hotels. The discounted price is more than the flight! Perhaps United could acknowledge the priority conflict of causing overnight delays and offer a flight voucher..."
Cons: "I was used to seeing First Class customers getting coffee or any beverage prior to lift-off. It was my second time upgrading, and I didn't experience this."
Pros: "The crew on board the flights were always friendly and Stern with unruly customers. Very good job in that department."
Cons: "I am 5'10 and 155 lbs I wasn't so cramped in the sets that when the person infront of me put there seat back I couldn't cross my leg or sit comfortable. I can't imagine what a person any taller or larger then me felt. Oh also the average size man sitting extra to me was spilling over my seat. Luckily he did not smell and was very apologetic. The only reason I booked through united was because of how cheap they were. But with Lon delays. Rude check in emoployees, bad snacks, zero in flight entertainment 7.99 to watch tv? Come on you have us trapped already. (returning to Hawaii) and one of the worst seating set ups of my life. Yeah I'll gladly go back to delta."
Pros: "First time I used this airline and will start to use it more often. Very pleased with all services."
Pros: "Love that they let families with kids 2 and under on first. Helps tremendously."
Cons: "Have to pay for WiFi and if they don't have WiFi only you have to pay to watch DirectTv with no option to just watch a free movie."
Cons: "We where delayed for two hours or so, if you asked upon arrving during what should have been boarding you got a curt remark no information. There way no anouncement about a delay just one that the crew arrived, nothing about why we where delayed or estimation of time when we would board. Other delayed fights where getting information over the loud speaker. The attendants left the area came back when we could board and hurded us on the plane. Not a friendly face or smile. Everyone was tired, a little civility would have gone a long way"
Pros: "Literally nothing"
Cons: "Late boarding, 2-hour delay, overhead bins were full so 1/3 of the plane had to return to the bridge to surrender their carry-on bags to their final destination, the extra leg room I paid for was non-existent because there was a giant plastic thing blocking my foot area, the "touch screens" for entertainment were more like punch screens and the sound kept going out VERY frequently. The two hour delay caused almost half the plane to miss their connecting flights, myself included, and now my carry-on bag with my phone charger, clothes, toothbrush, Cologne, and basically everything I needed, was on its way to my final destination while I was not. The airline gave me vouchers for a hotel and two meals, $10 each, and a plane ticket that I couldn't use cause I had important appointments and meetings to be at, so I had to spend $177 to get a one-way car rental back home."
Pros: "I liked the variety of movies offered."
Cons: "On the trip going to Venice, I was unaware to download the United App to watch movies on board, so there was 5 hours of nothing. Wish I had known earlier."
Cons: "We had to make a emergency landing and held us up from our destination and plans. no extra food or drink was provided despite the extra time."
Cons: "More pad on the seats"
Pros: "Boarding staff and Crew were friendly"
Cons: "Not having to be delayed for 7 hours"
Pros: "The pilots were informative and polite."
Cons: "There’s no internet. Added fees for carry on is ridiculous. I flew Delta on outbound and read that my carry on would not be charged on my return flight with Spirit. The crew were not polite. The guy responds to questions, with a “HUH?!”And seemed not well trained with how to properly engage clientele. The plane was totally loaded 40 mins before the take off time, making it difficult to get pre purchased food. I arrive at 10:15 and everyone’s getting on the plane that’s scheduled to leave at 11:05."
Pros: "Not one thing. Besides they got they destination right. The staff hate they’re jobs. Everyone involved in this spirit airlines besides the pilots was in a bad mood.. I really liked how they waited till literally the last min an said your bag that you have used on your 8,564 previous flights to date. Is now 65$ to put in the same exact spot you were going to put your bag to begin with.. the same bag I’ve used for a shade under two decades of travel."
Cons: "You don’t have a box big enough for that. Bought ticket day in advance with insurance for this reason. checked in several hours in advance itenary machine could not print duplicate messed up several people days with not putting us on our flight. An then charging me 100$ more to secure the seat on the next flight. When all they had to do was print the item ready. I had meetings scheduled days in advance I missed that were worth 50x this entire ticket. An the airline doesn’t even know who it is that sells the insurance.? That’s a strait up scam.. worst airline in years. From the experience an the staff all the way around I was embarrassed to say I used this airline. If I had to guess on anything I think it’s close to being the next airline to hit the scrap yard. No one in this air line is committed to they’re work. I’ve always said “ Experience is the best teacher in anything”. An I’ve learned enough from this one...."
Cons: "Customer service is the worst. I called to modify my flight because lax traffic, after a myriad of options which included a 20hr flight (3hr non stop is what I had) or driving to Vegas to catch a 17hr flight, I was told “well at least your ticket was cheap” by their customer service agent. Worst airline out there, do not use them. On my flight to lax I see how they conveniently charge you less for your bags at the ticketing area where you have no way to check how big your bag is because there isn’t a receptacle like most airlines have to check them. So if you take the chance of your bag being considered a personal item vs a carry on (that costs $55) then you will surely find that receptacle at the actual gate to check your bag where they will charge you $100 no matter what. Perfect setup for the revenue they need."
Pros: "Smooth flight after 20-min delay on tarmac at LAX (not the airline's fault). Captain did very well to make up the time and got us to gate on schedule. Only one working restroom went far better than expected and whole flight crew seemed very attentive."
Cons: "Poor selection for food choices (gas station options at triple the price), but we had packed snacks and made do. No entertainment to speak of, but we had audiobooks on our phones. Upcharges for baggage were outrageous (an extra $100 for two 20-lb bags), but at least they got it all on the carousel fairly quickly once we arrived, thanks to TPA ground crew. Still, don't ever book a Spirit flight thinking you're done paying once you've purchased the ticket--that charge is only the beginning. Bags, seats, boarding time, food--it's all extra."
Cons: "Took my money and never deliver the paid services! If you’re late to reach your flght, your whole itinary, doesn’t matter how may flights you may have in it will be cancelled! No refunds, no flight changes, doesn’t matter if you did everthing you can to reach the consecutive flights on time!!! No REFUND for the flights you did not miss. This airline capitalize on your misfortune to make their profit without having to deliver the services you paid for up front! Also, they have lots of hidden fees after you purchase your ticket. Picking your seats so your family could fly together will cost more than the price of another ticket! Don’t forget the carry-on cost of $40 or more! Terrible business practice, they bully the customer because they can get away with it! Do business with them at your own risk!"
Pros: "Absolutely nothing!"
Cons: "Firstly they wanted m to pay $55 to bring on my carry on bag. That's ridiculous! It's a carry on! And it fit right in the overhead! Also it was not a full flight! So that made my tickets go up $55 just because the company is greedy! Seats were not at all comfortable and the drinks weren't complementary! If I'm paying $155 I should at least be offered a water or soda! For all that I could have done delta and I thought they were bad! This has been the worst flight I have ever taken! Please fix your greedy ways spirt"
Pros: "Like the a la cart options pertaining to seat selection, security fast pass and cleanliness of the plane."
Cons: "Seats are rather uncomfortable and cramped compared to other airlines, especially noticeable when the flight is for more than an hour or two. The small panel that is referred to as a tray table is more like the size of an ashtray so forget about using your laptop in flight. They have not updated their policy as other larger airlines regarding mobile phones (must be in airplane mode). The flights are commonly delayed (no weather issues). If you look at the departure screens, only Spirit was delayed and included about 70% of their flights. And the baggage policy is a bit confusing as they consider my backpack and satchel as two carry on bags and asked me to combine them prior to boarding."
Cons: "I payed extra for a big seat up front by the window and when I boarded the plane A young woman was sitting in my seat with 2 german shephards by her seat asking if I wouldn't mind switching to the ailse seat to allow her dogs more room. Being polite I went along with it but was annoyed the whole flight. her dogs were spilling into my seat and had the pleasure of dog breath wofting up to my seat and a shephards head resting on my ankles half of my 5 hour flight. Noone on the crew seemed to think this was out of the ordinary however. Will be avoiding spirit from now on. Not paying an extra $100 dollars for that kind of situation."
Pros: "The boarding went smoothly but we also got to the gate on time. The legroom seem to be bigger than other planes."
Cons: "It’s my first time I booked Spirit and it might be the last one. I was surprised that we paid $200 more of the fare we paid on Kayak. Some of the crew are friendly but passengers don’t seem to listen to them especially when we were taking off and the seatbelt sign was on. People are standing up to go to the lavatory. One person went twice! One It took an hour to turn off the seatbelt sign. The plane is new but it stinks. No form of entertainment at all. No TV or music which it should’ve been fine but they charged us more than I anticipated to pay."
Pros: "This was my first time flying Spirit Airlines and there was nothing that stood out to me as being exceptional."
Cons: "Didn't realize til checkin that I had to pay $40 each way to bring A carry-on. I paid extra for "security shortcut" which did not exist in the LAX airport. I showed my ticket to 3 different TSA agents who waved me on thru the same line as everyone else. Between the carry on and security shortcut I paid an extra $100 on top of my fare. I could have flown a major airline for the same overall cost. To make matters worse, I was seated next to a large woman who took up almost a third of my seat who was coughing the whole flight. She kept waving down the flight attendants for cups of ice and they seemed to ignore her more often than not. Ice is the only thing that's free. Even water costs $3. On the flight they bribe you with free miles to fill out a credit card application. I don't want to fly spirit again even if it's free, sorry!"
Pros: "Flight attendants were great!"
Cons: "The outtageous baggage fees, and fees for every little thing was frustrating... I was not the only one either, just in the time in line waiting to check in, I was multiple people be caught off guard by the fees and seem frustrated. Seats do not lean back, interior of plane, very bare minimum. But it is an economy flight. This would be an airline to take if you just have a small backpack and no luggage whatsoever. Otherwise with luggage it is a much better deal and more comfortable to fly other airlines. Won't fly Spirit again."
Cons: "I thought I was getting a cheap flight. Wrong! By the time I added in the cost of checking a bag (even pre-check in), I was pretty much in the same ballpark as other flights. If I wanted to select my seat, that would have made it even more. The seats were hard and did not recline at all and I was on a 4.5 hour red-eye flight. There wasn't any food available to purchase. On top of everything, I had to change my flight, which I did on Spirit.com. I purchased my bag check at the same time. When I got to the counter, my bags were paid, but my flight was not changed. I had to pay to change it at the counter (fortunately, there was room on the flight). They would not take any responsibility, just kept telling me it was my fault since I booked my flight incorrectly in the first place. Terrible airline, will not use again."
Pros: "The flights themselves were pretty easy and on time."
Cons: "We were traveling with a 2 year old and it was our first time purchasing him his own seat. We did tons of research to figure out the most efficient way to travel with our little guy and decided to bring his car seat on the plane since he travels so well in it. As long as there's a tag or some sort of label on the car seat stating that it is approved for air travel you can use it in a regular plane seat. The first boarding agent was completely unaware of this rule and acted like he was gonna make us check it at the gate. My husband insisted that he would not do that and that it was allowed, so the guy said "well you can try, but it's probably gonna get checked". Once we were on the plane, no one said another word. Feeling like pros by the time we were boarding our return flight home, we installed the car seat in the middle so we could sit on either side as we had on the way to our vacation. This time the flight attendants informed us that we had to install the car seat in the window as it could block the person sitting in the window seat from an easier escape in an emergency. Again, my husband explained that the person in the window seat would be me and that we had installed it in the middle on the way to our vacation, so she said "oh, okay then". Minutes later a second flight attendant came through telling us the same rule but enforced it. While I can appreciate their reason for the rule and the fact that they eventually enforced it, I was baffled at how many employees did not even know their own rules about car seat travel!"
Cons: "They nickel and dime you for everything. By the time you've paid $42 for a bag (or a carry on), the ticket price is the same as the next cheapest flight. If you don't print your boarding pass at home, that is $10; if your bag is too heavy, that is an extra $30; if you want water on the plane, that is extra; if you want a seat assignment, that costs extra. 45 minutes before we landed the flight attendant went on a sales pitch about getting a Spirit credit card. It was unbelievable. Oh, and the seats don't recline at all. I will NEVER fly this airline again."
Cons: "The flight from LAX was delayed twice and took off more than three hours later. The flight back from Philadelphia to LAX was canceled about two hours before the flight was to take off. Arranging a substitute new ticket on American cost me more than $680 - Spirit was offering an unacceptable replacement flight which would have been 2 days after the cancellation. Then, Spirit offered ONLY $50 as a coupon - instead of refunding the nearly $200 paid for the cancelled flight (or the actual damage of +$680). After I argued with Spirit they agreed to refund the cost of their ticket to LAX. END RESULT - Hours were lost due to Spirit delays and the flight cancellation, inconvenience was endured and more than $500 was lost. Very bad life flight experience."
Cons: "A friend and I were unable to check in online. Due to LA traffic we arrived 40 minutes before departure and the very rude desk jockey refused to even consider allowing us through. (Hard and fast rule: No check ins within 45 min of departure.) No seats were offered on a later flight either. The desk clerk was smug and indignant and his rudeness caused my friend (with a recent traumatic brain injury) great duress. We were extremely dismayed with Spirit Airlines and will never fly with them again. We want a refund!!!"
Pros: "Other than my issue, Spirit airlines was a pleasant to fly with. Comfortable, good crew."
Cons: "I didn't like that I had to pay for a carry on - since I had a roundtrip flight, not only did I have to pay a $60 fee for a carry on, but I had to do it twice. That cost me twice than the flight ticket itself. Normally flights allow for one personal item, which I had in the form of a backpack, but I also had a carry on, which carried the rest of my clothing since I've been traveling around the States. It would have been nice if the airline included the potential cost of a carry on when I purchased the ticket rather than surprise me with two $60 fees for my one carry on bag."
Pros: "Nothing. It never happened seeing as I never made it to Los Angeles"
Cons: "They emailed me at almost 11pm the evening before my 6 am flight stating that my flight had been cancelled with no reasoning. The website they guided to me showed my flight as still active. I then found a phone number to call which took 80+minutes to get a representative. She didn't even have the update showing that the flight had been cancelled. She told me to call back in 15 minutes. I told her that was assenine seeing that it would take another hour. The system finally updated. She was able to offer me a flight not on Friday at all but Saturday afternoon/evening. Taking over 30 hoursaway from my vacation. I asked to have my money refunded. They obliged but couldn't refund the 40 some dollars from the 3rd party sight which I booked through when clicking book on kayak. My whole weekend was ruined. Horrible."
Pros: "Nicole at Spirit corp who reversed the charge."
Cons: "Kayak didn't mention the luggage charge at all. Then Spirit didn't send me the required email though I called twice so by the time I got it the charge was fifty BOTH WAYS. I got that reveresed by corporate but the ticket counter people were AWFUL and uncaring and not just to me. Everyone in line was saying they would never use Spirit again. One woman was charged eight dollars to get a seat next to her toddler! Awful gouging airline. It costs one hundred dollars if you don't know and bring a suitcase to the plane without paying days before!"
Pros: "The attendants were nice. The pilot was kinda funny."
Cons: "I didn't do my research.... A carry on cost $55 at time of checkin. Most seats do not recline. Beverages/snacks...even the basics cost. No onboard internet. I'm sure these are all things I could have found out with a little digging but I was buying a ticket in a hurry at the last minute. Not blaming anyone but myself but Spirit is not the airline for me. I got the feeling they promote themselves as a budget airliner but when you add of the costs of a carry on a account for the missing comforts I felt like there wasn't much savings in terms of experience. This is not for airline snobs...which I guess I am."
Pros: "We got there. Eventually."
Cons: "First of all, delays. Both flight we took for this trip were delayed, one by a good 7 hours, the other almost 2. That's a rate of 100% for us. During the wait, no explanation, or worse, some BS about the weather. The other companies did not experience any delay due to weather... The flight attendants might as well not be there. At least we wouldn't have to suffer stupid jokes. You get what you pay for, however in this case when you tally up all the fees it is not that much cheaper. Last, the website is downright crappy, starting with password security, to layout and speed. Getting anything done is a chore, and the policies are of course well hidden. I don't think we'll fly spirit ever again."
Cons: "The flight was delayed into LAX due to weather and I missed my connecting flight to MCI. The associates at the gate in LAX said there was nothing they could do and directed me to exit the airport and go to the front ticketing counter. When I approached the counter I was greeted with lackluster focus and no sense of urgency. The ticket agent told me to go wait 'outside' for 45-60 miniutes until a supervisor would return. I let them know this was not acceptable. One agent ignored my situation completely while the Jr agent attempted to assist me by making calls on her personal cell phone. They let me know they could get me home within 24-48 hours, but I would still need to talk to a supervisor. I informed them there were flights on other airlines that day, to which they said they could not help me and to book it myself if I wanted to fly home that day. On multiple occasions during our conversation the agents said 'they should have helped you in Seattle before your flight left.' At one point walking away from me. I stated 'well, that did not happen. I inquired in Seattle regarding the connection and the agents at the gate stated that 'every flight is delayed' from LAX and it won't be an issue'. I booked a flight with American and flew out that evening. I will never book with Spirit Airlines again. I will always use the airline sight first before booking through sites such as Kayak as well."
Pros: "Not very much, the crew was pleasant and that was the only decent thing about the flight."
Cons: "There was no option to get a mobile boarding pass and I was not near a printer and wanted to do it before arriving at the airport. Only being able to check one bag is the silliest and most inconvenient rule since I was gone for 10 days and needed to bags for all my things. The charge for an extra bag was practically what it cost to buy a plane ticket. The seats on the plane were the most uncomfortable plane seats I've ever been on especially for a 4 hour flight. Finally, there was no in flight entertainment for a 4 hour flight offered. There wasn't even an option for in-flight wifi for purchase. It was the worst flight I have ever had. It's 2017 and Spirit's lack of amenities that every other airline offers is a sorry excuse for providing slightly cheaper airfare than most airlines. I never desire to fly with Spirit again."
Pros: "Spirit Airlines gouged us on our baggage in multiple ways. The worst was forcing us to pay $100 (yes, $100) to check my 5 year old son's TINY little "carryon suitcase" at the gate in Los Angeles because it rose 1/2 inch above the top of their "personal item" measuring bin. I complained, loudly, and they acted like they were doing me a favor by lowering the "fee" (blackmail / protection racket extortion - after telling us in Chicago that the little bag was OK) to $65 With this fee our total costs for our luggage on one roundtrip flight, for a family of four, including an 8 and a 5 year old, was OVER $300! And we packed reasonably, only checking three bags each way, plus the forced checking of the fourth bag on the way back."
Cons: "Insult to injury is their luggage tags, which all showcase the slogan "Save Major Moolah". I will NEVER fly Spirit again, and I will be lodging a formal complaint."
Pros: "We showed up to the airport for a flight from Oakland to LA and the agent notified us that our flight was cancelled. This was on December 23rd, and they told us they could put us on another flight on December 25th! We were returning on the 26th so that was entirely unhelpful. They said the reason for the cancellation was weather in LA. But none of the other airlines were having any issues with their flights. We were flying at 9am and there was rain in LA at about 7pm. They offered to refund us, which we accepted. I was expecting to have to harangue them to actually get our money back, but the refund came through unprompted about a week later. We did not get reimbursed for our cabs to/from the airport, or for the cost of driving to LA."
Cons: "Spirit manipulates their prices and the way the system works to look like they are cheap flights but get you in other places in order to make way more money off you. I almost had to play 100 dollars because of bag issues that weren't my fault. Luckily my family was flying southwest and they were able to take my bag with them. I should have stayed with dependable southwest airlines. Another guy next to me payed 100 dollars for a carry on bag. And customer service is really bad specially in Portland airport pdx. Will never fly spirit airlines again and will recommend friends and family not fly with them either."
Pros: "Despite my gripes, the staff was professional and polite."
Cons: "Firstly, I understand a discount airline will try it's best to place fees anywhere possible, but it seemed as though I was living in the fine print. Concerning luggage fees, the staff at every counter had a different opinion on what could be considered a personal items. While heading to LAX had one standard, returning to IAH had another. Rules seemed to be arbitrary. For example, a backpack was ok, but wheels on a backpack might change it's "category." On the speakers, "small backpacks" was permissible, but this is subjective. This is in addition to the fact that some Spirit employees told customers "any backpack is okay because it's a backpack." I fly frequently and have the smallest lightest carry-on case made by Hershey. I have never had problems with it's dimensions. It BARELY poked it's top out of that cage-fitting stand. I mean, it skimmed the top. Really, it was the handle that peaked out. I should have taken a picture. I had to pay $65 dollars for that one. Then, another $65 for a small backpack for my little cousin because it had wheels that couldn't retract! 2) The obvious confusion on whether to use kiosks or not was also apparent. People did not understand if both were needed. The confusion resulted in people asking other people to watch their luggage while they went over to the kiosk! In a post-911 world, this is not only poor airport etiquette, but downright dangerous. There should be signs stating: "If you need to check-in luggage, print and get in line, unsure if you need to pay, get in line, or if you have one personal item (showing measurements), print your boarding pass and continue to security. 3) No complimentary anything is given during flight. Sell. Sell. Sell. I and the three family members that accompanied me will NEVER book with Spirit again."
Pros: "I was quite surprised at check-in to find that checking a bag cost $50 and a carry-on was an additional $55. I travel frequently and usually the first checked bag is free or $25, and a carry-on is free. I booked on Kayak and didn't see any notification that your additional fees were so much higher than the industry standard. It appears that your business model is to attract clients with low prices, then hit them with hefty additional charges at th airport, when it would be difficult for them to change plans. It worked this time, but I will never fly Spirit Airlines again. I suggest that you reconsider the way you treat your clients."
Pros: "On time, price of ticket, swift boarding, expedient arrival at my destination, friendly crew. I do want to add the experience that my nephew and his 4-year old son had on their Spirit flight a few days earlier than mine. My grandnephew did not know where to exit after landing. This was his first airplane ride. He walked straight down the aisle with everyone else, but instead of making a left turn towards the door, he walked straight ahead and right into the cockpit, much to his father's chagrin. Rather than admonish him, the pilot kindly introduced himself and gave Jacob a tour of the cockpit. :-D These days, not too many pilots will do this, so I want to say Thank-you for making my grandnephew's first airplane ride so memorable. <3"
Cons: "It was quite stressful not to exceed the 40# limit. My poor Fitbit scale had no idea who was standing on it (over and over again), ultimately labeling me as a Guest. Just as well; I really did not want such a number registered on my Fitbit online account. The seats were unsurprisingly not very cushy, but for a 2-3 hour flight, it wasn't so bad. After landing and as we approached the terminal to disembark, for whatever reason the pilot slammed on the brakes, causing all passengers to lurch forward violently, as did the luggage in the cargo hold based on the awful sound coming from underneath my feet. Immediately afterwards, the jet made a right turn towards the terminal. Thankful that this happened on the ground and not while still in the air! No luggage was harmed in the sudden stop."
Pros: "I went to the wrong terminal and ended up missing my flight. The people at the check-in counter said my seat had been given away, they could not reroute me with their computer system, and I had to call Reservations. I did so, was put on hold for several long stretches, and ultimately told that not only could I not get on another outbound flight without purchasing a brand-new ticket, but my return flight was now nullified and I would have buy that again too. Despite how distraught I obviously was, Spirit was unwilling to do anything to assuage the situation. I wasted an hour on the phone in the airport and ended up having to drive to LA through traffic on my birthday. A terrible experience. Never again. Will fly Southwest."
Cons: "Employees are not empowered to work toward customer satisfaction. Whether it's a computer system constraint or "policy" company line, Customer Service does not have the ability/inclination to solve problems and help customers."
Pros: "The main flight attendant who did the announcements was a hilarious, irreverent funny guy who actually made me pay attention to all of his announcements for the first time in years. The Southwest flight attendants are sometimes cute, but this guy was HILARIOUS. Made the trip a true delight. Best thing about Spirit airlines is this one guy. The seats were comfortable and pretty spacious for airlines today."
Cons: "Spirit's "no frills" gimmick is really just annoying because by the time you get the things you NEED, all of which you have to separately pay for on Spirit, you have paid more than you would on any other airline. And every time you have to pay for another dang thing, you feel like you are being scammed just a little bit more. I try so hard to avoid Spirit airlines but sometimes it's the only way to get where I need to go. Before I click the "book" ticket, I add up all the extras I know are coming to make sure it REALLY is the best fare."
Pros: "Seats were fine, and the cabin felt nice and cool. The attendants were nice as the interacted with fellow passengers. The flight felt smooth, and they got us to our destination safely."
Cons: "The employees at the gate were extremely unorganized, and played a confusing back-and-forth game on the intercom during the boarding. Although the attendants were curtious to those in need, they lacked in competence. Many passengers either a) could not follow instructions as request, or b) control their children. The attendants just seemed to let it slide, an not show any enforcement. In lieu of the 5-7 minute announcement touching on passenger safety, and respect towards fellow customers, a little more effort from the employees would have gone a long way on his flight. Finally, once we arrived, our gate was occupied. Then, the jetwave operated did not show up for some time. Therefore, we did not disembark the plane until an hour after landing. Apologies for the lengthy complaint, but this seems to be a trend for Spirit, and it's a bit ridiculous. However, thank you for getting us to our destination safely."
Cons: "We were surprised to learn that our trip would cost an extra $100 as a penalty for bringing carry-on luggage. $52 for a checked bag and $55 for a carry-on. We were then repeatedly shown playful messages reminding us that we would have saved money if we had only paid for them earlier online. For our four hour and fifty four minute flight, no complimentary drinks or snacks were provided, not even water, though there were drinks for sale. Thankfully we had packed our own snacks. We felt kind of scammed with the bags. And the whimsical marketing style was insulting. Spirit Airlines apparently wants to be relatable and hip, but the actual flight experience was stingy and alienating. They did get us to our destination though."
Pros: "I liked the fact that the plane did not crash you know i originally type the overall rating as poor only it took to long to load on the computer - i then chose a better classification and it loaded instantaneously. I certainly would have hesitations in sending a child or elderly person traveling alone granted the seat belt sign went on and an elderly gentleman was making his way from the front of the plane to the back bathroom - the female flight attendant told him to get to his seat or be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law - have we come to this in our society or is this the spirit of Spirit Airlines."
Cons: "the airlines treated the flight attendants as bar maids and their only were interest was in swiping a credit card. everything on this air lines cost money - carry on baggage, water soda i wondered what a vomit bag would have cost. Plan ahead as you have to ask in advance for a bag. the flight left late and arrived late. Passengers could get dehydrated with no water on a long (more and a few hours) flight. with everything costing money; it appears cheap - Is Spirit Airlines also being cheap on the maintenance. I am sure you are not - this is a rhetorical question."
Pros: "I thought the seats were decent, and the aisle is wider than most."
Cons: "I didn't like the fact that only one bathroom was working. The price for luggage is OUTRAGEOUS. There was pretty much no service from the flight attendants. This was the first time I've flown with Spirit and it will be the last. I should have known better than to not book with Delta or Southwest. Even though you lure customers in with your initial low price but than you nickel and dime the customers to death with fees for everything and the extreme high cost for luggage, that your initial ticket price became higher than the other two carriers initial price. Shame on you!"
Pros: "The flight attendants were pretty great."
Cons: "As soon as I sat down and figured out I couldn't move my seat back I knew I had entered a nightmare. The guy sharing my row was a selfish jerk who kept putting his items on the middle seat to claim "his territory". There were 3 babies on the red eye flight who took turns crying, so almost the whole flight was speckled with little baby outbursts of emotion. And the amount of leg room provided is just absolutely ridiculous for anything longer than an hour flight! I'm certain the CEO of the company that runs Spirit Airlinesflies first class on another airline and never flies crappy old Spirit!"
Pros: "Some of the crew members were friendly. The other half were not."
Cons: "Spirit dropped us off in Grand Junction with no TSA agent and no information given for 7 hours-no ground transportation options, no hotel offering, no food voucher, and NO ONE there to even tell you how screwed you were. Absolutely unacceptable. We were en route to Denver and told the weather was bad so we landed in Grand Junction. Our baggage was left on the plane and we were told before exiting that another crew was on the way there to take over because the current crew had met their maximum hours. The onboard crew told us that the TSA agent inside would have more information for us. We exited the plane and entered a tiny airport with no gate agent and two security guards struggling to answer our questions. We were told that we had more information than they did. Then we waited. For seven hours we waited. No information at all. Our entire flight crowded the tiny cafe that had just closed, forcing them to open out of the kindness of their hearts. They weren't ready for that kind of volume so simple burritos took an hour and a half to receive. After three hours pizza arrived...from where (possibly Spirit, but doubtful) we don't know, but most of us and already ordered from the cafe. We watched the hours fly by with no one telling us anything. I called Spirit's 800 number four times before finally reaching a real person. That real person put me on hold and finally after fifteen minutes told me that he had no information about any rescue crew coming to take us to Denver. He was supposed to be the one with information, right?!!! Long story short, we left LA at 1pm and after being rerouted, we finally arrived in Denver at midnight. Biggest joke of all was when we landed, I received a voicemail that my bag was waiting for me in Denver. How is that possible, I wondered. Turns out, my bag missed my initial flight, caught a later flight, and luckily (ha!!!) our flight was rerouted for 7 hours so my bag got there before me. If the fact that you get a tiny discount for booking Spirit, but then pay through the nose for carry-on bags, checked baggage, printing your boarding pass if you forgot to (really???), any and every beverage and food item...isn't bad enough (does everyone realize Spirit is more expensive in the long run??? I do now!) Life is too short to fly Spirit. Period. Pay the extra $15 for a real airline. Oh...and my fiance had to uninstall and then reinstall his seat belt buckle because it was improperly put together. Seat belts were flimsy, seats don't recline, seats look like polyurethane over folding chairs. I can't say enough about how horrible the Spirit experience is."
Pros: "The plane only left a half an hour late, yet still managed to make it to the destination over an hour late!"
Cons: "I get it, Spirit is a low-cost operation. But does it have to show in everything they do? All of the staff seemed rather disinterested in the customers, to the point where they weren't sure if someone had sneaked onto the flight! That sure got them hopping. Unfortunately, it took half an hour to sort out. In the meantime, there we all alwere, stuck in our too small seats with their too little leg room. Once we left the gate, it became evident that the flight crew were not just indifferent to the passengers, they were passive-aggressively antagonistic about us. I mean, everyone has a bad day now and then, but the whole crew? Seems like it could be a systematic issue with this airline. I've flown cheap before, and you get what you ou for, but I didn't sign up to feel as if I were despised."
Cons: "On the website there was no mention of an additional charge for a carryon. However, at the airport we are asked by Spirit front office to pay for each of our carryon's $55.00 each. Very disappointed by the unethical business practice. Had I known this charge at the time of purchase I would have chosen another carrier. Will never fly with Spirit and purchase a ticket from Kayak. Good luck with your deceptive business practices, By the way both of our carryons were small size and under 15lb's. What a shame."
Cons: "After realizing how much extra I was going to pay for "buying" my seat, boarding pass, and my luggage, my checked bag weighed 2 pounds over. Well, there's another $25. I was pulled for a second security check which I guess I can't blame Spirit for but only after getting to my destination tonight did I realize that something fell out of the bin when the officer took my things to scan it again. Good bye cute make up bag. The flight was delayed and the gate changed several times before we actually boarded. Seats were very crowded and you had no room to move. Thank goodness it was only an hour flight."
Pros: "As far as being seated everything went smoothly for me, however, people next to me got the same seat assignment. I've heard that's occurred multiple times in the past."
Cons: "There are several reasons why my friend and I will never choose to fly with Spirit again. During our red eye flights the leg room was narrow but more importantly there was not an option to recline the seats back. I don't know about you but my 7-8hr worth of flight was extremely uncomfortable. I couldn't even have enough room to pull out the tray and lay on that. Another suggestion is the cheap price versus United or another company eventually evens out so why would I choose Spirit when I brought a dinky carry on and had to pay $55 for it. Not to mention I would have been charged for any beverage such as a cup of water. I had one red eye and one 8am flight. You'd think they'd cut you some slack. Spirit Airlines? Never again. The poor quality as a whole will not deceive me again. Many customers walking onto the plane were also dissatisfied that these were the conditions we were going to endure for 6hrs."
Pros: "Crew was kind"
Cons: "the bag fees, seat choices, and additional amenities add up. What started as a 286$ flight, turned into almost 400. The ride was very uncomfortable as my fellow passengers had no regards to other people on the plane. The planes are not nice, which is unfortunate for long flights. We were re-routed due to low gas, but the information on getting us back on the plane was minimal and inefficient. The crew really needs to work on communication. What was supposed to be a 4 hour journey, turned into a 9 hour journey. Just not an ideal situation. Won't be flying Spirit again."
Cons: "I don't like how Spirit Airlines like to penny pinch every customer until your "great deal" on your ticket goes from a good deal to at par with other major airlines and sometimes a bad deal compared to major carriers. Spirit charges you for everything, including water. They don't offer any free snacks, even on lengthy cross country flights. They charge you for all carry on and checked bags. Checked bags will be considered overweight if it's over 40 pounds which is 10 pounds less than most airlines."
Pros: "Quick flight to Las Vegas."
Cons: "The employees were very unprofessional. When I arrived to board the lady Continurd to be on her phone whilst walking up to board. It took 4mins to get off her phone and scan my ticket. The flight attendants were very rude. One flight attendant was eating pizza while going through the aisles. I could not believe how unprofessional this experoence was. I will probably never fly with with spirit nor recommend this to anyone. Lastly, They did not inform me that I had to pay for a carry on to and fro my destination. Not very happy with that either. I paid overall $138.00 and booked 2 months prior to coming to Las Vegas from lid Angeles. I could have got Soutwest airlines for cheaper. So misleading!"
Cons: "Everything tons of hidden last minute fees thought you guys were affordable. You tell people to arrive 2 hrs early for checkin but 45 minutes prior to flight you stop boarding . I was forced to buy another flight . I would like a refund or a complimentary flight. I missed a job opportunity because I came 45min until take off the plane was still docked. But I was forced to purchase a longer flight with a layover in Dallas amongst my other layovers. I ended up being very sick because of all the stop and go and my original flight was only 4hrs I had to pay extra for a longer flight that was delayed in Dalllas for 3hrs. Everyone was complaining said they never fly spirit again. I would like to give spirit another chance. But I also would like a full refund checked bags as well your hidden fees"
Pros: "Nothing. Their ticket is not even cheaper than the other airlines. They just want to charge you for anything. I paid for my carry-on last minute, so I had to pay $40. Seems like if I paid for it when I bought my ticket, it would have been around $20. But didn't see a notice about it! I ended up paying $150 for my ticket including the carry-on fee. I could have buy a ticket with Alaska or Delta with the same rate, a different time of the day."
Cons: "The seats are not adjustable. They are in an upright position and you can't change them. They are way less comfortable than bus seats. The tray table is half of a letter size paper. They don't even have a slot for a cup. They don't serve you even water in the flight. You have to pay for everything. No magazines. No entertainment. They had advertisements of a casino in Las Vegas with a picture of a lady's legs on the overhead compartments. Just like what you see in a bus. They brag about themselves on saving us money by not charging the passengers for magazines, wifi, and "extra" things and as a result they offer a very low quality flight and their price is the same as others at the end. Really disguating corporation. Will never fly with them again."
Cons: "Both flights were substantially delayed causing havoc in the schedules of those picking me up. They have this carryon policy that anything bigger than basically a handbag, you are charged $55 each way!!! This added $110 to my flight!!!! I ending up paying more than my other more sane and professional options. I should of flown Southwest. Then on the loudspeaker in the plane, they talk about what a great airline they are and that you should apply for their credit card. I have to say not one person filled out the application even though you got frequent flyer miles."
Pros: "This flight originated out of Portland to Las Vegas and then to Los Angeles where it was scheduled to depart to Dallas at 10:31 am. Initially at 9:45 when I checked in at 9:40 I was told the flight was delayed until 2:30 pm. Then when I called Spirit at 12:40 pm after receiving an e-mail from Kayak that the flight was cancelled I was told that I had 2 options: (1) To fly to Vegas where I would connect at 1:50 am and arrive in Dallas at 6:30 am or to receive a refund. The next day arrival into Dallas was not possible or acceptable so I chose the refund.. Later I found out that other passengers were booked on other flights, offered a $25.00 food voucher, and a $50 credit to be used within 60 days. I found this out after I had already booked another flight on American Airlines and when I spoke with a Spirit ticket agent they said that you made a decision so ther isn't anything that they (Spirit) could do. It cost me an additional $200.00 dollars to get to Dallas 9 hours later. What a way to be treated by Spirit Airlines after they knew the flight was cancelled when it never left Portland. My husband is a 21 year Army Officer and we travel ofter (1st time with Spirit) and we have never been treated with such disrespect. Thank You Susan Boyko"
