Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Speedy boarding. Helpful crew."
Cons: "In-flight entertainment"
Pros: "Crew was fine."
Cons: "The first class seats on these newer 737-800s are VERY disappointing. Width is ok, but legroom is on par with economy expectations. With my tray out and the person in front of me reclined, I could barely see my laptop. There is also very little space under the seats, especially for the aisle seat."
Pros: "nothing. Plane never left."
Cons: "Airlines that actually fly. We ended up renting a car and driving the 3.5 hours from Charlotte to Savannah and actually beat the flight that finally left after 11 pm and landed 1 am. We should have gotten the car much sooner and driven instead of sitting at the airport for 8 hours."
Cons: "The flight attendant that helped passengers in the main cabin was rude, lacked empathy, and lacked resourcefulness. She argued about throwing away a drink that she poured, didn’t care to explain things to passengers when asked i. e. why charging outlets were not in service, and her tone was rude ..."
Pros: "The attendant for my area was amazing. I was in the back of the plane and he was friendly. He helped me look for my power cord. He is an outstanding member of your team!"
Cons: "Nope, this was a great flight!"
Cons: "I've flown American airlines twice this year. The service and flights have been very good. One thing I'd like to see is a variety of snack options."
Pros: "Boarding process was easy."
Cons: "Different snack options."
Pros: "Trip went smoothly"
Pros: "Crew was great. Made sure I made my connection. Even tried to get me a better placement so I could quickly exit and head to my next flight."
Cons: "It wa super cold on my second flight. Small plane, rather loud."
Cons: "Potentially of hiccups and things outside of AA control. Better, more comfortable seats would be nice."
Cons: "Once we landed, we waited on the tarmac for good 20 minutes because something (I didn't understand what) was blocking the gate."
Pros: "Generally, the stewardess are new (slow service), but very kind and considerate."
Cons: "I take this flight quite a lot. These comments are for this flight (MIA/MSP) - but not necessarily only for this exact flight that I took on 10/1. To be clear - the crew says "this is not AA", it is Republic Airlines". Well, they must think of themselves very poorly. Their food in first class is always changing - oh, I meant only the names for the same exact meal change. "Grilled Chicken with Couscous", "Grilled Chicken with Risotto", etc.. - all cold meals as they do not have an oven/microwave? on the plane. They are charging first class international prices for economy domestic service. For this amount of money, they should have better meals and a more modern airplane. The first class is always freezing (even in summer) while the rear cabin where the crew stays when not working, is hot. So if they make the first class happy with the correct temperature, they cook in the back. I have also observed more people than usual coughing and getting colds - both ways - than any of the other flights I take regularly (over 115,000 miles on AA this year). I would suggest that AA make it clear that Republic must offer better service to their customers - especially for the large airfares they are receiving."
Pros: "Short flight"
Cons: "Delayed for some unknown reason"
Pros: "Let's see - I was in first class. The flight itself was fine - and only one hour + late!"
Cons: "Food - Served the "breakfast" (when it was called a protein plate) I had coming (into MSP). for "lunch" on the way back (called it a meat plate for lunch. One slice turkey, one slice jamon, one egg, cinnamon roll and fruit. Just because they don't want to serve bread - they call it a protein plate? I'm not on a protein diet. Food was pretty sick for the amount I paid for the fight. Stewardess said it was against Republic's rules to give a customer a can of tonic water (so I could add to the small amount of vodka) - she also told me that it was against Delta's, American's and United's rules to give a can - strange? First Class seat did not recline. First Class was freezing per every flight on this segment (the stewardesses sit in the back and don't want to be uncomfortable - if they make the front warm - the back is too hot for them (not joking on this one). So many things to list - that I will finish on the AA site."
Pros: "We were rerouted through Philadelphia."
Pros: "The crew on the plane was lovely."
Cons: "Waiting for maintenance, leaving late, running through the airport. No help from airport staff. They really seemed like that they didn’t care a bit if people made there flights. We barely made our connection to London. People who are 59 should NOT have to run through a huge airport! We spent a lot of money and planned this trip for nearly a year. There were no updates from Kayak. I will use Expedia from now on."
Pros: "The crew was very good. The made sure we were informed and helped get people rebooked."
Cons: "We were delayed by about 2 and 1/2 hours. Which I get no one can control a maintenance issue, just made for a hectic day"
Cons: "Flight delays and cancellations."
Pros: "Comfortable and simple flight"
Pros: "Great service."
Cons: "Only served half people beverages. No entertainment"
Cons: "Bathrooms didn't work delaying initial departure an hour. Ran to connecting flight and made it prior to door being closed. 12 passengers in total were told that we would be boarded and then were abrubly told none would be boarding our final leg to the Caymans even though our seats were available. Horrible company culture not focused on customers."
Pros: "The crew was friendly and efficient, the pilot kept the passengers informed about the delays and updated gate info, etc. well. The seats and interior were cleaner and in better shape than I remember from the last time I flew American."
Cons: "The flight was delayed waiting for crew. The pilots arrived, then a couple of stewards and finally the last steward. Then had to de-ice and wait in line for takeoff. Made my connecting flight with 6 minutes to spare. Never received beverage service. Took 20 minutes to do the first 6 rows and then was discontinued because of turbulence."
Cons: "Took off late from Minneapolis only to announce that there was something wrong with the plane, no explanation as to what but that we had to circle to burn off fuel before returning to Minneapolis. Switched to a flight to D.C. with a connection to get to LGA. As soon as we sat down on that flight an announcement was made that we wouldn't make our connecting flight. Got to D.C. and asked to switch to go into Westchester instead of LGA which we were denied. So changed to another connecting flight to LGA that didn't take off on time. Offered nothing for any of the inconveniences. Etc."
Cons: "was seated between 2 to very overweight persons, the person in the aile side, extrememly heavy needed extension belt, plus removing the arm rest next to me and using great part of my seat. not a very comfortable situation and the plane was FULL, no empty seats"
Pros: "Wider seats."
Cons: "I left an expensive Bose head set in my seat that could not be found....or did smobody decide it was better in their possession.?"
Cons: "delayed 2 hrs in perfect weather"
Pros: "straight through flight no connection. Crew was friendly and smiled."
Cons: "I do not like that you have to pay to choose a decent seat. Our flight was slightly delayed in boarding, and was not communicated."
Pros: "The crew was friendly and competent."
Cons: "Airlines have an industry wide problem. They INTENTIONALLY make every part of flying miserable so that passengers will pay anything to make it less painful. For example... if you want to make boarding quicker, build the cost of checked luggage into ticket prices so that you don't have people carrying everything on and clogging up the process. Or use the existing and publicly available research to improve boarding mechanisms... but that would mean you lose an opportunity to squeeze extra cash out of people for 'priority boarding'. This phenomenon is real, and currently be investigated by congress. Call your senator."
Pros: "In flight entertainment options. new, clean aircraft."
Cons: "Seat comfort. All the money spent on aircraft amenities, technology, storage, etc. Why not more comfortable seats?"
Pros: "The Check In Agents were so kind and helpful especially when they found out we were having a rough time with a family situation.....So blessed to have those two ladies working for such a magnificent airlines"
Cons: "you have become like the rest of the wolf pack......charges on everything! Try become like Pan Am of days of old!"
Cons: "We were inside a plane for almost 3 hours due to unavable pilot. They got us out and then back in again, all in all we wasted six hours until the flight was cancelled."
Pros: "Crew was pleasant"
Cons: "Needed to return to gate to refuel after aborted takeoff attempt. Thi"
Pros: "Boarding was easy and flights were on time."
Cons: "Crew could have been a little more friendly and the planes were a bit dated...although I know AA is in the process of replacing their fleet."
Cons: "Flight was cancelled we were re-routed and didn't get there until 24hours later."
Cons: "Delayed flight, moderately friendly crew, moderately comfortable flight, expensive."
Pros: "The flight staff did the best they could for how few of them there were."
Cons: "Flight cancelled, and the gate was understaffed, so it took forever to even get up to the counter to try arranging alternate flights. Also, the Kayak/Webjet tickets we were issued interfered with the process as the airline could not reissue us tickets directly. Moreover, one Kayak & Webjet got actively involved, they even tried to deny us passage on the alternate flights that American Airlines suggested. By the time we did make it up to the desk, everything was taken/full for the next few days & we have been struggling to make our overseas travel even possible ever since."
Pros: "It was nice that I had a seat empty next to me, allowing for extra room. Flight was a little early in landing in Dallas, allowing for extra time for a short layover to find my terminal and gate for my next flight."
Cons: "All was good."
Pros: "Quick board and exit, fast check-in"
Cons: "Wi-Fi onboard free for all T Mobile customers, cramped seat room for a smaller adult even"
Pros: "Assigned seating, snacks, touch screen media feature."
Cons: "Staff could have been more friendly."
Pros: "The food, in flight entertainment and attention to detail by the Flight Attendants was very good."
Cons: "The personnel handling the front desk at check in gave myself and others bad information about how to check a bag. Which resulted in me being called to the desk at the gate about 30 minutes prior to boarding and being told I screwed up checking my bag when I was just following the instructions given to me. Was then told I had to leave the secure area of the airport, go back to the front to check my bag all within 30 minutes of boarding. when I returned thru the TSA checkpoint they were rude, obviously, but more importantly the flight was boarding early. So you could've 1. told me what the actual procedure is for checking my bag instead of telling me "just leave it by the green lit up check mark then 2. told me at the gate that not only do i need to go fix your mistakes for you but that youd also board my flight early thereby putting me in jeopardy of missing my flight. all i got was a very insincere apology when I complained up front and at the gate about the airline's screw up. i get that you're all human like me and make mistakes but the customer is always right. there was a time in this country when customer appreciation and service were important standards and qualities businesses thrived on. Don't know what happened to those days... Also i should not need to be a first class passenger to get a meal during a flight. whatever happened to meals for everyone? you (all airlines in the US) charge way too much money and provide poor service compared to pre-9-11 days. I dont see how one event can justify the loss in service but the increase in ticket price. you should all get back to what flying should be about: fun and time saving."
Cons: "Think it is ridiculous that I had to pay so much to select a seat ahead of time, and it was just a regular seat. I can understand for extra legroom or exit row, but for a regular seat, that is ridiculous. Then there was a fee to change priority boarding, so I could ensure I was able to have my carry-on with me, instead of risk having it go underneath. Unable to use the entertainment, as I was unaware had to use my own device, which I had not set up in advance."
Pros: "I liked the fact I eventually ended up in Dallas - that's about the only thing I liked about this flight."
Cons: "Inconsistent service - some customers got cans, some got just a cup with a lot of ice and drink. FAs were uninterested when the drink I wanted was not available. Flight was delayed by a maintenance issue. Overall, a terrible experience."
Pros: "The staff tried to help as much as possible."
Cons: "I called American Airlines as ssoon as I book my trip to set up and make sure my small dog could fly with me. They neglected to inform me their partner, jetstar, does not fly animals. My luggage did not arrive with me. Both of my suitcases were mangled and broken. Items in my suitcases were shattered and crushed even though they were well packed and protected. We got stuck on the terminal in MSP and missed our connecting flight. When we finally arrived the systems were down and could not get new flights or hotels. We were told we could not get hotels and had to argue for an hour. Even though it was a maintenance issue. I arrived a day late and had to take extra leave. The plane from LAX to Tokyo was horrific. I booked a window seat, was stuck in the very middle. There was no way to charge outlets devices. The screen did not work. And my new luggage was also damaged with even more items destroyed."
Cons: "They didn't give my parents who are in their 80s seats together, that's not right."
Pros: "Friendly and prompt service."
Pros: "Comfortable seats and mostly friendly crew"
Cons: "Judgemental rookie flight attendant Dimensions of a standard size carry-on bag were supplied on website but did not include the wheels. So in the end, I had to pay for a personal item at the gate - which should have been free in my opinion - only because the wheels stuck out 1 inch"
Pros: "Cost was a deciding factor."
Cons: "Seats were uncomfortable but you get what you pay for."
Pros: "Nothing to say here"
Cons: "Flight was postponed 3 hours and lucky for Delta Airlines I was able to get a seat on their flight and not ruin the plans made around the original schedule! I understand when there are weather issues but Spirit was the only “delayed” airline which tells me that there was poor planning on their part for something. No reasons were given by the ticket counter either."
Cons: "Such a joke on the charges for all bags. The seats were so narrow. You look at the initial price and think not to bad then start adding bags and there not cheaper. Not to mention no service."
Cons: "By the time you pay for all the "extras" it's no bargain."
Pros: "Absolutely nothing"
Cons: "The fact you lied about baggage fees, the fact your airline took it upon them selves to chance the standard size and weight of a carry on bag, the fact they charge you a "convience" fee for carrying your own bag. It's actually cheaper to have the airline handle your luggage than for you to carry it. The fact luggage fees seem to randomly change. I was charged 45$ for my bag on the outbound flight but for some reason I was charged 57 for the same bag for the return flight. Had I been made fully aware of all these charges I would have been able to save money while flying on a real airline."
Cons: "Seriously the worst baggage fees in the industry. Never again."
Pros: "Easy process"
Cons: "Sore neck and back after 3.5hour flight"
Pros: "Fast boarding."
Cons: "The airline didn't allow me to print my boarding pass until 8:30 pm on the night before my scheduled 8:38 am departure. At that time the fliglht departure time was delayed. In the morning the flight was delayed again. Fortunately I had a three hour layover in Atlanta, so the delays only meant less of a layover. The seats were uncomfortable. It was a clear day without many clouds, but somehow the pilots on both of my flights weren't able to hold the planes steady during the takeoffs, climbing to altitude, and approaches for landings. The planes were wobbling a lot---like they were no longer on smooth automatic pilot."
Pros: "On time, great crew, what I expected"
Pros: "The plane was new and modern."
Cons: "They charge a fee for everything. The price of the ticket was $245. After all the fees it was closer to $350-400. I won't fly this airline again."
Pros: "We liked their Big Seats, just like first class without the extra services but for only $40."
Cons: "They called zone 1 then followed by zone 2 & 3, what's the point of zones."
Cons: "I get it , it's a cheap flight and you get what you pay for. Seats are a hair above a concrete bench. Over all service felt like I was at a Burger King in a high crime rate naborhood."
Pros: "smooth in air and excellent landing"
Cons: "left 45 minutes AFTER we boarded due to a maintenance issue that needed to be "signed off" on and it took 30+ minutes to get our baggage."
Pros: "Comfortable front row seats as my husband has orthopedic issues. Composed staff dealing with medical emergency on board"
Cons: "It was a pretty bumpy ride, nothing the crew could do about that."
Pros: "First time flying it was a nice smooth process from the time I showed up at the airport to the time I touched down in the next city. Had some nice conversation between two attractive girls with my randomly assigned seat. The staff of flight attendants were very friendly and had great senses of humor."
Cons: "I ended up taking a bag that was larger than the pictured carry on size on my return flight - but on the flight to Chicago I had to pay for bag check (52.00). Had I known I wouldve just used a slightly smaller bag."
Pros: "I liked the friendly service, friendly passengers, filling the plane from the back to the front, (since that's faster), smooth flight, uncrowded waiting area before boarding, the landing in LA was the smoothest jet airplane landing I can remember. Overall, I would use them again."
Cons: "being "nickel and dimed" for every little upgrade, like having to pay for the bag, paying extra for the seat assignment, having to pay for refreshments, it seemed like there wasn't even complementary coffee. I understand that a discount airline has to charge for these things, but it's misleading since Kayak does not account for the bag fee when listing the lowest price fare (as far as I can tell)."
Pros: "I was really nerves flying for the first time on 8/11/16 But the male flight attendant was cracking jokes an made,it enjoyable it was,a,good trip an I would fly again on spirit of the price is right...thank you"
Pros: "We got there, but had to get back on Delta/."
Cons: "Surprised that I had to pay for a seat and much more than expected for carryons and suitcases."
Cons: "Flight was cancelled, due to maintenance issue. spent all day in the airport, flight was scheduled to leave at 10am found out at. 3pm that is was cancelled, staff was very rude, gave us a card to call spirit to rebook. When called the agent couldn't help for an hr due to a system update and asked me to call back in a hr and to keep trying number. No one in the airport was willing or able to help to rebook. Conflicting information was given by the gate, check in desk and the agent on the phone. We received a $7 food voucher after waiting inline 2 hrs for it. And the only options they offered; was to fly to another airport with an 8 hr layover after being in the airport 12 hrs already and catch another flight at 7am. Or to wait two days to get a flight out of ATL. Worst part was the customer service and rude staff. I won't be flying with spirit in the future. Employees stood around instead of helping and had bad attitudes. And no clue as to flight info, or plane status to keep us updated."
Pros: "I loved the fare price. I didn't need to check any bags or pay for a carry on --- if so it might not have been the best price."
Cons: "It seemed like we were the last in line for take off even though we got there before other planes. Take off was a little bumpy."
Pros: "I almost swore off Spirit a few years ago, after terrible customer service and unclean planes etc. This trip has made me reconsider. The crew was the best asset. They were entertaining, so pleasant, joking and engaging with customers all while being professional and efficient. Better service than the "premier" airlines that I have recently flown. We were more inclined to order drinks and food onboard because we were in good spirits and felt that we didn't need to wait until touchdown to allow vacation to begin. Thank you for a great experience"
Pros: "There's nothing to really say that I liked."
Cons: "Seating is TINY. What's up with that? I'm 6' and 200 lbs so I'm not a small stature, but I'm hardly what be considered big, and I could barely fit in the seat. And though it's a short flight, I feel a beverage could be served - free of charge!"
Pros: "Flight price and availability."
Cons: "Late, $50.00 for 1st bag."
Pros: "all enjoyable"
Pros: "Cheap ticket was nice, made up some lost time en route, staff very friendly."
Cons: "Nickel and dimed to death: luggage, seat, soda. Threats that if your carry on is too big it's $65."
Cons: "I paid $100 dollars for my flight to Orlando with Spirit and I paid $100 for my flight home with Delta. Delta didn't charge me $45 dollars to CARRY ON one bag- and they sent my ticket (for free) to my cell phone. Spirit has so many ludicrous hidden fees- $45 to CARRY ON a bag? That is beyond stupid- and $5 if you don't have access to a printer in order to obtain your boarding pass? I'll never fly spirit again."
Pros: "Quick boarding"
Cons: "Boarding plane before mechanical check so sat an extra hour on the plane in very crowded seats. The woman seated next to us was allowed to board very intoxicated and ended up pooping her pants and we had to sit next to her for the entire flight. Unfriendly staff. No smiles, chomping gum, reading safety tips with no eye contact. Expensive non-alcoholic drinks"
Cons: "Had a 3 1/2 hour wait with no compensation whatsoever. Not even complimentary water was offered. Paid more for 2 bags than the price of my ticket. Website not user friendly and actually coercive. I will not ever recommend or use this airline again."
Pros: "Nothing. There was nothing about this flight that made us want to ever use Spirit again."
Cons: "We disliked everything from the painful seating to the language and technical skills of the pilot (dodgey landing and marginal English). But the worst part was the totally unexpected charge of $50.00 for each checked bag and $55. for each carry-on bag (over the one freebie). What a rip-off. It made our tickets so much more expensive that we would have been better off with almost any other carrier. Never again Spirit, your a scam."
Pros: "Cheap, no frills, on time, safe"
Cons: "I'm only 5'9" and my knees were touching the back of the seat in front. Gate and flight staff seemed less professional/polished compared to other airlines."
Cons: "I arrived at the terminal a few minutes early to see my flight already backing out. I wasn't able to get on, so I had to find another airline, which costed me an extra $500 for a one way ticket to dallas. Being in the military, it is vital for me to arrived when I'm needed. I wasn't the only one who missed that flight. There was several people! Not only am I out an extra $500, the money I gave you for the flight is wasted too! I'm disappointed, as was the other members that missed the flight."
Pros: "The ride was good"
Cons: "Being charged for everything, even water Seats not comfortable and narrow"
Pros: "Loved the flight crew"
Pros: "I was very skeptical and concerned that I would "get what you pay for" with Spirit, given some recently publicity about customer satisfaction, but I found it equal to, if not better than, all my other flights with Delta. It helps to go in knowing a few things (like always book your bags with you initial flight booking), but both our flights were on time (or early), no lost luggage and nothing to complain about. I will definitely be flying Spirit again."
Pros: "Got to sit in exit row"
Cons: "Delayed due to frozen poop"
Pros: "On time. Sense of humor of crew. Did not appreciate all xtra charges. Bare fare? Fine, but surprised by xtra fees. Tell it like it is in the first place."
Pros: "Let's be honest... This is the smoke and mirrors that we all feared would happen one day. Competitive fares, not really, and then less than basic services. Someday we'll debate wether a flight attendant is necessary for an evacuation. I'm seeing vending machines following the automated safety briefing. Put your money into the pilots, I say."
Pros: "pilot made such soft landing barely noticeable."
Cons: "I got what I paid for.no wining here."
Cons: "Cancelled due to understaffed No hotel offered had to get my own Stuck in Minneapolis for 2 days Lost out on non refundable hotel in Vegas Lost out on $1500 reservation that was a no show No help whatsoever with anything Ruined my New Years and will never use again"
Pros: "Funny and slightly sarcastic announcements from the crew did a lot to lighten an otherwise routine flight. Some turbulence, handled well by crew and pilot."
Cons: "Crowded, but what coach flight isn't, these days?"
Cons: "Made me throw away suitcase my dead mother got me because it was one inch taller than the personal item requirement. It got on the first flight, but apparently the same plane shrank because my suitcase didn't fit for the return fight according to the rude and highly ghetto staff members. Tried to bribe me for a hundred bucks I didn't have to say it was short enough to fit."
Cons: "Delayed, loud,"
Pros: "The crew was friendly and helpful and we left on time"
Pros: "Same as above"
Cons: "Same as above"
Cons: "You have to sign up for their membership to check in before the flight, and the seat selection is $10 per, the carry-on bag is $45. Better to fly with an airline that's up-front about their fees, or better, just includes them."
Pros: "I didnt eat the food, so I have no comment there. Or the entertainment. I found a kind stewardess who snuck me some water. It was otherwise unavailable for free. I was able to avoid incurring extra fees."
Pros: "At first, I liked the idea of the price, but that was just a cover up for later charges."
Cons: "I didn't like paying for my carry on luggage!!! I also didn't like that my seat didn't recline, I couldn't sleep very well sitting up! I guess I like a few extras. I think I'll go back to regular airlines."
Pros: "Long wait to get out of plane & crew did not offer drinks"
