The one that was suppose to fly out at 12:50 on 1/6/18 delayed until 17:25 (with acceptable communication the first delay) but then later delayed till 00:10 after I’ve already arrived at the airport early for the 17:25 departure. The screens with arrivals and departures posted that Checkin was open but there was no JAL staff to answer questions. Then getting an update “maybe” the 00:10 flight is cancelled? What is maybe cancelled and JALs phone messege still said the flight would depart at 00:10. So I go back to JFK because after all “maybe” isnt a definitive and according to all the direct JAL sources the flight is suppose to depart, I get to JFK the second time only to be given a printout saying the flight is cancelled with no rebooking, and to call for assistance. The same number is been calling for hours trying to get answers. coukdnt reschedules because I’m calling outside of business hours! I spent $200 on cab rides going back and forth to JFK to go nowhere, get no apology, no new flight booking, and no reimbursement for transportation."

An absurd! Flight was rescheduled to today at 10am and obviously took off 1h delayed because AA can't organize simple things to expedite the boarding process."

Cons: "It may be La Guardia Airport that is the one to blame and not AA, but long story short I was on the airplane on the ground in NY for about 5 hours. We had a domino effect of things happen that caused us to be delayed and then cancelled. First a Gate change to a different terminal after boarding was suppose to begin so we had to take a shuttle over and we're still missing 50 passengers, Engine problem that required maintenance, refuel because we were in the plane on the ground waiting for so long, deplane and replane for 10 mins because of a law, on the runway and back to the gate for all these different occasions. When they finally let us off the plane after all these hours it was because of weather (although the skies were blue and the pilot was confident it wouldn't be an issue) they didn't actually cancel the flight until 5pm, my flight was suppose to take off at 9am. They were also required by law to give us free snacks Bc we hadn't eaten all day or had fresh air--these were all chips and soda...in gluten free so I had to starve. AA customer relations said they couldn't compensate because the issue that was documented in their records for my flight cancellation was because of "weather"... my flight couldn't be rescheduled until the following afternoon, making me have to cancel work 2 days in a row and pay for multiple taxis and and extra night of boarding. I will NEVER fly AA or La Guardia again."

They kept delaying the flight, 5 minutes at a time, for 4.5 hours. It flew out of LGA, it was a 9pm flight. The airport food sources were closed, and AA kept us until 1am-- no food, no internet, and, because LGA has terrible cell reception, no phone service. Once we got on the plane, everyone was really hungry, and the plane had no snacks. No entertainment because the TV system was broken. It was just a miserable experience. I regret trying to save $20 by booking that flight. I have had nothing but terrile experiences on American Airlines-- NEVER AGAIN."

I was also seated across from a woman who didn't realize how stupid it was to bring a toddler on a 12 hour flight, and he screamed pretty much the entire time. I couldn't sleep at all and not even headphones drowned it out. That part wasn't really the airline's fault though, and I could see that the flight attendants were asking her several times to get her son to quiet down. I just wish there were regulations on these sorts of situations. Everyone around you suffers when you bring a small child on a very long flight because they will inevitably be bored, cranky and uncomfortable, and because we are confined to our seats, we are forced to suffer through it all. I wish that children under a certain age would not be allowed to board flights over a certain length of time except for special circumstances."

By the time we got to DC I had JUST missed my connecting flight. It was listed nowhere on the departures screen and I realized I had to take an outdoor bus to the other half of the "c" terminal which was very confusing. I got there and had missed the connecting flight and stand in line for 20 min for someone to tell me that I would be stuck in DC overnight. At this point rain had started pouring and they told me that because my mishap was due to weather they would provide no meal or hotel voucher. Weather was not the issue and I was stuck in DC overnight by myself and not compensated for hotels or meals."

Coming back was worse after multiple delays, they cancelled the flight. they put me on a flight for next day with 2 connections which will reach ny almost 20 hrs later, no aplogises, no hotel room. After more calls put me in another United flight later that night which also finally got cancelled. I had to book a new flight with delta and paid $460 on the spot for that. Still awaiting my refund from American for the return leg which was cancelled and left a lady traveling alone stranded at Detroit airport in the night. Apology or compensation -- forget it, you will never get that! Only now if they can refund my cancelled flight..."

I MISSED TWO SHIFTS AT WORK, TWO SHIFTS FOR ME IS $500. NEVER AGAIN."

Those of us who got in line quickly were able to fly standby on the 8:00 flight. I felt the airline did not treat us honestly. I believe the reasons for the delays were known long before the delays were communicated to passengers. (For example, there was a new delay announcement at 8:00 for a flight scheduled to leave at 7:58). Had we been informed earlier, people could have made alternate plans if they wanted to do so (e.g. Rent a car or reschedule for the next day.)"

Pros: "The customer service phone number was impossible to get through on in order to take to someone within 24 hours of my flight in order to make my Special Meals request as I have Celiac's Disease. I was unable to make this selection at booking as when you book through a third party like Expedia, which I did, you cannot access the same internal tools required to make that selection. You can ONLY then call once you have checked in before the flight in order to let the airline know of your Special Meal needs. This is not only a terrible policy as it undercuts those who ARE ultimately still buying tickets to their airline, and that the airline is CHOOSING to sell. It provided me with an extremely subpar experience of the airline but left up to the last minute with doubts about my ability to board a 13 he international flight without the reassurance that I would have ANY meals aboard and no other options should that be the case. Right before my flight departed I was reassured that the information we had requested Expedia relay to the airline internally the day before, who we called when we couldn't get through to the airline, WAS able to convey this Special Meal request and I was going to have food on the flight, so I then did not purchase a bunch of snacks in the airport to have as options. The first meal in, no Special Meal was provided and I had to explain then entire situation all over again. They assured me they would figure it out and get me taken care of. However, no one who assisted me conveyed this to anyone else on the flight and every time food was dispersed, same situation. This was stressful and exhausting and the options provided me were modified to be gluten free, such as an entire plate of fruit for my snack, instead of the protein heavy snack everyone else received, because there truly wasn't extra for that type of dietary restriction. This was stressful and I was very hungry on the flight. One of the attendants got me a few chunks of cheese from first class, but otherwise, it wasn't great. I would advise travelers with Special Meal requests NOT to fly with AirCanada."

I never understand why the back of the plane doesn't board first, other than first class."
Cons: "My flight from NYC to Montreal was significantly delayed because the plane was late getting to NYC. This caused several passengers to miss our connecting flight to Quebec City. Air Canada put us on another flight that didn't depart until over 24 hours later! Despite our efforts, we were not offered any help in getting on an earlier flight, and the airline was unwilling to give us hotel vouchers or rental car vouchers. We paid for a rental car and drove ourselves from Montreal to Quebec City. Both of our returning flights were delayed as well. I understand things happen when traveling, but I expect some type of help/ reimbursement/ or sympathy (at a minimum) from the airline! This was my first and will be my only time flying Air Canada."

Cons: "Flight was delayed, so missed connection. As it turns out, Air Canada was aware all along that we would miss our connection; however, they still had us board. The gate agent should have been conscientious and informed us that the delay was ongoing with our flight being number 22+ on the tarmac to take off, thus guaranteeing our missed connection. They should have rebooked us on another flight from our original destination vs rebooking us upon arrival in Montreal to miss further connecting flights. Very disappointed!!!!! Based on this experience alone, never again will I or my family travel Air Canada."
Pros: "As a professional musician, flying with my viola is one of the most nerve wracking experiences, as if it is forced to be checked due to insufficient room for overhead baggage, it could be completely destroyed. As stated in Air Canada's online policy, passengers traveling with musical instruments that fit as carry on baggage are allowed to change to earlier boarding zones. After approaching a staff member with my viola, I wasn't simply assigned an earlier zone, but rather I was allowed to board first. On this principle alone I will be flying Air Canada again. Thank you!!!"

Cons: "The rebooked flight was also cancelled and the counter staff in Boston were not helpful. We were stranded in Boston and never made it to Toronto. We had to find our own way back to NY Air Canada, meanwhile,was still selling seats at exorbitant prices while thousands of passengers were left stranded I travel several times a month and will ensure that I avoid travel with Air Canada. I will also let met friends and colleagues know not to use Kayak or fly with Air Canada. Because I booked with Kayak, Air Canada would not resolve the problem"
Cons: "Terrible experience. I bought 2 tickets for my parents from New York to Shanghai a month ago. But on the day of flight, Air Canada refused their boarding, stating that they did not have Canada visas, the fight would transfer in Montreal which needs Canada visa. I had never heard about it and it was never mentioned when I booking the tickets. I called the first customer service who was rude and not helpful. Finally, I found out that my parents had to transfer to Toronto, which does not need a visa. But in order to make the change, I had to pay Air Canada extra $1180, which were more expensive than the tickets self. At that time, I had no other choice. I am really upset. I want to warm all Chinese who don't have green card or Canada visa that do not buy tickets from Air Canada. Their customer service told me that they did not have the obligation to list this kind of information on their website. So if you choose Air Canada, you lose your money and deal with all the hassles by yourself. I will never use Air Canada in my whole life again."
Cons: "My flight from NYC to Montreal was delayed 4 hours due to a storm that had passed earlier in the day. That was understandable, however we then sat on the tarmac at the gate for an additional hour because Air Canada's entire computer system suddenly crashed. We finally got to the runway and in the middle of takeoff the pilot slammed on the brakes and aborted the takeoff because he did not reach high enough speed. It was very scary. I was supposed to land in Montreal at 10:20 pm but arrived there at 2:30 am the next morning."
Cons: "We were told our flight was delayed due to weather, and then due to mechanics. The weather was fine in both new york and toronto those days, and other toronto flights left on time. we ended up being delayed 6 hours in the airport, and other flights still went out ahead of us. furthermore, because our flight was delayed, they didn't seem to prepare for the new departure time, and we were held up for almost an hour on the runway before being able to take off, and almost 30 minutes on the runway once we landed too. better planning and customer service needs to be required in these situations."

Cons: "When checking in for our flight, AirCanada prompted me to select which passengers' email addresses should be used to send updates in case of changes, delays, or cancelations. I selected the both of us to receive the updates. However, we never got any notice that our flight was CANCELLED. They cancelled it well in advance that had we known, we wouldn't have gone to the airport but NO - we already arrived and passed through security only to arrive out by the gates and see on the board it was cancelled. Even while passing through customs, the officer said he didn't see it on the flight schedule and then said, "oh it's just listed at a different gate." The way in which AirCanada handled the incident was completely unprofessional and just plain stupid. I for sure will be giving my business to Amtrak or Greyhound the next time I need a trip from NYC to Montreal."

Cons: "Our flight got delayed 7+ hours but we only found out one to two hours at a time. Our return flight was flat out canceled and so we were only able get a flight 4 hours after the original. They did nothing to compensate the passengers at all, claiming it was not their fault; it was due to construction. Construction which has been underway for several weeks and they were well aware. If you know there is going to be construction at the airport perhaps adjust your flight schedule accordingly and don't sell as many flights as when there is no construction?"

Had to leave the airport back through a massive line in customs after my flight was ultimately cancelled. They are doing work on the runways, weather, whatever. Seems some flights could leave especially those that were not Canadian airlines. This has happened on more than one occasion and the airline handles it very poorly with little communication. Will not fly AC again if I have the choice"

Pros: "Im not impressed with air canada. Every time I fly with them there is ALWAYS a delay. I understand that they cant help weather. But when your flight gets delayed over an hour due to their own computer system failing on the way to newyork and to not be compinsated at all its not acceptable. Even on my way home from newyork we were supose to board at 7:55pm and ended up boarding at 9:40pm. they decided to pick and choose people to be boarded on the earlier flight that was right before mine. Not at all fair. I used my whole 30 minutes free wifi (that cuts in and out constantly)before we found out about the delay then I was left with nothing. Not cool when you cant contact anyone. Also REALLY ANNOYING. and the staff are rude if you ask them anything. Then on the plane i wasted 5 bucks trying to buy wifi since you guys dont even have it on your planes for free like delta does. Even then you pay for the worst wifi on the planet where your messages take a half hour to go through and over my whole hour and 10 minute flight i had 3 messages because of your horrible gogo wifi. Waste of money. Overall this whole air canada experience made me want to rip my hair out and stressed me out to the point that I dont want to fly again. I will more then likely not fly with you guys if it can be avoided"

I discovered my flight was cancelled when I randomly walked past the departures board on the way to the bathroom--no announcement was made at the gate. There was no one at the gate. Cons: "Our return flight was delayed due to maintenance issues and then cancelled after 2 hours of waiting. We got re-scheduled for a flight due to leave 5 hours from when the flight was cancelled. We stood in line to get on an earlier flight (there were 3 earlier flights) and got wait listed on one. Thankfully, we got on that flight however, we were in the airport for 8 hours from 8am to 4pm for a 1 1/2 hr flight. Our original flight was supposed to leave around 10am. No flight re-imbursement was issued to us, and we only received lunch vouchers after we asked for them."

Cons: "The flight was delayed 40 and then 50 minutes. No announcements were made, the screen just changed. I'm glad I went up to ask about my connecting flight to Athens; if I had waited and got on the flight, I would have missed my connection. The people at the AirCanada desk were nice, and were able to find us other seats. However, we were promised seats on the 7:30 flight, but instead were put on the 5:45 flight. We asked for the AirCanada person to call back and change our flight, but she said we would have time (at this point, 1 hour and 20 minutes before the flight left), even though I showed her that there was a lot of traffic between LGA and JFK and we probably would not make it. We had to leave LGA, find our bags and wait in a long taxi line to sit in traffic in a cab we had to pay for our of pocket, and could not make the 5:45 flight. I then had to call AirCanada and wait for 15 minutes for the lady to switch us to the 7:30 flight. In all, we also lost 2 full hours in Athens."

Left 20 minutes late due to 14 people stuck in those lines. Airplane sat 1 hour and 15 minutes on tarmac at Laguardia waiting for a gate. We were behind other planes waiting for a gate too. Once out of plane, tough time getting up to the terminal as the terminal was so crowded. Will avoid Air Canada and Laguardia like the plague."
Cons: "I booked a flight for 8pm on Friday 7/29. Night of 7/28, I found out my plans changed and wanted to try and find an earlier flight. I called the help line and waited on hold for 1hour and 45min. The man I spoke with was able to move my flight to 12:50p for $200 change flight fee and $207 ticket difference. I arrive at the airport for this flight only to learn that the man last night moved my flight to the next day, Saturday 7/30. After over an hour of waiting and pleading, the check in attendant was able to get me back on my original flight and return the monies I paid for the seat change. However I had to wait at the airport for 8 hours until my flight, after wasting 2 hours on the phone and another hour at the check-in desk... 11hours total. THEN, they cancelled my 1:30pm return flight and could only get me on an 8pm flight, so another 8 hrs of waiting around. Customer service was terrible throughout. Will never fly this airline again"
Cons: "Cancelled flights, delays, no refund option so I had to wait 15hrs to get to a 1 hrs destination. Then they lost my luggage so my mini weekend away turned into a disaster. I basically wasted $1,000 for a nightmare trip. If they would've just issued a refund in the beginning I would've been fine w the cancelation."

So apparently Air Canada makes up whatever rules that they see fit but doesn't make you aware of them until too late. In Canada, the "International" terminal is not for every country, but for every country EXCEPT the US...I didn't realize that the "Air Canada English" is its own language. Also, they will resell your seat arbitrarily, without any previous warning and have no problem stranding you in a different country, forcing to pay exorbitant change fees. If you try to straighten the situation AFTER the entire fiasco, the only recourse is a random email. I would not only NOT recommend this airline, but I would stay far, far away from using Air Canada!"
Pros: "Our flight was delayed about an hour and a half because of earlier delays in the day and the ground crew and pilot kept us fully informed of the situations as they evolved. Because of the timely updates I did not hear one person complain in my earshot range. Apart from the delay the service was great, as always."

There isn't much space between seats so you're bumping elbows most of the ride, and during a 13 hour flight, that gets old real quick."
