FAQs - booking Germany flights

  • Which airport in Germany offers more connections to other cities?

This highly depends on which part of Germany you plan on touring. For example, if you’re planning a trip to the south of Germany, around Munich and Stuttgart, Munich International Airport has shorter connections. However, if you’re looking for the airport with the most overall connections to other German cities, Frankfurt Airport would be ideal. Here you can get a flight or train to other cities such as Dortmund, Berlin, and Leipzig among others.

  • Which other cities are served by PHL?

Philadelphia International Airport offers connections to multiple domestic and international destinations. From PHL, you can catch a local flight to New York, Washington, Seattle, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto, and Mexico City as well as across the Atlantic to Paris, London, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt among others.

  • Which travel documents do I need to fly from Philadelphia to Germany?

To be allowed into Germany, you will need to produce a passport whose validity extends more than six months after your flight. For example, when flying with Air Canada, you will most likely have your layover in Toronto since that is one of the main hubs for the airline. Similarly, when flying with British Airways, there’s a good chance that the layover will be at London Heathrow Airport (LHR).

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Philadelphia to Germany?

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Germany

  • When flying out of Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), you should book a room at the Philadelphia Airport Marriot. This is one of the best places to stay if you have an early flight since it is located inside the airport, leaving you with an extremely short commute. In addition, they provide a free airport shuttle.
  • To save on costs, consider booking connecting flights instead of one direct flight. In many cases, airlines charge lower prices for connecting flights since they usually have a lower demand compared to direct tickets on the same route.
  • You can get a rental car at most German airports including Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Dusseldorf International Airport (DUS), and Munich International Airport (MUC). However, it is recommended that you reserve the rental beforehand so that they can have it ready as soon as you land.
  • PHL Airport is a hub for American Airlines. You should therefore consider booking your flights to Germany with them as they offer more flight options than any other airline, and you can also get access to one of the four American Airlines Admirals Clubs Lounges at the airport.
  • If you have reduced mobility, you can take advantage of the FraCareServices GmbH, at any German airport, which provides support to disabled passengers. The service can be requested by contacting your airline at least 48 hours before the flight.

My husband and I recently had an unfortunate experience with Lufthansa. At the Philadelphia International airport, the ground staff refused to board us because we didn’t have a current visa stamped on our passports for Frankfurt. We completely understand that this was our mistake. we should have double-checked the visa requirements before our trip. However, the issue that upset us most was how the situation was handled by the staff. They told us they would mark it as “boarding denied due to visa issue”, but instead they recorded it as “no show”. Because of that incorrect entry, our return flight was automatically cancelled as well, which caused additional stress and expense. Mistakes can happen, but we expected more transparency and accuracy from a reputed airline like Lufthansa. It would have made a big difference if the staff had been more careful and considerate in documenting the situation correctly.

We were in business class. the angled seats in that class do not have a real window view & the placement of the controls are bad. But we knew that. But the food options were mediocre. The taste was fine, but the size was for a child. It’s just really feels like United is skimping on everything. Even when we were in the Polaris lounge they did not have diet sodas. They said they were out no Coke zero no Diet Coke, etc. I do not think the portion of nuts they serve on the plane could get any smaller. Really a minimal service and offer for what you’re paying for in business.

Everything was good, except the seats in economy were so close together, you could barely get out when the seat in front of your was reclined. If the airlines keep jamming in more and more seats, it will become intolerable. I will look for another airline that considers customer comfort and does not keep adding more rows of seats for more profit.

Great service on board. Boarding a bit slow due to process. Food was pretty average.

Flight was delayed 3 hours. No food and drink vouchers was provided. They offered a mini pretzel bag and water .

Flight was delayed and missed my connection Lufthansa didn’t respond.

A little bit more leg room in premium economy. I am 6’4”.

online check in was not available so i had to get to airport extra early. The flight was delayed and my luggage was lost. I had an argument with the person behind me who wanted to keep her bag on the floor and not allow my seat to recline on a 9hr plus flight. So overall, lots and lots of areas for improvement.

The flight was operated by Lufthansa. You can't expect much from them anymore. They have a talent in getting something wrong.

The food was the worst I’ve had on any flight I’ve ever been on.

Delays to take off and to leave the plane after landing added a lot of time to this flight.

The Phildalphia to Allentown portion was a BUS, not a plane. All was as expected.

Excellent - explanations were clear staff was nice and flight was comfortable

Airport in MXP is crazy. Get there at least 2 hours before flight.

Flight was delayed not sure why no explanation given and no apologies either. Otherwise the flight was fine

Did not get the seat I selected and paid for.

The flight was canceled 3 hours after original take off time

Plane was delayed for 6 hours, at first by weather, which is understandable, but was further delayed with NO given reason for 2 1/2 hours more. We had no clue when we were going to depart actually until they opened the ramp. VERY POOR to ZERO COMMUNICATION!!!

Flight was delayed and after being in the airport for like seven hours, it was canceled.

Flight delays numerous times. Everytime we would get close to boarding it would be delayed again. Strung along the entire time.

Experience was great overall. However, the connection time between my flights (1hr 15 mins) was too short. We had to get through security check and US immigration in that time, and I made it to the gate just as they were announcing it was about to close. Flights with such a short connection time should maybe not be offered for purchase, or an advance alert would be helpful. Other than that the in-flight experience was excellent, especially the food. Many thanks!

Incredible service. Incredible entertainment. I felt like they just kept serving us something new avery hour. My wife and I both had a joyous flight.

Our first flight from Venice to Dublin was delayed due to very bad weather and when we did arrive we were ushered out of the secure area to collect our luggage then told we could not Demeter as the US Customs team closed at 4pm. Thus we were stuck in Dublin for one night with hundreds of passengers scrambling for information and little help from the local staff. Many passengers were left without accommodation and told to find something on their own. We were also told we would get contacted with rebooking details and did not, requiring us to make those arrangements ourselves, in some cases at a very high out of pocket cost. Many passengers swore they would never fly on Aer Lingus again.

Fast and sensible boarding was absolutely amazing. But extortionate wifi and seats that barely moved, making me unable to sleep, didn't do a lot of favors.

I liked the front row seats. A lot of leg room. The check-in window needs to be longer

Conveyer belt at the check in area stopped working and check in process was significantly slowed down.

Terrible. So upset either way this flight. We scrambled to make it as it was delayed an hour.

Too hot. Asked for an extra glass of water and was ignored. Asked to sit in empty seats that were open because it was so hot and crowded and was denied and the seats were empty the entire flight

Terrible leg room - I’m 5’3” and my knees were touching the seat in front of me. When the person sitting in front of me leaned back, there was about 15 inches of space between my head and the TV screen which made it awkward to view movies. Last year they had decent food, but this year the only tasty item on the trip was dessert.

The flight was delayed leaving Philadelphia due to “catering” and consequently arrived in Dublin some 75 minutes later than scheduled. Consequently this caused me to miss my connecting flight to Glasgow and I had to spend the night in Dublin.

Trip was smooth, good drew, average meal, almost cold coffee. Excellent landing. Did not enjoy going down the stairs, walking to the gate, walking up the stairs, going a long walk to the exchange gate, and going down the stairs again to be bussed all the way where we originally landed to take our next flight! Over all an average experience. Thank you.

I booked extra leg room, due to seat neighbor i now consider extra shoulder and arm room as well. Seems like the seats shrink in width now The crew was very friendly and professional ( 100%). Food was good not great, breakfast was bad, a dry slice of bread would have been better. Facilities clean.

love the crews and my only problem was the delay at Frankfurt was very bad. I have travelled with Lufthansa for over 30 years now and this was cost me some planned business appointment

The flight delay made the connection a bit tight but that's outside the flight crew's control.

We just made it to our connecting flight. A long, long speed walk!

We didn't get the coffee with breakfast in the morning.. 30 mins lazer I asked flight attendant why don't we get coffee now at least.. after the breakfast..she said that captain announced possible turbulences fee minutes ago, which didn't ecplain why we didn't get it with the breakfast..breakfast was very poor btw..just little pastry which you can eat in 4 little bites. Turbulences fortunately didn't even happen.. but we didn't get that more than necessary coffee in the morning after the night flight with very poor sleep.. They just served breakfast 1 hour afzer we took off..at like 11 PM.. that doesn't make sense at all.. Also, flight attendants weren't very nice..they looked like they're not happy with their job.. :/

Lufthansa still has a good level of quality compared to US airlines, especially with respect to (1) food quality - actually tasty, (2) good French red wine - free, (3) good movie selection. Also my ticket price includes 1 free check-in luggage, while some other budget airlines sneak in an extra $150 for a checkin.

We were moved twice on flights to the point we weren’t even on Lufthansa anymore. We had to fly united. Lost paid extra leg room twice. To top it all off we’re forced to pay $375 and $275, respectively for you luggage that was considered sports luggage. We were told it would be Lufthansa fares l, from the united desk, AND WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A LUFTHANSA FLIGHT! I’ll be calling once my trip is over on October 7th to all airlines and Kayak. This was ridiculous!

Everything went smoothly and the staff was very kind. I’m glad I purchased the extra leg room for my long flight; it was totally worth it. We were served 2 meals for a 9 hour flight which I was not expecting and they were very tasty. I appreciated them being vegetarian. Customs line in Munich was long; I had a choice to have a 1 hr 40 min layover or 2 hr 40 min layover; I took the longer layover which I was thankful for because my flight was delayed 30 minutes and there’s a good chance I would have missed my connecting flight. This was my very first international flight and I would fly Discover again without hesitation. Thank you for taking good care of me!

I liked everything BUT the temperature. It was freezing and now I am sick.

Airlines have to stop assuming passengers bring entertainment. Provide it like you used to in business class and above!! N

I don't know about the others but the flight attendant that took care of us had the absolute wrong approach "how do we dare asking for water or anything else for that matter"

Flying on the Boeing 787 from Seattle to London was everything that I expected. Every thing was great.

Not my definition of first class. No leg room and barely any recline. The food was good. The crew was great. The comfort for the price I paid for London to Cairo was highway robbery. The Wi-Fi didn't work for me either.

Seat pitch is not enough to eat comfortably. When seat in front is reclined, your screen comes closer to your face. Ryanair seats are actually more comfortable.

The leg from Portland to Heathrow was great for a business class ticket. The BA leg from Heathrow to Lisbon was terrible. Basically coach seating with an empty seat between you and next passenger. Absolutely no leg room. Should not have been charged for business class and it was a 3 hour flight.

The flat beds. Other than that, the place was not clean.

Moved me away from my family and refused to fix it.

I have always been pleased with their service. Would not change a thing

Seating and food was the worst we have experienced in 35 years of traveling for both personal and busines .
