Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "I was comfy on Philly to Venice flight, no one was sitting next to me"
Cons: "Staff at Philadelphia was rude when I asked for upgrade options the desk attendant told me " you should have booked 1st class from the beginning" in a rude and belittling demeanor."
Cons: "No food or entertainment offered at all - for a 5-1/2 hour flight. Seats uncomfortable. I don't like how it feels like you're nickle and diming us - charging for every little thing, including what seat you sit in."
Pros: "It was nice that plane wasn't full so I had an empty seat next to me. Crew was nice."
Cons: "AA trying to sell seat "upgrades" during online checking."
Cons: "Food was not good at all."
Pros: "Good connection"
Pros: "The crew was professional"
Cons: "It was not British airline but was contracted to American airline. It lacked class."
Pros: "The person at the luggage area, she gave me the ticket, very nice and polite the only professional person."
Cons: "Didn't let me take my hand luggage, small that complies with the size and told me only at gate, I said I had things that could brake and showed no concern and they would send it to my final distinction instead giving it to me in the end of first flight...I've been traveling around the world and the disrespect for customers and poor service of most of US carrier is amazing... some African companies are much better. on the second flight, almost two hours delay, the plane from philly to Lisbon, old, just s few tv screens, exactly like the North Korean airways..., bad food, my tray stayed with me the whole fly, flight attendant not very professional with no concern for customers and job."
Pros: "The crew was very kind and we had a safe trip in general"
Cons: "2 hours of delay to take the airplane in Orlando and they changed the flight to Charlotte when it was planned it would go to Philadelphia but it was not a big deal to me."
Pros: "Flight attendants were ok, performed duties as expected."
Cons: "AA's seats are sooooooo close together, that there is nowhere near enough room to stretch or raise legs. AA's seats are the most uncomfortable (in regard to space and lumbar support) of the three major airlines."
Pros: "Entertainment and meals"
Cons: "Crew could of been friendlier"
Pros: "an extraordinarily long and stressful journey that sgould have taken 15 hours but took 27.. I may stop using American Airlines"
Pros: "On time departure"
Cons: "Why do not they serve FREE water????"
Pros: "it was ok"
Cons: "I paid extra for a window seat but had to sit in different spot. Set in isle seat"
Cons: "You overbooked the flight"
Pros: "Pilot did good job in tricky conditions at landing."
Cons: "Wish food were served."
Cons: "No priority boarding for people with babies and toddlers"
Pros: "My flight had a really tight connection at London Heathrow. Then my flight from Vienna arrived 10 minutes late which made it even worse. A very nice BA agent met me as I deplaned at London Heathrow and ran with me thru Terminal 3. Helped me clear security with a priority card and ran to my gate with 2 minutes to spare. The women was really nice and if it was not for her I am sure I would not have made my connection. I don't know if there is anyway to track her down and thank her but I would like to do so. The flight attendants were OK but not excessively helpful."
Cons: "Having to reclear security. I understand the necessity though. The touch screens for the inflight entertainment did not work well. Food was Mediocre at best."
Pros: "The options for entertainment were great."
Cons: "The space and seats were uncomfortable. I received errors when trying to access gogoinflight on my tablet, even when I had the most updated app. Therefore I was unable to use the app during my flight to Philadelphia. Also, when checking in from our original departure location, MCO, we were not provided our boarding pass or luggage tags for our final destination, Barcelona, only to our connecting flight, Philadelphia. The connecting flight was delayed in MCO for an 1 hour and a half, after we have boarded the plane. So we waited in the plane for the whole hour and half while a maintenance issue was being resolved. The delay almost cost us to be late for our final flight to Barcelona. Since we were not given our boarding passes for PHL to BCL it caused confusion when trying to board our plane in PHL to Barcelona, and also caused for our baggage to not arrive with the flight. After landing, we spent an additional 2 hours at the Airport going through customs, and waiting on line for the lost and found desk for baggage in Barcelona. The lost and found desk had three agents available to assist, however we can only talk to one which was designated specifically for American Airlines. This caused a very long wait time of 1 hour. We were advised the bags stayed in Phildelaphia since they did not have the additional luggage tags, and will not arrive till the next day. Overall the experience within the Airport kiosks, service desks, and baggage check in' s was not a pleasant experience. I believe many of these issues could have been avoided if the American Airlines agents were more knowledgeable and attentive."
Pros: "Crew and promptness. Roomie seat."
Cons: "No cellphone charger. No movie screen at the seat."
Cons: "It's AA, never again"
Pros: "Left on time from LAX"
Cons: "We booked for British Airways since we have good experience with them before but this is "operated by American Airlines" - not sure why they just don't say American Airlines when booking. It's deceiving!!!"
Pros: "GSP easy to navigate- easy option for WNC travelers"
Cons: "I paid for a non-stop from Seattle to Philadelphia. they cancelled it and only had options that dragged out the trip, caused an extra day of lost work. There was no attempt or offer to ameliorate the inconvenience, or refund the cost -- even an upgrade would have been appreciated. just here's what we have, take it or leave it. I am through with American"
Cons: "Flight was cancelled. Disaster"
Cons: "My flight was pushed back and I was never notified and I had to reschedule my flight completely from Vegas to Frankfurt"
Cons: "Baggage was lost!!!!!"
Pros: "It was fine"
Cons: "It was a full flight, but I cannot complain"
Pros: "The entertainment was free on our flight and that was very nice. Watch a lot of movies iv been wanting to watch. Pilots flew the plane very well."
Pros: "Flight on time."
Cons: "Paying extra money to pick seats before 24 hours check in. I have 2 children and cannot risk them sitting separated from their parents. I'm sure other travelers would not want a 6 year old aline next to them either."
Pros: "Boarding was good, Good flight , good service , plane was small for the distance with limited space for movement ,"
Pros: "Quick boarding and on time departure"
Pros: "Staff was pretty good, and while the food wasn't incredible, it wasn't bad."
Cons: "I hold the personal opinion that the headrests on transatlantic seats should be the sort that prevent one's head from falling to the side. It seemed like this was a domestic plane assigned to an international route."
Pros: "great service from flight attendance"
Pros: "Entertainment options were outstanding , 4 movies and 10 hour flight is quicker than quick."
Cons: "Nothing on the flight. Could not pre-board on line, so instead of a zone 2 loading sequence we got zone 4. as a person who flies to Europe 4-5 times a year I do not enjoy getting on a plane in the Zone 4-5 sequencing."
Pros: "The crew was kind and courteous. Highly professional and helpful."
Cons: "Aside from flying through a huge storm which is out of anyone's control and arriving 20 minutes early only to have to sit on the plan as the terminal was occupied, my trip was great."
Cons: "I booked the flight specifically because it was advertised and booked on British Airways, which is considered a nice international airline to fly. The flight was swaped to American Airlines, and I was put on an international flight that was archaic, I would have been better off flying a prop plane from the 1970's."
Cons: "the flight did not have charging areas on the plane for phones for the regular seating. also, the seating was much tighter and our arm rest was not functioning. On all the planes going to our destination the accommodations were much different."
Cons: "I had booked an international flight with British Airways and it ended up being American Airlines. There was no notification of this change and I was not happy. I found AA to be subpar. The plane itself didn't have individual screens and my view was obstructed by other seats. The food was terrible and I got sick later, possibly from the bad airline food. Overall I got to my destination on time, but unhappy as I had chosen an airline and was forced to use another."
Pros: "Our extra leg room seating was fantastic. The crew was delightful."
Cons: "The entertainment was just okay."
Pros: "We were very happy with the crew. They were very helpful and attentive throughout. One of the flight crew members even found me at customs to return a toy we had inadvertently left that belonged to my 13 month old. She certainly did not have to do that, so we are very thankful. Unfortunately, I did not catch her name."
Cons: "Unlike other airlines we have traveled that give priority to people traveling with children, American Airlines does not. That would be something that would be helpful for traveling parents. Allowing people with children to board first and get off the plane first would make things better for all passengers. Planes are also outdated. We have been traveling with other airlines that have individual screens. Much easier for people to travel on long flights when they have individual entertainment."
Cons: "In seat entertainment"
Cons: "Flight was cancelled due to maintenance issues. I got home at 1 am instead of 10 pm."
Pros: "generally on time"
Pros: "Nothing but delays, cancellations, and rude people"
Pros: "We didn't crash."
Cons: "The crew was just downright rude. Condescending rude and full of tude. Also they are all 100 years old and one lady was so fat she could barely fit in the aisle. Come on AA...really you can't do better than this?? Seats were uncomfortable as can be and food weas slightly worse than average airplane food. funny thing is I always fly delta and delta partners but this time I thought I would go the cheaper route. Never again will I fly American anything anywhere. Very disappointed. There is nothing positive to say about anything except the fact that we didn't crash. We were also delayed 2 hours and sitting on the Tarmac. Horrid experience."
Pros: "The entire crew pre-boarding and in flight were extremely friendly and nice and seemed to have a good raport with each other. The last time I flew, I took Frontier from LGA to Denver and the staff on Frontier's flight were very rude and dismissive towards passengers. It was so refreshing to fly American Airlines and be greeted with warmth and professionalism by the staff!"
Cons: "The only downside to the flight was the lack of music/tv."
Pros: "The crew was very nice"
Cons: "The baggage check in process was unorganized and slow. You need better signage and people that can give clear direction."
Cons: "service and help assistance"
Pros: "smooth flight, easy check in, nice service, hassle free"
Cons: "no recliners, long wait from landing to gate"
Pros: "Left on time, got in on time"
Pros: "Only if they had little tv's this would be the cheapest best plane ride ever"
Cons: "That you had to but food and no entertainment that would be better"
Cons: "Attractive fairs then they charge on your check in. Permitted check in bag is very small. So I would prefer other flight next time onwards and suggest the same."
Cons: "They have hidden fees that Kayak is not telling you when you buy their tickets. They chrged me $57 just for small carryon bag and then you have to pay for the seat separately to board the plane. What is your ticket for? Reason to get to airpirt and ready yourself to pay what ever they ask. One has to pay additional fees to get boarding pass....."
Cons: "Agendas were extremely rude and disrespectful. I had a family issue causing me to drive to my destination, and kept my flight so I could fly home. When I went to check in online, there was no itinerary to be found. I called, and they said since I was a "no show", it was cancelled and I could not be reimbursed. I offered to use it as credit and get a new flight, paying the difference. This request was declined. The agents on the phone were very rude. Spirit nickel and dimes you, has no available seats, doesn't feed you, and the planes are small. I will never attempt to take this airline again."
Pros: "Compared to Frontier I liked the smooth moving lines for bag check ins, and a ground person helping folks backed up on flights that were boarding and in a panic. The flight crew was nice."
Cons: "It's hard when we can't get a beverage or snack anymore on a plane."
Pros: "The only thing I enjoyed was the economy class seating which gave a little more leg room, however the seats don't recline."
Cons: "I flew from Philly to Las Vegas and then Las Vegas to Atlanta to Philly on the way back. Each time the flights were delayed due to the previous connecting flights inability to be on time. At the airport the gate staff did not give updates for the airline departure. Once aboard the aircraft, the flight crew were loudly carrying on for the entire flight giving little regard for those around them especially since one flight was a redeye flight. I will not be flying this airline again."
Pros: "Flight was on time, no trouble finding overhead storage for my bag."
Cons: "Leg room was terrible. No complimentry drinks, tiny tray table."
Pros: "I am puzzled about how can I get the receipt of the tickets. would you please tell me by email? My email is firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you very much!"
Pros: "I didn't like anything."
Cons: "There was delays both ways. No room to move. Couldn't sleep on the way home. Food and water had to be purchased."
Cons: "My flight to Philadelphia due to "weather." No notice, no effort to place us on another flight. Typical Spirit which is why I try to avoid flying with them whenevet possible. My mistake."
Pros: "Sprit ground crew distroyed my luggage"
Pros: "The flight and crew were good! Boarding was easy."
Cons: "The add ons for carry on luggage and seating. I had to pay $45 each for carry ons and $10 a seat to choose my seats so my wife and I could sit together! Terrible"
Pros: "It was the cheapest"
Cons: "Almost everything."
Pros: "I liked that the price of the flight was inexpensive."
Cons: "The crew on the flight was extremely unprofessional, suggesting that we don't "hurt one another" when we are free to take other open seats. Also, the seriousness of the crew and the responsible feeling that I normally get from a flight crew was not there. The pilot was good. But the attendants were telling " jokes". An airplane is not a comedy club. I like to feel safe, and that the staff is capable in the event of an emergency. Also, the plane seemed dirty with advertisements inside the cabin for a specific hotel in Vegas. This gave the plane a very ghetto feeling."
Pros: "Nothing. Absolutely nothing."
Cons: "Delayed flight in hour-long intervals over four hours, only to finally cancel at 1 am with no explanation. Weather was fine, no mechanical complications. We were left stranded at O'Hare at 2 am...next flight wasn't until 9 pm the NEXT night. Terribly rude attendants. Awful, pitiful excuse for an airline. This happened once before (only other time we tried to fly with Spirit, except the next flight was ONE WEEK later). Just awful. No other words for this terrible airline and laughable service."
Pros: "Everyone had a good attitude."
Cons: "They didn't let a guy move to a different seat even though the plane was less than 1/2 full."
Pros: "The flight was nice and smooth"
Cons: "You have to pay for everything additionally even water"
Cons: "The flight from St. Thomas to Ft. Lauderdale was delayed by 4 hours. The St. Thomas desk crew tried their best, but clearly had no training in this sort of thing - they were in complete disarray. Because our connecting flights would be missed, they promised us food and hotel vouchers for Ft. Lauderdale - then these never materialized. Then they promised we could pick them up right when we got off the plane in Ft. Lauderdale. When we arrived, staff just shrugged and told us to go to the ticket counter and see what we could get. There we were told to wait in a line that took over an hour to get through; we rebelled and insisted on getting the vouchers immediately. It still took half an hour, we finally got them at midnight. The folks who waited in line never did get hotel vouchers - the airline had 'run out of them' - meaning they had run out of vouchers at the preferential rate they'd negotiated, and were unwilling to pay extra for these beleagured passengers. So those passengers stayed in the airport all night, furious over empty promises and terrible customer service."
Cons: "I found out my flight was delayed two hours but decided to go to the airport at the appropriate time anyway. It was just a girls weekend so I wasn't in any major rush to get there. As my shuttle is taking me to the airport, I look again to find that my flight has officially went from taking off at 9:14pm to taking off at 12:12pm. When I got to the airport, it was 7pm so I would have to wait for 5 hours. I went to the Spirit counter and asked what time my flight was leaving. The man at the counter says "9:15" so I responded with "okay great so there's no delay then??" He said "yeah there's just a short delay you won't even know" I showed him my phone and asked is 12:12am the time were supposed to leave? And he said "yes". Well, then I was fuming because this customer "support" person completely lied to me. Another quite rude lady said there was absolutely nothing they could do for me and shooed me away. I was also told it was because their technology wasn't reaching flight control. I went to my gate anyway and noticed that the spirit section was completely packed-I'm assuming this issue backed up many flights. After an hour of waiting, they announced that the delay may be even longer. I immediately left because at that point I wouldn't get into my destination until 4am which wasn't worth my short visit to where I was going. Later on in the night, I looked at my phone to see what happened-it ended up being cancelled!!!! What a joke! Bad customer service, bad fees, bad way of handling their flight situations!!! Never again."
Cons: "The flight was cancelled well before the first snow flake feel in Philadelphia. The storm was predicted to start after our arrival. But as was the case of all air lines they shut down in advance. We were not scheduled for another flight."
Cons: "Spirit should be associated with TSA Pre-check...the lines at both PHL and ATL were long and slow moving"
Pros: "The Agent was very accommodating and pleasant. Thumbs up!!"
Cons: "The fees for luggage, toooooooo costly. The carryone should be free and pay for the check in bags. I was not a happy camper."
Pros: "Cheap price"
Cons: "Extremely small seat space"
Cons: "Horrible. You will get charged even if you blink. Seats doesn't recline. Want some water? Pay for it. While other flights allow 50lbs in your checked bag, they only give you 50lb. You pay if you check in at the airport. WHAT? You pay for a CARRY ON."
Cons: "dealing with spirit feels like getting robbed. Extremely dissatisfied."
Cons: "This may not be a totally accurate review for this specific flight, since it never happened because it was CANCELLED. Spirit Airlines in general is a horrible airline company to deal with. Constant delays, TERRIBLE customer service, absolutely NO refund policy, and ridiculous rebooking times. My flight was cancelled due to a huge winter storm, and Spirit said they couldn't book me til FOUR days after my original fly-out date. I have never had a good experience with Spirit - cramped seating and never have been on a Spirit flight that left on time. I will never be flying with this company again."
Pros: "My flight was cancelled due to "weather" even though every other airline was flying to the same destination. Then, after waiting an hour and a half for customer service and another 45 minutes of arguing, I finally got a refund on my flight and a $7 voucher for food which can only be used in the next 48 hours. It was a miserable experience."
Pros: "Not one thing"
Cons: "The. People that work here are horrible. Rude and very unhelpful. We will never use them again.."
Pros: "was cheaper than the other flights"
Cons: "I had almost no leg room. was far more difficult to get my ticket compared to other airlines. I know that it is a n economy airline and that Spirits goal is to make the flight as cheap as possible, but for how uncomfortable and annoying the trip was for me I would much rather spend the extra money on a better flight."
Pros: "We did not crash"
Cons: "Seats were cramped and uncomfortable; flight delayed so long I missed my time for rental car....had to get another from adifferent company."
Cons: "Spirit is the worst airline. They claim to be affordable, but charge for basic flight accessories. A carry-on costs $55, and a checked bag costs $52. You can't even get free water in-flight."
Cons: "I missed my flight. Spirit cancelled my entire ticket because of that. The round trip was cancelled. Nonsense. I lost all my money. I had to book another ticket."
Pros: "Spirit Airlines is a complete nightmare"
Pros: "-In general with Spirit you know what you're getting. A cheap flight with only the bare bone necessities to get you where you're going. Generally I'm okay with this approach to save a buck or two but this experience tipped me over the edge of never flying Spirit again."
Cons: "To paint a picture before I get into details, public transit broke down so there was a huge rush of passengers for this flight and others, all leaving around the same time of night as the last round of flights from the airport. -The man at the counter said he could not print our boarding passes because the flight was already boarding as it was 30 minutes before doors closed. -We used the terminal and got an error message saying to see someone at the counter, so we went back and talked to another lady at the Spirit counter. She printed our tickets and was even able to check in my last minute checked bag. -No one at Spirit would walk us through security, which I guess is understandable (though a common courtesy on other airlines) when the security line was so long. -By this time the security line was so long after we had fumbled around for 10 extra minutes with the first man at the Spirit counter that we decided to give up. We later found out that they held the doors for 15 minutes because of the long lines at security, information which no one at Spirit ever volunteered for us, which would've allowed us to get on the plane. -There were 3 or 4 other passengers very upset at the counter employees not willing to print their boarding passes for them who could have also made the plane. -We had to get a flight out the next morning to make our international flight from BWI, so we wanted to go get the checked bag back from Spirit. This was by far the best part of the trip, as the woman at baggage was able to confirm my bag had made it on the flight and would be landing in Philadelphia. -To confirm the bag landed and we would be able to pick it up at 9am when our flight landed the next morning, we called the Spirit office at the Philly airport. The woman said to call back at 12:30-12:45 and she would let us know if she had the bag. This was important for us, because if my bag wasn't there I could just pack another for our international trip and deal with finding the lost bag at a later time. -We called 8 times between 12:30 and 1:30 with no response. We also left several voicemails. -At 5am on our way back to O'Hare we were again unable to get ahold of anyone at Spirit in Philadelphia. While boarding our flight to Philly we finally got a hold of someone who said they would go check the office and let us know within 10 minutes. Obviously too late for me to pack another bag, but at least we could plan over the next several hours. Never got a call back, and only received voice mail after attempting contact again several times as our plane prepared for takeoff. -Landed in Philly and what do you know, the Spirit office is closed for most hours of the day, only operating around their scheduled flights. The info. employee at the airport wished us good luck in a hopeless tone. After 45 minutes of panic calling every Spirit phone number we could find, we finally got someone on the phone to come get my bag out of the locked office."
Pros: "Flight was on time and got to destination early. First time flying spirit nothing went wrong."
Cons: "Since not being able to even get a free dink of water is disappointing."
Cons: "Flight was cancelled and they did nothing to help me get another flight. They tried pushing me back 4 days and said I was taking the risk booking with them. I ended up having to scramble to find a new flight and paying a lot more money. I was not happy."
Cons: "nickel and diming everything, seats did not go back, could not even read a magazine sue the tiny tray tables. Will never fly Spirit ever again, Flights crew was lovely."
Pros: "I made it to Vegas and back to Philadelphia safely."
Pros: "Plane itself was fine. Flight standard."
Cons: "Delays not communicated, incorrect signage at gate, boarding process general scrum."
Pros: "Getting to Philadelphia safe despite broken overhead compartment handles and a seat stuck in a semi-reclined position."
Cons: "Staff members don't greet you, respond to greetings, act or dress in a professional manner and don't seem to care about the bad customer service they openly provide. The flights are ALWAYS delayed and no one gives explanations or apologizes ( just for the sake of good customer service ) for it."
Pros: "I loved that it was cheap and that everything was super punctual. In fact, our flights arrived early!"
Cons: "Having to pay for my bags and stuff ahead of time was stressful, and also I wasn't sure how much my checked luggage weighed, which was also stressful. If I'm going to have to pay for a checked bag no matter what, it would be great to have fewer restrictions on it!"
Pros: "The low initial cost of the flight."
Cons: "The flight was announced cancelled after it was supposed to take off. Afterward the only Spirit employee just handed me a number to call. When I dialed it, it told me I should just use the online services, because the calling wait was incredibly long. When I tried to go online, it said I wasn't a member on the flight that my confirmation code was tied to. I finally waited on the phone, just to cancel my flight. Seems like they only fly a certain percentage of their flights in order to try and scam the rest of the customers into losing their money in cancelled flights..."
Pros: "Rest is fine"
Cons: "No Complimentary Food (no water) is really worst"
Pros: "Nothing was good about this airline."
Cons: "Seats are too small, crew was mediocre and flights both ways were late; even though they said they were on time. Will not fly with them again."
Cons: "E ticket didn't work after standing for 1 hour in security. This caused us to have to run around airport to our flight which was delayed 15 min after it was supposed to board. The plane was filthy. When I opened the tray table crushed chips that were in there spilled all over me. Regardless of the price I will never fly spirit airlines."
