Then when 7pm came and went we had to continually ask at the counter, because no information was provided.. Kept being told just a few minutes until boarding and then when it was almost time to board, we couldn't because the flying crew was delayed going through security. SERIOUSLY.. wouldn't you think that after all the delays, the crew would have already been ready to board as soon as possible. For most of the passengers our delayed caused us to be at the airport for at least 8 hrs. Since they ask to check in at least 3 hrs. prior to departing... You tell me if $12 voucher is enough to hold off for 8 hrs. When a soft drink and a sandwich was at least $15.. and that was for the cheap ones. This was my first time flying Avianca and will be my last. At least AMERICAN AIRLINES gives flight vouchers even if they are only 2 hrs delayed. A $12 voucher is a JOKE.. and there were 3 of us in my family. And they acted as if they were giving you a free flight."

Cons: "My passport was not due to expire for the NEXT 4 months AFTER my come back day The lady from Avianca didn't let me board due to my passport expiring 4 months after my return day. I had to pay for a 24 hours expedite / rush passport. ALSO, once I got my new passport (17 hours later) I was told that I had to pay $170 penalty for moving my departure day and $680 because I had to adjust to the new ticket price. At that point I decide to buy a new ticket with a different airline. AVIANCA SUCKS!!! They are NOT very accommodating at all. Will not recommend this agency and I WILL NEVER ever again will use their service."

This has interfered with other travel plans and tickets that have already been purchased once I reached my final destination of Bogota, Columbia. I need to reach Quito, Ecuador by March 21st and I'm now back in San Francisco extremely disappointed."

This was a special once-in-a-lifetime trip with friends. Not likely that we will make another attempt to fly to Quito or anywhere else Copa flies, so we have a 100% loss."

The attendant at the counter told me there was nothing he could do and that I needed to call Copa’s reservation number, which he couldn’t even give me he said I needed to look it up myself. Then before I had even called the reservation line he said he was closing the ticket counter and wouldn’t be back until 9:30. I called the reservation line who said that there was nothing they could do because my flight hadn’t even left yet and that I needed to talk to the attendant who had already left. I then waiting over 2 hours for the ticket counter to reopen only to be told that all of my flights through Copa had been cancelled and that I would need to pay almost $2000 just to get on different flights. I ended up having to use a completely different airline and spend an additional $1000 because Copa would not help and was extremely rude. This was the first time I would have flown Copa and I will never fly with them again."

It entailed multiple phone calls and many trips to and from the airport before we got our surf boards. The COPA baggage people kept telling us they would call with updates as to when the board bag was going to arrive but they never did. We had to stay in an expensive hotel for three days in Panama City, which we didn't plan to stay in the city at all."

There's more, but, I don't want this to be another chapter of 'War and Peace'."

Maybe they good offer each passenger a choice some type of goodie like a mint or a chocolate that says "please enjoy this while you wait for others to exit the plane"."

I think that this was because of issues with the website, apparently due to IT system communication between American Airlines and Cathay Pacific.......on all six flights. On the transfer in San Francisco, Customs was closed when we arrived in San Francisco and we had to haul all of our baggage from one terminal to the other. There was no direction on how to handle this issue of Customs being closed while on the flight to San Francisco. I had to explain the issue of to the CP customer service crew in SF. The CP desk and they had never heard of it. American Airlines was equally poorly trained. I will also say that while at the CP customer service, there were three young adult males that we're not busy at the time and the watched us unload the baggage carts onto the scales and conveyor and then reloaded on to the carts to push to the AA terminal. We handled the bags two additional times because the CP staff did not know what to do and how to handle it. Other passengers were confused as well."

And if it didn’t to hope it can on another flight before I hopefully actually get on a flight for Rio. Nobody has comped me for losing a day in Rio and for my hotel room. And this has been the worst flight exeperience or my life which unfortunately landed on my birthday. One I’ll remember in a sad and bad way. American Airlines refused to compensate me because I got my tickets via Kayak and I haven’t been able to find a number to complain to a Kayak agent whom I sure would say I had to contact American Airlines and nobody would help or take responsilvitu for this disaster."

After taxiing, the pilot informed us of withheld information, that ATC would delay our departure for ~40 minutes, but we could STILL try to make it up in the air. This was a bold faced lie. It was finally 9:52pm before we even took off from SFO. While idling, the cabin started to reek of jet fuel, and people started coughing and sneezing. Upon landing at LAX at 10:46pm, we were told that there was no gate for us, and that we would have to wait for an amount of time that kept changing every time there was an announcement. The toxic jet fumes started to permeate the cabin again, and people started coughing and sneezing in response. Ultimately it is 11:21pm by the time we reached our gate. At this point, the jetway was broken/failed to open, but despite this, the air conditioning was switched off and pax crowd the aisles without direction. Finally we managed to escape at 11:31pm."

Pros: "I was surprised by the amount of room in the economy cabin."
Cons: "Check in very slow! The computers used for passenger self check in didn't work well. It took 6 attempts to read my passport, it never did read my green card, wouldn't accept my frequent flyer number. Other passengers were similarly frustrated. The attendant couldn't have been less helpful. I joined a line to check in with a counter clerk. The counter positions were seriously understaffed. The clerks seemed to be working quite slowly and were quite unconcerned about the growing line. I'm glad I checked in early for my flight!"
Cons: "I got to Moscow, SVO. I didn't receive my bag. This sucks."
Cons: "Got a notification of a TWO HOUR DELAY departing SFO. Rebooked into Charlotte instead of Dallas to connect to Fort Myers. THAT flight got delayed AFTER the doors were closed by another 45 minutes which caused me to miss my connection to Fort Myers AND have American Airlines leave my bag in Charlotte. I rebooked into West Palm Beach to drive to Fort Myers and my bag stayed in Charlotte even though there was ANOTHER 45 minute delay to change a tire on the plane. If I practiced medicine the way the airline handled customers, I'd kill every third patient!"

Cons: "Changed to a smaller plane from Chicago to Dublin Paid extra for seats on original and didn't get them Flight late because of catering difficulties"

Pros: "Airline and crew looked after us and kept us informed. My app said the flight was delayed but the captain didn't seem to know this so we sat for half an hour or more after planned departure. Maybe he hoped to get an earlier slot. We were 30 mins late in the end."

Cons: "On board entertain was the worst I've experienced in some time. I remember when American was the airline to travel not anymore."
Pros: "The Good: The seat configuration available for an upcharge of $38 gave just enough additional room to make getting my frail elderly mother in and out of her seat and accessing items she needed from a bag stored under the seat ahead of me much easier and safer than it would have been in, say, the sardine can-like conditions of the coach section on United flights."
Cons: "The Bad: At boarding, American does not provide pre-boarding for those who need extra time. I was traveling with my elderly mother, who can walk (very) short distances but is quite frail. American was great about providing a wheelchair to the gate, but then we were on our own. Because there was no designated boarding for people needing extra time or assistance, I had to sharp elbow my way to the front of the post-first class boarders and talk folks into letting her through. Stressful for both of us."
