Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "It was all pretty bad."
Cons: "The baggage policy wasn’t enforced at all, so I realized I could have saved $40 and had my backpack under my seat as my personal item since most others did. They charge for seltzer water. No internet options. Male flight attendant made inappropriate jokes and the rest of the staff was rude and blunt. Will not fly this airline again."
Pros: "Inexpensive and convenient"
Pros: "on time, polite crew"
Cons: "tight, uncomfortable seats"
Pros: "Smooth flight, great service from flight attendants."
Cons: "Yelling crying kids"
Pros: "Nothing. The only thing that was good it was that it was a direct flight, however with the delay it make it longer than other flights with stops"
Cons: "Will not use your airline in the future due unreliable flights. Never experienced this with any other airline"
Pros: "The price is good"
Cons: "I don’t like the chairs"
Pros: "Great customer service checkin they were very kind and patient"
Cons: "the seats are not very big"
Pros: "STAFF WAS FRIENDLY"
Cons: "SEATS ARE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE"
Pros: "The flight was quicker than expected"
Cons: "There was a few bugs crawling in the seat in front of me onto my food tray"
Cons: "No food"
Cons: "Canceled my flight and my buddies flight when no other airlines did. Had poor customer service. Made me spend 1500 in one way flights"
Pros: "I loved how welcoming crew members were and how attentive they were. I also liked that when checking in the bag crew was very nice and tried to help and resolve any issues there were. They were professional and helpful. The trip was smooth and according to time."
Cons: "There was really nothing to complain about. Seat were a little uncomfortable, but when speaking to regular flyers they mentioned how flying is not very comfortable in any airline."
Cons: "The seats are very uncomfortable. To many little charges; i.e. Snack drinks, baggage going and coming, seat selection. I would consider taking another airline and paying a higher price. Faulty/broken arm rest. Flight attendants slightly rude/short with passengers. Initially, the flight was cheaper but ended up being the same cost as every other airline once all the additional charges were added. What I thought was a positive for this airline quickly became a negative outcome."
Cons: "Seats are tiny, all in flight services are for charge. However, my main complaint lies with their horrible customer service. Our flight was delaid, ultimately cancelled, and no one from the frontier staff informed us of the change, why it was cancelled, or when we would be rebooked."
Pros: "Good Fly, nice atention and good landing"
Cons: "the seats do not recline"
Pros: "The flight itself was OK considering the price."
Cons: "My luggage (and those of a few other passengers) did not arrive with me and I spent one hour for bagage claim. There was no clear reason for that: it was a direct flight and the luggage was registered two hour before the departure. However the luggage was finally delivered to my hotel the next morning."
Pros: "I liked who I sat next to."
Cons: "We had to pay for our carry on, our phones wouldn't scan for the ticket, lines were long, I had to run all the way back to print our tickets out, women working outside of the gate were so rude, no tv, thin and uncomfortable seats, just overall disappointing."
Pros: "Check in was done quickly"
Pros: "How Frontier used to be"
Cons: "- Bag fees ( every other airline allows 1 carry on and 1 personal item at no extra fee) - Terrible customer service... My app said I checked in successfully online the night before my flight which was not the case when I arrived at the airport kiosk in San Diego. I was 1.5 hours early for my boarding time and ended up missing my flight due to no representatives at the counter and a 90 minute phone call with Frontier customer service. I am a frequent traveler and use Frontier for 90% of my flights. I will soon start flying with other airliners and build points with them as I am fed up with the lack of organization and care that Frontier has for its customers. I should be compensated for all the troubles I have been through with Frontier over the past few years!!"
Pros: "The initial price."
Cons: "This my first time flying frontier and hopefully my last. What a disaster of an airline."
Pros: "See my comments on the flight from San Diego to Denver"
Cons: "See my comments on the flight from San Diego to Denver"
Pros: "That I got home! The crew and flight team tried to keep us on time even in the face of some difficulties."
Cons: "Babies cried the whole flight and the seats are hard and do not recline... this is kind of a must on a redeye flight. Babies crying on a flight is not the airlines problem, but I think policies that allow babies on a flight like this is a bad decision. Additionally, the flight crew didn't even offer to assist the mother with a juice or cracker- nothing. The only relief came from another passenger 6 rows back that bought the child a snack. A little service goes a long way."
Cons: "Was not aware they charge $40 per bag for a carry-on until we got to the ticket counter. The seats were very uncomfortable and I was very surprised you need to pay for drinks, which on any other airline would be complementary. Overall, very dissatisfied."
Pros: "I used to love flying Frontier—the airline with the cute animals on the tail of the planes. Now I call them the F word in airlines. If you want to fly Frontier, I want to make sure you’re forewarned. Their slogan is “A different kind of animal.” This animal is very cunning. And slightly savage. First, if you’ve been suckered into their $59 airfares, you already know what’s waiting for you. Wait. You actually want to fly back home? Well you’ll end up paying the same price as you would most any other airline. But wait…what’s this? Actually, their rates are about $100 cheaper than normal. What they don’t tell you is, they charge $30 for you to carry on your own baggage. I always thought it was ludicrous to charge me to carry my own bag onto a plane. Keep in mind that’s one way. So it’s $60 round trip. And that’s their discounted rate if you book online. It goes way up if you’re one of the unfortunates who wait till you’re at the kiosk to settle up with the Frontier Friskers. Oh, you say you want to actually choose your seat? That’s $13 minimum. For each leg of your trip. Don’t be surprised if they figure out a way to charge you for each leg of your body. That’s for a normal seat. If you don’t cough up the $13, they’ll randomly seat you wherever they want. I wouldn’t be surprised if they counted the lavatory as a possibility. So, that’s $60 for your own carry-on luggage. And a minimum $26 if you dare to choose your own cheap seat. Hmm. That $100 savings is looking rather slim right now. Speaking of slim, that describes their seats. And they don’t recline. You’re straight upright your whole trip. And the padding is about as comfortable as a cheap mattress in a cheap motel. The best way I can describe the feeling: Say you’re on Sesame Street and your job is to sit on the capital letter ‘L” for two hours. So while spending what feels like an eternity in L, maybe you’d like something to quench your thirst. That’s $1.99. Water? $1.99. A snack? $2.99. I’m surprised they don’t charge for toilet paper. By the square. (To be fair, I just learned that a cup of water is actually free. “For today,” said the flight attendant. “That could change.”) Nice Surprise: The people who work for Frontier are generally nice. But if this is the way Frontier treats their customers, how do they treat their employees? Do they make their mechanics buy their own tools? I wrote to the company to let them know how hugely disappointed I am with their changes. I never got the courtesy of a reply. I somehow like to imagine the CEO, in the true spirit of “no frills”, answering each customer letter by himself on an Olivetti typewriter from the 1970s. But I kind of doubt it. So there you have it. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. And if you have four arms, well, you might just fit their new slogan. Frontier Airlines: A whole different way to treat people like animals."
Cons: "Frontier's low fares which are deceptive. They charge you $60 for carrying your own bag! They charge you $13 per leg for the "privilege" of choosing your seat--even the normal seats. They charge you $1.99 for basic sodas offered by most every other airline for free. And they charge you $2.99 per snack. The seat are slim, terribly uncomfortable with virtually no padding and they don't recline! They don't respond when you write them."
Pros: "The seats are comfortable."
Cons: "Did I mention that half of the flight was missing their luggage??"
Cons: "My flight never happened. I was supposed to fly on a Thursday, but because I was passing through Denver and a blizzard had closed the airport the DAY BEFORE, Frontier's flight was cancelled on Thursday. First I spend an hour and fifteen minutes on hold before finally giving up and calling back in the middle of the night. Then I waited fifteen minutes to speak to someone, who informed me that the earliest they could get me a flight would be TUESDAY. That is FOUR DAYS from my day of departure. My only options were a refund or a Tuesday flight. I asked to speak to a manager, but the employee refused to transfer me and eventually hung up on me. This was hands down the worst customer service experience I have ever had with an airline. I am still fighting for a refund, after I had to purchase a day-of flight with another airline to reach my destination. It required me to fly from a different airport and to a different airport, which was a nightmare for my other travel plans. Needless to say, I will never fly Frontier airlines again, and will never recommend them to anyone."
Pros: "Cheap fare."
Cons: "The remodeled interior puts the seats closer together from front to back and don't recline. That also limits the size of the tray table, which is tiny. Even as a tiny, short person, it was uncomfortable. For anyone of normal stature it would be torture. Paying for a "better" seat appears to provide very little if any added benefit, just keeps your party together. There is no entertainment, movies, music, or wifi so bring your battery pack charger. There is only expensive junk food to eat. My only option on my coast to coast flight was a red eye. So you arrived just wiped out. So if you do this to save money, in my overall assessment, it's just not worth it. I'll never do it again."
Pros: "overall it was good."
Cons: "I HATE the bag fees"
Pros: "Cheap if you have baggage."
Cons: "Cheap. No included snacks or drinks. No real tray table. Seats don't recline. Have to pay for all bags."
Pros: "Great company, good service, no complaints"
Cons: "You have to pay for food"
Pros: "Flight was cancelled due to weather.. we understand. Leaving my 70 yr old mother at the gate for 8 hours...not cool.Tried calling airport, Frontier airlines...and besides giving my m,om a place on next flight at 6 30 am. No one and I mean no one at Frontier tried to help us get a safe place for my mom. Instead we got an international call center with a nice operator that did not understand us. You really need a call center in America, with real people that belong to our culture. Stop sending our customer service off our country...and for a change hire americans. By the way I need you to give my mom 5 free flights to Denver and to San Diego Round trip. Thanks!"
Cons: "Baggage fees were ridiculous and the seats were very uncomfortable. Take off and landings were very rough."
Cons: "The flight was delayed 2 hours, and they didn't even offer coffee or refreshment on the plane as compensation for our delay since we missed our dinner with our loved ones."
Pros: "Very nice crew. Smooth boarding - quick and efficient."
Cons: "Seats very uncomfortable."
Pros: "It got me from A-B"
Cons: "This airline has gone downhill. Charging for carry on luggage and seat selection. No entertainment or Wifi. uncomfortable seats that do not recline. No complimentary ANYTHING. People will say this is the future, but the future is bleak. I will most likely not fly this airline again."
Pros: "Super low rate - on time flight a day after a massive storm blanketed Denver with a foot of snow. I assume I have to pay for each breath I take on a Frontier flight so it's never a surprise. A la carte is fine with me when a 3,000 mile round trip is $81.- Nice attendant at luggage check-in moved me to a window seat which was appreciated."
Cons: "Frontiers website is the worst in the airline industry."
Pros: "The crew was great. We flew into some particularly bad weather and the cockpit crew did an excellent job landing the airplane. Some passengers even applauded once we were safely on the ground. The fair was - reasonable. The plane appeared to be new-ish and was pretty clean."
Cons: "A fee for EVERYTHING. I think I knew Frontier charged for everything but forgot when making my last minute reservation to see my ailing father. When it was time to check in on-line, it appeared every seat was either considered a premium seat or was not available. Middle seats and seats near the lav were considered premium. And the fee was either $20 or $35. I elected not to pay for a premium seat and took my chances that I would actually get a seat when I checked in at the counter. I believe they also charge for soda."
Cons: "No free soft drinks.."
Pros: "All the crew and do tier employees I interacted with where very friendly and curious! I had a broken leg and they made sure that I was taken care of"
Cons: "The seats we're very hard... No leg room at all (even in the stretch seating area. I was not offered any complimentary snacks or drinks."
Pros: "We had a flight attendant that yelled at passengers to "sit down! Right now!" When I asked if they could take my water cup they snapped at me and told me that I needed to wait. Waiting wasn't the problem, but aren't flight attendants supposed to be nice? No where does it say that military get free bags I wound up paying 70 this trip that could have been avoided."
Pros: "Flight was on time and staff were friendly."
Cons: "Was not aware that I would have to pay for baggage until trying to do online check-in. Very expensive...and who charges for a carry-on?? Tray tables were a joke - you couldn't fit anything on them. And you had to pay for drinks and snacks. Felt like I was being nickle and dimed which left a sour taste in my mouth."
Cons: "AWFUL. I arrived at the airport 1 hour and 10 minutes before my flight. I attempted to check in at a kiosk, which failed and I was told to line up to see a clerk. I got in the ticketing/check-in line and was waiting for a while when a clerk asks if anyone was flying to San Diego and that they were in the wrong line. I was redirected to the additional services line, and when I finally saw the clerk, was told that I had missed the 45 minute check-in deadline. They refused to help me look for another flight, and was told my ticket was nonrefundable even though the misdirection was the airline's fault and their lack of communication. They should've posted signs if passengers on a specific flight needed to be in a specific line for check-in. Furthermore, their lack of willingness to rectify the situation was just a poor demonstration of customer service. I will definitely not be flying with Frontier ever again."
Cons: "I have flown on several different airlines thru out my lifetime but Frontier is the worst. All other airlines give you soda and coffee for free. Frontier charges you $1.99 with a credit card for a cup of coffee. I flew from DIA to San Diego Dec 23,2015 with a carry on bag. But coming Home from San Diego to DIA Dec 27.2015 my bag grew 2"inches longer and I was forced to pay a extra $45.00. It's was the same carry on bag I took to San Diego. I travel a lot and know many people all over the United States who travel and I would not ever return flying FRONTIER or would I recommend it to anyone else. P.S. I measure my carry one bag before I left Denver. Poor service!!!!!"
Cons: "Flight attendant put his dick in my face!!!"
Pros: "It was a short flight, the customer service rep waived the carry on charge for me."
Cons: "Flight was delayed an hour. Food was EXTREMELY expensive. Non alcoholic drinks weren't free like most carriers. Seats didn't recline. There is a $40 carry on fee for luggage! $60 if you wait until you get to the gate. (The at gate rep was kind enough to waive the fee for me however) No on-flight entertainment. This plane was BASIC. No wifi, no tvs."
Pros: "Everything was great! Not sure why everyone else had so many issues : / As far as people being charged for carry on bags, they just didn't read all the details, but that's not the fault of the airlines. My crew was fun and helpful, although I didn't need anything. I would fly with Frontier again!"
Pros: "The long ride did not have any movies playing or the option to buy them. You charge for water and ice when that should be a courtesy."
Cons: "The long ride did not have any movies playing or the option to buy them. You charge for water and ice when that should be a courtesy."
Cons: "Need: better menu options, more comfortable seats, better sized tray tables, $30 for a carry-on is ridiculous"
Pros: "Crew were good. Seating was awful. Very uncomfortable because seats don't recline."
Cons: "Seats need to recline and the cost of luggage was ridiculously expansive. I won't be using this airline again mostsly because of baggage costs."
Cons: "I booked the flight and paid for it but because of the very bad customer service I couldn’t use it! So sad."
Cons: "55lbs Suitcase cost $105! That was the worst!"
Pros: "The price was unbeatable. One of the flight attendants was very comedic in her intercom speeches."
Cons: "At the airport check in, over 100 of us stood in line to drop off bags for TWO HOURS with no Spirit staff in sight. When the staff did arrive, they were slow about helping us, laughed and joked with each other ignoring us, and not even apologetic. Once they began taking bags, they weren't friendly or even very attentive. The flight attendants paid little attention to the customers...stayed all up front eating, talking to each other, or on their electronic devices. The seats are very cramped, uncomfortable, and had no pocket or way to recline (unless you paid extra). There was no complimentary snack/beverage options...not even water...and this was for a 3 hour flight. The overall staff was not friendly or inclined to be helpful."
Pros: "Friendly & humorous crew. Pleasant flight overall. Loved the in flight surprise."
Cons: "Water should be available for free."
Pros: "Prompt, took off on time. Seat was excellent."
Cons: "Nothing comes to mind"
Cons: "2 hours late"
Pros: "i am pregnant and the flight attendant was so sweet to give me a free ginger ale and continued to check on me because i was getting very sick on the plane right. great service."
Pros: "The crew was nice overall. You can have coffee raffles for free. Seats weren't too bad for 5 hours flights."
Cons: "The Microphones were too loud. the crew talked too much trying to sell the rewards card. It was frustrating that the carry on is too expensive. I paid $100 total for my carry on. I thought I was saving money using this airline but I end up paying more for fewer services. My flight was 5 house flight with no wifi service. nothing to entertain with. I don't think I would take this airline again unless its 1-hour flight with no carry-on."
Pros: "Cheap cheap cheap"
Pros: "The flight went well"
Cons: "Payment for baggage"
Pros: "The whole experience was absolutely wonderful. I will fly spirit as often as I can for the destinations I fly to. Great service, and very importantly to me, very good to active duty military and veterans. Big thumbs up!"
Pros: "Seats are pretty cramped. Originally there was a large person in the middle seat next to me but got hugely lucky and the window next to him was empty so he moved over. Otherwise it would've been a miserable flight."
Pros: "The flight attendants were really nice"
Cons: "The flight attendants were incoherent on the flight back"
Pros: "Nothing at all. All of the general staff was horrible and I dare say ghetto."
Cons: "The flights policies. The staff. When I got there I went to check in to a kiosk, it read arrow and directed me to the airline desk. There I was.charged $55 to carry on my bag. The plan was to check in and pay for my bag at the kiosk which would have been $21 instead of $55. For their troubles, I supposed. What a rip off. Then on my boarding pass they put 0 bags where I was then asked for $100 fee to check my carry on at the gate. Why would they put 0 bags?!?! Thank God I had my receipt with me and I dodged that extra expense. The staff was so rude. Worst flight experience of my life! They make TSA look great."
Pros: "I liked that they let military board early whether they were in uniform or not...flight attendants were friendly"
Cons: "I didn't like that the seats were so thin and they didn't reclin at all, I barely even had space to move and get comfortable. The tickets were cheap but they made up for the cheap price with baggage prices, they charges for every bag even the carry-ons"
Pros: "Crew was super funny with explanation of preflight instructions"
Cons: "No free drinks food"
Cons: "It should not charge to carry luggage and have some snacks at small trips"
Pros: "Saved $500 using spirit. I did not have luggage. I brought my own water and food. Worked very well for a short notice quick flight"
Cons: "Everyone was nice. Flights on time no delays. Perfect I wanted to low price and that's what I got"
Cons: "12 hour delay"
Pros: "The best part was the low fare I found through kayak for a one-way trip from Vegas to San Diego."
Cons: "I didn't like the people sitting behind me and the older gentleman flight attendant had a sense of humor that was a bit off-putting for me personally. Maybe others enjoyed it, but not my cup of tea! The flight was initially delayed upon arrival by at least 30 - 40 minutes. No assistance to be found at the gate. Then an additional 20 or so minutes delay after all had been seated for two passengers, one of whom could barely walk straight. These two kept the entire plane waiting only to get off before take off. REALLY?? What a cluster. Will not be flying Spirit again."
Pros: "The planes are new so there's that."
Cons: "The flight was delayed 3 hours due to leaky breaks and they didn't have the air on so we all sweat to death until someone decided to flip the ac switch 2 hours in. The tickets are so cheap cause you have to pay for eeeeeeeeeeeverything! You have to pay for a carry-on, a drink, to have the service desk check you in, etc. I'm surprised they don't have a coin-lock on the bathrooms or individual oxygen masks that they charge you for."
Cons: "2 hour delay, so had to jump on SW flight to make my meeting."
Pros: "Creating my own itinerary through a 3rd-party (Kayak) online reservation agent, I was unaware of the $52 add-on baggage fee. And when I tried to use the electronic kiosk to check in, it was not functioning properly. Although it not just Spirit Airlines, but I feel as though these additional fees aren't spelled out to the consumer well enough and therefore are somewhat disingenuous in their relationships with their customers."
Cons: "Late boarding due to delays from previous flight."
Pros: "Well we landed in our destination so that was good"
Cons: "- gave me the wrong ticket at checkin - armed guards boarded the plane and removed a passenger - We then had to deplane and rescan - Bumpy ride and terrible seats - 100 bucks if you need to check a bag at the gate"
Cons: "Boarding, food? that's funny!"
Pros: "Ticket prices, Crews very Open friendly altitude."
Pros: "The most memorable was the cute stretching exercise the stewardess had us do at landing. We all got a good laugh. I enjoyed my trip back home. The Captain kept us informed of things alone the way...(I haven't heard that being done in a while) I was happy that has started back up, and he got us there early. I love flying Spirit."
Cons: "How sooooo many seats have become a price to pay now to sit on the plane, and they don't even recline."
Pros: "The flight was delayed for a while because of weather, it was a nice flight."
Pros: "Worst flight attendants and nasty attitudes"
Cons: "$55 charge for carry on without warning Nasty attitude flight attendants Didn't even give me a plain cup of water on the plane without a $3 charge that's dosgusting rude and inhumane"
Cons: "Too many limitations. You don't save anything because you have to pay for everything. Other airlines have a 50 pound Spirit is only 40. I had to pay 25.00 more for 3 pounds after I had already paid for luggage"
Cons: "The world's worst airline was delayed virtually all day and did not return us to Detroit until past 1:00 a.m."
Pros: "Decent experience. There was no entertainment, and I didn't get any food. I didn't like having to pay 45 dollars to bring my backpack with me, (both ways = $90)"
Cons: "It got delayes almost 3 hours."
Cons: "The gate agents in Chicagp were rude and gave us incorrect information. They were chatting with their friends instead of answering our question. Then she told us we could use a different security line. When we went over there, we were told if we were flying spirit we had to use the long one on the other side of the airport! Our flight was then delayed twice, when we asked for an update, the gate agent was again rude, though she did eventually tell there was something wrong with the floor of the plane. Once we were on the plane, we were stuck on it for another 45 minutes before we took off. Baggage claim in Chicago was also a mess. There was only one carasaul and it took about an hour to get our bags. Our ride had to circle for an hour. We will not be flying spirit again."
Pros: "The man at the counter was nice enough to upgrade my seat after seeing I was military and had to pay an insane amount for my baggage."
Cons: "I am NOT saying that the military deserves hand outs. We don't, we just do our jobs. I do however feel that the baggage fees were ridiculous. I have never flown with an airline that charges for the overhead bin.The money you "save" on a plane ticket is all added back on with the baggage fees The crew did not appear to be enjoying their flight, which during holidays can be stressful and I understand that, but this is their job. My flight to Texas was absolutely awful, I had children yelling obnoxiously behind me and even the stewardesses noticed, but they didn't say anything even after witnessing the child kicking the back of my seat repeatedly. One of the bathrooms was also out so there was a line of people down the isle. I personally did not like knowing that a bathroom was out of order because it made me wonder, what else was wrong with the plane? I will NOT ever be flying with spirit again."
Cons: "cost of luggage is ridiculous. cost of snacks is overly ridiculous"
Cons: "Paying 100 per luggage Is oultrageous!!"
Pros: "The walk off the plane."
Cons: "There was no obvious indication before booking these flights that I would need to pay for a bag. That should be in bold letters and flashing at the person buying the ticket. I was very mislead and plan to never use your air line again. Also, my chair area was not cleaned. There was used tissues and a barf bag in front of me the entire flight. I could have gotten sick because of your negligence."
Cons: "They lost my luggage, been 4 days and the customer service has done virtually nothing"
Pros: "Cheap fare"
Cons: "Extremely dry air quality causing itchy dry throat and eyes in multiple passengers. Extremely aloof and poor attitude of flight attendants. Crew was clueless and arrogant about their ignorance on connecting flight information."
Cons: "Though the flight was delayed an hour and a half without notice the flight crew still made it a rather easy flight."
Pros: "I like that the seats are not as tight as before. There is some leg room on the regular seats. They are nicely padded, but could use a little more in the bottom of the seat area. Little offerings of snacks as has become the usual on flights. Everything seemed to go smoothly. I like how friendly they were with pets. Even a pet that had no crate, of which I am sure they made an exception. The dog was totally well mannered. I like flights that are kind to pets."
Cons: "I didn't like a charge for a regular drink. I didn't like the huge baggage and seat selection fees."
Pros: "It was cheaply priced. Crew members were pleasant."
Cons: "Being delayed with poor excuses having to do with paperwork."
Pros: "Easy flight, on time."
Cons: "Always changing gates always changing gates in Cabo in Cabo."
Cons: "Lost baggage, delayed departure, very unhappy staff. Nothing was good. They Nickle and dime you and claim they are a good deal... They are not!"
Pros: "cheap prices"
Cons: "paying extra for carry on, no entertainment, seats don't recline, very uncomfortable the entire flight"
Pros: "Be prepared, the fare is cheaper because anything you do will cost money. Talk to the counter rep $10, carry-on bag $55, check a bag $55. Stay away I save $40 to loose almost $200 in fees. Oh yeah and it extra to board early and/or pick your seats!"
Cons: "The better question would be what did I like? Ehh nothing!"
