Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
"The WiFi on the plane didn’t work despite them having 100s of movies and shows that would’ve been really great to watch."
Pros: "Great crew! Few passengers as it was Sun night of a 3 day holiday weekend (best time to travel!). On time departure, early arrival, smooth flight."
Cons: "Seats were not the most comfortable for my 6’4” son. My seat was not the easiest to adjust in order to recline a bit."
Pros: "The cleanliness of plane and it appeared new."
Cons: "The seating arragnement was next to a paranoid stranger instead of my spouse"
Cons: "First class lav was filthy."
Pros: "Everything was great and we had plenty of room. Attendants were nice. Flight was on time and uneventful."
Cons: "We paid for Premium upgrade, but needed a pair of headphones. They charged us for it which seemed petty given the Premium upgrade. I wish the audio for the entertainment system would MF have had closed captions."
Pros: "landed close to on time"
Cons: "seat is uncomfortable, very basic first class amenities."
Pros: "Every thing except food"
Cons: "A couple more vegetarian choices would have been better!"
Pros: "All smooth."
Cons: "All okay"
Pros: "Surprised to find seat was comfortable.."
Pros: "Movie selection was good"
Cons: "I was assigned a middle seat on a full flight. But the back 2 rows were nearly empty"
Cons: "the overhead storage was tiny!"
Pros: "Boarding was smooth and simple. The crew nailed the flight. We were late leaving due to the incoming plane arriving late, but everyone caught up with a speedy boarding and making up some time in the air. The seats were comfortable and had decent leg room in the non-premium section."
Cons: "The plane was hot for the entire 3.5 hr flight. The flight attendant was complaining during the drink service and she said she was going to fix it, but apparently the issue couldn’t be remedied because it never changed. Other than that, the flight was pretty good. The plane didn’t have TVs, which is so nice when flying with a child, so it would have been great to have some in flight screens."
Cons: "Alaska has utterly ruined Virgin’s first class experience, and the food is garbage."
Cons: "Alaskan did away with the food & drinks on demand, part of which made virgin so special. Also internet did not work and documentation of it was wrong anyway, not good for work commuters. Flight was over a halfhour late taking off, however displays said ontime and sfo staff ignored the queue waiting to ask questions"
Pros: "Direct flight"
Pros: "The food and drinks were good once they got there. Entertainment was adequate."
Cons: "The flight was delayed, the charger under the seat didn't work, the flight attendants said to just order food and drinks on the screen but it took at least 30 minutes for them to arrive."
Pros: "No problems noted."
Cons: "It was a crowded flight, with a lot of yappy people."
Pros: "Flight, once we boarded, went well. Traveled on Virgin plane. It was comfortable"
Cons: "It was delayed 2 hours. Never given reason. We did have free movies, that was nice"
Pros: "No one in the middle seat... friendly attentive staff. Clean plane."
Cons: "It was very nice no complaints"
Pros: "Plane was clean and the crew friendly"
Cons: "The delay"
Pros: "Planes , Free movies , staff that appears they care"
Cons: "One of the first class seats had a molding come loose/fall off... NO COMPROMISE TO AIRCRAFT SAFETY! We were delayed cause a tech was called to fix it. Could have waited! 45min late."
Pros: "Flight attendants were nice"
Cons: "First time (and hopefully last) flying Alaskan. Boarding was ok, not the most efficient but it worked. Once aboard a predicted snow storm started (in Seattle so not the first time this has happened) and we had to de-ice. This process was exceptionally long, in fact so long that we had to add fuel for the trip. These two delays conveniently “timed out” the pilots, brilliant! Total delay was over 4 hours, all to be blamed on their ineptitude. Seems like the norm for airlines these days but this was blatant mismanagement."
Cons: "The free chat feature did not work on my iPad."
Pros: "The crew was fun and efficient."
Cons: "Crying baby"
Pros: "Easy on and off for a holiday weekend. Entertainment system worked well..."
Cons: "Texting service wasn't always working, suspect it follows if the internet was working.... Austin baggage claim needs improvement... 30+ minites for bags to hit belt."
Pros: "I’m a tall guy and there was finally enough room for my legs on a plane"
Pros: "On time and uneventful. That's all I really want or expected. Alaska came through in flying colors (pun intended)."
Cons: "On my return flight it seemed that the attendants were trying to stop anyone other than the 19 or 20 people in first class from using the forward bathroom. On my flight out, the cabin was asked to "wait at row 6" for the bathroom to be free. That seemed reasonable, even though I was in row 6, and fair to ask. However, on my return flight they seemed to expect the entire rest of the plane to use the rear bathroom. That doesn't seem right."
Cons: "I should have been given a chance to pick my seat. I had to pay for an upgrade because I was give a seat in the middle of the last row"
Pros: "The entire process was fluid and easy. The price was great for a non stop flight between Austin and Seattle. I really appreciate that. Though I didn't take advantage of the in flight entertainment option of using a personal tablet, I thought that was an awesome idea. I'm interested in checking that out in the future. Staff was friendly and I didn't have to deal with any lines!"
Pros: "Time literally flew by. The staff were friendly, they're always on time or early, and they've never lost a bag."
Pros: "Got there safely and on time. The staff was very friendly, one stewardess interacted with everyone individually, thanking them for choosing Alaska Airlines."
Cons: "I'm tired of being crammed into small and uncomfortable seats. It seems comfort is only for people who can afford it. Headrests were non-existent. I'm not extraordinarily tall but the seat stopped just above my neck and felt like a hard, sharp surface rather than something soft and padded. And, of course, there's not enough leg room. Especially once the person in front of you leans back. I don't mean to sound petty but it felt like the airline was more worried about maximizing profits at the expense of their guest's comfort."
Pros: "Smooth experience all around"
Pros: "Seats were comfortable!"
Cons: "Can't think of anything!"
Pros: "They left and landed early! The staff was pleasant and very helpful."
Pros: "never booking with alaska airlines again"
Cons: "Arranged for handicap assistance once we landed, but Austin airport did not have it available. The flight/flight crew was great!"
Pros: "Seats are a little larger n more legroom for my 6'2" big man of a husband"
Pros: "wifi phone charging"
Cons: "I arrived later than most, since my connecting flight was tight. Unfortunately, other passengers had let their young daughter take my seat and didn't seem to understand that I wanted to sit by a window (having never flown to the northwest, I wanted to see the view). Didn't want to seem like a heartless adult, so I sat in the aisle seat in another row. not good! constantly jostled by people going to and from the bathroom. and the kid closed the window anyways! I saw people take someone else's seat on the way to Portland, but the original person asked them to move. Guess it's a common thing"
Pros: "Crew was friendly and flight was on time."
Cons: "As I went to board my flight to return to Austin my seat was changed for "operational purposes" from a window to seat B elsewhere. I hate to complain and at the point we were boarding and I simply wanted to return home. However I have motion sickness typically and really hate being stuck in seat B neither on the isle or window as this really does not assist with feeling nauseated. Furthermore the seat I was placed in did not recline so I was unable to relax at all once we were airborne."
Pros: "The flight was quiet. No loud talkers was able to sleep."
Cons: "Too many people with more than one carry on. I was unable to store my bag above my seat."
Pros: "The crew were all great."
Cons: "I had a window seat and the window itself looked like it hadn't been cleaned in quite some time. It was not only dirty but it was gross. Smears of what appeared to be a dried up liquid or something. Lastly, there were smeared boogers in several different spots around the window. I didn't want to touch anything. Seriously the nastiest flight I've been on."
Pros: "No need to print boarding pass is nice because most customers don't have a printer at home. Great idea using an app on customers' smart devices. Charging ports is great plus."
Cons: "Lack of free services to kill time during a long flight. No free music and lack of free video. I was surprised Samsung Note 7 wasn't banned during my flight because of the battery issue."
Cons: "No closed captions --"
Cons: "YOU CHARGE TOO MUCH FOR OVERWEIGHT PACKAGE."
Pros: "Friendly staff, and the flight was pretty empty so I got a whole row to myself."
Pros: "Everything was great, gave food 3 stars but only because it was just snacks. Seats were comfortable and really liked the charging ports, better accessibility than under the seat."
Cons: "Didn't like that it felt like a free for all when boarding. Could have been better if it was more sectionalized, that is, allowing smaller section of rows to board at a time."
Pros: "My flight was inexpensive and convenient. None of the travel stress I hear about. Everything about the travel during my trip was on the money!"
"Wasn’t allowed to get on the flight even though we made it to our connecting gate 10 minutes prior to the scheduled departure."
"It left on time and arrived a few minutes early. The whole process of checking in, seating (got my upgrade thankfully!), and the meals (superb multi-grain healthy salad) were great. It arrived on time (actually a few minutes early). American continue to keep up its promise of customer service. I love being part of the American traveller family."
Pros: "Landed early in Austin, always nice."
Cons: "For an over 3hr flight, no snacks for sale was surprising and disappointing. Wifi entertainment did not work on personal devices, either."
Pros: "My flight was canceled and I don't know when or how much I will be refunded. The flight was canceled due to "maintenance" and they booked me on a new flight...for 16 hours later on the NEXT DAY. That was not acceptable for me and my travel companion since we have work today. There were no other flights and rental cars were scarce. I was able to book us tickets on a bus, and incurred costs for the bus tickets and the transportation to the bus stop. I want to be compensated for those costs AND refunded for the price of the ticket."
Cons: "Everything. There was also a lot of miscommunication about how my gate checked bag would be handled. Once I got back to Austin, my husband had to drive all the way out to the airport to retrieve my bag because they were not able to give it to me in Dallas. It was a huge inconvenience all around."
Pros: "Great crew, clean plane."
Cons: "Bring back beverage service when you can!"
Cons: "They should tell about why they are postponing the flights constantly. Just a flight delayed 4 times and no explanation."
Cons: "Departure time kept changing."
Cons: "They could at least announce boarding group 4..."
Cons: "Let me cancel the flight for credit"
Cons: "More beverages"
Pros: "Crew and pilot were nice while we dealt with technical difficulties and had to stay on the plane"
Cons: "After missing all our other connections, our luggage was delayed for hours, we were only given $12 each for meal vouchers for an entire day of layover, we were not given the upgrade for the seats we originally paid for (nor seats together) only promised refunds. The line for service was 2 hours."
Cons: "The communication to the passengers. Our flight kept getting delayed every 30 min. They kept telling us different reasons. We were supposed to take off at 2:40pm and we waited every 30 min delay until 7pm. We have kids so we had to get home. We ended up renting a car and driving to Austin."
Pros: "Travel time was great"
Pros: "The window seat of this plane is so closely placed to the window that you can hardly sit straight up and down. Food is non existent and one drink offered in 4.5 hours is bad service"
Cons: "Virtually everything"
Cons: "They canceled my flight!!!!!"
Pros: "Nothing, flight was delayed 3 hours"
Pros: "Even the food was decent (granted, I flew in 1st,so at least there was food)."
Cons: "Power outlet cover was busted. But it worked."
Pros: "The crew handled the flight delay well."
Cons: "Having to wait in Chicago due to mechanical plane problems was a bunner!"
Cons: "After boarding the plane, it lost power. We sat at the gate with no air conditioning for almost an hour. While they tried to jump start the plane. After deboarding due to the heat (Dallas temps around 105 F), instead of telling us the next available plane to put us on was going to be 5 hours later, they delayed the flight 15-30 minutes at a time. This was a flight from Dallas to Austin and I could have rented a car and driven in a shorter amount of time."
Cons: "Flight was delayed an hour. Poor communication with passengers during the process."
Pros: "Same as above."
Cons: "entertainment monitor for my seat did not work at all. also on all flights: I was not aware one needed one's own headphones to hear entertainment."
Pros: "I lost money, I came back a day later wish it wasn’t plan and is NOT ok ."
Pros: "Curteous. Prompt. On time."
Pros: "It was on time."
Cons: "Very small airplane for a 3 hours flight."
Pros: "Quick smooth flight"
Cons: "Everything went well with this flight."
Pros: "Getting home 20 minutes earlier than scheduled"
Cons: "Pretzels are always stale"
Cons: "My flight was delayed an hour plus and I missed my rental car reservation. So now I'm stuck wih no car."
Cons: "I bought travel insurance as I do with any trip. I have a complicated family emergency that forced me to call off the trip. Being that I bought trip insurance, I felt good. Well turns out they make you jump through so many hoops that your travel insurance fee is useless. I sent a letter to Allianz (the company that handles the travel insurance) and blasted them for their insensitivity in a difficult time. Going forward, I will not be purchasing travel insurance in the future. It may sound irrational but if you think about it, travel insurance is the tax on gullible people. You hear travel insurance and one assumes that if you spend the extra money on the insurance and something comes up, you can at least get much of your money back. Don't count on it! It's a 1/1000 chance they will do the right thing so the odds are not in people's favor. If you want to be smart, use the money you would have spent on travel insurance on some pre flight cocktails at the airport bar. Air travel is hellish enough without scams like Allianz!"
Cons: "Leg room/space BA offers is calculated for short and small body frame passengers and it is on not acceptable. It feels like cattle Wagon. BA should show consideration for real passengers not some sort of statistical average. I am 6'4" and sitting in your plane's cabin inflicts hours of body pain. The space given is sufficient for children and teenagers. Also sitting in the hot cabin for extended amount of time is extremely uncomfortable. Why there is no cooling and proper air ventilation right from the beginning?"
Pros: "Full can of tomato juice, head rests on the seat, relatively roomy seats and happy attendants."
Cons: "The fact that we didn't know we were supposed to go to American Airlines to acquire our boarding pass. A heads up would've been appreciated."
Pros: "Love these Non-stop to Austin even though they are always full. Thanks for this luxury of non having to transfer in Dallas."
Cons: "The down side is that these planes are smaller so we didn't have any entertainment and therefore no place to charge digital devices. There is however, wifi to purchase."
Cons: "Delayed waiting to unload fuel, then delayed again after they broke the tow-bar and had to inspect the nose gear. Hot cabin while waiting."
Pros: "Great crew."
Cons: "1 hour delay turned into a 3 hour delay. We waited at the airport for more than 4 hours and could've used that time to explore Chicago instead of rushing to the airport only to board, de-plane, and then board again. No vegetarian options were given for food."
Cons: "Was very stuffy and hot. Plane never cooled down."
Pros: "I got home safely"
Cons: "The airport was super crowded and the space in the plane was cramped (and I am a small person - 120 pounds). The plane was not clean and I actually picked up a virus on the plane and am still sick. I wiped down all of the surface area around my seat and still got sick. Airline travel is miserable and crowded and there is minimum service."
Pros: "There were no seats available together so we were upgraded to the extra room seats so that we could all sit together. As a mother flying by herself with 2 children, one of whom is on the Austin spectrum this gesture of being able to keep us together meant so much to all 3 of us. Thank you"
Pros: "I was traveling with two teenagers and originally there weren't 3 seats together. When we got to the gate they had reassigned our seats for us to sit all together. I appreciate that."
Cons: "We had already pulled out of the gate to leave when the captain informed us the plane had maintenance issues and we had to wait for a gate. We waited. When we got to the gate he announced the crew had timed out and that we should take our things and get down to wait for more information. Once at the gate we were told they were trying to put a new crew together for us, including the pilot. While we waited they did provide good quality deli food for us. I appreciate the food but the 5 hour delay, I did not appreciate."
Cons: "Delayed for 4 hours"
Cons: "While trying to get help with my boarding pass, the woman behind the counter was so rude and nasty. Yelled at me for being at her desk when another American employee took me there."
Pros: "I got these flights for dj jobs I had under a us p2 visa. My original flight to dallas was delayed from 12:56 to 8pm which would of landed me in dallas at 2:21am but the club Fat Rabbit closes at 2am Which in fact was a 1300 (US dollar) loss. I re booked my ticket to Austin from Vancouver this morning because the only reason to go dallas was my job. Was supposed to fly in have dinner play music get back on the plane n go Austin but going to dallas was irrelevant and a 7 hour delay was absolutely ridiculous."
Cons: "The fact I lost 1300.00 us has pissed me off I'm contacting AA about this I have my visa papers n contracts to show proof if not action is taken i will be contacting a lawyer"
Cons: "Delayed on the ground and didn't make up any time in the air. Arrived 45 minutes late."
Pros: "WHAT FOOD.,,,,,,.AA DOSE NOT FEE US OR HAVE ANY ENTERTAINMENT,"
Cons: "NOTHING AA IS JUST AS BAD AS FIJI AIRWAYS"
Pros: "New plane with leather like seats and good entertainment system."
Cons: "Board keeper rude to several guest who didn't want to check in their bag when there was plenty of room on the flight."
Pros: "Other than the delay, it was your basic 1 hour flight."
Cons: "The flight was delayed by an hour."
Pros: "Crew were friendly and helpful, the magazine was worth reading and the flight was smooth and on time."
Cons: "The seat felt like a wooden block was strapped to my back."
Pros: "Checkin was fast. Crew is always pleasant."
Cons: "Seats are uncomfortable. I chose to upgrade my seat and was charged but i couldnt see any difference between my seat and anyone elses. I dont understand how it works. Then I was refunded the upgrade amount..."
"90 min delay. No reason. Missed 2 flight from IAH to SFO. Had to spend night on my own money. No lounge open for early morning"
"There was no snack or anything but drink."
"Awful terrible flight attendants with no empathy."
Pros: "I like that I was finally able to come home"
Cons: "The United Airlines reps could have shown some empathy to the passengers who were delayed. The arline knew we had connecting flights and could've alerted the other flight that we were there and to wait on us. The connecting flight was scheduled to leave at 9:50. I arrived at the gate at 9:49 only to find that the flight had not only boarded but had already left. The reps at the counter showed no level of empathy and acted put out when asked to provide transportation to the reassigned gate. Lastly, the flight could've offered something more than a $10 food voucher, especially since the majority of the food in the airport is greater than $10."
Cons: "The gate agents did nothing to combat the gate lice that lined up in the "boarding" lane long before their boarding group was called. I almost missed my boarding group (which would have resulted in my carry-on being gate-checked all the way home) because the line was 40-deep. Only after asking the first person in line did I realize that the people lined up for "Boarding Group 3" were actually all Boarding Group 4. My flight didn't have working AC, and my seat didn't recline. I was burning up the whole time, and forced to sit at an unnaturally upright angle for the entirety of the 3.5 hour flight. I've never had a good experience with United. I will not be flying with them again."
Pros: "Staff was all friendly and exhibited positive and helpful attitudes. I also think the price and route was an excellent deal for this flight. It was actually such a good deal, it’s the main reason I even went."
Cons: "I think the baggage restrictions thing is really slimey and a shameful scam. I actually wouldn’t have minded paying around $50 more for my ticket and hand the bag included than be misled into thinking I could take luggage and finding out after it’s too late that I have to pay for my luggage. I think it’s a really sleazy business tactic (akin to resort fees). Fortunately for me however, I don’t travel with luggage so it doesn’t directly affect me. Still think it’s. Shitty way to do business though."
Pros: "Not much"
Cons: "Cabin AirConditioning fault. Air bridge fault all delayed flights from Fort Lauderdale to San Antonio"
Pros: "United seems to have simplified how it separates the boarding groups, so getting on the plane was well organized. The 787 aircraft was spacious and comfortable, which seems to put both passengers and crew in a good mood. Lots of entertainment options were available, so the three hour flight flew by. And we arrived early! A great experience on United."
Pros: "Landed early"
Cons: "No wifi or substantial snacks/dinner. Paid for bag"
Cons: "Fellow passengers; too many howling kids with clueless parents"
Pros: "The journey was smooth"
Pros: "My father passed away earlier that day and I needed a ticket quickly to fly home. At the airport I was a mess and the airline counter attendant was so amazing helping me ( I had never flown United and had no idea about their luggage policies ect..). She quickly pulled me aside.. helped me with checking in and did her best to fine me another seat thatvwas better than the one I had already chosen. Also, she gave me a hug and her condolences. Flying with an airline that has heart helped me so much during one of the most difficult times of my life. I will absolutely fly with them again."
Cons: "No complaints ... but I paid for a movie to take my mind off of my father's passing during the flight and there was a short in my monitor for our whole row. It kept cutting in and out and "searching for signal", I only was able to see 1/4 of the movie I paid for with all the interruptions in signal."
Pros: "Boarding and checking in was great.."
Cons: "there where some issues with the airplane from the beginning we were inform that the seat belt and cigarette icons lights were no working . but then they have to call technicians to do a recheck on the plane so there more issues no just about the lights we have to stay in the plane until fixed some people lost their connection flights. the terminal where we landed was a long walk to customs then pick up bags and transport to the next terminal no enough time to eat between flights. to stressful ."
Cons: "My friend and I have taken our hiking packs to Alaska, California, Washington, and all along the East coast. Never have we been asked to check our packs. I was mostly surprised, at first. Once I was seated a man in front of me had his hiking pack and two ukuleles in their cases, neither of which could fit under his seat. That's when I became frustrated. O This plane sucks: our knees were slammed into the seat in front of us because the chairs are so close together. No USB plugs. Plane was dirty, scuff marks on the wall and ceiling. There was paper in the pouch that looked like a mouse had chewed on it."
Cons: "We we're delayed at customs and missed our flight. We were told we were re-booked on a flight, so we ran across the airport, with two small children, to make that flight only to be told that weren't actually re-booked and needed to go standby. We then waited in line at customer service for two hours to be informed that United won't pay for a hotel. The customer service rep. did offer that if we wanted to take our kids across the airport, now at 11:30 at night, we could look for a United Supervisor in Terminal E, and if we were lucky enough to find one, they might override the policy and cover the hotel. Really! I understand that United doesn't have control over customs, but United did book an international flight with just over an hour layover, knowing that any slowdown in customs means missed flights. That's fine. The problem I have is when it happened, United's Customer Service model was to provide misinformation, incredible slow service, and what seemed like a complete lack of interest by United employees to do anything to make the situation better. There were no supervisors at the service counter, only 1 representative for an hour or so, and when the other representatives showed up, they were discussing going on break and going home. All with a very long line of people stuck in the airport waiting to get some help. I could accept this as an isolated instance, but since booking this trip, I have been getting the same level of service over the phone while trying to submit a refund request for my son who did not join us on the trip. United's 24 hour refund policy has taken 6 weeks and many hours online and on the phone and I still have no idea what the status of that request is, and apparently neither does anybody at United. The interaction I have had with your employees have been friendly and courteous, but extremely time consuming, with a lot of incorrect information and no resolution. Very mediocre at best."
Pros: "The space of the plane since I volunteered to be at the emergency door I felt comfortable..."
Cons: "Not giving me my seat number because my ticket was not a standby ticket and I seem to think that the agent thought that I was on standby but I have to go to him several time to make him understand that my ticket had a confirmation number and I did a reserve and I needed a seat number it was not on standby when he checked it he said okay and I also explained to him that I was a military personnel ... The agent should treat us with respect you should have gave me a better information and just throw me away then going back to him several times for the correct solution..."
Pros: "On time."
Cons: "New looking plane but the TVs behind all the chairs were locked without a credit card. The new chairs looked great until you sat in them. I'm 5'10" and my knees were already brushing up against the seatback in front of me. If you push the recline button on the armrest, the chair doesn't go back (of course it doesn't, the person's legs behind me are probably up against my chair anyway). Multiple people around me were also asking around if the chairs recline. I have a mild back injury and sitting up at 90 degrees the entire way was very uncomfortable."
Pros: "The ticket staff. The only thing about the Harlingen airport is that it needs more than a couple of exray machines ....the Valley is woefully behind in staff training and technology. It took forever to get through the short lines...it was too long of a wait."
Cons: "The way that a couple of young AA men who were biligirent, combative and vulgar upset about their seat assignments. I told one of the young men to stop using vulgarity and no way to treat the lady that was doing her job, she continued treating them with courtesy and they kept mumbling under their breath God knows what. So young and already so bitter. They were towering over her and took a confrontational stance...she finally called security. I would not allowed them on the plane. I commend the young lady there in Harlingen."
Pros: "Finally getting to SEA"
Cons: "The Captain kept lying to the passengers why we were delaid ! Finally after 40 minutes sitting on the ramp he came on and apolized for telling us the wrong information but actually what happened was someone loaded all the luggage in the aft baggage compdartment incorrectly and they had to reload the the bags and move then to the forward compartment This certainty didn't give you a safe feeling knowing there ground crew didn't know ho to load there plane correctly! Another reason not to fly United Airlines! Everett Johnson, Bellevue Wash."
Pros: "Flight attendants were friendly."
Cons: "The most uncomfortable seat I have ever ridden on a flight. My back and posterior were in pain for over a day after the flight. Terrible treatment of passengers to pack a few more people in like cattle. Thinnest seats I have ever seen that felt and looked like hard plastic. This was an Embraer 175 jet...will never fly on one of these again. Had a hard landing in excellent weather. Flew the same route back to Charlotte on an American Airlines A320...these seats were comfortable and the landing was smooth even with a 20mph crosswind."
Pros: "The flight attendants were nice, unlike the people at the ticket and gate counters."
Cons: "My flight was delayed by nearly two hours, causing me to have to miss my connection. Though they knew for hours that the flight would be delayed, they did not have enough people working at the check in counters. There were not that many people in line, but I had to wait more than 20 minutes before being able to speak to someone. The representative informed me that I would have to be rebooked onto a later connection because the delay would cause my to miss my original connecting flight, and when I told her that I needed an earlier time to avoid missing a meeting, she just said "I have nothing earlier." She was barely even apologetic. Then she was unable to print my boarding pass for my connection. I had a 2 hour and 45 minute layover in Houston whereas in my original flight it was 1 hour."
Pros: "Ease of boarding and security checking bag at gate"
Cons: "Check in kiosk couldn't scan phone was glad to unload my carry-on and check it for free. Should be encouraged to check 1 bag for free from start for smaller bags. Flight attendant was crabby when I tried to squeeze past into my seat. She kind of apologized by being nicer to me after that. They kind of yelled at passengers to take their seats to take off. I liked United. Too bad about the incident I read about. I was on a flight with no available seats to LA and thought someone had taken my seat. Turns out I was reading it wirong on my phone abd the last seat available was actually mine."
Pros: "Safe landing in windy conditions."
Cons: "Air-con failure delayed departure. No complimentary food or OH. Poor legroom. Nothing"
Cons: "I was warned about booking with this airline but I had to see it for myself before listening to others now I wish I had done just that. First of all, outdated planes, no Tv screens, expensive wifi. How is it only $3 one way and then $5 the other especially after making us wait for 3 hours and 22 minutes extra. Exhausting flights both to Albuquerque from Houston and from Houston to Boston. Poor communication. Poor planning ahead. Very dissatisfied. Going with Jet Blue from now on. They never disappoint, even if there was a delay in flight."
Cons: "Ended up sitting on the tarmac for 30-40 minutes. Many people almost missed or did miss flights."
Pros: "Absolutely nothing."
Cons: "Both flights were INCREDIBLY delayed. First, the flight from San Jose was delayed 1.5 hours because they were "waiting for the aircraft." After everybody finally boarded the plane an announcement was made that somehow the luggage crew had damaged the cargo hold, and that everybody would have to deplane. It would take 45 minutes for maintenance crew to arrive to assess the situation. People got up, got their luggage out of the overhead bins, and started moving to the front of the plane. The pilot then came back on the intercom and told everyone they would have to return to their seats. Roughly an hour later we finally took off. It would have been the decent thing to do to AT LEAST offer the passengers something (i.e. comp drinks or snacks), but the cheapskates at United DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE. Multiple people missed their connections. Fast forward to IAH--> SAT. Another late flight. This time, everybody boarded the plane only to be informed that due to a problem with the plane's computer everybody would have to sit on the plane while they "rebooted" its computers. This was done TWICE. UNITED AIRLINES, GET IT TOGETHER. There is a very good reason you are consistently ranked one of the WORST US-flagged carriers, which makes you one of the MOST HATED AIRLINES ON THE PLANET. I really and truly pray that the US airlines and their lobbyists lose their battle to prevent foreign flagged carriers from operating within the US, because you all deserve to go bankrupt."
Pros: "I like everything!!everyone was so nice that it makes you feel so welcome and that you're like in home!!!"
Pros: "Handicapped assistance was great. Our connections at from between flights was 35 minutes. We had to go from terminal B to C by wheelchair for my Dad then by electric cart to get to our next gate. We barely made it. They were boarding when we got to the gate. On our flight to our destination we were given the wrong gate and terminal. We actually were supposed to go from terminal E to B at opposite ends of the airport. We missed our connectio and had to be teschuled 6 hrs later. Then that flight was cancelled and we had to pay for a hotel and missed a whole day of our trip. These connections were paired by United no by individual choice. IAH is a very difficult airport to travel through. I won't fly United again!"
Pros: "I've taken a number of airlines, but none as bad as United. I get bad weather, I wouldn't want to go up in a plane in a thunderstorm regardless of the circumstances....but I spent almost a day getting to my destination that should of only taken9 hours tops. Delay upon delay, arriving right when my next flight was leaving. Very rude staff, I saw an attendant yell at a mom and daughter like she was their mom. Non-apologetic to anyone. Their goal is to shove you in the plane and shove you out. Are they safe airline? Yes, they will get you to where you need to be...but not before they make your life hell. I don't normally do reviews on anything, but United still has me frustrated even a week later. I almost forgot, they did give $20 to eat. Do you know how expensive airport food is?"
Pros: "The crew was very nice as we got on."
Cons: "As usually United over booked and even though I brought my ticket in advance I some how did not have a seat assigned to me when I checked in. Most of the plane had boarded before I had a ticket in my hand. The agent was rude as she could be because I didn't understand how that's possible for me not to have a seat. I think that it's absolutely ridiculous that it's even possible to over sale a plane since there's obviously only a certain number of seats. I think it's ridiculous that people have to offer up their seat and take another flight, I chose a flight time because that's when I wanted to leave and get to where I was going for a reason. No other industry is allowed to treat their customers this way so why does the airline industry do it? Also there's no tv or movies for us to watch while in a 4 hour flight."
Pros: "crew, takeoff, landing and flight were good on each flight. no complaints there."
Cons: "from COS to FLL: first flight was late taking off. connecting flight was on time. this is a bad combination. i was literally seconds from missing my connecting flight, and that was after sprinting from one terminal to another. captain on the first flight announced that takeoff was delayed because they were waiting for flight charts to finish downloading. really? WELL THEN GET THERE 20 MINUTES EARLIER AND BE PREPARED TO LEAVE *ON TIME* SO THAT PASSENGERS DON'T MISS (OR NEARLY MISS) THEIR CONNECTIONS!!!"
Pros: "The staff was very friendly and accommodating"
Cons: "There was some sort of mix up with seat assignments two guys had the same seat assignment. The very nice gentleman who was sitting in my seat due this stood and allowed me to have my seat as it was on the isle and I was in boarding group 5 and my seat was all the way at the end by the bathrooms and needed to be able to stretch my legs into the isle. There was absolutely no leg room what so ever. The dude next to me spent the entire trip jabbing me in the side with his elbow so that he could access what little space I did have. I was unable to move my legs because every two seconds the entire plane was trekking to the back to use the bathroom, because while there was a third bathroom on the plane towards the front, for whatever reason nobody seemed to be using it."
Pros: "Roomy seat area, lots of entertainment options, crew was pretty good - one flight attendance a little sassy - but not sure if it was supposed to be funny. I thought it was - so I put it as a positive and she got it done and kept offering water."
Cons: "Boarding was the main issue. There was some kind of extra security feature where they wanted to check our boarding passes - which is fine! however, the way the boarding crew handled those operations was embarrassing. Basically no organization of the lines, and when it was time to board, they could not handle the organization of people that had already been checked security wise (and ready to board) - and people that weren't security checked. For instance, I had my boarding pass ready (had already been security checked) and was ready to board. But there was no indication as to which line to get into, so when I asked, I was demeaned - and told to go to "zone 3! You are boarding group 3!" There was no way to know where this was, and just before (when I was getting security checked on my boarding pass) the woman told me to "just stay in the line that I was in - because boarding would take place soon". There was no way to know which lines were zone 1, 2, 3, or still checking boarding passes for security reasons. Once my zone 3 line reached the point to get scanned to board, eventually people had also been in the wrong line and were ready to board, so 4 lines of people who were just as confused as I was, started to merge. This is going slowly of course, people in zone 1 (who thought they were in the zone 1 line but instead were still stuck in the boarding pass security line) were upset because zone 3 was boarding and they weren't - and this is while the staff is getting angry at people NOT boarding - because they are stuck in these other lines. It was quite disorganized and I think the staff could have handled the entire process better. Not sure if I ordered the wrong option but food could have used an upgrade."
Pros: "Except for the boarding process, the flight went smoothly, the crew was friendly and I had no problems."
Cons: "The boarding process was confusing. I was issued a boarding pass with "see agent" instead of a seat assignment listed. When I saw the United agent at the gate I was told "don't worry we'll find you a seat." I was confused because I felt that I was treated as if I was flying stand by when in reality I booked my ticket in advance. Everything worked out in the end--I was one of the last on the plane but I got a seat and had no issues with finding a place for my carry-on--however, I prefer having an assigned seat to avoid the anxiety of not knowing what is going on during the boarding process."
Cons: "I wanted to get on the earlier flight so after checking in I proceeded to the gate to speak with the gate agent about getting on the earlier 11:55 flight. She was no where to be found. Other members of my party that I had traveled with appeared and said they got on the earlier flight because they were looking for people to switch and offering it down stairs where you initially checked in. No body had offered it to me which infuriates me because now I could not go back downstairs through security. I was stuck upstairs waiting for someone in charge to appear. The gate agent arrived 1 minutes before the flight was supposed to board. She told me that it was too late to switch flights and that it should have been done down stairs when I initially checked in. She said they were looking for people which really irked me because no one had offered it to me. She then told me that she gave me the wrong bag tag and switched it out for the correct one. The air port was hot, crowded and smelly. The plane ride was over all okay. We did not start boarding on time (my tickecg said boarding would begin at 12 and we didn't start until about 12:45) and we left a few minutes late. Other than that I was grateful there was a TV on the plane"
Pros: "Everything really was superb. Food rated low because of a measly biscuit on a 6 hour flight. Entertainment rated low because I even had to pay to gain access to the flight tracker. And, as far as airlines go, comfort should've been 5 stars, but I really could have used a back pillow. Or even a back pillow option (had I asked an attendant - all of whom were awesome). PS. Kayak's regular emails kept me unusually updated on flight progress and their communication was the main factor in my decision to complete this survey."
Pros: "On the trip from Des Moines to Houston, timeliness of flight was great. The boarding went smooth and was done quickly. The crew were friendly and courteous. Overall the first half of the trip was fine."
Cons: "I was extremely disappointed in the condition of my luggage when I picked it up plane side. The wheel was broke off and all the pockets had been unzipped and it appeared they had been rummaged through. I had to drag my bag through the terminal. I spoke with 3 individuals with United who referred me onto the next and each unwilling as the previous to help. I myself am in customer service and would never treat my customers the way I was treated by the employees representing your Airline. I would go above and beyond to make the sure that the customers experience was a great one in spite of the unfotunate incident so they would return. I have never flown United before, and I will not consider your airline in the future."
Pros: "I guess that the only thing I liked is that there was no problem during the flight."
Cons: "I did not like that the check in in Mexico started late. They took a while to start boarding the plane. I do not like that United now charges for luggage. Mine was small. I did not like that the seats were uconfortable. I am short and there is not much leg room. There was no entertainment. When we landed un Houston it took forever to get off the plane. It was unclear where to get my luggage. I had to leave it to pass through TSA to run and try to catch my flight from Houston to Chicago. When I arrived at my gate I got there just in time because they were starting to board the plane. I was uconfortable sitting between two men. I traveled alone. When we landed in Chicago, took forever to get to the gate so we can get off the plane. There was no entertainment, at least for me. My phone was way low in battery and ai couldn't watch anything."
Pros: "Text and email alerts."
Cons: "Everything. We arrived 2 hours early and my daughter worked very hard to fit everything she needed into a carry on bag which was not easy. Her flight was delayed, delayed again, delayed again, and then cancelled. She was flying alone and should have received top priority and been one of the first called up to figure out how to get her to her destination. But that did not happen. She didn't know what to do at first then got in the long line of people and waited her turn. ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT HER ONLY OPTION WAS TO FLY OUT ON A LATER FLIGHT TO HOUSTON WHICH WOULD MAKE HER MISS HER CONNECTING FLIGHT ANT THEN STAY THE NIGHT ALONE IN HOUSTON AND WAIT THE ENTIRE NEXT DAY THERE UNTIL 9 THE NEXT NIGHT TO CATCH HER FINAL FLIGHT TO SALT LAKE CITY. I cannot even explain how angry and horrified I was that your airline thought that was acceptable for an unaccompanied minor! Clearly this one option that was offered to her by you was not accepted. Then she calls and a guy tells her he can get her there and is going to book her new flights.....only to get disconnected and never called her back. After that there was no one to be found at the desks for your airline. At this point I had driven back to the airport (spent hours driving and waiting) when a wonderful lady from a different airline helped my daughter out and got her on a different airline. However she had to check her bag due to her seating after all the hard work she put in to not checking her bag."
Pros: "It got me home."
Cons: "Boarding was terrible. Couldn't hear the PA's for boarding. Didn't get the boarding group thing since there was absolutely no division of where groups should be and no room for the group lines until it backs into the wall. Upon boarding I noticed we were in the center seating which was not what I had booked directly with United. When I had originally called, I explained there were four of us and the explained we could have 2 and 2 by a window but in separate groups or 2 and 2 behind the others in the middle rows. I wanted the window seats. Upon getting the res notification I noticed it was in the center so I called to have it switched to the window rows as previously requested and he said no problem and he would change them. I guess I should have followed up again since once on the plane we were in the center seats. I explained to one of the flight attendants since this was kind of a big deal. She was going to check with the gate agent and get back to me. I never heard from her again even though she knew where we were sitting. I guess she was busy and forgot! The four of us were tired and fell asleep which caused us to miss the meal which was served very early in the flight. No problem until later in the flight I asked the female flight attendant in the back if I could get a meal or some snacks for my daughter since she was now hungry. She told me she would check on it when the seat belt sign was turned off. At this time it had been smooth for quite some time and many passengers and other flight attendants were up and walking around. So if this fa was so concerned shouldn't she be telling everyone else to sit down instead of sitting in the back READING A BOOK? I still didn't have a problem as we patiently waited until she just didn't acknowledge us. Finally, I made the same request to a male fa while the same female was right behind him. He was great and came back soon with a meal I believe he may have retrieved from 1st class. He said the original ones in the back had been sitting to long. Great job to him. Sorry I do not have names. The Lufthansa crew on the way over to Frankfurt worked nearly nonstop, this crew hardly worked. Not impressed at all. By the way, I never write reviews."
Cons: "I got to the airport 40 minutes early. The flight was out at 6:20, I was there by 5:40. They did not let me print out a boarding pass. I could see the gate from the security line and the security line was EMPTY. There was no reason for them not to let me get on the plane, but they ended up scheduling me for a flight to Denver with the connecting flight in the morning- delaying my trip 24 hrs and charging me an extra 125$!!! I ended up paying an extra 85$ to American and was able to get to PHX that afternoon! The ladies at United were straight up RUDE too. When I told the lady at the counter my name she rolled her eyes."
Pros: "Flight times were accurate."
Cons: "As soon as we arrived to the airport, checking in was the biggest hassle. We were harassed by a guy working the ticket counter named Guilermo. He was EXTREMELY rude and continued to harass us and followed us after we checked in and we're already at the security check point. It's $25 to check a bag but if you check 2 bags their website says its $35 for both. We were charged $50 to check two bags. Even after Guilermo told both of us that they wouldn't charge us for the second bag to be checked. The guy that checked our bags was also extremely rude and clearly didn't care. Once we started boarding the flight several passengers had to check their bags at the gate because there "wasn't enough room on the plane". Not really sure how this was fair since we had just paid $50 to check two bags and were lied to about it when several people just checked their bags for free. We chose to fly with United because of the good deals they have on flights but after our experience I would MUCH rather pay more money and have a lot better customer service. We had such a horrible experience it almost ruined our first day of our week long trip. I'm. It really sure if it's obvious to the employees of United but traveling for most people is a very special occasion. This occasion happen to be a very special one to us as it was a family vacation and seeing family we haven't seen in years. The poor attitudes and rude demeanor from the United staff is all we could think about even after we reached our destination."
Pros: "My flight was overbooked, and I was in one of the later boarding groups. When I got on the plane, someone else was in my seat, and apparently had been told by the crew to sit there. There were no extra seats visible. Clearly upset, a very nice flight attendant brought me back to the galley and chatted with me (not reacting negatively to my less-than-stellar attitude given the situation) while another went to "handle it." Not sure what magic she worked, but I ended up with a window seat in an exit row with lots of leg room. An unfortunate situation was handled very well and I'm really appreciative!"
Cons: "I couldn't get the WiFi to work and my seat didn't recline (because it was an exit row)."
Pros: "The safety videoing ."
Cons: "I'm handicapped and use a wheelchair as my main mode of travel then a walking stick for short runs. I didn't see even a basic attempt with assistance from ground crew helping my wife break down or assemble my chair. After door shuts plenty of empty seats in the economy plus and some in first, when I asked the attendant they were real quick to whip out the iPad charges to upgrade. Those seats went empty I stayed cramped. Kayak didn't show a box to check if you are disabled and need special seating or cart transport at airport."
Pros: "Seats were okay as far as comfort level"
Cons: "This flight was overbooked. I had to be back at work the next day, so I really needed to take it. The gate agents wouldn't tell me what was going on, only that the flight was overbooked and that they were "trying to get me a seat." I stood there while all of the groups boarded, waiting for my ticket. I was the last person given a ticket. By the time I finally got to board, all overhead space was taken, so I had to gate check my bag. And then someone had taken the seat I was given, so I had to ask him to move, and he started crying (child). He cried for 20 minutes, so that was fun. Also, this was a red eye - I really wanted to sleep, but right as I was dozing off, the flight attendants turned on the lights for drink service. Overall, just a really poor experience and very hard to sleep."
Cons: "Our plane was delayed leaving Grand Rapids. Once in Houston there was no gate available causing another 10 minute delay. All bags were required to be checked plane side so once we finally got off the plane it took another 10 minutes to get our bags. Many passengers had tight connections and had to rush to their next flight. My connection was already tight as it was - and I had to go to a completely different terminal very far from where I was to catch it. Five of us were on that flight connecting to San Diego. We finally made it to the gate. The plane was still there but the door was closed so we were not allowed to board. It was the last flight out so we were stranded in Houston overnight. This caused me to miss a very important medical appointment this morning - and to have to cancel client sessions leading to a significant loss of income."
Cons: "Original flight was cancelled the night before due to aircraft maintenance. Then too find out that United was only flying 1 plane per day from POS but when purchasing the ticket its listing multiple flights is TERRIBLE. The unorganized, under staffed situation in the airport that had NO answers or explanations for people was TERRIBLE. Once on a rescheduled flight having to sit on a plane for nearly 3hrs due to the flight being completely full with passenager and baggage that the required amount of fuel couldnt be added other wise we would have been over weight, not having enough lunches and beverages for all passenagers, missing my connecting flight and also having my luggage left behind and having to wait another day to recieve it. I was in the airport from 430am and didnt make it home to CLE until 10pm......ABSOLUTLYTERRIBLE!!!"
Cons: "My first flight was delayed by an hour and 20 min. I arrived at Dallas for my connector to Austin, 25 min before my departure time. I could have made it, however, the plane taxi'd at the gate for at least 10 min, then the door wouldn't open. When I finally got off, I sprinted to my next gate, thinking they may hold it for a few minutes as there were many people connecting on that flight to Austin, but instead they did the opposite. When I arrived there were other people waiting who had arrived 10 min before the departure time (also from a delayed flight) and the doors were already closed. There was no representative at the gate to even tell us this, until we had waited over 10 min, and when he arrived, he said the doors were closed, and all of us were too late. Why would you close the doors early, knowing that other connectors were coming in. Additionally, on my return trip, my flight was cancelled, and I never received a reason for its cancellation, just an automatic rebooking that put me back in New York a day late. I had to be on the phone for an hour, rebooking a flight that United didn’t have. They instead put me on an American airlines flight last minute that I barely made. This wouldn’t have been so bad if this wasn’t the second time this exact scenario occurred within two months, when my siblings attempted to return home for the Christmas holidays. United is terrible."
Cons: "I flew to Charlotte, NC last week from Houston with my husband for a funeral. The flight there went smoothly and we used the United app to check in and get our boarding passes. When it came time to check in for our flight home my husband was able to get his boarding pass, but they said mine was unavailable. Obviously concerned I called United. After being on hold for over an hour I was able to speak to a representative. I was told that I hadn't show up for my flight to Charlotte... so they had canceled the returning flight. Not only was I on that flight my boarding pass was scanned twice (one at security and once during boarding). The representative then told me to go to the airport the next day and "try" to explain what happened. I don't know if this was some sort of glitch in the system, but I was very concerned and upset that someone could be on a flight with no record of them being on the plane... and that I was having to spend 2 hours trying to figure out if I could go home after a very stressful day... during a time when I should have been with my family. The next day I had to show up the the airport extra early while the representative there tried to figure out how to reactivate my ticket. Overall, an awful experience... I don't think I will be flying with United again anytime soon."
