Top tips for finding cheap flights to Indonesia

  • Book at least 4 weeks before departure in order to get a below-average price.
  • High season is considered to be January, November and December. The cheapest month to fly from the United States is April.
  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Indonesia flight deals.
  • If you are coming to Indonesia from the U.S., consider arriving through Banten, the town where Soekarno Hatta International Airport (CGK), the country’s main airport that serves the greater Jakarta sits. The airport is a base of multiple flights operating to major parts of the country, thus making it easy and convenient to visit other areas.
  • Those who are keen to arrive in Indonesia through a city that exudes luxury and elegance should consider landing at Juanda Airport (SUB) in Surabaya. This airport puts you close to the country’s most famous shops, restaurants, and entertainment spots, making it easy to go on a shopping spree and still explore the vibrant nightlife.
  • July and August are the peak holiday months in Indonesia. During this time, the sunny weather coincides with the European summer holidays, making it ideal to explore the beaches and still retreat to the bars in the evening. Therefore, fares, accommodation facilities, and paid-entry attractions increase dramatically.
  • Most flights to Indonesia from the U.S. involve a layover either in Abu Dhabi (AUH), Istanbul (IST), or Doha (DIA). The three major airlines plying this route make stopovers in their respective capitals, with Qatar Airways connecting through Doha, Turkish Airlines stopping in Istanbul, and Etihad Airways making a layover in Abu Dhabi. Endeavor to book these flights with layovers as they come with cheaper tickets.
  • Indonesia has many cities, meaning that you will require connecting flights to tour some of them. To this end, it is useful to choose airlines that run through their hubs to provide easy linkage to your preferred destination. For instance, Qatar Airways operates its hub at Hamad International Airport (DOH), Doha, and is likely to meet your needs.
  • If you’re planning a flight from the US to Indonesia, the archipelago has over 6,000 inhabited islands for you to enjoy between the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Regardless of which ones you choose, your adventure will begin on the island of Java and its major airport: Soekarna Hatto International Airport (CGK), or Jakarta Airport.
  • West of Java is the island of Sumatra where you can visit the cities of Palembang, Padang and Medan. Jakarta Airport is closest to Sumatra and therefore is a good point of departure to these cities. However, if you’re going to Banda Aceh on the northern tip, you should consider flying into Banda Aceh Airport (BTJ).
  • The islands east of Java include the Lesser Sunda Islands of Bali, Sumbawa and Timor that stretch out towards northern Australia. If you wish to plan an excursion to explore them, it’s better to make Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) or Denpasar Airport in Bali your point of origin and island hop from there.
  • The island of Borneo shares part of its surface with Malaysia, but the greater portion of it (Kalimantan) can be discovered after your flight from the US to Indonesia. Whether you arrive at Jakarta Airport or Denpasar Airport, you can ferry across the Java Sea or take a short flight to Tjilik Riwut Airport (PKY) in Palangkaraya.
  • The Moluccas (Maluku) refer to the group of islands in eastern Indonesia from Sulawesi to New Guinea. These two are the biggest of them and are easily accessible with a local flight from Java or Bali to Hasanuddin Airport (UPG) in Sulawesi or Sentani Airport (DJJ) in New Guinea.

Pros: "The seat was comfortable, the food was delicious and the aircraft was clean."
Cons: "Boarding was awful. The staff definitely need better training at adapting with the Covid 19 situation. Especially, when it comes to unexpected occurrences regarding test certificates and sudden new regulations. Not everything is always black and white and not everyone has the same capacity to afford rebooking flights or re-testing. Treatment of foreigners in general at the LAX airport, on my flight at least, were unprofessional and inconsiderate. I generally like flying with Japan Airlines but after what I have seen and experienced personally I’m not so sure it is still one of my number one airlines to fly with anymore."

I generally like flying with Japan Airlines but after what I have seen and experienced personally I’m not so sure it is still one of my number one airlines to fly with anymore."
Pros: "The coach seats were larger than seats for domestic flights. The windows were dimmable for optimal lighting."
Cons: "The armrests did not go up all the way, which made it difficult to maximize comfort with my travel partner."
Cons: "Business class seats not very long if you are tall. Western meal option is not really very western. Crew is a little too efficient- got woken up 90 minutes before landing to clear the mattresses. Lots of announcements- a bit too much. On time, and quick to respond to requests. Sake was good as was the ramen."
Pros: "Crew was amazingly nice, friendly and very helpful..."

Cons: "No vegetarian options on the main meal menu"
Pros: "While many other airlines are cutting down on their service quality and amount of food on their flights, Japan Airlines has done the reverse: offer excellent food and great service at every tier, including economy. We took a flight from NY to Tokyo and felt like it was one of the best long haul flights we have taken."
Pros: "Crew was amazing. They were friendly and kind. Very helpful. Made sure I was comfortable and made sure the area was clean and safe."
Cons: "In light of COVID-19 this the only airline flying out of Bangkok April 3 2020 very good service"
Pros: "Everything was great!"

Pros: "Excellent service from the cabin crew."
Cons: "The Japanese (Washoku) breakfast was not as good as I expected."

Cons: "More variety of options for the vegan meals..."
Pros: "Meal, crew"
Cons: "1. inside temperature was so cold -especially at the 3rd route from la to tokyo -. 2. Economy seats are not declined, which means less pereonal space. 3. The worst is in-flight entertainment system, UI is so poorly developed, most contents do not provide english subtitles."
Pros: "Entire crew members, food, hospitality & aircraft."

Cons: "It took a while for them to serve the first meal and I don't know that there was a need for a second meal. I would have preferred to sleep."
Pros: "The crew was great, friendly and helpful. The food was good and the overall service on the plane was great."
Cons: "Our flight was delayed from Los Angeles and we did not make our connecting flight in Tokyo. The next option they had was a full 24 hours later so we ended up taking the train. I tried to make adjustments to one of my flights for the return home and was told that is not an option."
Pros: "The help desk employees who helped me rebook my flight."

Pros: "Boarding was orderly, restroom is clean & tidy, good legroom beteeen seats, landing was smooth"
Cons: "Orderly boarding"
Cons: "The seat smells like it was not clean. They did not serve snack between lunch and dinner. You need to get it at their station. We were really thirsty and a bit hungry..."
Pros: "Crew was the best part. They were very friendly and helpful."
Cons: "Very limited English movie selections for such a long flight. Could not turn Chinese subtitles off for some. Very distracting. Seats in economy (according to online comparisons) are some of the best in the industry but I felt extremely cramped and uncomfortable for the entire flight. Long haul flights should not have seats this small. Also, for health reasons, all seats should have foot rests. It shouldn't be about money, people can die from sitting like that for so long. Also, the food that I could eat was good, but there should be a no fish option. You have a lot of diet types available to choose from but none guarantee no fish. The process for requesting a special meal online was not clear and confusing."
Pros: "The service, the special vegetarian meal, the cute 'Hello Kitty' themed amenities."
Cons: "The inflight entertainment. There could have been more variety, classic movies, etc."
Pros: "N/a"
Cons: "Booked/ paid/ and got refused to fly by Evaair as they and Justfly didn’t process the ticket properly even after received money for a month."
