Our plane was defective so had to be replaced. This is fine, I certainly am willing to wait for a new plane if it means not blowing up over the ocean. The problem was how little the attendants at the gate communicated the situation to us. What should have been a brief layover became a 12 hour nightmare. The gate attendants did finally issue meal vouchers but they waited until 10 minutes before all the restaurants closed and only issued $10 a person. This is enough to buy a hot dog at an airport... We were told there wouldn't be any rescheduling of missed connections until we were "airborne". This resulted in mass panic and confusion upon reaching our destination. We were told to go to the service desk, half an airport away, but once the entire passenger contents of the plane arrived at that far flung service desk, we were mostly turned away to seek help at individual gates. This lack of communication meant I missed the next next available connecting flight and now have a further six hour layover. I understand accidents happen and planes can break down but the nearly complete lack of care and customer attention is, frankly, disappointing. I've now had nearly an entire day added to my travel time. If I'd been willing to loose that time I would have paid $600 less for my ticket. United finally offered a token of their appreciation : a $100 e-voucher. I have spent more than that on food and coffee in airports for the past two days while trying to survive until my next connections.

The crew from gate to landing was very helpful and met all my required needs. I didn't have to worry if my questions would be answered or if there was space for my luggage as they attended to all the things I could have wondered about.

Newer planes are more compact than I would like, and the aisles are very narrow. When the carts move up and down the aisles, they have a tendency to bump people even if the flight attendants are being extremely careful.

Due to my missed connection, American booked me on the earliest flight to Dayton the next morning via United.

The United flight's aircraft was cannibalized for another flight as our plane was only slightly more than 1/2 full. Our later aircraft were cannibalized twice more, until we finally got a spare aircraft after a two hour delay.

The only decent point was the food. Not great but at least edible.

Since check in in São Paulo was a complete chaos. There were only 2 people helping on check in (in machines) and these people were still not helping people (like me) with questions about on how to do check in in those machines. On the other hand to dispatch the bags there were almost 8 attendants to receive the bags. Ridiculous! I’ve tried calling American Airlines and Latam several times to assign a seat for me and they swore there were only middle seats but I know how airlines work to make extra money on these seats. At the end, they only gave me a middle seat option and I had to take I.t of course. On the plane I realized there were dozens of empty seats and yet they made sure not give them to me or anyone else. Unbelievable! Unfortunately I still have to use AA on my way back to Brazil. After this, I’ll chose another airlines for sure. Also, the 3,4,3 arrangement is ridiculous: there’s no corridor space making people touching you everything someone passes by your seat. And boy! Those seats are so uncomfortable and there’s no way to incline the chair so you can even have a little rest (because it’s impossible to even sleep on those seats). The crew were simply doing their jobs! No pleasure! No smile! No engaging with anyone unfortunately! They looked miserable and I asked for water and the flight attendant NEVER brought me anything. Seriously! Water is free!

On two of the legs of the trip they notice I was a tall person with long legs and upgraded me to seats with more leg room!! I didn't even ask. Thank you.

On the way back there were open seats with extra leg room and I asked the gate attendant if it was possible to switch my seat to one with more room and they said they only could if I paid extra.

Seat assignment

I'm not a pilot but I've flown enough to know what turbulence is. I was one of the first to board and asked the flight attendant if there was food for purchase or any type of snack as my blood sugar was so low. I was also in pain and needed to take my medication. It was a 40+ minute flight however when one is handicapped you are at the mercy of the person taking you to the gate it's not like you can stop and look for a place to eat. It wasn't until we were almost at the destination we received a plastic cup and offered a sip of water. I sat right in front of the flight attendant and she could see my discomfort yet didn't offer a bag of peanuts or a drink

Passengers were not told what was going on, or the reasoning for our plane being so late. 3 hour delay boarding, and also sat on runway for another 1.5 hours before takeoff. Once landed in Dayton, could not pull up to a gate for another 45 minutes. So much wasted time. I purposely picked an early flight so I could have more time with my family. Had to cancel my family dinner plans that night due to an extra 5 hours wasted.

Gate agent did not start forcing check in, which caused delay in boarding. Ground crew did not stock aircraft until 20 minutes after scheduled departure time. and DFW did the usual 20 minute taxi and then 15 minute hold prior to take off.

Plane was old and dirty, seat pocket had junk in it. Seat was broken and couldn’t stay up. In flight movies were from few years back with a center tv and no head rest screen. Crew on overseas flights tend to be older in age and less tolerant..much better on continental on the same route.

Nothing, pilot was polite but also very frustrated

Original flight was cancelled. After 6 hour delay. Second flight arrived to Dayton and sat on Tarmac for 1.5 hours. Sweltering heat, idiots working the gate, full plane. United owes these poor folks a lot. My 80 year old mother will never fly again due to this trip

The pilots and flight attendants were very good.

We departed an hour late with no explanation why. The plane felt rather shaky and old. The Dayton airport was under staffed and it took us 30 minutes to taxi to air stairs instead of a jet bridge.

Plane sat on runway & subsequently returned to gate due to mechanical issue resulting in 2.5 hour departure delay. Boarding was chaotic - flight attendant said procedure not consistent with UA practices. Food only available is purchased from UA, and what food was available ran out (I never did get fed on the 11+ hour flight). Cabin very cold.

Flight delayed missed connecting flight. Second flight delayed missed connecting flight. Overnight in airport expected unless united pays for hotel. Absolutely miserable. Paid 430$ one way for a 25 hour flight. Will never fly United again.

Free movies, and crew were helpful once we were in the air

Gate agent did not start forcing check in, which caused delay in boarding. Ground crew did not stock aircraft until 20 minutes after scheduled departure time. and DFW did the usual 20 minute taxi and then 15 minute hold prior to take off.

Due to my missed connection, American booked me on the earliest flight to Dayton the next morning via United.

The United flight's aircraft was cannibalized for another flight as our plane was only slightly more than 1/2 full. Our later aircraft were cannibalized twice more, until we finally got a spare aircraft after a two hour delay.

The crew from gate to landing was very helpful and met all my required needs. I didn't have to worry if my questions would be answered or if there was space for my luggage as they attended to all the things I could have wondered about.

Newer planes are more compact than I would like, and the aisles are very narrow. When the carts move up and down the aisles, they have a tendency to bump people even if the flight attendants are being extremely careful.

They delayed the flight because they had no flight attendant. They delayed it every 15 minutes from 450 to 715 and then just stopped updating us at all. We all waited with no food or drink or any news. At 815 they cancelled it and sent the whole plane to customer service to wait in line. Most of us had to stay in Wash and leave the next day. They offered us nothing except to rebook the flight. The boarding crew was laughing and joking the whole time with zero regard for our discomfort or ruining connecting flights! Never again.
