The hotel is in a very bad location. When you step out of the building, you are immediately surrounded by lots of local people trying to sell you something, ask for money, etc. There is also a local market right near the hotel, which doesn't add beauty to the place. The building is currently being repaired, and you can be woken up around 7-8 a.m. by the noise.
The best thing for this hotel is the wonderful location: 5min walk to the north gate of the Forbidden city and Jingshan Park, close to the local market... but a bit far away from the metro (15-20min by feet). This is a newly established ''4-star'' hotel, without swimming pool or gym, and the staff of the reception are not so skillful in service aside from check-in or out. You can book an organized tour to the Great wall or somewhere else from the hotel, but be careful before you pay, do ask what is included in the trip, otherwise you could be end up in shopping instead of travelling. Room cleaning service was fair, but sometimes they throw your things away cuz they think it was garbage... Anyway, for people who want to stay in a real 4-star hotel, this is definitely not a good choice, otherwise it's okay for bagpackers.
best location, near to most famous park. pleseant staff the bed is rather hard
Good location near Forbidden city, but It's very difficult to find hotel in hutong not only for us but for our Chinese taxi-driver too. Every of our three days in Beijing we had some problems to find the hotel. There were too many surprises when we arrived (room on the 1st floor but we asked 2nd or 3rd floor, no free breakfast was included but there had to be in our booking list, too expensive prolongation of the room from 12:00 till 20:00). That's why we have to change hotel.
Location was excellent and the area was safe. Air condition in the room was also excellent. The bedss are really hards, you can not sleep in them...
Need n tidy Those items under the stair case should be kept at other appropriate place...an eye sore.
Good location. it's on a street that i can find a supermarket and all type of restaurant with fair price. Every evening there are a lot of goods/fruits selling along the street. good to explore the local hu tong life. It's not far from GuGong. the room is clean & quiet. The internet never work. housekeeping staff will wake me up every morning to ask if I need room service. It is really annoying. The front desk is quite unorganized. the day I reached they told me they did not received my booking @ booking.com, and I heard other tourist complaining about the wrong phone number provided by hotel caused them difficulties to find the hotel. Overall it's OK but don't expect it as a 4 star hotel. maybe 3 star.
The hotel was located near the forbidden city and Tianamen square. it was cheap. The food was bad. The bathroom was flooded after you toke a shower. The hotelstaf doesn't speak english, they use google translate! For some reason we had to pay a 2nd deposite in the middle of the night. There is no metro nearby. Despite the name Parkview, there is no park nearby, just a smelly alley.
Location Language skills of personel
I stayed for 3 days but i had bit by fleet and a dirty room, its very uncomfortable- The staff refused changed room when i told them i got bit by fleet, i was not able to check out next day-
Good English of the lobby personnel, perfect location beside Forbidden City and inside old Beijing We think that breakfast should be better organized and not so poor
Position was ok but far from Metro station. I had a "deluxe" room, which was definitely worth the money. I reccomend to spend a small difference for a much better room. Restaurants were not so inviting or appealing.
The service men are always ready. The location is close to Forbidden City and Jin Shan Park, 8 mins walk. Breakfast is too expensive based on the quality. There are many Chinese breakfast providers outside the hotel. If western breakfast is preferred, there are several inside hotel and one outside, 40RMB or so. Hair cut is 128 RMB which is crazy!! Go out to the local streets, you will find many charge only 50 RMBs....with shampooing.
Close to many tourist sites, room is small but sufficient, free internet access
Very close to center of BeiJIng
There is a service provided next to the lobby regarding tours and airport limo; the receptions can communicate in English. The room was rather small, should include an option if the rate is to include breakfast, no shuttle service provided by the hotel to the airport, the map of Beijing which we thought was free, is not; the check in service counter was rather slow.
The absence of external noises in the room
Hotel staff was very helpful and could communicate in English
Nothing. Location is bad and ugly, just at a corner of village nearby Forbidden City. Room is gloomy and feeling of scary. Not for business traveller. Price paid is not comparable with actual situation.
Location, rooms, transportation facilities, services
Perfect location, right in local neighbourhood but also very close to the Forbidden City (Palace Museum). The receptionist was not helpful.
The hotel rooms were quite comfortable, clean and had a nice window view. The bathroom was also spacious and well designed. The front desk staff spoke relatively good English although there were times we could not really understand some of them. But overall, quite good. Just because the hotel was located near the Palace Museum, we thought we got a real good location. However, it was quite far from the subway. Although there were bus stops nearby, we didnt really know what routes they used. Overall, this is the biggest disadvantage of the Shatan.
I was delighted to stay at this hotel. The location is excellent, in the Beijing downtown, close to the Forbidden City and Jigshan Park. The staff is very friendly, they also speak an acceptable english. Breakfast was also excellent at low price (compared to european hotels), I missed only some diary products. I recommend this hotel to everyone who want to visit Beijing at a budget price.
very able & helpful staff
Location Noisy street, workers start at 5 A.M. even on Sundays.
Staff was very healpful, and the location was great.
Lacation.. Far from train station and shopping areas
It is an interesting hotel close to the Beihai Park. The street however is difficult to be found by taxi drivers and the close environment is not very clean with to many low quality boutiques. The fact that the current and the warm water were cut for 10 hours in day time though I paid fully comfort.
Staff are very helpfull and the hotel is next door to the Forbidden City The room is less than fair size and what bother me the most is the persistence of the musty smell
The welcome was excellent, we were given an english map of Beijing and a guide of what to visit in the city and above all of how to go there from the hotel (bus, subway): it was very convenient! The English speaking Staff was always avalaible and willing to help if you had a question about Beijing. The prices of extras are reasonable (beverage and food) and both Wifi and Internet with computers are free. The location is great even though far from the subway and the design of the hotel is really nice and typical.
It was cheap and the one staff was trying to help me out about my asking. the other one? please smile. looked very angry and attitude was not good at all. Towels are needed to be changed. It was dirty.I do not know how many staffs are there. However, one of staff is very annoying.please smile. looked very angry and attitude was not good at all.
Great atmosphere and great staff
excellent service hot room
The staff were very helpful and always friendly giving intelligent advice. We'd especially like to thank Rick. As all rooms were around a courtyard, at night and in the morning,it could be a little noisy in some rooms.
The hotel staff: very kind and willing to help at ay time. And very good level of English too!
Best youth hostel we've stayed in in China. Not the best equipment (no tv or airco in bedrooms), but the place feels like home, and the staff really, really is helpful.
The staff, especially Rick, make the place. Great advice on activities and transport. It's in a hutong, so expect the location to be basic, but having said that, it's also extremely central. Also, you can't flush loo paper!
Beautiful courtyard residence in close proximity (walking distance) to the forbidden city and two parks. Very helpful and welcoming staff, completely fluent in English. No need to hesitate with your questions, you can trust their advice and recommendations. There are cheaper hostels in Beijing, but they probably do not offer the quality of service and comfort that 'City Walls' provides. Budget hotels, some of which may offer comparable room rates, will surely not offer you the care and attendance, nor the friendly atmosphere.
The super helpful staff and very homey feel. We also had the ability to book tickets through the front desk to the Great Wall and the train station which was very helpful. Nice centralized location and felt very authentic in a Hutong. Highly Recommended! No subways near the hotel
