Cons:Price was not as advertised. Was quoted $12 and ended up paying $98.
Pros:Cars are usually newer.
Cons:I rented a car off the Kayak app for a good price but when I got to the Budget office in Mexico they sell you an EXPENSIVE insurance that you MUST buy. They offer you 3 options for insurance: cheap, medium and the expensive one. I went with the cheap one and the agent WOULD NOT let me pick that one after I told him about 5 times that I knew what I was doing. He started telling my girlfriend all these worse case scenarios to scare her and it worked. I went with it just so he'd shut up and let me leave with my (now scared gf) because of his "if you get kidnapped by the cartels" stories. As it was ahe was terrified of going down there and this pushy agent didn't help at all.
Cons:DO NOT RENT FROM THIS LOCATION! Would give negative stars for the horrible experience if possible. My wife and I were on our honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta and had planned some trips to nearby San Sebastian and Mascota for the day following our scheduled pickup with Budget. Friends had shared bad experiences of rental agents forcing additional insurance to make their commission, but I had never had such a terrible experience! The rental agent ("Antonio") behind the desk was standoffish from the get-go but he seemed to get extremely offended when I told him that I had coverage through my existing auto policy in Canada and vehicle replacement coverage through my credit card. He started to get angry with us so I decided to call my insurance agent and have her speak with him directly to explain that I have coverage in Mexico. He was extremely rude to her as well and didn't want anything to do with her. He then went on to say that he had no car for us and that we would not be able to get a car at Budget unless we purchased the additional insurance. The rental cost for the midsize vehicle on Kayak was $23.41 CAD total (including taxes and fees) for a 4 day rental. The agent wanted to charge us an additional $35 USD ($45 CAD) per day for insurance! He wasted over 5 hours of our honeymoon and round trip cab fare from our hotel to this location. I have used Budget many times in Canada for car, pickup truck and moving truck rentals but this experience left my wife and I extremely disappointed in Budget!
Cons:I didn't like that the price advertised was so deceiving (it was advertised at $2/day but ended up costing $50/day with only the required third party liability insurance). When I dropped off the car they claimed I had damaged it (a small nick on the far lefthand side of the windshield). The spot was so small I wouldn't have noticed if it was there when I picked up the car, but they claimed I needed to buy them a whole new windshield (about $200). They left me waiting in the lobby for 30-40 minutes before saying they were willing to take $40 for the damage. I have filed a formal complaint with Budget against this office and will never rent from Budget again.
Pros:The car itself was just fine.
Cons:The actual pickup location added about 100% in extra taxes and fees from what was both advertised and reserved. It literally doubled the cost of the car. Very, very misleading.
Cons:no directions on getting back to return car
Pros:The car was fine and the people in the Puerto Vallarta office spoke English which was nice. It was nice to be able to pick up in Puerto Vallarta and drop off in Guadalajara.
Cons:The one way fee of $200 seemed excessive but the fact that the mandatory insurance cost even more was totally unexpected. Although Mexican drivers are crazy so while expensive, the insurance is probably worth it if you get in an accident. It would have been nice to know the cost of the insurance ahead of time. It was unanticipated and cut into our budget.
Cons:All cost should be up front at the time of booking. The rate at which I booked for was astronomical after airport fees and insurance. At least with the flights a bump up to first class after getting rates isn't so bad, but with rentals, you still get the same horrible car.
Cons:When we arrived in puerto Vallarta they claimed the car we reserved was unavailable and tried to get us to rent a smaller car for more money. We asked to be taken back to the airport as their rental location is not even located on premises.
Pros:Car was clean
Cons:1. High-Pressure tactics about taking insurance... You are not obligated to take their insurance (Visa Cards often cover you), and they charge you 90% of the cost of the rental in INSURANCE - my car cost $200/day !!!!! It was just a VW Jetta.... 2. They refuse to rent you the car, unless you take the minimum insurance 3. They hold your CC hostage for many thousands of dollars, unless you take their insurance. 4. Rent from: Gecko or SIXT - honest and good people who INCLUDE the cost of the insurance in the price per day!!!
