I had a reservation and when they asked me to get their insurance policy, I told them that my credit card covers for it. The staff then said that they didn’t have any vehicles available. They want people to get their insurance by force. Don’t rent from them.Cons: Fire the Alamo entire staff there.

Listening to Daniel the scammer tell his coworker to get the smaller one so they make more money. I don’t speak much Spanish but I understand it. So listening to it happen in my face was horrible. When dropping the car off no one was there. It took me an extra 30 minutes just to find out I have to park the car in the parking lot and leave key and ticket in drop box behind counter. All the other companies had employees present but dollar did not... first and last time I use them. Even if I see a deal I will just pay more for the better customer service and better treatment.... Bottom line avoid dolar rental in Santiago Dominican Republic and use others

Cons: They wanted to charge me a lot more than what the Expedia reservation said. Almost double the amount! On top of that, they required you to add a $25 dollars per DAY insurance even after buying my own insurance online which covers up to 40k on international accidents.
Poor pick up / great returnPros: Joel Batista, the gentlemen that I returned the car to was simply amazing. He is very kind and always goes above and beyond to accommodate all clients.Cons: Ms. Marte, the attendant on duty when I picked up the car was extremely rude, sarcastic and very unprofessional. I have been renting from Ace for years at the same location and every time she is working at the time I pick up my rental she always makes a problem out nothing. I have dealt with many Ace attendant and never had a problem with any of them except for this particular person.

Can't rent from KAYAKPros: Nothing. I showed up at the airport and there were absolutely no vehicles available for me to get home at 3:00 am. Thankfully I was traveling with a group and they took me home.Cons: For the second time in as many trips when I get to the airport at 3:00 am my rental is not available, last April I rented through KAYAK and when I showed up to pick my vehicle all they had for me was a compact car in lieu of the small SVU that I reserved. Not only that, the next day I was responsible for returning the temporary rental back to one of their offices to then pick up my reserved rentals, so basically I wasted my first vacation day dealing with my rental. This time around, I said okay Alamo is definitely not the way to go so let me try ACE, but little did I know this was going to be even worst. After waiting for over 20 minutes to be helped, I was flat out told that my vehicle was not available and the only car available was a full size SUV that I would have to pay more for and I had to take their insurance as my Credit Card insurance was not enough for me to leave with the vehicle. So, this time around I was literally going to be stranded at the airport at 4:00 am unless I took the terms I was offered. Can you imagine, how I would have felt had this not been my country of origin, or if I wasn't traveling with family members that eventually took me home and helped me get a rental at a different place the very next morning. I would never, ever in my life rent from KAYAK again.

Not pleasantCons: They had me waiting 40 min at airport for pick-up. When he finally came around he mixed up my name and left after I told him I wasn't "Ruben" then he came back around when he called back and noticed he had the reservations mixed up. Secondly I bought and reserved everything online including insurance. So I had 2 insurance policy's, one from my credit card and the additional and only option you can buy online. Once at the counter he was forcing me to buy THEIR insurance for some bogus reason about not being covered for third party which was untrue. The whole wait time and trying to scam me into purchase additional coverage for no reason I decided to go with a different company that gave me a better price while I was waiting for his pickup. Horrible experience, tons of wasted time and not transparent with prices.

Never showed upPros: When we booked our car with economy, there was no mention of the fact that the office was outside of the airport. We went up to the 12 desks of rental cars and asked where the Economy desk was located and one of the reps explained that a rep will meet you outside. We went outside and no one was there, so we went back k. After a couple of calls and another unsuccessful attempt to link up with Economy outside the airport, we decided to go back in and book with another car rental company (as thankfully cars were available). We had to pay over double the price of what we reserved on Economy. Terrible experience!

Pickup in SantiagoPros: It was easy to get to and it was fast to pick up the car. They also offer a wifi hotspot instead of GPS which we loved. The whole two days we had the rental we had access to wifi to use google maps and to be connected to our family abroad.Cons: There was an airport tax applied to our reservation that was not part of our original booking. It was about an extra $10 so it wasn't a big deal, but I would have preferred to know all associated fees upfront.

Not happy with the Avis people in SantiagoPros: Nothing. Didn't end up renting from them. It felt like they were crooked and trying to rip me off.Cons: They didn't honor the reservation. Didn't except the Discover insurance or Visa insurance. Were going to charge me more than the reservation. Ended up renting a vehicle for a 3rd of the cost elsewhere.
Pros: Some of the staff were helpful and apologetic about all the issues we encounter.Cons: The vehicle was not available at the time we landed. Had to get a cab to my hotel and come back the next day, we were a large family therefore very difficult to get to the hotel and back, especially as our plane arrived at midnight. The vehicle they gave us didn't have the proper license plate and the staff called me through my whole trip trying to have me come back for them to make do the paperwork. Also, they charge me bogus charges that were not included on my original reservation, on their words, those are country charges.
