This hotel seems to be the victim of some questionable decisions decades ago. The mansion itself is a beautiful and well-maintained 1910 Gregorian home, carefully renovated for reuse as an events facility. The mansion itself has kept much of its old-world charm, and the local Gatsby-like flavor despite the inclusion of modern amenities. However, the Mansion itself is not where you'll be sleeping. The hotel rooms are in an adjoining set of buildings built in the 1980s and built in the then-modern architectural style. The result is a building that on the outside is brown and boxy, and that carries a rather institutional feel. The contrast between the exteriors of the Mansion and the hotel buildings could not be more stark. The inside of the hotel building is better than the outside. The hallways are elegantly appointed and clean (though, there's a conspicuous lack of artwork on the walls and some of the carpet is visibly due for replacement). The rooms are tired (visible wear on some of the upholstery), but very clean. Also, the water pressure in the shower was wonderfully strong and merits a star all on its own. We woke up to discover our snacks had become swarmed with ants, but reception handled the situation very well--providing a discount, calling an exterminator, and offering another room without any specific prompting. We did not experience the spa, food services, or event spaces other than wandering around the property. I don't expect to return, but also would not object if the opportunity arose.

Cons:Pool was closed; room had worn furniture. Upon arrival, my guaranteed reservation had to be retrieved by reception from an off-duty manager. The hotel is overrated and inefficient.

Pros:The Mansion itself is beautiful. Very stately and makes for a nice first impression. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Cons:A day before I arrived I asked for a refrigerator to be delivered in my room and they said it would be waiting for me when I arrive. When I was checking in I again asked if they had seen the request for a fridge. The lady told me yes and it should be in the room. When I got to the room it wasn’t. So I tried to call the front desk, and the phone didn’t work. So I tried another phone in the room which finally after messing with it for a few times caleldnthe front desk. I got a fridge within the next 20mins. The room itself was not at all reflecting of the ambiance of the hotel when you first check in. I realize the guest rooms aren’t actually in the mansion itself. This didn’t really bother me. But what did bother me is the fact that the hotel is advertised at 4 stars. This was 2.5 at best. Felt more like an aged holiday inn. The room appeared to be clean but the head board had gashes in it. The doors had chipped paint. The shower had an overhead dome light that was full of dead bugs. It was absolutely not 4 star room. I wouldn’t recommend staying here for the price. Stay at a newer holiday inn or Hyatt for the same price. They’ll be cleaner and more modern.

Pros:Breakfast buffet is good. Hotel is in process of refurbishing rooms and hallways as part of its rebranding as The Mansion.
Cons:The distances between the rooms and the parking lots is very long, especially in bad weather. No covered or valet parking. Room doors slam when not closed carefully. No frequent guest or airline rewards benefits.

Cons:Very long walk to room, with 2 short staircases; a real pain when carrying suitcases. Hallways a bit shabby, although repainting in process.

Pros:Not much the location and how the building looked from the outside as well as the fake pictures of the inside lured me in.
Cons:The building was old and jaded the staff were nice but not that professional as one might expect at a hotel. The night staffs were especially rude. The bar was filthy upstairs I got sick twice after drinking there. The bar tender didn't even have a top on the martini shaker he was using a napkin on top of the shaker so unhygienic. The carpets were dirty in the bedroom, my chair was dirty. All the rooms need to be gutted and start over. I had a friend come to visit me during my stay she couldn't believe what dump the place was compared how it's portrayed online. I was miserable during my stay and so happy to leave that Hotel. I would never stay there again ever.

Pros:Location is the only thing which I liked. In future I will NOT stay in this hotel.
Cons:Poor customer service. No room service after 10:30PM. Checking with one of the hotel manager about food availability, she gave me a wrong number and I woke up some poor guy asking for Pizza at 11 PM. Rooms are not luxury rooms but mediocre room with bathrooms that need renovation. Toilet flush was not working properly and you need to flush three times. Don't be fooled by thinking this is a luxury hotel.

Pros:Loved the history, the full range of facilities (in door and outdoor pool, racquetball court, pool table - just to name a few), the friendly and helpful staff, and most especially the exquisite and quiet setting. It was a lovely, memorable Gold Coast experience.
