Hertz rental car from Akron Canton airport

Pros: Absolutely no complaints. The staff was super friendly and helpful, car was great with no issues, pick up and return was easy. I'll definitely use Hertz again when I'm in town!

Drop off needs improved
Cons: Why should we have to go back inside to the rental desk when returning the car. Technology exists at most airports. Invest in it.

Original Car was in terrible shape
Pros: The car that they had for us in the Akron branch was in terrible shape. It had dents and scratches all over it. It wasn't washed. The front rims were very dirty...probably from brake dust. The tires didn't look in great shape, especially for a 1100 mile trip to Florida. I don't understand why this car was still in the fleet of rentals. It was driven hard and abused. So to actually know how it was mechanically for a long trip is unknown. Because we switched it out at the Akron airport. Now that care was in great shape. Very satisfied with that car. Clean inside and out. Car was in great shape. We putt over 2500 miles on it and had no problems.

Pros: The car was spacious and great on gas. It was clean and comfortable. No complaints overall.

Pros: Car was clean with no smoking odors. Good gas mileage, roomy, easy check-in and return Rented alone and felt safe. Good pickup on freeways

Pros: Quick process at the check out desk. $200 hold on my debit card, but that was released when I returned the car. I used Kayak's protection plan, so there were no increases and no surprise charges. They accept debit cards if your rental time coincides with your flight itinerary. They do ask for two forms of ID and say they run a soft credit check if you are using debit. The whole process took less than 5 minutes and was super easy.

Mystery in the rental details
Pros: On site pickup
Cons: I have never experienced a rental where the charges were most freely applied and most loosely explained. I kept having receipts shoved in front of me with partial charges (I'd already paid online through third party) making me feel like I was being hussled.

Great car but unexpected charges
Pros: I was given the option to pick between 3 cars. I picked the one I was most familiar with. It was clean, newer, ran well with basic options. I put a lot of miles on this car in 5 day's time.
Cons: I pre-paid for 70% of the rental through the initial Kayak transaction. At the time of pickup the remaining 30% was dues, which I paid at that time. I arrived to drop off the car and it was a day early. For some reason they hit me with a 3rd nominal charge. If something is prepaid, the gas tank was full, there is no damage and it was returned early, how can there be another charge??? Not real happy with Hertz right now.

Pros: Good size car. Good gas mileage.
Cons: No one came outbto the car or gave any orientation. Took a long time to figure out how to get the gas cap door open.

Good service for car pickup and drop-off. Terrible
Pros: Pick up and drop off was easy.
Cons: The customer service rep I reached when I called directly was absolutely terrible. I originally called to try to use points. The amount of points she quoted was above my expectations. When I said that and was attempting to ask why or whether there were changes I could make to reduce the costs, she hung up without saying anything. No im sorry. No good bye. This has become pretty typical for Hertz but is now to the point worth stating in a review. I ended up buying through Kayak. I'm seriously considering changing preferred rental car companies as this has become a theme with Hertz.

Over road trip
Pros: Close to home pickup. Tank was full. No dents pn car. Was to b awd. Wipers were ok. Awd didmt work. Hydroplaned easily. Noisy. Hood latch released on interstate. Mileage was poor. Onlly 350 range on tank

Cons: -car wasn't ready until 1.5hr after scheduled pick up time -car filthy inside and out, was told to wash it myself -car smelled horribly of cigarette smoke

Easy with Technology
Pros: I used the online reservation and quickly and easy picked up the car at CAK with the assistance of a friendly and helpful associate.
Cons: There was condensation on the windows one morning and rolling the windows down and up did little to clean them so I had to stop and wipe them dry.

Cons: I didn't like that I came to kayak to rent the car, then was redirected to another site which changed the dates that I was looking to rent a car. It's amazing when you show up to pick up a car and they don't have a reservation for you for a month. hertz would not change the reservation, told me I had to contact kayak. No one was at kayak or the other site I was redirected to at 8pm at night. I ended up having to rent a car at the airport on the spot, and never got reimbursed for my other rental. Highly dissatisfied. Will never use this site or hertz for any of my future needs.

Pros: The process was easy. The rental office was easy to find, and once I got there the whole process went fairly fast. The person was professional, very pleasant, and easy to understand.
Cons: The price was higher than expected. Insurance was a big expense.

Customer Service needs improvement
Pros: Drop off in Richmond was by far the best part. Lady was very nice and apologetic for the inconvenience at pick up.
Cons: Pick up in Akron Ohio: They didn't have the car I had reserved. The manager didn't care at all that I was unhappy about that. Then they told me that it was only $4 cheaper for the step down car even though online the difference was $20.

Pros: I was the lowest cost vehicle of its class and we found out why.
Cons: We lost a complete day because it was not available. We traveled with our dog and when we returned the car the company charged us $100 because they had to vacuum some hair. They said it was a company standard but they did not say that when we rented. They were nasty and told us we should have read the entire contract before we signed. Who does that when there is a line of people waiting behind you? Bad service, poor company!
