I made reservations 4 months in advance for my rental car when I got off the plane and arrived at the Hertz counter I was told ..it wS credit card only...I did not have my credit card with me...they informed me they didn't take visa debt bank card in a panic I went to enterprise and they were happy to take my 1,900.00 from my debt card I would never recommend HertzReviewed Jan 8 2023

Went to pick up and they said they couldn’t accept my CapitalOne MasterCard because it wasn’t the right type of credit card and they also couldn’t accept a different credit card because it had the word “debit” somewhere on it. Had to completely give up on my rental despite making it a month in advance and pay way more for a last minute rental at a different car rental agency at the airport (that weirdly had no problem with my credit card!). Also completely useless at helping me get a refund, still working on that! Will likely never rent from Hertz again.Reviewed Dec 18 2022

Both pick up and drop off times were when the offices were technically closed! We barely got the car picked up before the employee left for the day. When we dropped it off, the office was closed for the whole weekend. Luckily, an employee turned up just as we were starting to panic.Reviewed Aug 21 2022

The car was clean and nice. When I arrived at the pick-up time, I was informed the car was not yet ready due to lack of staff preparing cars for pick-up. I had to wait an hour and was not offered a discount and barely an apology. I then asked if I could have the car for longer instead, and that was not an option, in fact they told me that if I didn't deliver the car at the time of return, they would charge me for the night.Reviewed Jul 25 2022

I tried to rent a mini van for my family at the Hertz at the Dane County airport in Madison Wisconsin. The first van I got had a heater that did not work (in Wisconsin, during winter) the windshield washer fluid was frozen and the outside windows were dirty, making it hard to see. I took the Dodge Caravan back and was given a Pacifica. I got my kids car seats anchored and went to get myself buckled in and the drivers seatbelt did not work. There was a panel near it that had been taken off and never fixed. I had to take the car seats out of that van, back into the airport to talk with the agent. He told me that they pay a company to maintain their cars and check them for safety. I question if the company is doing their job. I could hear the agent talk to his manager about what was going on, and while the agent wanted to help get me an upgrade the manager wanted to send me away in the car with the malfunctioning seatbelt. I did talk to the manager, he was short, and did not apologize for any of it. They never offered to check the next car to see if it worked properly, or drive it to me so I would not have to carry two car seats. Overall it took me 2 hours to get a working car, and I hauled 2 large car seats multiple blocks. I have rented with other car rental companies at the airport and they normally go out of their way to make things right, and apologize when it’s not. It was a huge waste of time and effort. The personnel working the front desk during pickup and drop off were very friendly and helpful. However, the Yukon I rented was not as clean inside as I had expected. The passenger side mirror was not functioning and when I informed the receptionist at drop off it didn't seem to concern him. The remote auto start also did not work resulting in my going outside in below zero temperatures to start the vehicle. I also would have expected a walk around of the vehicle before and after with a brief on the operating functions of the vehicle, but neither occurred. This did make me nervous on drop off and potentially accruing charges for any damage that was already there but not documented. I did receive my receipt and this did not happen, but it was a nervous period. Overall, I would use Hertz again, but there are improvements that could make things better.Reviewed Feb 7 2022
