Excellent facilities. I stayed for eight nights over the Chinese New Year. The club lounge was nice and quiet, but the food variety stayed the same for all those days. The downstair restaurant was a bit noise with kids and families. Some of the doormen lacked enthusiasm for service. No one greeted me or helped with luggage, my brother did all of the loading unloading, which was a pity for a five star hotel.
They had an awesome rooftop bar.. With live guitar, fireplace outdoor deck with heaters.. Trendy but not annoyingly loud. Comfy intimate places to sit.. Can't say enough.. The room was clean, updated and comfortable. Free WiFi in the room. Was a short walk to forbidden city and T. Sq.. A couple malls nearby, McDonald's next door.. 7 11 a couple blocks away.. Get your western stuff including vodka, wine, snacks. Concierge was helpful, Front desk accomodating considering the only shocker that happened to us.. Got a confirmation number and payment withdrawal from my account. For our reservation only to arrive and was told that kayak cancelled my reservation.. Strange since they took the money. The hotel gave us last room, and settled with us after kayak returned the payment at the end of our 4 day stay. Could have been worse.. Kayak? No explaination.. No apology.. Go figure. And... Kayak got no commission.. Booked through hotel at same rate. Kayak reservation system.. Explained above Taxi in Beijing as westerner, impossible.. They want more than the meter.. If you can find one.. Hotel will get one.. Comming back.. Goodluck.. Plan to walk.
This hotel was fantastic. Rooms large, clean, comfortable and quiet. Services and facilities were all to an extremely high standard, from the room to the restaurants, bars and public areas. Location is good, central to most of Beijing attractions, and only 5 minutes walk to the subway station. The hotel even placed a complimentary birthday cake for my wife in the room which was a very pleasant suprise. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommed to others.
the lovely staff. the toilet. it was a bit run down.
Good Location, very comfort and plenty of restaurants in the hotel along with other things to keep you interested. The daily room make up got worse during our stay.
intreetinut personnel of the hotel room and excellence and diverse conditions, complete only regret that I had more time to settle, is still on the run and trying to do my work for which we came, but also to see some of the city
Parts of the hotel were not open to the public which should have been shared at the time of booking not two days before. The floors were never vacuumed during a one week stay. Other than that, the hotel was clean. However, since it is a 4 or 5 star hotel, it was a little surprising that the hotel staff's English wasn't a little better.
To be honest, it is a clean hotel. Definitely, not a 5 star hotel (3.5?). Hard to understand the accent of the staff while speaking in english. 2 yuan per minute for the internet connection is extremely expensive. None of the services are free, for example you have to pay for the swimming pool. Tours organized by the hotel to the Great Wall are not worth it. Staff is not honest: they promised and repromised me that the weather forecast was going to be sunny (for the tour to the Great Wall), and it finally was extremely foggy and rainy, they simply wanted to sell another ticket and promised me everything I needed to hear.
Hotel permitted bandit (unlicensed) cars posing as taxis to transport people. Very bad practice!!!!
the Services an awful smell was coming out from drains.
Great hotel to stay at. Everyone speaks good English and is willing to help
The Capital, although nice, does not cater to the clientel as other hotels I have experieiced in China.
Professional staff, facilities I was OVER-charged by the hotel, compared to my booking.com reservation. I was quoted $350 for my 5 night stay, where 15% service charge was "not included"; this should come out to ~ $402 total. However, when I checked out, my credit card was charged $434. Though this is not a big difference, I feel as if my booking.com reservation quote meant nothing.
The hotel rooms were quite comfortable, clean and had a nice window view. The bathroom was also spacious and well designed. The front desk staff spoke relatively good English although there were times we could not really understand some of them. But overall, quite good. Just because the hotel was located near the Palace Museum, we thought we got a real good location. However, it was quite far from the subway. Although there were bus stops nearby, we didnt really know what routes they used. Overall, this is the biggest disadvantage of the Shatan.
Staff are very helpfull and the hotel is next door to the Forbidden City The room is less than fair size and what bother me the most is the persistence of the musty smell
It is an interesting hotel close to the Beihai Park. The street however is difficult to be found by taxi drivers and the close environment is not very clean with to many low quality boutiques. The fact that the current and the warm water were cut for 10 hours in day time though I paid fully comfort.
Location Noisy street, workers start at 5 A.M. even on Sundays.
Lacation.. Far from train station and shopping areas
I was delighted to stay at this hotel. The location is excellent, in the Beijing downtown, close to the Forbidden City and Jigshan Park. The staff is very friendly, they also speak an acceptable english. Breakfast was also excellent at low price (compared to european hotels), I missed only some diary products. I recommend this hotel to everyone who want to visit Beijing at a budget price.
very able & helpful staff
Perfect location, right in local neighbourhood but also very close to the Forbidden City (Palace Museum). The receptionist was not helpful.
Staff was very healpful, and the location was great.
big room and very comfortable bed. staff members are friendly and helpful. good breakfast and nice spa.
Excellent location, next to subway station (chongwenmen), in the city center, number of restaurents inside and around. Good shopping in the vicinity. For better exchange rates, can use next door Bank of China. Tour desk 8am-8pm so can book Beijing tours or shows easily. It's somewhat old (60 years in 2014) but maintained well.
Close to substation None
Close access to public transportation and places of interest. Excellent location Lack of pool
good hotel, near city centre... perfect
Breakfast and the beds. The smog in the lobby. High price of drinks in the hotel restaurants.
This hotel is in a central location to see the sights of Beijing. Staying at this hotel made our stay very enjoyable.
clean and big
Hotel is within walking distance of Forbidden City Staff cannot speak/understand english, we booked a superior room which ended up being a lot smaller than expected
happy hours no
Good location and the subway station is just in front of the hotel the breakfast needs to be improved and the breads are hard to eat.
location Not anough TV-channels ( no russian , german language )
All staff were personable and very helpful to non-chinese speakers. Breakfast was delicious, especially the bircher muesli. Room was quiet and comfortable. Hotel was central and convenient for our visit. An extremely enjoyable experience.
The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was rather clean.
The swimming pool, the location, the garden
good design, good atmosphere a little bit not comfortable with the wood bathtub!
I liked everything. The Opposite House has met and exceeded all my expectations. From the hall/lobby, bar, restaurants and spa design, to one of the best rooms I have ever had (I stayed in a 70m studio). The photos on the internet are true to the actual hotel. Facilities superb, attention to detail is everywhere, and customer service is of top level, with an incredibly attentive and kind staff. It feels like every possible need has already been thought through on your behalf and you get even before you ask. I had drinks at the bar and food at the mediterranean restaurant, which was excellent. The surrounding area is very interesting and pleasant as well. I will reccommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Beijing. As much as I think about it... there is not a single thing I did not like about this hotel.
all the staff are friendly and speak good English and the check-in is informal and novel. The restaurant Sureno has good food and an extensive wine list
Very nice and original hotel. Sculptures in lobby give it character Lobby and bar too dark at night : don't go overboard with the design look & feel...
In one word: Everything! This was the best experience I have ever had staying at a hotel anywhere in the world. The accommodations were exquisite and the staff was the friendliest and most helpful group of employees that I have ever encountered. Many thanks to them for making my vacation to Beijing one that I will remember for a long time. Note: The Opposite House is also a wonder of modern architecture.
The room amazingly large. Probably the best Boutique Hotel we've stayed in. Excellent resto too
Design, location, service attitude. Service level not up to price/other quality.
a lot of in-house restaurant to choose ; western or chinese or japanese.and is connecting to mall.
Clean, modern Services over priced. Room - was allocated a twin, must be the only luxury hotel in the world where twin means twin singles not twin queen size. Furthermore, was told no non-smoking room available at 15:00 hrs check-in yet colleague arrived 1 hrs later and was allocated.
Very comfortable and extremely reliable.
Can't beat this location in traffic-plagued Beijing. Convenient for most business destinations -- with the exception of Haidian. Decor is tired and worn and needs a serious refit. Bedside "control panel" was no doubt cool in 1998, but in 2016 the keypad is greasy and glitchy ------ and I'd kill for a 2 amp USB outlet in the same location...
