How much is a BMW car rental in Monterey?

I made the reservation through Kayak, they called me 1 hour before the pick up time and told me they don’t have the car. The person I talked to was very rude, refused to let me talk to his manager, refused to tell me his full name, and at the end told me his is not going to do anything for me.

Pros:

Able to reserve the all-wheel drive, large-size SUV the day before I needed it and at a very good rate on kayak.com, far less than I expect to pay (40% less than several direct car rental websites). Vehicle was in excellent condition with only 8,000 miles on it. Ran beautifully from Monterey to Tahoe and back through some pretty rough storm conditions. Easy pick-up and return at the Monterey Regional Airport.

Cons:

There was nothing I didn't like about the rental car or the company, or the process of getting it online through kayak.com.

Pros:

No, I tried to call their office various times the day before, and they put me on hold for a long time twice, then just hung up the 3rd try. After that it just went to corporate.

Cons:

The young man I encountered upon arrival was very brusque. Whipped thru the paperwork, and when I asked to confirm the quoted price, he said a price of $40 more. I asked why and he said it was because I was picking it up early (less than an hour difference, the flight was a bit early). He re-did it all to reflect the price I was quoted. Never had anything like that happen before.

Pros:

Nothing! Didn’t even rent the vehicle!

Cons:

No where in the rental agreement did it say there would be a rental car deposit?!! Therefore I was not prepared with a credit card that could hold that amount of money!! Very disappointed!!

Cons:

Rental was for 08:00 am, but the car was not ready until 09:00. Was told they do not have the staff and he could not tell me when the car would be ready. Once the car was delivered, still had trash in the back from prior rental.

Pros:

The staff was great, the service was excellent - easy pick up and drop-off (and the woman staffing the desk remembered me three days later!). I found the entire experience to be easy and understandable (where to go, what to do, etc.) from beginning to end.

Cons:

The car wasn't all that great. It was safe, it was functional, and it was most definitely clean. However, I would have preferred something a little more comfortable and modern, even at my small-car/low-level need.

Pros:

Learning the art of advanced booking helps. Even with the pressure of the holidays, the staff maintained professionalism and tried to help others when their cars ran out. Glad I reserved earlier. Awesome ride, they suggested an upgrade which really helped because what I initially reserved, would've been a miserable fit for my size. Good team work! BUT it's a small lot and I don't think there are any other rental places nearby other than the airport, so last minute renters might continue to face off with staff there unfortunately.

Cons:

Not sure when this started but have rental car places stopped caring about the outside of their cars? The inside was ok but the outside seemed it was wiped with a muddy rag. Other than that, nothing bad about this experience for me.

No exorbitant airport fees and surcharges. This rental agency is about 3 miles from the Monterey Airport. Take a cab to the office and pick-up there.

I was able to choose the exact car I wanted and was even able to reserve a cooler and boogie board to use for the week. The car was in like-new condition. The free shuttle was convenient, fast and the drivers were nice. The location was a little bit further from the airport, but it wasn't a problem.

It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). In general it was okay -- we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. It's doable. However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "-- Keys are under front door's floormat. -- Nope, they're not there. -- Then try mailbox? -- Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. The rest was okay. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems.
