What are the pros of staying at Jazz On The Park Hostel?
The staff really friendly and location amazing! The location was perfect. Nice price and good place! Employees were very nice. Location is OK. Bed was comfy and clean. The people that work there are really nice! The staff was super friendly. The hostel is located close to Central Park, a few blocks away from the next Subway Station, and it's only a short ride to the main attractions of New York. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There were bagels for breakfast. The floor I stayed on was very quiet, and you could get a good rest at night. The bathrooms were spacious with several showers. Close to Central Park and metro station, member of staff were really helpful. The staff and atmosphere were great. Great place for a short stay while traveling. I've stayed here a few times and it's always been so fun. People in the room are also travelers so it's easy to make new friends too. Good location near the central park and the subway. Great place for solo travelers :) The location is near subway 103th and the rooms are decent with blackout curtains and they provide towels. I mean Tasha was great. She made my trip really, because she Really like had a beautifull touch to understand New York in her. The staff in this hostel is awesome and professional. It has a nice feeling and everything way good. The rooms are a little bit cold, but if you ask one more blanket they will gladly provide it. The rooms and bathroom were cleaned properly. Very friendly staff. Nice location directly next to the Central Park (tho quite far away from the main sights). They also served bagels and jam as well as coffee and tea in the morning - which was nice. Amazing location and okay bed for the price. Position. The staff was nice. It accommodated me. Close to the metro and few groceries shops.
What are the cons of staying at Jazz On The Park Hostel?
It looked like a jail cell. Worst hostel ever stayed. ROom was dirty, no towels, no soap. It was a construction site. Construction dust. Construction noise. Construction workers even inside the room. Almost no common areas available. Kitchen is a dungeon. 5th floor with bags and no elevator. For almost 100 dollars a night I would have expected a more habitable place. Even in NY. The girls bathroom is just in 2 floors and I had to go downstairs 2 floors down every time I needed a shower os brush my teeth, very inconvenient and also the bathroom doesn't really cover your body you feel really embarrassed. The construction. The room was clean but had drywall dust on the beds. No AC in the room. Which gets hot due to body heat. The bed seemed old and squeaky. The mattress was saggy and not very comfortable. The bathrooms seemed to be dirty. I felt like they didn't clean them very often. The sink had the same toothpaste stains for days, and there were a lot of hair in the showers. In addition, the toilet had a leak from which water was coming out. Under renovation so some areas were not accessible. Only one mixed toilet on the 5th floor with mixed dorms, while men had bathroom and showers on the 5th, 4th and 3rd floor. With people staying for a long time in the toilet it was impossible to get a ready for a woman unless going to the ground floor or lower floors and having to carry all the toiletry items around. Some electric sockets not working. No trash can in the bedroom or place to hang coats. Dirty and dusty everywhere. Heating switched off or not working. Place under construction so there's noise and mess everywhere. No lockers available. Completely unhelpful and impolite staff. Bathroom and showers need some heavy maintenance. It was quite bad even with my low expectations. First of all, the hotel has not been called Jazz on the Park Youth Hostel for many years. The listing on Booking.com is wrong and does not reflect the name or how the hostel looks like in real life. It is run by a company named KAMA and will probably be rebranded at some point on websites. The hostel is under re-construction. Basically all the services you would expect from a traditional hostel was to some extent there, but everywhere you looked there was construction work going on. The floors, bed-frames, toilets, showers, reception area ...everywhere ... was covered in dirt. Complaining about rooms or even hallways not being clean did not help. We stayed for two nights, not having other places to go, and got more and more surpised by the unwillingness to admit shortcomings in service. Simple things like lockers were not available. They were practically leaned up against the walls in the hallway being shifted around as they were doing construction work elsewhere. Noise to say the least. The breakfast was a big joke. Contained in a workers kitchen in the basement, all covered in filth as people were working there. Breakfast consisted of a bagel, nothing more! Drinks were self-serviced from containers. The sink and general kitchen area was stacked with dirty dishes and filth all over the place. Again, because it was used by workers re-constructing the place. According to law, see signs from the bedroom, the room is noted as approved for 5 adults and 1 child. We experienced 6 adults in the same room. Practically as they are building a showerroom inside it, the room should not be allowed to house more than 4 (at most). The space was very cramped and you actually did not have much room to leave luggage out of way for others not to jump over it. Again, no lockers! Everything. They are renovating the building, and everything was dusty and dirty. The staff was incompetent and not helpful at all. They incorrectly encoded my check-in in their system, and at 1am, they were calling my door because they wanted to give it to someone else. They never apologised. Instead, they tried to force me to check out earlier. Everything. No facilities or available but working well, one of the receptionist was not helpful at all (the others were good specially new one was fantastic yet she is still new), small and few toilets, no elevator. The room and facilities were horrendous. In various states of construction and disrepair. Do not stay here until it’s fixed. All restrooms are in bad shape. The staff was nice. The facility and room was a disaster. The room was in repair and not finished. The bed was not made and missing a blanket and sheet. I had to go to the third floor to find a clean working restroom and shower. The room was dirty and unfinished. The bathrooms were a disaster and in repairs. The hall door was kept open by a fire extinguisher because it was broken. The place is a nightmare and should be repaired before it’s rented out. My room 1 of 3 power outlet doesn't work. I had to stay for another night in NYC (stayed at the Hi Hostel before) and this was the only hostel available for the next night. So despite the many bad reviews, I stayed at a female two bed dorm room. It was about 100$ so really not worth the money - but again the only available option when I looked the day before Compared to my other hostel experiences, this was a bad hostel. Here are my cons: - the bathrooms only did the job, I couldn’t properly lock the bathroom door - it rained a lot at night and the water actually came through the walls and fell on the bunk bed :( - the beds had no shelves to put your phone, wallet or other items and there were no nightlights for each bed so I wasn't able to read - it got very cold at night and the blankets were too thin - you had to pay another 5$ if you wanted to store your baggage in the storage room after checking out. The place should shut down the door. Only convenience was the location. they offer a coffee with bagels. The worst was the bathroom: Dirty and neglect to a lot of maintenance. They don't offer towel and any key to use in the lockers. The main area was completely down and unfisnished from a small changes there. Even they apologise of it was inform in the site during the processing of reservation. They didn't turn on the heating even though it was autumn and very cold. I asked the reception for an additional blanket. They told me they didn't have them. They were very rude and inattentive. Not much of a breakfast. Downside is that there is no elevator, if you have a big luggage, be prepared to go highest up to 3rd floor and the female toilets tap is not running water, you have to keep pressing which makes toothbrushing and face washing a little harder. It was dirty, i found bugs in the room. The kitchen was full of dust and they didn’t provide plates or anything to cook. The wifi wasn’t reaching till the fifth floor (where my room was). The room os not properly isolated so it was pretty cold at night. The sheets were dirty. The bedding was not changed. In fact a dirty sheet was folded and thrown on top of bed spread. Coffee. The bed firmness. No bedding in my room when I turned up at 2am. 1 toilet on floor. 3 out of the 6 showers didn’t work and the tap in the main Bathroom didn’t word. Very dirty, some sinks didn’t work. Bed was uncomfortable and room smelled bad. Only one single stall bathroom for an entire floor.
