Good enjoyable stay
Clean bedsheets and towels Very small rooms for the price; You can't reach the reception directly; you basically have to go through hoops and being on hold before someone picks up; the staff are not quick in responding to issues or concerns. Wifi was really quite poor--it bounced off every five minutes.
The location of the Hotel in the centre of Oxford We stayed in the Hotel before and liked it very much. On this occasion we found it somewhat disappointing. Many small things caused us some frustration.
Friendliness. Convenience to City Centre. Quiet. Long circuit up hill and down dale to executive room on first floor - miles from lift and still requiring negotiating stairs. Brilliant black-out curtains spoiled by light streaming under the door from the corridor.
Convenience, quality of service Smoking in main bar area.
Lovely hotel and rooms. Particularly impressed by the turn down service. No
room was clean and bathroom large. there was a cost of 4pounds per 20 minutes for the internet. should be complimentary. as well, they charged me for newspaper - 1pound, to use my visa to pay bill 2.50pounds and a "carer distribution fee of 1pound. this was unacceptable!
excellent location in central Oxford, minutes away from historic colleges, the central market, and the bus station. Rooms were small, extremely overheated and poorly ventilated. Old carpeting triggered allergies. Breakfast not included in the room price and very expensive ($30 for a continental buffet).
It is in an excellent location for visiting my daughter who is studying at Worcestor college. We were in a room with heavy scaffolding blocking the entire two windows. Men were talking, yelling & working/pounding in front of the two windows every morning. They totally ignored us who needed sleeping in the room. There were no privacy nor courtesy. We were not informed or asked if it's Ok for the reception to assign such a downgraded room (the windows were blocked by scaffolding entirely)to us at check in either. The service and facilities were at most a one star hotel this time. I stayed in this hotel for about 5 times in the last two years because we were visiting our daughter who was studying at Worcestor college(one block away). They've been always about a three stars hotel standard. But this time was the worst. We will not use this hotel any more. It's totally not worth the price & the poor facility.
Excellent central location.Spacious and well furnished room. Unable to sleep due to traffic noise.
Location, 'character', most staff (but not all) Very high parking fee, long walk to room, noise of large fan/generator, modest bedroom and facilities, unpleasant view, bizarre naked footprints on flat roof outside window, smell of sewage ('exceptional' problem), credit card surcharge (incredible!). Very poor value. Also adding 'MacDonald' to the name rather detracts from the image, I'm afraid. Next time: The Old Bank
The friendliness & helpfulness of the staff. The excellent breakfast. The well-equipped bathroom. The proximity to the Ashmolean I should have preferred a duvet rather than blankets on my bed. I found the blankets too hot and constricting
The quirky nature of the former prison - cleverly converted The lighting in the rooms was too dim to read
Althiugh it was a busy weekend, the staff, were pateient courteoud and helpful.
Well situated.Intriguing building with a good ambiance.Has the potential to be excellent. Seemed under staffed at reception and so no warm feeling of care ,especially noticeable as this was the only customer engagement point.
Nice hotel, interesting features and full of character. Unfriendly staff. Shower broken, both of us had to have cold shower in the morning, not so nice! Duvet cover ripped all across. When this was pointed out to the male receptionist on check out we were told that this is not generally the case in the c block!! No mention of sorry!! Made to feel like a liar!
Excellent location, great design hotel There was an issue with my bill at checkout. Reception quite rude
Very comfortable and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.
Location Uncomfortable beds, hairdryers not working and extremely limited sundry items, tea bags etc..
Responsive staff- about the best I have encountered. Taxi booked by hotel was 25 minutes late despite several calls by staff to chase
the hotel building is beautifully restored and kept, the room and service were of high standard the hotel is dark everything is painted black there are very few lights and most places such as the brasserie and the main lobby are dim , everybody dresses in black at the reception desk and at the restaurant, black bed cover and black bed cushions black desk closet night tables, grey bathroom, black wall to wall carpet with tiny strips of red that reminded me of blood
Central location, unique design, extremely handy for the Oxford Colleges which was why we booked it. Particularly liked the fact that you are immediately into the centre of the city as you leave the hotel Finding the hotel is difficult - the SatNav takes you to the back of the hotel( which is hopeless) and Oxford is very difficult for car drivers. Either do park and ride or leave yourself plenty of time and print a map.
The hotel is very stylish and has a unique atmosphere. It's very close to the city center and the train station which is very convenient. The restaurant has superb food and is reasonably priced. The shower was quite challenging. No matter how hard I tried, the water I got was lukewarm at best.
convenient location the bed was too soft
central location and car park facility
Central location Heating in room 201 was poor we did not have any on the Sunday morning and no hot water. This was the coldest night of the year so far 27/28th November 2010. I did mention. Rather off putting!
The breakfast and service.
Excellent kitchen for all meals. Wonderful included breakfast Room quite cozy. Lighting very poor for reading. No wash cloths, few towels. Hair blower attached behind desk. Temperature very difficult to adjust.
Room was very nice
We particularly liked the room (105) - spacious and comfortable. The view is wonderful and the location very convenient.
The reception staff were excellent-very friendly and helpful-and it was good to have parking in the City. There was quite a lot of noise at night-from disco music + ?generator or other appliance.
The location was great, the staff were excellent, and the hotel itself: clean, stylish and cosy Navigating the High Street was a little complicated by car due to complex one way system
The location of the hotel was ideal for getting to the office and shopping. Which was the purpose of the trip/stay No hairdryers in the room
Seems a bit sad,but we really liked the bathroom! It was a proper room, not just a partitioned off corner of the bedroom.Nice floor as well! Breakfast was rather chaotic.
An excellent welcome and staff could not do enough for us. Room was comfortable and beds lovely
The service was outstanding. Staff were really helpful, friendly and eager to make our stay great. The hotel has a fantastic location, right in the centre of Oxford, and it's clean, stylish and very comfortable. The bar and brasserie downstairs is great. I would definitely stay there on every visit to Oxford! There was nothing at all I didn't like during our stay.
Very central location Hotel is a triumph of style over substance
Very comfortable, centrally located, walking distance to most of what you want to see. Very friendly staff. Attached to a very nice restaurant. Could use a set up for tea or coffee in the room.
Espesialy Yiannis perikleous was very helpfull because he specking Greek that is my language expensive
Comfortable, clean, uniquely beautiful property! I have none.
Location rooms are very noisy. Seems to be little insulation between rooms.
Very handy for train station arrival and only a short stroll into town centre. All reception and breakfast waitress staff friendly and polite. Twin room, en-suite, was a good size, clean, tidy and comfortable. Used hotel for visit with son to attend university open day
Although the hotel's excellent location was the main reason for choosing it I was very impressed by the overall standards of comfort, such as good quality beds and by the very helpful and friendly staff.
The location is excellent for the station and for central Oxford. The room was quiet and comfortable. Breakfast in the adjoining restaurant, though very tasty, was a long time being served.
Close to where I needed to be Overpriced
It was adjacent to the Said Business School, where I was doing some work. Its infrastructure was incredibly poor. It was noisy, there were no lifts, you could not retain your own key, the rooms were small and not particularly pleasant and the bathrooms were not nice. It was extremely poor value.
The location is great - particularly for train travellers. The bar and restaurant were excellent and the rooms extremely comfortable and very clean - lovely fluffy towels too!
Relatively late check out was good. No. All features and services of the hotle were as advertised.
The modern design in an attractive old building; the fact that it is central and easy to find. I thought the price of 100 for a single room was a bit much, but I note that Oxford hotels are expensive, so it did not stand out compared with the competition.
Location great. Staff friendly and efficient. Room good, beds comfy, everything clean. Nice biscuits. Would stay again. Had trouble operating the show. I'm sure staff would have helped but didn't complain.
Bedding is fine. Room wasn't available On time. Female receptionist was completely impolite.
Location and the ammenities Dirty windowsDid not like the contract conditions - which were not stated at booking. If you dont report something you damages, you might get charged £50 pounds. Seems arbitrary to their favour.
Convenient location for walking to most of downtown Oxford. Bus and train station nearby for easy access from London and airports. Room was nicely furnished. Water pressure for sink and shower fluctuated wildly, from a trickle to splash-all-over-you strong. Minimal amenities - the hotel seems to consist of only a reception desk and a series of rooms. Street noise from college revelers every night (during term)
Ideal location. Breakfast brought to room. A new and modern boutique hotel with a restful decor. Lovely bathroom and comfortable bed.
Stylish, modern, good location. rooms rather small, poor parking
Beautiful rooms, quiet, well decorated and presented Breakfast was derisory, isnt continental as advertised and there was no facility for it. parking is an issue but more of an inconvenience than a problem.
Beautiful decor, clean, spacious
Modern, clean, well presented, nice bathroom, sky television, liked the privacy of our own entrance We stayed in Room 1 - there is a dividing locked door between this room and the next - unfortunately we could hear whatever was going on in the next room - television, toilet flushing, coughing. Parking is available on street however this is problematic unless you arrive after 2pm on a Saturday and leave before 11am on a Sunday and even then, we drove around for a while trying to find one of these spaces. Would have liked to have experienced Oxford longer on the Sunday and whilst there are a few unrestricted permit zones advertised, there were only 3 that we could see and they were always occupied.
Location, clean and modern room Noise - the walls are quite thin and the fridge made quite a lot of noise
Moden & Relaxing Calm atmosphere buffet breakfast could be more imaginative
Good security for each entrance as you need to enter a code to enter your lobby. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room extremely clean, fridge and cupboards well stocked, good quality fixtures and fittings. The bed was the most comfortable i've ever slept in! Also the room was serviced each day we stayed there. Would definately recommend. The reception is not open 24/7 so if you have to check in late you have to do it over the phone. No parking nearby even though the advert said that parking could be found close we couldn't find it. We ended up in a public car park about 15 minutes walk away in the city centre, that ok for us we're young and reasonably fit, this may be a bigger problem for other people however.
Lovely room and staff Noisy guests.
Conveniently located for the city centre with lovely boutique style rooms. The addition of a mini kitchen makes it more like an aparthotel (better than a mini fridge and kettle you get in other hotels) Although having the fridge was great the background noise was a little disrupting at night, but then I'm quite a light sleeper so it may not affect everyone.
Near the pedestrian walkway and close to many shops and pubs. The plumbing is apparently below the sewer line because there was a pump on the sink, toilet, and shower. Problem is it was unpleasantly loud. And I think they missed a plumbing trap, because the bathroom always smelled like sewer gas. But, other than that the room was lovely and quaint. Breakfast was simple but super good. Croissants, butter, jelly fruit, sandwich meats, coffee was good too.
I enjoyed everything about my stay at The Buttery. I wish I was there now. Next year I hope to stay ther again. I had to get back to the Unites States after only one week.
convenient location rooms small & could do with fresh lick of paint. Breakfast minimal & served in next-door restaurant! Not good value for price
the bar and the reception make you feel welcome
The heating was effective and the breakfast was good and promptly delivered at the time requested. The receptionist was friendly and helpful. I had trouble getting hot water in the shower. The tea and coffee tray took up a great deal of the desk space.
Location I did not like this hotel at all.
I only booked the hotel, my colleague who actually stayed said the hotel was comfortable, and services good
The staff were very friendly and helpful, without being stifling. The noise! Really busy location and there was noise from the street below until about 4am.
Comvemiemnt locati to the centre of Oxford. Cleanliness of ther room The bathroom floor was very slipery and coudl eb a danger for an elderly perosn. Also the staircase was slippery anmd itripped down a few starisa t teh bottom.
Clean, close to bus station, a little noisy, adequate for an overnight stay Nothing in particular
convenience to town centre
THe location of the hotel is excellent. I arrived at Oxford late in the evening and took only 10 minutes to get from the central bus station to the hotel. I lived on the 3rd floor, so it was quite enough, although the was facing the George street. Anyway I used earplugs). This hotel is perfect for the short stay! The room was not clean enough, noise from the street
Clean, comfortable, walkable to the Oxford campus and buildings, very friendly hosts Wished it were slightly less expensive!!
Nothing Mold in bathroom in wood panels and through out shower tiles, very dirty vent fan, did not replace tissues, very old mattress, dirty tea kettle
Staff were very pleasant. Close walking distance into Oxford The bedroom was tiny and the shower room smelt stale. The house was 'tired' and there was no hot water in the sink(didn't try the shower)
nice room that was well decorated. friendly staff who were helpful with directions etc no welcome when we arrived, even though we had pre-arranged that we would be arriving late.
Friendly owners, pleasant position Lack of en suite facilities (not serious)
The owner was extremely warm and friendly, as was the service.the roos were impecably clean and newly decorated, and very pleasant. the one draw back was reservation times being limited. One has to call when you arrive at the door as the owner lives somewhere else. For me with a Belgian tel. this was awkward, as it would be for all non-british residens. I dont know what the solution could be!
Clean, reasonably quiet, nice friendly owners/staff, convenient to downtown Oxford Shower a bit cramped, room small
Everything you can expect from a good B&B. Very good location: not far from the centre of Oxford in a quiet street.
The room was clean and obviously recently renovated. However, it was very, very tiny. Breakfast service was fine. Location is fine, 15 min walking from the High Street. Wireless internet service was fine. Checking in very poor - nobody was there, although booking was made one month in advance. By pure chance contractors who renovated a room has left front doors opened, otherwise I would have to wait on the street with my luggage until owner comes back.
1. Close to the center (7-10 min walk). 2. Staff. 3. Breakfast (you can choose between continental or English). 4. Except for the small problem with the overday parking, everything was ok. 1. Though the nearby parking is promised, you will have to put your car into park-and-ride parking place (approx. 2 km southward), which will take you some 15 minutes (including several bus stops). During night, you can leave your car in front of the guest house or in the nearby 2hour parking (night is free).
the breakfast and location Noisy and a couple of rude members of staff. Room 8 & 10 - we struggled getting in and out of the rooms keys locks doors werent right.
Great location I found the service slow both for checkin and breakfast. I also found the common areas of the hotel a bit dirty and smelly, but the rooms were clean.
friendly and responsive staff - great location! poor quality of facilities - needs an upgrade!
the hotel staffs are nice, and the room gave me a feeling of home Nothing
Good central location Very basic facilities which could do with some refurbishment for guest's comfort
Location convenience and proce which was the reason I booked. Nothing in particular. I knew the hotel was next to the main bus station so was expecting the noise but it actually wasn't that bad. The room itself could probably do with a bit of tlc but on the whole for the price and location it was worth it.
Simple accommodation in the town centre
Hotel staff were nice and polite. The location is excellent.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Very central so a little noisy
breakfast noise from people at bus station outside
