We were traveling to VA Tech and the hotel was less than 30 minutes away. The room was very good and the breakfast was very good. No complaints
The layout of room. Booked this hotel because it had an indoor hotel for my kids. Paid the extra price vs other hotels just to have that. Then we get there check in and get changed to take kids to the pool. Got to the pool for half the ceiling to be falling down and the pool turned off. Went and canceled my stay and still waiting on my refund even after being charged another $7 because we had disturbed the looks of the room when we got settled in prior to going to the pool. It has now been 48hrs and like I said still waiting. To note the whole place smelled like smoke.
A bit pricey
Friendly staff, delicious and quality breakfast, clean rooms Hot tub was broken, hallway carpets needed cleaning
That this was a 100% smoke-free hotel It was 5 minutes off 81 It was about halfway point of our driving trip, so very convenient to stay the night, have breakfast, & keep driving. Didn't stay long enough to have a dislike ;)
Well it was better than a super 8 or a motel 6 in a sketchy part of town Such a bad experience! Starting with the stifling hot hallways we entered our room to find the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. We told the front desk the bathroom hadn't been cleaned upon arrival so they gave us a new room that had an awful smell so we told them about it and they said they'd clean the old room for us to take back. There were vomit chucks on the wall still after they cleaned it. Just disgusting! Also, we noticed a lot of our towels were visibly dirty included a towel with tons of tiny hairs. We also put our do not disturb sign out so one of us could sleep a little longer yet housekeeping knocked on the door at 9am and started to come in while we were in bed. I've never been to a hotel that knocked with the do not disturb sign on the door especially that early. The breakfast was pretty standard and quite limited. Definitely nothing fancy but they also never restocked the cereal the whole time we were there so we had even more limited options which was annoying.
your hotel booking subcontractor overbooked the hotel and placed me in a holiday inn, it wasn't very clean. The holiday inn gave us a better rate, so we got double charged. When I contacted your booking subcontractor they stated that they placed us in a Marriott, even though I have evidence of emails where they directed us to holiday inn. now im in a claims adjustment with them and they are not responding. Can kayak step in to alleviate this situation? email@example.com I am happy to send you all of the documentation I sent to them.
It was comfortable and clean. It isn't the nicest place in town but the best value dollar for dollar. The carpet was older but all I did was walk on it.
All was great Nothing
Off the highway so it was quiet for my light sleepers No vending machines. Had to go to the front desk in order to get a soda. When you're traveling with small children, you don't want to have to go downstairs for a drink. Also, the sofa bed didn't have linens so we had to wait for them from the front desk since they didn't have after hours (8pm) housekeeping.
The breakfast was better than most. They had a waffle bar, sausage, eggs, yogurt, fruit, and the usual fare of baked goods and cereals. The staff was friendly and kept everything well stocked. My only complaint was housekeeping entering our room without knocking at 8 in the morning, on the day we were to checkout. We were not dressed, but fortunately were covered. We really didn't appreciate the intrusion, especially because we were checking out that morning, so they could reset the room after we leave.
Nice size rooms, clean and comfortable Breakfast was ok. I wish hotels would stop serving spongy egg disks instead of real eggs, they're gross. Other than that, our stay was pleasant.
Tim at the front desk was amazing. So helpful in a stressful time. All staff were friendly and helpful.
First off, we paid quite a bit more for this hotel compared to the others listed so we were expecting a nice experience. The pillows were old and you might as well have been using a towel as a pillow. Second, we are from New York so we wanted a nice warm hot tub to relax in over the weekend. It was cold and the bubbles did not work. Overall, this is not an awful hotel if you are just passing through. However, it should be listed as $60 a night opposed to $110. If you are going to pay this much, you may as well get one of the other options in this price range.
The place was was easy to find from the interstate. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean, and a variety of food was available in the restaurant. We were exhausted after a long day's drive, and it was nice to be able to have dinner right there without driving anywhere else. Also nice to be able to buy the breakfast buffet before we left the next day. The breakfast buffet was probably better than the dinner, but the dinner was OK and certainly convenient. The woman serving the food was fast, helpful, and very friendly. The food was reasonably good, but pretty basic--e.g., grilled chicken with barbecue sauce was exactly that--a grilled chicken breast with some barbecue sauce poured on it. But this isn't supposed to be an exclusive restaurant, after all!
Bed was clean and VERY comfortable! Room was large with upgrades. Fitness room was spectacular! Normally an advertised fitness room only has two cardio machines and a yoga mat...not the case here! Full set of fumbled free weights, more than 6 cardio machines, and plenty of universal gym machines. This was worthy of a gym membership...but of course included in room. Competing hotels in Toanoke don't offer this. Great value for what was paid $79/night. I'll stay again at that rate! If it were $100+ I likely wouldn't. The ONLY downfall I keep coming back to was the chair in my room. It was worn and ripped, giving it the appearance of a trashier hotel. I cringe writing this bc it doesn't do the hotel service, but needs to be addressed. The entire room was fantastic with exception to that crappy chair. Replace the chair :)
Service was great room was nice. Hot tub was broken and pool was freezing. Would have liked a few dollars credited
Hotel was dirty, you could hear everything in halls and other rooms. Staff took awhile to respond to requests needed.
The hotel atmosphere when you walk in is great. We booked our hotel room (king sized bed) through a third party (Kayak) and our reservation was cancelled once we arrived at the hotel. It was a late evening and it had just started to snow outside. Instead of the front desk being accommodating he gave us a more expensive room and didn't want to give us a king sized bed.
The comfiest bed and pillows and sheets ever, as soon as you lay down you're out! Thin walls, heard people next door having sexual relations.
It was a great hotel. I will be returning!
The staff was terrific. The room was perfect and nicely decorated. We used the shuttlebus. It's a pet friendly hotel and we were across the hall from a yapping terrier.
Pet friendly with a nice green space to walk the dog. The staff was very friendly. It looked like the bathroom had not been swept (one dead bug--it is Virginia though, lots of bugs in this state) and a couple of hairs. That is pretty minor though. Starbucks coffee in the room was nice. The bed was comfortable and clean. They started cleaning my floor (3rd floor) around 8:00 am, so make sure to hang the "do not disturb" sign on the door if you want to sleep in at all.
Good bed. Swimming pool didn't look clean
I liked the start and the hotel. We had a great time in Roanoke and loved out stay. We will come back!
Great service Super friendly, especially the bellmen Clean and comfortable In-room service needed a tweak: I had 3 decafs and no regular coffee Power outlets not available for one of the beds
The room was clean and quiet. Good value for the money. Shula's restaurant was very good.
24 hrs before checking in I received an email offering 3 alternative upgrades if available at 3 different price premiums above my booked room. I was not able to choose which upgrade I might be interested in.
Location and aesthetics. Parking situation is very inconvenient. Had too far to walk and leaving during a rush (our whole group left at once) with only one attendant took nearly 15 minutes to get out.
Guest services was superior and what I expect for a hotel of its caliber. We had a problem with our room and when addressed, we were moved into a suite and also given passes for the executive lounge. Aver unexpected and pleasant surprise. We really only wanted a different room. The location is great for walking in order to enjoy a variety of dining experiences and shopping in the market. The grounds and pool were very pretty and the entrance up to the hotel was very inviting. The rooms were only average, at best. There was hair on the woodwork in the bathroom and the floor was a little dirty. The linens on the bed were also a little scratchy. Not nearly as luxury as I expected. I've stayed in less "luxurious" hotels with softer sheets. The overall decor was old and tired...definitely not grand. It would have been really nice to have coffee service available in the room. I want coffee when I wake up and not have to get dressed, go to the lobby and back up to my room.
A wonderful old hotel within a walk of the Taubman Art Museum and the downtown market. The old Norfolk and Western station across the street which houses a small museum of railroad photos from the end of the steam era was also nice. The hotel grounds were well-kept and when we visited cherries were in bloom. Valet and bell service was very attentive. We had an excellent breakfast on Saturday with first-rate croissants, fresh fruit, and salmon.
The staff at Hotel Roanoke were the definition of customer service, from the housekeeping staff to the management and everyone in between
Historical nature The executive level was not worth the additional money
Great breakfast I knew this was a pet friendly motel but did not expect to hear the sounds of a massive dog pounding the floor above us ALL NIGHT long. Then from 6-8 we heard some dog yapping constantly. When we complained to the front desk they did nothing but tell us we should have called immediately and all they could do was check the videos.
Hotel was clean and remodeling made it appear newer and more modern than it actually was. Breakfast was fairly good for a 2.5 to 3 star hotel however there was not enough room in the breakfast area to seat many of the guests wanting to eat.
The hotel was clean and new with a room that met all our needs. Nice beds, pillows and the shower was excellent. Breakfast options were more limited than some other hotels in the same price range. There were a lot of people for breakfast and they seemed unprepared and there really was not room for all the people. This could have been an exception because of the holiday but it did exist nonetheless.
Room smelled. Commode seat was off hinges... Bathroom light was out.Since I checked in late...so maintenance was not available... Had to go to local store to buy Lysol spray Lysol to spray in my room and my mothers room smelled like mold... We sat out side for about an hour 1/2 to bring the smell out of our rooms.
Very worn property. Dirty old carpet. Paint peeling in the bathroom. Property needs an entire update. Price was low and so was the quality.
The view The pillows were like rocks
The only upside to the hotel is the price and it was easy to get to from the highway The carpet in the room was wet and the room smelled due to a lack of ventilation. On of the beds was broke and so was the TV. It was supposed to be a non-smoking room but it smell like cigarettes.
I liked how secluded the hotel was from the highway. The view was phenomenal. I spent my last day watching the sun rise over the mountains. The free WiFi and Continental breakfast are not bad for the price. It was clean and what you'd expect for the price. The staff was rude to me when I was fist checking in. I think he was annoyed with me, but after ringing the bell and calling out, I had to call the front desk on my phone, and wait 3 more minutes for him to hear I was there. That was fine, and I was pleasant, but his reaction from then on was very rude. The bed was so uncomfortable it started giving me joint problems. The walls were paper thin. It was fine my first night since almost nobody was at the hotel, but on the second night I could hear my neighbors and people outside very clearly.
The view which they charged an extra 5 dollars a night Breakfast everything stale and old room clean but dated and dark toliet so low to the floor no need for a squatty potty
Very nice hotel. Comfortable bed and room. Cleanliness was very good. Breakfast area was cramped but quality and selection was better than the competition. Room soundproofing could be better. Traffic on street noticeable. Could hear footsteps in room upstairs.
Everyone was nice and helpful. Room was very clean. Breakfast was good That there was not mirror in bedroom
Close to where I needed to be The facility was old and worn out, breakfast was not very good. I wouldn't stay here again
Best service I have received in 10 years. Clean, comfortable bed and great location near many downtown amenities.
The staff I encountered were all friendly and helpful. The room was plenty big enough, with sitting area as well as sleeping area. The location is convenient to major hospital and other businesses in the downtown area of Roanoke The parking garage had spacious spots but limited number.
Very comfortable and clean.
Very nice, modern facilities.
I liked the big room and the updated bedding. There were plenty of lights as well. Breakfast was pretty subpar and the heat worked on and off but overall it was a nice place to stay.
What a dump. There was no heat, sheets were not clean and towels smelled badly.
Very quiet room even thought he hotel is located in a busy location. Room smelled fresh and comforters were fluffy with plenty of pillows. Staff was very friendly and courteous and accommodating. Within walking distance of Kroger's grocery, McDonalds and Hardee's and other businesses. Had mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker in room. Breakfast was included and had cheese omelets, sausage, oatmeal, cereal, bagels, toast, waffles, yogurt and apples. Good value. Long wait for hot water. It did come, but you have to turn on shower and wait several minutes.
Not much. The room was dirty, service was rude, not a lot of people there, and on the periphery of town. This was the cheapest hotel I could find on the Salem-Roanoke area of VA and it definitely was the most basic, nasty places in the area.
Front desk staff were wonderful. Room was lovely. The location atop the hill is beautiful and unique. The hotel itself is pretty and clean, food was decent. We loved visiting Roanoke, it was a great town and easy to get around. We would stay again. We were not fans of the bartender. There was no warmth about her, and no attempt to engage us in conversation. Also, the hotel's pillows are way too soft and deflated. Dirty washcloth left in same place all 3 days of our stay.
The pillows were perfect. Trust me. Also, a number of nice restaurant's were very close by.
The staff was very courteous and attentive It was a busy holiday weekend but there should have been more staff in the evenings and breakfast to help with cleaning and there was a fallen tree blocking the entrance/exit to the hotel
The beds were comfortable We had a leak under the sink the carpet was wet. We called about it and they said someone would come check on it but nobody showed up. Another thing was they put us in a room next to the elevator so we heard the elevator go up and down all night was kinda noisey in the middle of the night. The drains did not drain like they should. And nothing was done about that.
We were literally there for only 9 hours, but it provided the exact level of comfort we wanted and would want if we stayed longer. The king was very comfortable, there was plenty of room with a huge sofa and there was a large wet bar with mini fridge. It seemed that the hotel was very new. And the woman at the front desk was exceptionally pleasant. Nada!
the staff where very helpfull
The staff was friendly and efficient. A good welcoming upon check in. The room at first glance was very modern decor and tasteful. Plenty of space. Convenient location with lots of restaurants and shopping. The fridge was not working. We didn't find this out till we came back that evening with drinks and by morning, still nothing. The mattress was very uncomfortable. Very noisy with springs, "popping" when someone moved. Made for a very restless night.
Great service and breakfast. Staff was friendly and helpful. Proximity to mall a plus.
Room was spacious. Cost was reasonable. Breakfast was great!
loved the breakfast, especially the "egg mcmuffins" which were far superior to those at McDonalds.
Location to highway and restaurants was perfect. Our room was next to elevator and that took space away from the room. The bathroom was incredibly tight. Be warned if you have a do not disturb sign on your door when the cleaning staff to by- they will not come by later and clean your room at all. Wish we had known that.
nothing decoration noisy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Can't sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bed was quite comfortable. Staff were nice and professional Room condition was poor, most notably there was plaster falling off the ceiling and obvious water damage with a piece of ceiling plaster falling down that night. Morning continental breakfast didn't have an remotely healthy option (apples were there but had a bunch of worm holes.
Beds were super comfortable.
The free breakfast was good. Only a small bottle of conditioner and lotion were provided- no shampoo or body wash. Also, no soap for hand washing, so we didn't wash our hands at all during our stay. When my mother in law and I walked in after getting off the motorcycles, the guy behind the desk proceeded to tell us about two women on motorcycles that had recently been killed nearby! There was also blood on the walkway at the bottom of the stairs.
This is not a hotel, it is a motel. The photos of the lobby look nice- it is not. small, old, low ceilings.
Friendly staff, close to some restaurants and grocery store, pool, clean room
The non-smoking room was very clean; we where happy about that. The breakfast nook in the hotel lobby was about average for this class of budget motel with only 2 small 2-person tables. But this is to be expected.
The location was right, but all the lodging here was way overpriced (college family weekend?) This one was the least offensive in their pricing. It was quite noisy. Traffic in the hall and footsteps in rooms above were loud...seemed to be minimal sound insullation used during construction.
The mattress was terrible. The floor would have been more comfortable. They need to hire someone who can paint - attempts to do so were far from professional.
This hotel is conveniently located right off I-81 exit 137; it is clean and well run. The staff is friendly and helpful. Many good restaurants are located close by. This is a no frills hotel; so no pool, hot tub, or workout facilities. But if you are just looking for clean place to stay a night, it is suitable for that.
We needed an inexpensive hotel near I-81 with restaurants nearby. This hotel fit the bill. The staff was pleasant and the room was clean but nothing fancy. The Mexican restaurant was withing walking distance and excellent. We were up too early to try the breakfast. The room was adequate and reasonably priced.
I paid a decent price for 4 days and 3 nights. Look this hotel isn't the Hilton, but it's not bad. The staff was great, and they were very respectful of residents privacy. They are quiet, when cleaning other rooms and in the hall. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. I really enjoyed my visit, and next trip to Roanoke/Salem I will stay there.
Friendly front office manager. Exterior door in the back of hotel did not lock. No phone available in room.
Front desk employees were very nice and helpful. The $10/person breakfast buffet was awful. It was the same food that other hotels offer as part of the cost of the stay. Very expensive and disappointing. We did not eat it and chose to spend our money on better food.
Comfortable bed. Microwave and Kreuger coffee pot in room. Refrigerator. Staff very friendly and helpful. Did not purchase the breakfast as the hotel was far to busy....can't image the breakfast chaos. Noisy hallways, hearing neighbors through the walls. Not sure why other guests think it's ok to yell from one end of a very long corridor to the other end?! The particular night I stayed it was sold out and very crowded and noisy. If you walk out the front door people were smoking so you couldn't even get to your car in the crowded parking lot without breathing their smoke. Ick.
Absolutely nothing I had a room that smelled of mold. They moved me to another room and it was just as bad. After an email to corporate they offered me a night free. That's not happening
We made our reservation two months in advance and when we got to the motel we did not have a reservation. Our rooms probably were given away for the higher price. It was liberty university graduation and when we booked the rooms they were at regular price. All of the hotels and motels brought their prices up higher for the graduations.
Staff was helpful. Non-smoking room reeked of smoke. Burns on sides of the sink was evidence of it. There was a slow drip coming from the ceiling in the bathroom. Very slow, but when we arrived there was a puddle on the bathroom floor and when we got up in the am it was back and bigger.
The room itself was very clean. There were only 2 towels in the room, our room had 2 beds, and we were traveling with one of our kids as well, 2 towels for three people want enough. Not too sure about the neighborhood... We were awake until 1am or so and there were LOTS of people in the parking lot and wandering around being very loud. Lots of noise from the rooms upstairs.
The room smelled gross, wasn't clean, and I found a bug in my bed. After I found the bug, I decided to leave, and they thankfully refunded me. At least they had good customer service.
First room they gave me had not been cleaned
I have asthma, and needed a non-smoking room, which I asked for when I made my reservation. They showed me three different rooms, all listed as non-smoking, but all smelled of cigarettes. I was exhausted after a long day, and finally decided to leave Motel 6 and look for a room somewhere else.
