Pros:The guys at the agency were nice.
Cons:The check in was a bit long I booked a peugeot 308 automatic and I got a mini The guy at the agency presented it as an upgrade as my car wasn't available. I didn't know yet what I was getting into so I agreed. If I would have known how uncomfortable this car was I would have said no!!! I booked the 308 to have a spacious and comfortable car to do our tour of Scotland. The mini didn't match our expectations in comfort at all!!!! We had to have a break every hour because of the pain on our backs and legs!!!
Pros:Returning the vehicle was quick and simple.
Cons:Given different size vehicle than was shown. Being charged more than double the original amount to get correct size vehicle and zero customer service from both Kayak and Sixt. Vehicle was received filthy with wrappers, chewed fingernail clippings, and dirt everywhere making it impossible to verify any current damage prior to assuming responsibility for vehicle. Disgusting experience that I don't intend to repeat with either company.
Pros:Customer service at point of rental was pleasant, efficient all-round service when I had the car.
Cons:I received a letter to my UK Address (I live in Russia) a week after returning the car stating there is reported damage and asking for feedback from me. As a result SIXT asked my bank to place a block on the card I used to hire the car with, so the past 7 days my card has been blocked and I had no idea until a family member opened a posted letter regarding this. I'd have appreciated an email as well as a hardcopy, then I could have dealt with the problem swiftly.
Cons:I paid in advance for the rental insurance through Kayak . When we arrived to pick-up the car, we were told that they would not honor the insurance that Kayak had sold and that I would need to call and get a refund. We had to buy Sixt's very expensive insurance which was the same rate as the car rental itself! When we were given a detailed receipt there were so many extra charges, including the afore-mentioned insurance, an extra driver fee of £100 and a drop-off fee. All in all, the cost was 3 x the expected amount. Very bad experience as it felt like we were taken advantage of.
Pros:Ease and speed of dropping off
Cons:The surprise “extra” insurance I had to purchase before being allowed to drive off the lot as the Kayak insurance was not adequate
Make sure when you’re in Scotland you’re aware business close at 16:00 on weekdays. We arrived after that and SIXT charged us, wouldn’t let us cancel and wouldn’t refund us money
Cons:Actual cost was doubled due to required insurance. Would not accept my credit card’s collision damage coverage.
Total lack of transparency regarding the daily price. We prebooked/prepaid a class and the end charge was double what we expected. No mention at the counter. You don’t get a copy of the invoice at drop off - you get it days later and then they make it difficult to see the charges/details. Unacceptable customer experience with Sixt.
Pros:Courteous staff and excellent clean vehicles
Cons:Fairly long wait at pick up as staff dealt with walk in customers which somewhat defeated the purpose of pre booking
Pros:They say they credited me after not having car I ordered available - have not verified that yet.
Cons:They did not have my car “because my flight was delayed” got a much smalller car and they offered no refund until I complained on social media. Upon return tried to ding me for a problem with tire. The person on desk day I arrived was rude and tried to upsell me
