Scores according to KAYAK customer reviews
Pros: "Great crew"
Cons: "The plane to Guatemala was the worst plane I've got in on"
Pros: "Getting to my destination"
Cons: "Having air conditioning on an aircraft on a hot summer day is critical. Especially on a 2 hours delay on the tarmac!"
Pros: "Good flight. 3 hour duration at night. I flew in first class, as the extension of my business class flight from Paris."
Cons: "Had to use a wheelchair service in terminals. Me and another victim were wheeled to 40 feet from the check in desk and the guy took off without further instruction. I hobbled to the counter to make sure we were on the pre-board list. Defeats the purpose, but whatever....."
Pros: "Crew was very nice."
Cons: "Boarding took forever and made me almost miss my connecting flight."
Cons: "I paid extra for an emergency exit seat. The seats in the row were visibly different from ones nearby -- the seat padding was gone (felt like I was sitting on a board) and the seat bottoms slanted down producing a feeling of sliding out of the seat."
Cons: "Flight could have been on time"
Cons: "Es on flight 5799 which was delayed over four hours and finally cancelled. Delay without explanation but did not appear to be weather related. Cancelled because no crew available. Put on another flight that was to leave st 10:45, but delayed due to weight restrictions without luggage."
Pros: "On time everything"
Cons: "More refreshments"
Cons: "21/2 delay....no explanariin. But flight attendants did not show up until 9:15 and yet plane had been on the ground since 8:30. Seems poor planning on airline’s part"
Cons: "No one knew what was going on. We boarded late, then sat there for 40 minutes with no communication, then we had to de-plane. But they couldn't get the jet way to work, so it took forever."
Pros: "The crew was good"
Cons: "Paid $330.00 +/- for a one way ticket. Some how i messed up on the date and had it for 8/3/18 instead of 8/2/18. Had to pay an additional $500 + for the change. I understand that the fault didn't lie with AA, however, the rate for changing the ticket borders on the ridiculous. I have to travel quite a bit as of late for work, I am doing all i can to Avoid using American. There were others on the flight that paid for first class that didn't pay as much as me and i was stuck in boarding group 6. It really feels as though American is only in it for the dollars, not the customer service."
Cons: "Flight delayed due to weather issues then compounded by crew issues. Would have been tolerable if they had been upfront about it instead of doing the one hour delay, then another hour, then another hour ad nauseum. More than 3 hours total."
Cons: "The plane was so hot, by the time we landed everyone was literally dripping from sweat. It was so uncomfortable that it was cooler outside of the plane even though it was 83 degrees when we landed."
Pros: "Not much."
Cons: "The economy fare.....why are people who travel together not put together if possible? Why are all the seats At the back next to the bathroom??"
Pros: "The plane had really soft, puffy, comfy headrests. These were the best headrests I've ever encountered on any flight. I wish these were on every plane."
Cons: "1. Departure gate gets inexplicably moved to an entirely different concourse. 2. Gate agent offers to check bags through to destination, then when I go up, offers to gate-tag my bag. Why did you say you could check the bags through, then? 3. The long, ridiculous AA boarding process consisting of 9 groups and 2 short lanes, taking about 20 minutes to get 30 people outside. 4. 30 people wander around outside on the tarmac, trying to find a sign for Albuquerque. 5. BAGGAGE HANDLERS tell some of the passengers that the planes have been switched, and we should now board the plane marked Flagstaff. 6. Gate agents come outside, receive information from -- again -- BAGGAGE HANDLERS -- and then tell everyone to go back inside. 7. Once inside, gate agents tell passengers they have no idea what is going on, where they will be departing from, or when. 8. Gate agents tell passengers to go through the (long, ridiculous) boarding process a second time, and get on the second plane on the left. 9. A couple of PASSENGERS remind the gate agent that the baggage handlers specifically said that plane was not going to Albuquerque. 10. Gate agents change their minds, and tell passengers to get on a different plane. 11. We finally get on the damn plane."
Pros: "A few ground staff tried to help, this was good of them."
Cons: "The flight was delayed by three hours. I missed the following flight. American Airlines ground staff in Dallas (with the exception of one person) were terrible as the refused to help me get a new flight (since the flight was ticketed on BA). They also said the delay with American Eagle had nothing to do with them. I lost my one and only upgrade because of this and had to spend the night in Dallas. American Airlines are terrible."
Pros: "Great and friendly airline crew"
Pros: "First class is always comfortable"
Cons: "Headline tells it all. First thing passenger did when he sat down was hand flight attendant a$5 bill, which she accepted she made sure he and the others in row one were served preboard refreshment. The rest of us not, as she was so engaged with the favored passenger. Not good!"
Pros: "IFE very good"
Cons: "No legroom"
Cons: "Old plane No outlet No screen No USB Poor food quality"
Pros: "The crew was pleasent and helpful"
Cons: "Didn't get my bag, on either end"
Cons: "The flight was five hours late leaving Phoenix due to not having a crew"
Cons: "AA claimed the overhead storage was full and took my carry-on. Except I walked by at least 15 spots that easily would have fit my bag. They made us pay $50 to check-in luggage, but then didn't bother to put the bags on our flight. They also tried to charge us twice for the privilege of checking bags. They had no flights that would get us home on the same day, then claimed that since 12 hours had elapsed, we had to repay to check bags. During the flight, they had non stop commercials for their credit card. Ugh"
Cons: "No problems."
Pros: "I hope I never fly American again!!! We were supposed to leave at 2.pm, but dud not until 11 pm. The AA customer service staff wanted to charge me $ for my carry on! We missed our connection of course! Had to wait 2 hrs at next airport for a hotel. Did receive food vouchers and luggage was checked in right away (good thing). But overall ridiculous! Missed an entire day due to AA not having another plain? Or not finding another way to put passengers in other flights."
Cons: "Customer treatment and lack of interest on custmer satisfaction. The Denver staff was changed so often they had no clue about customers needs and it was all about making the bucks for the airline."
Cons: "No in flight entertainment. Delayed"
Pros: "Uncertain why there are 9 boarding groups, seems to be excessive/confusing."
Pros: "It was a short trip, LA to Albuquerque. Flight attendants were nice, plane was clean, and I was comfortable enough to sleep all 2 hours"
Pros: "I like the food."
Cons: "Japanese shows without eng subs."
Cons: "Cramped seating, uncomfortable cabin temperature, very hard/jolting landing"
Pros: "I usually don't like or at the meal in coach, but I had a ravioli pasta dish that was great. Also the wine was a much better quality then what I have been getting on the other airlines."
Cons: "On my particular row of seats the power outlets were dead. The flight attendant tried to reset, which reset the entertainment but the outlet remained dead. Used the USB port to charge."
Cons: "Flight path at the end had to many turns kinda made me sick"
Pros: "Comfortable seats."
Cons: "Internet slow to access."
Pros: "Friendly crew"
Cons: "Zero entertainment. Flight sat on tarmac as they tried to fix some technical issues after taxiing"
Cons: "delayed and missed connecting flight"
Cons: "Prices are high and changes are frequent on rates"
Pros: "Flight got cancelled"
Pros: "It he seats were very comfortable There was enough leg space Crew was excellent The timing was good"
Pros: "Staff was kind."
Cons: "Lots of turbulence."
Pros: "Flight was on time."
Cons: "Seats are uncomfortable, too narrow, and little leg room."
Pros: "Friendly crew."
Cons: "I did not like how I requested a same day flight, was presented with a low fare, so I took it, and it was deceptively a different day months in the future. . . This is not a flight I feel I should have paid for, as I feel I was deceived"
Pros: "Chargers in the back of the seat for devices Friendly staff Nice quality airplanes"
Cons: "Paid for WiFi, and it was very choppy and slow. Took over 3-4 min, and several refreshes to send/receive an email."
Pros: "Nothing, got food poisoning from the sub standard meal that apparently wasn't no fit for human consumption."
Cons: "Terrible good, overly surly service and broken luggage that made it across the Atlantic but couldn't make it from JFK to SFO without being thrown in assuming a 12 plus times. Worst trip I have flown in my lifetime."
Cons: "Due to two flight delays, I traveled an additional 24 hours, on top of my 20 hour original flight. Albuquerque Airline staff were rude, dismissive, incompetent, and each individual I spoke with gave me wildly differing information. The two delays (leading to approximately 48 hours of travel) would have been stressful enough, but the callous, ignorant and unprofessional attitudes of American Airlines staff (and staff in general at Chicago O'Hare Airport) really disappointed me. This was even more striking compared with the professional service I received from British Airways (from whom I purchased the tickets). I was ashamed that my country could lag so far behind in terms of basic customer service and problem solving."
Pros: "Old aircraft with horrible seats with absolutely no comfort. Love seeing duck tape on a plane when flying."
Pros: "The flight attendant was amazing. She was friendly, courteous and went out of her way to make my flight very enjoyable."
Pros: "Ease of finding gate"
Cons: "There were several cases of couple who purchased tickets together were separated on the plane & no one knew why they were arranged that way. No solution offered at counter."
Pros: "Great crew"
Cons: "Plane was over 2 hours late. It was tiny. Super claustrophobic."
Pros: "What did I like? Nothing. It was United Airlines, and it has been a long time since there was ANYTHING to like about United. Usually, the best one can hope for is that there is plenty to TOLERATE. Unfortunately, this trip did not rise to that standard."
Cons: "UA to Denver cancelled due to maint, issue. Re-booked thru LAX on Delta. Arrived 12 AM vs. planned 6 PM (w/ 7 AM meeting the next day). Delta is 6-block walk outdoors from United at LAX. TSA pre-check didn't show on the Delta ticket issued by United, leading to another hassle at Security."
Cons: "2 hour delay."
Pros: "Things were new"
Cons: "Seats were smaller, legroom was less, seatbacks when fully upright push your heard forward so when I fell asleep, my head kept falling, NO FREE ENTERTAINMENT. They tell you to download the app mid-flight to get free entertainment, but you need to pay for wifi to access the app store."
Pros: "It was a short flight"
Cons: "The persons sitting next to me"
Pros: "This United flight was really an embarrassment when it comes to international flights for many reasons."
Pros: "Seats very uncomfortable. Food poor. Downloading an app for entertainment... a joke!"
Cons: "Seats very uncomfortable. Food poor. Downloading an app for entertainment... a joke!. 737 far past their prime."
Pros: "Great crew!"
Cons: "Not the airline’s fault. Bumpy ride."
Pros: "comfortable seat"
Cons: "delayed 2.5 hrs, stood in jetway for 15 mins while crew fixed seatbelt issue. snack was poor; limited options for soda, small pour & only pretzels as snack!"
Pros: "The flight actually left."
Cons: "Poor communication. Flight originally at 11:35, then 12:05, then 12:15... At 11:55, they said they would start boarding in 20 min. How can you do that and still take off at 12:15? Answer: you can't. Just be honest and keep us informed. Bonus: United sent me an email saying that connection had already left (it hadn't - thanks United! - awesome service as always!)"
Pros: "Very easy and smooth flights"
Cons: "Had a one hour delay on thtarmac waiting for de-icing...weather related."
Pros: "Good progress info in-flight from cockpit"
Cons: "TSA lines at SFO Terminal 3 are a zoo, precheck included. United gates had no facilities available to plug in a charger. C'mon folks, it's 2017, one wall outlet with two kids sprawled on the carpet next to it isn't enough. The 'grab a snack' box had one crumpled cellophane package of peanut butter crackers. Yum."
Cons: "I appreciate the in-flight entertainment idea, but the execution leaves something to be desired."
Cons: "Personal entertainment did not work. Most first and business class airlines have a screen to see the movies."
Pros: "Flight was late"
Cons: "Thirty minute delay with pushback in San Francisco"
Pros: "I liked the organized boarding and unboarding."
Cons: "There is nothing about my flight that I didn't like."
Cons: "some folks didn't use ear phones watching shows so i had to hear annoying entail mentioned selections. I had ear plugs fortunately :) didn't find anything I'd watch in entertainment. enjoy learning/science/documentaries"
Pros: "The attendants tried to be cheerful in a difficult situation."
Cons: "Once we were boarded we waited for a long time in a crowded stifling hot plane. Requests to the crew were met with helplessness on their part!"
Pros: "There were no delays"
Cons: "Even for a smaller person like myself, it was quite cramped--moreso than what I've noted in the past"
Pros: "Really fast and efficient boarding"
Cons: "The flight was really bumpy which I realize isn't anyone's fault but I couldn't wait till we landed...also they announced that as soon as we were at a certain altitude they would begin beverage service....which I was really looking forward too , and then ten minutes later they announced that they were cancelling beverage service."
Pros: "We arrived on time and I had no problems ."
Cons: "Everything was ok."
Pros: "Don't do it."
Cons: "The ticket was over- priced, the staff was untimely and indifferent, they were overbearing and incompetent."
Pros: "Everything went smoothly and as planned."
Cons: "nothing to complain about on this flight."
Pros: "It was on time and I had no problems whatsoever."
Pros: "The crew was polite and courteous. Aircraft was clean. The flight even landed way ahead of schedule. Overall a great return flight"
Cons: "The food seemed overpriced for what it was. I passed as it didn't look very appealing."
Pros: "Only good thing was the flight was fast and on flight staff friendly."
Cons: "Flight to Denver was supposed to leave from Albuquerque at 9:55. Screen said flight was on time. No rep at desk and screen changes to Houston and only way we found out our flight was delayed because the plane was diverted to Durango is because another passenger called United. Finally at a quarter till 11am the screen at the gate changed back to Denver but still said 9:55am departure flight on time but united's website stated flight delayed till 11:55am. Upon return to Albuquerque from Denver bag was not on my flight so I had to hang out in Albuquerque although, I live an hour away because I have prescription meds in my checked bag I need to take 4 times daily. Would not fly United again"
Pros: "Again, great staff at the gate and crew aboard. Short flight but very comfortable."
Cons: "It was freezing!"
Pros: "The crew was very courteous and kept us up to date."
Cons: "I did not like that both planes they put us on were broken. We were very delayed"
Pros: "On time both ways"
Pros: "Staff was nice and attentive"
Cons: "Flight was delayed"
Pros: "Same as above"
Pros: "No surprises."
Cons: "Small seats"
Pros: "I liked the fact that it was a direct flight and the departure and arrival times were just perfect. I really liked the cookies they had. If I had wanted to use it, there was WiFi available."
Cons: "We took off late due to mechanical problems and I think the practice of allowing first class passengers to board first and then get in the way of other people trying to board later is inefficient."
Pros: "Also a very solid crew!"
Pros: "The flight was safe, the crew courteous. Why persist in jamming people into seating that is uncomfortable and unhealthy."
Cons: "Why persist in jamming people into seating that is uncomfortable and unhealthy."
Pros: "Okay crew."
Cons: "Cramped, uncomfortable seating. Departure time and gate changes."
Cons: "When traveling with a service animal, it's kind of a given that I would be seated where there would be room for my dog. My dog is 70 pounds. There was no room for him to sit in front of me. The flight attendant just says "he can't sit in the isle". I asked her where would you like him to go? She says "not in the isle". A 2nd attendant was able to move me to a front row where there was space for him to sit on the floor in front of me."
Pros: "The crew was very nice, the food was good and boarding was quick."
Cons: "The seats were terribly uncomfortable, and the WiFi was expensive. Plus, when I got to my destination, my suitcase has been damaged and a few items were missing."
Pros: "No problem flight"
Cons: "Announcements from cockpit inaudible"
Pros: "Left and got into destination early"
Pros: "My first trip as a handicapped traveler. All airline staff made me feel comfortable and welcome."
Cons: "In the Denver airport one of the wheelchair pushers let me stranded. The airline staff came to my rescue and got me to the restrooms and down the ramp to the airplane to Albuquerque."
Pros: "Was on a larger regional small jet. The service was great. Lots of legroom."
Pros: "Everything was new. They provided blankets. Seats had potential for being comfortable."
Cons: "Sardines. Very little room to move and seats only recline about an inch. If there was wifi it was too slow to be useful. Reminds me of dial up days only slower. And that was only to get United info. Could not access outside world. Overall still way better than Spirit but also not in league with JetBlue or Virgin."
