From DTW to PHX still didn't get a confirmation email 24 hrs in advance again with any policys or check in. Arrived "on time" but wouldn't let us and other paying customers through to our gate...wanted to make me pay additionally for our return flight the NEXT day when we both had to miss work. Was very disappointed with customer service and the way thinga were handled from the beginning. Frontier has really declined as of recent. Supposed to be going on a trip in October and initially was going to use frontier but not sure I will be any longer. Wouldn't recommend to anyone after that."

If anyone uses the bromide "the customer is all important", cite this example as proof positive of the lie that is that tired statement. This circumstance, was, essentially no one's fault and yet the employee reaction on behalf of Frontier airlines speaks volumes to the general attitude that the ORGANIZATION takes toward its paying customers. Due to delays on the first leg of the trip from DC to Denver, the connecting flight was missed. This is understandable on its own, as I have no expectation that a second flight would be held for me. However, the fact that Frontier, as an organization, feels ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION WHATSOEVER to assisting their customers in arriving to their ultimate destination in a timely manner means they will never, EVER, get my money again. To make matters worse, the two options they DID offer, were unacceptable: 1) Offered a flight to an airport an hour away from my destination & 2) Offered a flight to my actual destination...two days later (in the airport on Tuesday; they offered to get me on a flight to my destination Thursday) AND this offer with absolutely no assistance regarding sleeping arrangements for TWO NIGHTS. In short, trip was complicated for which I do not blame Frontier. However, their complete lack of customer service to a paying customer ultimately has cost them future customers. My family travels frequently and I will certainly advise any and all persons I know NOT TO EVER TRAVEL ON FRONTIER AIRLINES! I will, however, recommend the FAR MORE CUSTOMER FRIENDLY DELTA airlines)"

My knees touched the seat in front of me the whole flight. And the seats don't recline. To make everything just perfect, they lost my luggage on the flight home, and the lady who worked with Frontier who took all 15 (?) of us who had lost luggage over to make a claim said "this is normal for flights coming from Denver - it's a hub for Frontier, so luggage gets misplaced all the time." I'm sorry, that's not acceptable as an answer. I've never had a lost bag while flying with others, so that's what I will do from now on."

Every leg of my trip was this way. On my way out I flew a red-eye and planned to sleep because I had business to deal with once I landed. Without legroom or being able to recline I was too uncomfortable to get any sleep. I also had to pay for carry-on AND check baggage? Is a person not supposed to bring anything with them when they fly? Lastly, if I wanted to sit anywhere comfortable or in a reclining seat I again have to pay to upgrade? This fact was unknown to me until the online check in process. Overall, I'm very dissatisfied with my experience. I have another trip next week and I already chose to pay $100 more for American Airlines instead of frontier, I will have comfort, food, wifi, won't have to pay for my baggage. This is America, we expect comfort. At least give us wifi. My experience with Frontier has made up my mind about paying more to get treated the way I deserve, not as if I was flying in a C130 Cargo plane."

I was 1.5 hours early for my boarding time and ended up missing my flight due to no representatives at the counter and a 90 minute phone call with Frontier customer service. I am a frequent traveler and use Frontier for 90% of my flights. I will soon start flying with other airliners and build points with them as I am fed up with the lack of organization and care that Frontier has for its customers. I should be compensated for all the troubles I have been through with Frontier over the past few years!!"

If you want to fly Frontier, I want to make sure you’re forewarned. Their slogan is “A different kind of animal.” This animal is very cunning. And slightly savage. First, if you’ve been suckered into their $59 airfares, you already know what’s waiting for you. Wait. You actually want to fly back home? Well you’ll end up paying the same price as you would most any other airline. But wait…what’s this? Actually, their rates are about $100 cheaper than normal. What they don’t tell you is, they charge $30 for you to carry on your own baggage. I always thought it was ludicrous to charge me to carry my own bag onto a plane. Keep in mind that’s one way. So it’s $60 round trip. And that’s their discounted rate if you book online. It goes way up if you’re one of the unfortunates who wait till you’re at the kiosk to settle up with the Frontier Friskers. Oh, you say you want to actually choose your seat? That’s $13 minimum. For each leg of your trip. Don’t be surprised if they figure out a way to charge you for each leg of your body. That’s for a normal seat. If you don’t cough up the $13, they’ll randomly seat you wherever they want. I wouldn’t be surprised if they counted the lavatory as a possibility. So, that’s $60 for your own carry-on luggage. And a minimum $26 if you dare to choose your own cheap seat. Hmm. That $100 savings is looking rather slim right now. Speaking of slim, that describes their seats. And they don’t recline. You’re straight upright your whole trip. And the padding is about as comfortable as a cheap mattress in a cheap motel. The best way I can describe the feeling: Say you’re on Sesame Street and your job is to sit on the capital letter ‘L” for two hours. So while spending what feels like an eternity in L, maybe you’d like something to quench your thirst. That’s $1.99. Water? $1.99. A snack? $2.99. I’m surprised they don’t charge for toilet paper. By the square. (To be fair, I just learned that a cup of water is actually free. “For today,” said the flight attendant. “That could change.”) Nice Surprise: The people who work for Frontier are generally nice. But if this is the way Frontier treats their customers, how do they treat their employees? Do they make their mechanics buy their own tools? I wrote to the company to let them know how hugely disappointed I am with their changes. I never got the courtesy of a reply. I somehow like to imagine the CEO, in the true spirit of “no frills”, answering each customer letter by himself on an Olivetti typewriter from the 1970s. But I kind of doubt it. So there you have it. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. And if you have four arms, well, you might just fit their new slogan. Frontier Airlines: A whole different way to treat people like animals."

They charge you $1.99 for basic sodas offered by most every other airline for free. And they charge you $2.99 per snack. The seat are slim, terribly uncomfortable with virtually no padding and they don't recline! They don't respond when you write them."

When it was time to check in on-line, it appeared every seat was either considered a premium seat or was not available. Middle seats and seats near the lav were considered premium. And the fee was either $20 or $35. I elected not to pay for a premium seat and took my chances that I would actually get a seat when I checked in at the counter. I believe they also charge for soda."

I logged into "My Trips" yet at no time was there ever a link to make a flight change. Really disappointing considering I had very little time to spend doing this due to a family member being in the process of dying."

Cons: "We arrived at the airport and were through security over an hour prior to our flight's takeoff. We decided to grab breakfast at a restaurant approximately 2-3 gates down from our gate. We arrived back at our gate 17 minutes prior to the departure time and the door to the entryway was already closed. No spirit attendants remained at the gate to assist or inform us about who we should speak to regarding this matter. We sat at the gate and watched our flight take over 15 minutes to pull away from entryway with no one available to direct us. After the plane pulled away, a few Spirit staff members came back out the door to the gate, and when we inquired as to why our names were not called throughout the airport (as we heard many other names called while sitting at the airport) they informed us we would have to talk to the customer service desk if we had an issue. We went to the customer service desk and they put us on another flight, which did not depart until late that day. We went to the customer service desks of 3 other airlines attempting to find a sooner flight, and when we explained Spirit closed the gates 17 minutes early, each airline stated that the industry standard is 10 minutes. Not only does Spirit not follow the industry standard, but they also shut the gates 2minutes prior to Spirit's standard which is 15 minutes before the flight. Additionally, no effort was made to call our names prior to the flight, as is customary with all airlines. Two days later, we went to board our return flight, which a week prior to our trip we paid $585 to change to that day, and when we went to check in we were not scheduled to be on that return flight. We showed proof of switching our flight and luckily the attendant was able to get us on that flight, however, we were extremely rushed getting through security and due to Spirit's mistake almost missed this flight as well. If no seats would have been available we would not have been able to get home despite paying to switch the flight a week in advanced. Overall, we were very disappointed with our experience traveling with Spirit and would not recommend the airline to anyone. We are frequent travelers for both business and recreation and have never experienced such poor customer service."

Cons: "When I purchased my ticket I paid extra for an isle exit row seat. On the day of my flight I got an email plenty early that the flight had been delayed an hour with no explanation why, which stinks. Once on the plane we found out that the reason we were delayed was because they changed the planes that morning and we needed to wait for an extra stewardess to get to the airport bc of the plane change. This is HORRIBLE planning, if you don't have the staff don't change the plane!! Also because of the plane change my seat was no longer in an exit row. When I explained to the stewardess that I paid extra for my seat that was supposed to be in an exit row I was told that I needed to return to my seat and they will fix it after they are done boarding. Once everyone was on the plane they told me that I was "lucky" because there was still a middle seat in an exit row available... Again I had PAID EXTRA for an ISLE EXIT ROW seat when I purchased the ticket but now I am lucky they can seat me in the last exit tow seat available. When I brought up the fact that I shouldn't have to complain to get the seat that I had already paid for the stewardess gave me attitude like I should be grateful for whatever they give me. Then she passed me off to another gentleman who didn't care about hearing what my issue was he just wanted the plane to take off already. I felt very disrespected by all the Spirit employees once on the plane. Spirit in general is very shady because if I hadn't brought up the fact that I paid extra for my exit row they would have just let me pay the extra money for a normal seat."

The discounts for printing your own tickets and checking your bags ahead of time was not communicated prior to check in. It is on the website but not through the booking service. The self check in kiosk at check in would not work so we were upcharged for not using it but we couldn't."

I bought a ticket for my employee to fly to New Orleans and he showed up at the kiosk 40 minutes before the flight and was not able to get on so I had to pay $15 to reschedule for today and he showed up at the same time and still they said that their computers were down and they couldn't check anybody in and there's multiple people angry that they're boarding passes want working and so now we have to figure out how he can get to New Orleans and actually make it there. It'll be three days of not being able to get there because of spirits unethical and subpar customer service. I will never choose to fly Spirit again after this"

Cons: "Flight was delayed 40 minutes on a Sunday night. This was probably the most uncomfortable flight I have ever experienced. The seats are so poorly designed, they did not even recline a measly 1.5 inches, as other planes do, and halfway through the flight my back began to ache and I could not find a comfortable position for the rest of the flight. As a young, physically healthy person, I have flown 12 hrs from the US to Asia more comfortably than this."

Cons: "Paid $50 to check a computer they told me was too big for a carry-on. Computer was sent on a direct flight way before I was getting to my destination(instead of on my connection) and was left in an unattended area. They told me it was "most likely stolen" and asked why I didn't take it on the plane. Your gate agent told me it was too big!!!! This was the answer I got after 3 days of investigating myself. I was told various stories like "it got stuck at security" and "it never got on the plane" until I got home and went directly to the baggage office and asked them on my own. The kid that actually tagged it said his supervisor told him to send it direct. Sounds like they set things up to get stolen. I will be filing a complaint and claim."

Cons: "I was charged for carrying on my roll on bag because of its shape. While my brother on the same flight carried on an even larger backpack.But, it was considered a personal item. Also because we did not wish to pay even more to pick our seats, we were assigned the last row on the plane where the fuselage begins to taper towards the tail of a plane. Therefore it there was not nearly enough shoulder room for my brother and me. Overall the discomfort, lackadaisical staff, and shrewd penny-pinching policies insured that I will never fly Spirit Airlines again."
Pros: "Started off OK but then we quickly downhill flight was canceled due to fog in San Diego so I never made it onto the plane."
Cons: "Weather delay with fog in San Diego. Not Spirit's fault but they delayed for an hour and a half and then cancel the flight. As they canceled the flight they came around with cards with a number to call to rebook or change your itinerary. I called the number on the car rather than getting right in line at the desk. By the time I got through on the phone it would have been 10 to 15 minutes. They told me that since I was halfway through my return trip they couldn't do anything over the phone. So then I had to get in line and wait. I was the last person served. They offered me a flight to days later at the same time 9:45 PM that was unacceptable so I ask for something else and he somehow turned out they had a Houston Chicago San Diego flight that leaves tomorrow morning at seven. Very disappointed in the handling by the rebooking staff on the phone the gate agents were very friendly but very overworked and stressed. Service manager was there and he put me on a call back on the phone but that didn't help either. Not flying spirit again anytime soon."

When I checked it at the ticket counter it fit within their metal frame for measuring. When I got to the gate, they told me to step aside and check my bag. Without even looking at my bag, the lady at the counter told me it wouldn't fit and I had to pay extra. I told her it fit, and with an attitude, she asked me to put it in the frame to see if it fit. Suddenly, it did not. She said it didn't fit by over 2 inches. It was less than a 1/4 of an inch, and barely that. I was furious. She refused to care, refused to listen to me, and told me that it was either pay the $65 and board the plane or leave the bag there. Totally rude, and did this to SEVERAL OTHER PASSENGERS. HIGHLY DOUBT I'LL EVER FLY THIS AIRLINE AGAIN."
Pros: "I liked how my flight went smoothly, and that the price of the ticket even with the cost of my purchased carry on bag, was immensely cheaper than all the other flights for that day. If you go off of comfort, this may not be the flight for you, but if you base a good flight off of how affordable it is, then I would recommend Spirit Airlines."
Cons: "I didn't like how the seats were not very comfortable, and they did not recline, or have any head cushion that can bend for your head to rest on. Yes, it sucks that you have to pay for a carry on bag, but if you can put everything into a normal sized school backpack, then you can use that as your free personal item. And if you have more stuff, then you just have to plan ahead, and pay for your bag ahead of time, as it will cost more than double at the gate. NOTE that if you have a layover, you will have to pay for the bag twice. I think that was the worst thing out of the whole experience. Don't count on getting free food or drinks either. Just bring them with you on the plane."

Asked for assistance from agent, who told me gate was closed and wouldn't allow me through. I don't believe that the gate was closed 35 mins before departure, and I feel the agent could have made some effort to get me on the flight, especially after I told her I'm an oncologist and that I needed to be in New York to start seeing patients at 9am. Agents (Alexis and Leila) flatly refused, completely unsympathetic. Fortunately was able to get on next available flight on Delta, at cost of $450."

Plan ahead - you will not be able to use TSA Pre-Check, you will have to pay extra to carry on a bag (so buy your bag online at the airline's website before you go to the airport - this is the cheapest way to do it as they charge you more to purchase the carry-on at the check-in counter and even more if you wait until the boarding gate), and you will have to pay for all beverages including water and provide your own in-flight entertainment. If you plan ahead and know what you're getting into, flying Spirit can be a pleasant experience. The flight staff is friendly and polite."

Cons: "I won't bother telling you all the things you know about Spirit but that you think might be tolerable in exchange for cheap airfare: seats that don't recline, a charge for a carry-on bag, a charge to print a boarding pass, a charge for soda and snacks. All of that I'm used to, as is anyone who flies Spirit. You want basic amenities, fly Delta. You want cheap, fly Spirit. But something new and remarkably unwelcome happened on this flight: we arrived at the airport an hour before our 6am flight and were told when we tried to check in that we were too late and the flight was closed. I explained that we already had booked a flight--I wasn't asking to buy a new ticket. She said she understood, but we'd never clear security in time (there was no line) and that our bags probably wouldn't arrive at our destination because we were "so late." We had no bags. I said we needed to get home. They said, "You're supposed to be here 2 hours early." That rule is a bit like the speed limit--no one actually follows it to the T. There's a range of appropriate (say, less than 2 but more than 1 hour) and inappropriate (say, 15 minutes before your flight). When you're flying at 6am and you know there won't be a line, you don't really arrive that early. Anyway, they called a supervisor who said to let us board. And then there was a mechanical problem with this plane that was so intent on leaving ASAP that we weren't going to be allowed to board a full hour in advance. And the flight was an hour delayed, meaning I guess we really did arrive 2 hours in advance. Dump Spirit. It is never, ever worth it."
Cons: "The crew at the gate let a large family through... they were sneaking additional bags on the plane. Trying to have kids carry them and hiding them in strollers, etc. Instead of charging them for the bags they saw, which were all larger than the free item size crew still let them through. I counted eight bags and that made me very angry because so many people pay in advance and I packed extremely light to avoid additional charges and this family was rude and careless with no consequence. They did not pay the additional fee for any of the bags!"
Cons: "We had to wait on the tarmac for 30 minutes because the pilot needed to "fax" a document to get authorization to fly, then when we landed we had a delay getting out of the plane because the jet bridge had a mechanical issue and was unable to attach to the plane. I have never flew on an airline that had as many issues or that nickel and dimed its customers more."
Pros: "If I want to fly somewhere with just my laptop and no carry on and no luggage, this will be the way to go."
Cons: "After booking this flight with Spirit (2 flights out and 2 flights back, and I'm not going to rate each one separately) I was ready to log in an pay for baggage because I did not carefully examine all the details when booking. We did not get a free carry-on and the price for paying for luggage was higher than expected. BUT that was just the beginning. In every flight I've been on before, you pay for your bags one, I had to pay for the bags each step of the way. And paying for luggage and carry-ons each step of the way meant paying over $300 for bags. I'm used to paying $30 per person. So my excitement at getting low fares evaporated instantly. I was now paying the going rate for the flight with a lot of extra hassle to boot. I was with my aunt who needed a wheelchair to get around the airport in a wheelchair. Other airlines had them available for us to use, but Spirit would only offer to call a service for us. They did not indicate what the cost of this service would be. They didn't say it was free and they didn't say it was not. I just found an empty wheelchair and used that, after having just paid more than $300 for baggage for three small bags, I wasn't into more surprises. But I had to use American Airlines wheelchairs which they were cool with, because Spirit refused to let me use theirs without the escort (paid?) who actually didn't show up in the few minutes it took me to think it through."

Cons: "Spirit makes you pay for every single little thing and up charges you for the littlest thing as well. A cup of water on my flight was 3$. The low price of the ticket is pointless when you get charged three times more for booking, bags, checkin, carry on... WATER. I will fly delta next time and they will give me all that for FREE. The seats and plane itself were AWFUL. The seats were extremely uncomfortable and the tray table was smaller than my iPad mini. I am not sure when Spirit changed everything but they lost several customers from it. ,their low prices draw you in."
Pros: "Creating my own itinerary through a 3rd-party (Kayak) online reservation agent, I was unaware of the $52 add-on baggage fee. And when I tried to use the electronic kiosk to check in, it was not functioning properly. Although it not just Spirit Airlines, but I feel as though these additional fees aren't spelled out to the consumer well enough and therefore are somewhat disingenuous in their relationships with their customers."

Cons: "The chairs are low budget seats cushions are thin with and the leg room is limited which makes the ride very uncomfortable. I travel with various airlines and this was my 1st time traveling with spirit. This is by far my most uncomfortable plane ride with any airline. The cost for all beverages Is another concern. It is practically a potential health concern for a customer flying 2 hours or more to not have at least water provided for free. The credit card only for beverage payment also is a inconvenience for a small purchase that could easily be settle with cash. In closing, I feel this company is a prime example of producing poor service when the airline try to cut cost then capitalize on every single accommodation at the complete expense and inconvenience of the customers."

Cons: "I attempted to purchase luggage before each of my flights (departure and return) and the website would not allow it. I called the customer service number multiple times and it said they were experiencing technical difficulties. I was forced to purchase luggage allowance at the airport on both flights and was forced to pay a much larger amount that what I normally would have had to pay if the website was working. This excessive fee really makes the option of flying spirit less economical, frustrating, and really obliterates any reason to fly with your airline. Additionally, I was able to purchase seating before my flight- but on my return flight they put me in a seat that I did not pay for. The flight attendant did make a correction. Your staff at the main terminals is consistently extremely slow, unfortunately. I really like the flight attendants, they are always great. However, due to the above mentioned issues I have had recurrently, I will certainly be reluctant to purchase Spirit flights in the future"

They charge you for everything that your flight ends up becoming super expensive and its obscured until you get hit with the fee. First off, bag check in is ridiculously expensive. Cost me just about 100 dollars to check a tiny bag. The seats on the airline do not recline and there was absolutely zero leg room. Im not that tall (6'0), so there is no reason I should have to sit sideways on the seat because my knees are jammed into the seat in front of me. My entire neck and back became stiff when I got off the aircraft because of this. Water cost me 5 dollars. Do I need to say more? Water should be free. I left my long sleeve shirt in my bag that was already checked, so I asked a flight attendant if they had a tiny blanket ( It was so cold my jaw was shivering ) And she literally told me you should have brought one, we are not responsible for lending flyers blankets because its too cold.. Could not believe the awful experience I had with this airline. Never again. 1 star is generous."
Pros: "liked the cost. flight was good plane was clean but could have been a bit cleaner (windows) seats we good (could have been a little softer) I noticed that some of the flight crew were not as focused on their attention to the passengers. I did notice that the stewardess in our area (who sat right in front of me (exit seat )) was on her cell phone texting or playing a game or what ever young people do on their phones. as a travelling public person, my comfort level or expectation is that all the time I am on board, that the crew is on duty and focused on their duties, which should include, not being distracted by using personal electronic devises at anytime. Secondly, the uniforms that the attendants wore seemed to be a little less cared for or clean as other airlines. Lastly, (this may be picky,) but it seemed that the hair of a few of the attendants seemed unkempt at a level in keeping with the beautiful airplane we were in. There was a steward that came on the plane who looked light his shirt was too big (collar was too big for his neck) as was the size of his coat. As a business owner myself, I appreciate the small things, as these can be the things that overshadows all of the other things we do to provide a good product, service or experience for our customers. Personal inner Professionalism is a mindset that transcends and fuels ongoing service, at levels which a rule book alone cannot attain. Cons: "Make sure you realize that unlike literally every other airline, Spirit charges you $30 to bring a carry on if you pay in advance online, $55 if you end up paying at check in at the airport, and $100 if you do so at the gate. Carry on, not checked luggage. Every other airline will not charge you for it. If you want to pick your seat, or keep your family together on a flight, you have to pay extra, whereas every other airline, it's pretty much free. Because of this I was placed next to a 12 year old girl by herself in the very back row, thankfully the crew had enough sense to make sure to not let a grown stranger be in this position and moved me to a different seat, but had they allowed free seat choices, she could have sat next to her family and there would never be an issue. If you want a beverage on the flight and didn't pick up your own ahead of time, it will run you $3 while every other airline will give it to you as a complimentary service - meaning no charge. Their website touts that you're saving money on the flight cost by them charging these excessive fees, but I literally only saved $10 from the next highest flight price, ultimately running me $45 extra. Terrible business model."

The baggage claim was an hour wait and I spoke to someone who traveled to Vegas on spirit. They waited over 1 hour in Vegas and an hour when they returned home. So this must be the normal wait time. THE WEBSITE IS HORRIBLE and 800 client care w was not helpful."
Pros: "Earlier in the day I was having trouble checking in and tried to call Spirit for help. It took me a long time just to figure out how to get to a person to speak with and got the message that I might be charged to speak with someone. I hung up. I can't recall having to pay to speak to an employee at any other business. The flight was delayed. 4 hours. They told us it was because of a thunder storm, but later admitted it was a problem with a flight attendants seat. When I got a chance to order a drink I was told they no longer carry scotch. Your tickets may be cheaper, but the experience is not worth it."
