Flights from North America to Dallas: the best tips from KAYAK users

Insights shared by verified travelers who flew the route from North America to Dallas
WeiFlew with American Airlines-Jul 2026
consider UA as first option because they have more flights in that area, so in case one flight delay, you can change to another flight easily.
DennisFlew with American Airlines-Jul 2026
Get a port side window seat and get a great view of Mt. Hood.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Jun 2026
Plan ahead, arrive early, and be patient with the staff and crew.
Dawn CFlew with American Airlines-Jun 2026
Get to airport early and pack as light as you can!!
ArwaFlew with American Airlines-Jun 2026
My flight was delayed, so make sure to give yourself enough time in case of interruption
douglasFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2026
Dfw best airport... American is the best airline (most flights because they.are headquarterwd here. DFW also has the most choice in airport lounges. Also curbside check in. They also have a very convenient Tram service (Las Vegas has the best) Portland was very difficult to get to rental cars and baggage easily.
JoleneFlew with American Airlines-May 2026
It’s so convenient. I always check my carry on bag at the boarding desk. Saves me from having to schlep the suitcase through the connecting flight terminal
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-May 2026
Only bring small carry on it makes for an easy board
IanFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2026
Lately ORD airport struggles in general often having ground stops. Construction extends travel back to airport so allow 2 hrs. Over past few months, experienced far few delays on United than AA.
Verified travelerFlew with Qantas Airways-Mar 2026
We could not fly on our scheduled day because of delays leaving Cleveland. We would have missed our connection in Dallas. Might be better to have more layover time when you book.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2026
To not use hard sided bags. They can Crack when thrown from planes luggage compartment below to baggage carrier truck or vehicle
MayeFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2026
Allow more time between connections, I almost miss my flight as terminals in Dallas are far away from each other.
NancyFlew with American Airlines-Feb 2026
Golden rule.... arrive 2 to 2 1/2 earlier to have a calm experience.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Dec 2025
Make sure and have your work downloaded before getting on the plane in Anchorage, becuase Wifi will go out over eastern Alaska (but come back over Canada). If you are elite on Alaska, you will get a free bag or two on American.
Dawn CFlew with American Airlines-Dec 2025
Get to the airport early and be prepared to be flexible. Bozeman flights are often late getting started.
JoleneFlew with American Airlines-Dec 2025
If it is summer, book in the morning. The afternoon thunderstorms can delay take off.
DivyeshFlew with American Airlines-Feb 2026
Try to make sure you have 40 minutes of buffer with your connection.
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit Airlines-Nov 2025
bring your own water. not provided by Spirit arilines
FraxysFlew with American Airlines-Jun 2025
Bring an empty refillable water bottle/container through TSA and fill it up as soon as you pass the security check. The water station is available to the left and to the right of it.
Verified travelerFlew with Air Canada-Apr 2025
Keep an eye on your boarding gate and download the app. Boarding gates will change at the spur of the moment and the app makes things a lot easier and there is nice information on it.
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit Airlines-Apr 2025
LaGuardia has gotten so much better since the renovation. And its convenience to Manhattan is second to none. Terminal A had a super short security line too, which was nice
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-May 2025
Check out the barbecue shacks in the airport. I didn’t; regret that. They also have an in-terminal food delivery service. Maybe run by Uber Eats
FraxysFlew with American Airlines-May 2025
Grab breakfast at the airport or take it with you when you board for morning flight.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2025
DFW is a long train ride to your gate no matter what. Plan the extra time to navigate the distance between gates.
MarcusFlew with American Airlines-May 2025
As long as you show up before boarding begins, you should still be fine to check in a bag for the flight.
KalebFlew with Spirit Airlines-May 2025
Get to the airport early and read about what you can or can’t bring. Don’t be greedy on the bag situation.
KaoriFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2025
Be aware of the gate number and the time required to reach it, as the airport is vast.
MatthewFlew with American Airlines-Dec 2024
Be ready for delays and study the airport map. The Sky Link is a little different if it is your first time using it. Thankfully, I had someone there the first time I flew through DFW that knew the system.
JavierFlew with Frontier-Feb 2025
Love DFW, fast to move between terminals and they have a Capital One Lounge
ShaneFlew with Spirit Airlines-Dec 2024
Know what events are happening in the city traveling too, too many major events in one area causes major delays at TSA checkpoints.
Dr. JosephFlew with American Airlines-Jan 2025
Be very vigilant about the weather both in Chicago and in Dallas. Adverse weather in either area can affect the trip.
Verified travelerFlew with Qantas Airways-Feb 2025
If flying american airlines make sure you have more than 3 hours for layover
MitchellFlew with American Airlines-Dec 2024
If you choose main extra, avoid row 10 or higher.
Odessa DelainaFlew with American Airlines-Dec 2024
Do not arrive more than 1 1/2 hours before departure. There wasn’t anyone to accept baggage and no seating available.
MaryFlew with American Airlines-Sep 2024
Bring a charging cable for your devices and I always wear compression stocking on flights that are 2 hours or more long.
SundereshFlew with American Airlines-Sep 2024
Check standby options on earlier flights. There are many between the two destinations.
CoryFlew with American Airlines-Nov 2024
they're all about some out of baltimore. DFW is an AA HUB and likely your cheapest option as a connection. If your final destination is dallas, southwest might be cheaper.
DeandriaFlew with American Airlines-Oct 2024
Bring a blanket and a charger/ something that will provide you entertainment. WiFi provided on flight for extra charge.
Verified travelerFlew with Frontier-Oct 2024
Get there extra early when you fly frontier and make sure your personal bag isn’t oversized!
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Oct 2024
Long train ride in Dallas to gates, but pretty easy to navigate, no real issues
DeeFlew with Alaska Airlines-Sep 2024
Arrive early as repairs and construction underway at Seatac.
RoxanneFlew with American Airlines-Oct 2024
Get to airport early, as they only have two entrances into terminal!! Waiting line long. After checked by TSA, they were very slow moving people along though scanner. I hate going to MSP. It use to be a good airport, but sucks now!!
kabirFlew with American Airlines-Aug 2024
Red eye flights can be a full flight. If possible, upgrade your seat. Stay away from sitting by flight attendant
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jun 2024
If you like your feet warm, avoid wearing sandles. Cool air blew across my feet for almost four (4) hours.
JulianneFlew with Iberia-Aug 2024
Best to check bags and not bring anything aboard flight. There was no storage available.
DavidFlew with American Airlines-Jun 2024
Always arrive early. The Traffic is bad ALL 7 days and Friday is the worst.
Verified travelerFlew with Qantas Airways-Jul 2024
Allow extra time to navigate through the airport as it’s a big one.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jul 2024
Arrive early. Busy airport and rental car return is far from Airport
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jun 2024
Bring snacks, water, and a change of clothes.
SoniaFlew with American Airlines-Aug 2024
Get to airport at le as t 3 hours early if you have a 6 am flight. With construction it is insane if you have to check in luggage and get thru tsa
BryanFlew with American Airlines-Aug 2024
Don't count on wheelchair assistance, particularly if you have a short connection and different terminals. DFW is HUGE and the assistance program is a disaster.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2024
The people mover in DFW is really fast. It can get you to your gate faster than you can run, for sure!
JoelFlew with American Airlines-May 2024
No need to come all early to Dayton since it's a tiny airport, no crowds and easy to access
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2024
Airport in Pvr is so crowded always. Lounge access is the way to go!
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2024
When boarding, stand close to the gate. Sometimes they don’t use the microphone to call boarding groups.
Brian R.Flew with Frontier-May 2024
Bring money. If you're in a tight spot with money, bring your own snacks.
JanFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2024
Get to airport early. Security takes awhile in PV
AnnFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2024
I would not choose to connect through DFW if I could avoid it. Every thing was very inconvenient; Restaurants close early on Sunday, help with rebooking was on a different floor and required a shuttle ride, the elevators and some escalators were that provided access to ground transport were out of service. It was a mess. However, the associates were pleasant at the gate, 7/11 stoe, customer service, cleaning crew, and ground transport.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2024
dont use american airlines if possible. if you have to make sure that your layover(if youre flying through) is at least 1.5 to 2 hours…
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Apr 2024
If you have a conection have over 2 hours of lay over in dallas because it will bebdelayd
MarkFlew with American Airlines-Jan 2024
Get TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry which includes TSA Pre-Check. In Terminal 3, there really isn't any place to set up a laptop outside one of the restaurants.
AndreaFlew with American Airlines-Jan 2024
Aeromexico has more space in economy, better in-flight service, and better in-flight entertainment. They do not fly to Dallas on their way to Guadalajara however, and flights are often delayed. Recommendation would be to give yourself plenty of time between connecting flights.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-Jan 2024
Always allow at least 90 minutes for connections in Dallas. Flights seem to be late often and it’s a big airport to navigate.
CedricFlew with American Airlines-Jan 2024
American Airlines did well. Center seat is tight on planes, opt for window or aisle.
SharonFlew with British Airways-Jan 2024
Wish I d have known my luggage did not make it into my connecting flight! Pack a backpack just in case!

SW can't get their wifi right. I upgrade to insure wifi service but the last two trips had intermittent service. Not worth the extra costs.

Southwest is kind of a slum airline. It’s gotten more expensive over the years for less and less service. I am a Southwest Chase Visa card holder and was forced to choose a seat in the 26th row in the middle seat. However my wife who is a rewards member but doesn’t hold a card or anything else, gets randomly assigned a normally paid seat in row 6! How does that work?

The seat was not comfortable. 1D. My back was sore all night and the next day.

The new seating arrangement is so over priced for what you get.

An entire day of delays. Cost lots of money. Meals and a hotel.

Only downside was the legroom and seat width, which is always a problem unless I spend more for a premium seat.

Great flight but super high price. Glad it was a business trip and not personal

No delays and arrived to destination 30 min early. Staff was super friendly.

Everything a cheap airline should be at normal airline rates.

I was re-booked onto another flight because my original flight was delayed and I would have missed my connector. I ended up in the “C” group after paying extra to be in the “A “ group on the original flight. At least if you’re going to re-book people, re-book them into the same group.

Long story short, it was one of the better flight experiences I've had in some time when compared with other airlines.

Smaller plane for a longer flight than my first one. Doesn’t make sense.

Delta flights recently are always delayed AND at jfk tney get the gates further away (need To walk 20’ to get to them/all the way at the end of the terminal). Not sure whats happening but price doesnt match experience!

Only freetext wifi was available in flight; browsing WiFi required payment. Since the seats had no in flight entertainment, Delta should revisit this policy on this longer flight.

The entertainment screens were not working and there was no air condition the entire flight. Very uncomfortable.

Luggage delayed and 6 days later I still don't have it.

In thirty years of traveling, mostly with Delta, this was the worst day ever.

Traveling with delta is always a pleasure from the take off to the landing 🛬 🥰

Seats not assigned during check-in and got last non-reclining seats next to rest room :-(

Good breakfast granola bar good crew seamless flight and baggage transfer we’ll done!

Flight was 2.5 late. Maybe not United’s fault but late none the less. We were late as well on the first leg. WiFi quit working with an hour left.

Very stressful to locate United Airline boarding area, delayed flight, changing boarding area again to another location with all tiredness 😩. But flying was fine.

Flight staff and all was fine. Food always sucks on planes so nothing new.

Wonderful flight! The crew was good, check-in was good and orderly and the flight was uneventful and good.

The international portion was good. Food and beverage options were good. The sustainable wooden eatery was less than desirable. Your Star Alliance partner ANA provided real silverware. I'm 6'3" & 198 lbs and felt cramped in the exit row. How can that be? Flight attendant all had a pleasant disposition which is always good.

This planes staff was top tier. Everything went great and had a great flight home.

Fantastic. Smooth boarding with an infant. Never experienced it with any other carriers.

Apparently the WiFi you buy on on one flight doesn't carry on with connecting flights.

This was for the LOS to FRA leg of the flight Checking in and boarding was not good The staff at the gate were not helpful and targeted the customer and delayed the customers boarding unnecessarily The flight was delayed for about two hours and later for a change of boarding gate The waiting area was overcrowded with no seats available for passengers and lots were left standing for a long period of time

Sitting in row 31, you could smell the bathroom during the entire flight. It was pretty disgusting.

Flying on this airline is nothing short of a full blown circus clown show. On a recent return from my mother’s funeral, my only available choice from IND to PWM was American, which I hesitantly booked as I rarely fly them for many of the following reasons and never will again. I was booked IND-PHL-PWM totaling about six hours. The flight was cancelled due to NE weather. They rebooked me on a two stop flight IND-DFW (Yes DALLAS)-PHL-PWM, still all on the same day. After arriving in DFW, they continually delayed the DFW-PHL flight due to maintenance issues on the arriving flight. Finally it was delayed to the point that my PHL-PWM connection was no longer possible. They then rebooked me thru LGA with the short flight the NEXT DAY to PWM and offered to put me up for the night in NYC (or so I assumed). The flight DFW-LGA was then delayed so much that I asked to be put in an earlier flight with a lessor delay. Throughout this day chats with their AI assistant were useless as were subsequent chats supposedly with a real person(?). Only one customer service agent in DFW was actually helpful and appeared to care. Upon arrival at LGA post midnight, they issued me car and hotel vouchers in Trenton NEW JERSEY at a very old Howard Johnsons ONE HALF HOUR from LGA. The hotel was an $85, 1.5 rated hotel in a very sketchy area of NJ that I would have never voluntarily booked. As I prepared to catch the car back to LGA the next morning I received a text that my flight was cancelled. TWICE IN TWO DAYS. I went to LGA hoping to have AA book me on an earlier Delta flight. The full service line was at least 200 people deep, so I tried to reach a real person agent by phone. After 1/2 hours on hold I gave up and waited for my later LGA-PWM flight. It actually started boarding on-time, but only shortly after announced a maintenance hold. We were told it was nothing serious, just an adjustment to the Captains seat. Only one update was given while we waited 1.5+ hours for a “SEAT ADJUSTMENT”. Can’t forget to mention that on all of these planes the WiFi only worked on two. During that time at least three others flights in my area announced that they were overbooked and were taking volunteers before bumping people. Another flight to ORD announced a gate change and less than five minutes after announced that they were really not changing and announced for everyone to return to that gate. Can’t forget to mention that on all of these planes the WiFi only worked on two.🤡🤡

Smooth flight, on time, got to DFW early, crew was great, I was on row 11 so lots of room. Snacks were OK. We were pleased.

Flying on this airline is nothing short of a full blown circus clown show. It is so mismanaged it should not be in business as there is no way it can be safe as badly as it is managed. It is 100% about money and customers be damned. On a recent return from my mother’s funeral, my only available choice from IND to PWM was American, which I hesitantly booked as I rarely fly them for many of the following reasons and never will again. The seats we paid a lot extra for so we could sit together were horrible. The flight attendant even mentioned this to my wife after she was hit multiple times by the cart. She said something like this, “this is the worst seat on the plane and I know you paid extra for it. Sorry.” The entertainment screen needed to be held while using, the food tray was not useful for the meals they served, and constantly being bumped into by passengers and crew. I offered to switch with my wife multiple times, but since I am so much taller, my knee would have been a much easier target.

American notified via app that the flight was delayed. However, when I went to the gate, they were already boarding and had not updated communications that they had pulled the flight time back. They made the entire flight re-check in which by this time I had lost my exit row seat and ended up in a middle seat. As a 4 decade flyer of American and Exec Plat, my expectations for the company are that the customer service would be better. This unfortunately is no longer a strong point for any of the major airlines including American. They are basically city buses flying at 30 thousand feet.

The power outlets were not working for my row. Also felt like the seats have gotten smaller. I was in the window seat and felt like suffocated, as the two passengers next to me were tall and wide.

No service on New Orleans to DFW or DFW to San Antonio. Also no explanation from the captain why we had no AC. Unacceptable!

They lost my bag on both the going and return flight of my round-trip.

Nice ! I am gold member at United Airlnes probably I will shift at American Airlines and JAL ! Thank you ! Kindly maintain quality service I fly often! ❤️

Flight attendant made the flight very enjoyable. He was courteous and gave great care to the passengers

baggage clamed had to wait over a hour and half for all people on my flight it was terrible

The confirmation # CK8GNW and my name was not recognized/in Frontier system. I was able to check in on Frintier app so i went to the Frontier ticket agent, at time they told me that my name/ confirmation did not show up as a purchased ticket. I had to purchase a new ticket that cost $289.00 one way.

Worst airline experience. They were rude and kept changing our seats and/or giving our seats away so our family didn’t get to sit with each other. Almost everyone we dealt with at both airports with this airline was rude. The app kept giving us wrong information making things take longer. Dealing with them before TSA can take close to an hour…longer than I’ve ever had to deal with before. Never using this airline again.

It was a short flight so no food or entertainment….

Frontier had yet another flight cancellation. Have never made a complete round trip with this airline without at least one leg getting cancelled. Miserable flights - dirty, uncomfortable planes that apparently always have issues since I've had multiple delays and cancellations with them.

They changed the timing , first delayed by 4 hours then went back to 40 mins late, we had to run back to airport to not miss our flight. This is ridiculous

Early arrival. Great landing. Pilot updates. Too cold in plane.

My experience with the phoenix airport was terrible, the personnel lay the ticket counter charged me for a carry on that fit in the carry on size box, and the two women I spoke with were terribly rude and not willing to help.,,, there was one lady “candy” on the flight crew that was amazing and is the only reason I stayed on the flight at all, because the other stewards helping people to get seated on the plane were terrible

Overall experience good. There was no food and seats were not terribly comfortable.

My first flight was moved 6 hours causing me to miss my meeting. The second was delayed about an hour and a half. Most of the crews apparently dont like their jobs or just working for Frontier. Only one flight attendant wasn"t snappy or rude.
