Have your passport ready; it’s requested multiple times! The Rome airport is enormous- not easy to get help answering questions on where to go and how to get to security and gate for boarding. AerLingus at Rome airport is actually on offsite part of terminal. We walked forever to get to our gate “E” then we were put on a bus to shuttle us to where the plane was. Again, more walking- if you have a lot of carry on with you or can’t walk so far it’s a challenge. They need to advise trailers at check in to get to their gate Early to allow for all the extra walking and shuttle time needed.

If you are traveling with a pet, patience is highly recommended. The airport staff appeared to be unfamiliar with the documentation and procedures required for passengers traveling with an in-cabin animal, resulting in multiple calls to colleagues and supervisors for clarification on the necessary paperwork. While the staff was ultimately helpful, better training and clearer guidance on pet travel requirements would make the process much smoother and more efficient for passengers.

Get to Rome airport a bit early. The lines for passport control can be long if you have a US passport. The signage can be confusing, but once you figure it out it is easy. Staff at Rome airport are very good and the lines were not bad there. Just security and passport control.
