I would say that for international flights, be prepared for a possibly very long walk to your gate after security check. Also, there is an agricultural check for leaving the islands that you have to queue up for before you even get inside the airport. So that is another delay to prepare for. Otherwise, it’s a typical flight, just leave yourself some extra time for these added steps.

Don’t fly through LAX. It is a rundown airport and we had to park at a remote area and the bussed to the main terminal. This added 20 minutes to our transfer time.

We have been flying in and out of Haneda the last few trips. We decided to go to Narita this time. I'm glad we did. It was less crowded and relatively easy to navigate for us. We were able to catch a bus to the North to Tochigi prefecture without much trouble. If you are coming from another country, You must fill out the immigration forms beforehand. There is a table set aside for that. Immigrations goes quick. They do facial recognition and finger prints and stamp your passport. Then you get your bags. Fairly seamless.

LAX on Christmas Eve around 9am was a breeze. No passengers were in line to print bag tags, bag drop, or security. Made it through from entry to the concourse (for American Airlines) in under 12 minutes. Boarding process at gate 159 used turnstiles, which I prefer.

I wish it was clearer about carry-on baggage rules for Basic Economy (international). The app said "No carry on bags allowed" but actually it was Narita-LAX-Narita so carry on was OK. It caused some problems deciding how to pack. Maybe have a video at the gate while people are waiting about the QR-code customs declaration and transport options? (I don't need these personally, I've lived in Japan for 20 years)

Check your operating carrier. It seems like ANA is operated by United, so you would essentially be paying for United Airlines service (supposedly 3 stars) as opposed to the 5 star ANA service.

For that long of a flight, spend the extra money for more leg room if you can afford it and don't waste you money or miles on United's wifi. Shout out to United's new check in/baggage procedure in Denver... It took a minute to navigate it but once I did... I wish all airlines would do similar.. it was fast and easy!!!

Do not take an aisle seat on Boeing aircraft. The carts are to wide for the aisles and so are many of the crew. You will be bumped by one or the other throughout the flight. Poorly designed aircraft.

If you are connecting to a domestic flight in Japan allow at least 2-3 hours between flights. Immigration at Haneda is very slow . They are now fingerprinting and photographing all international passengers. Doesn’t help if you used the Japan website for preclearance or not, same line either way.

Make sure if you have any type of food allergies you let them know ahead of time instead of during your flight. The airline will do their best to accommodate your allergies and they take them very seriously. Economy wasn’t to bad on the way there I would recommend sitting in and exit row if you’re looking for leg room and it also helps to be close to the bathrooms.

If you can fly JAL direct from San Diego to Tokyo, I would do it. The time you save with no layover or dealing with an unfamiliar airport more than makes up the difference in price. Once you fly direct, you'll understand!

Reserve seats in advance. This is an air ticket worth paying for, even if the price is slightly higher. The standard is consistent. Do book your layover accommodation in advance. I booked upin arrival and only got a more expensive option. Otherwise, I enjoyed very much flying with ANA and will choose it again.

Suite lounge in Honolulu is the best lounge in Honolulu. I love the huge bathrooms in ANA first Class on the A380 Honu plane. Japanese meal was outstanding and service was amazing. Everything was just excellent. Can’t wait to fly again

The bed / seat was very hard , not at all comfortable for an 11 hr flight .. food was strange , never have I eaten roast chicken and mash potatoes for breakfast!! Very odd

Their was $200 charge for 2nd luggage, airplane very new and flight smooth. Flight time seem faster then Asian stoping Korea then china.

Delays, plane transfer due to malfunction, no entertainment, limited beverage service.

Seat was broken. Check in was not possible until we reached the gate, by then we were separated.

The food was not great; but I don’t expect much from airline food. However, the staff was incredible! I had gotten to the gate when I realized I had left my computer at the security checkpoint! I told a staff member and she said, “well, you will miss this flight if you go back to get it” It was a long way from the gate. I asked if I might get on the next flight. She sent for another staff member, and he took me to the gate desk. He found an open seat, and said,”okay, go run to get your computer, I will get you a new boarding pass.” I rran back, retrieved my computer, and returned to the gate. It was closed, but I found the gate nearby where the next ANA flight was leaving. Another staff member was ready for me, and printed me a new pass, and even made sure I still had an aisle seat that I requested! I got in line and continued my trip. These people are amazing, helpful, and friendly. My trip could have been ruined, or postponed at a great expense, but they saved the day! 5 stars!!!!

Best service! Food was Japanese fine dining and they even sang happy birthday to me since it was my birthday halfway through the flight. Bed was comfortable and cabin was quiet.

I originally thought I was booking with ANA airlines and didn't see "operated by United" until the day of. I even thought the United check-in update was a scam so ended up checking in 3 hours before the flight, causing separate seating and uncomfortable middle seats.

Very disappointing. Our flight was delayed for almost 6 hours with the lost time disrupting our travel plans. United should have known that any delay (approximately and hour) triggered a no-fly/work because according to the FAA they had to many flight hours. After the mechanical delay (approximately an hour) we had to wait for a fresh crew change. Seems to me that United could have anticipated this incident. Again, a very disappointing travel experience.

The flight was delightful overall. The check-in and boarding were on smooth and on time. Amenities and staffs were elevated. However, if glasses were served instead of cups, there should be a complete premium.

Sure I would’ve liked a little more space, but it was better than economy. I bring my own food because I have food allergies it would be nice if they offered larger salads or more vegetables instead of starch it was really a good flight. I don’t wanna complain. I enjoyed flying on Japan Airline. However, my flight from Osaka to Tokyo did not give us enough time to make my connecting flight. We missed our next flight due to the following: We were seated on row 24 which causes us to get off of plane late, having to go to the restroom, having to exit the airport and take a shuttle-bus from terminal one to terminal three, having to go through security and immigration. We were disappointed that we had to catch another flight

Flight crews are very attentive and polite. Cabin and toilets are clean. Food is above average for economy class. We missed our connecting flights because the first flight was delayed, the ground crews at Tokyo were very helpful, providing all the information and support (including cash for our train ticket) to get us to our destination. Very impressive. No wonder they are always at the top ten lists.

Crew hospitality was as expected of a Japanese carrier, however the foods were lacking. The dinner options provided all contained pork and the breakfast was lacking in both quality and volume. I was starving throughout the trip.

Excellent! So happy that the crew members were so helpful and friendly and able to understandably communicate. They’re very receptive with someone like me, with disability. I love that I did not even have to ask for luggage help like, having to place and take down my carry-on luggage in and out of the over-head compartment. Hope, help is extended to disabled passenger(s) through out class classifications they’ve bought; economy or business class it might be. As a disabled person myself, I’m truly of great appreciation of this kind of help. Means a lot !!! Thank you so very much JAL crew. You out done others on this customer service part of the trip. Please continue to do so. From now on, I’ll choose JAL as my airline whenever I have to fly to any southeast asian countries. American Airlines food is horrible. Also, paid to fly JAL on all segments, but received a much lower quality. I was disappointed to learn that we would be using American Airlines on this flight, which has less comfort, entertainment, choices, and lower standard of service. Overall not satisfied.

Food was very mediocre. Economy is pretty uncomfortable. Crew was excellent and responsive.

Not as good as I expected, I couldn't use the screen to watch movies or anything else because it wasn't 'STEADY' AT ALL, it moved every single time that the passenger who sat on that seat moved, that caused me fell dizzy and nauseous when I tried to use it, so I ended up with only sleeping and eating with no entertainment all my haul flight on premium economy seat, plus the passenger who sat next to me, she just loved to spread her very long hair down on my shoulder, face, arm, sometimes her hair just whacked my face till I really wanted to offer her my hairband!, super annoying 😑 and that my bad experience with that flight.

My plans changed and I tried to cancel or change the flight for credit but was giving the run around and denied . Not great

We purchase first class seats for the first time for multiples of standard economy ticket. There was no access to the club lounge and no priority boarding. The meal and the service once on the plane were superior and the seat was nicer, but not worth the price difference. I will be happy to seat in economy and spend the difference on more travel.

The business class seat is exceptional. I wish the food is more palatable.

the entire flight felt off. The crew seemed uninterested and disengaged. The food service was really bad - overcooked, bland, weird food service. They actually woke us up to serve chicken wraps in the middle of the night, after dinner and before breakfast. Made no sense. Ultimately, I was glad they did though, because the breakfast had been held for so long it was inedible. Eggs, potatoes, sausage - all disgusting. We were asked to "honor" the lavatories for premium customers and stay in our own cabin: this was also strange. So people in economy didn't pay enough to use the closest toilet to them??? It's a toilet. All in all, not the experience I have come to expect from United Airlines. The return flight from Paris to SFO was better, btw.

Smooth and easy boarding, comfortable for the entire 5 hour flight, and the seat back entertainment was great! I appreciated all the features, from location info and maps, movies, the ability to connect with Bluetooth headphones, and good selection of movies. They promise free wi-fi prior to boarding and then once on board you are informed you have to purchase wifi even after being a mileagePlus member.

I've been flying American mostly, and it's been very frustrating. This united flight makes me realize maybe the issue isn't flying, but the airline. United was a significantly better experience. The plane was more comfortable, with a normal amount of leg room (vs the ridiculous reductions AA has made), more comfortable seats, screens to watch movies. It was a much better experience!

Wifi never really worked. Flight attendants were generally fine except when they were not very helpful when my wife accidentally spilled a soda (they chastised her to apologize to the people sitting behind when it was dark and we couldn't see anything and they brought one tiny napkin to help clean it up). Couple of the crew members were really nice and the rest are really rude and didn't help when we needed help, food was not worth it at all and most importantly there's no even entertainment system other than a very interruptive and slow internet and some movies.

I appreciate the economy price of the tickets. The long flight made the comfort level on the lower average side. Wi-Fi connection was not consistent but working. Overall, I would fly again with zip air but next time get the flat, premium seats with the amount of money I would save otherwise.

The most uncomfortable flight I’ve ever been on. I’m only 5,4” and barely had enough room to exist, couldn’t even fully relax my shoulders. Not sure why they bother with snacks. Half a coke and a single cookie?? Wow. Purchasable food looked gross too. Remember when airlines used to treat you like a human being?

Departed Palm Springs over an hour late because there’s only one gate, and it has always delayed by the arriving and departing flight to Toronto and the arriving flight from Vancouver.

I checked a bag and there was only one agent to assist all customers with any issues.

Flight was canceled due to mechanical issues. After a considerable wait in the queue, Air Canada customer service was very helpful to get us on another flight. I am disappointed to report our rescheduled flight is for three days from now. Three days of extra expenses and inconvenience is unacceptable.

Extremely disappointing. My original Denver–Vancouver–Bangkok itinerary was cancelled due to a crewing issue. I was not proactively supported and had to drive back home after already reaching the airport. Communication was poor throughout, and attempts to contact customer service resulted in being on hold for nearly three hours without reaching anyone. Instead of being rebooked on the same direct routing the following day, I was rerouted onto a much longer itinerary via multiple cities and airlines, which resulted in arriving approximately 30 hours later than scheduled. At Denver airport, there was no visible Air Canada representative available to properly assist. Ground staff offered no real support beyond directing passengers to a phone number. There was no clear communication, no ownership, and no meaningful customer care during a major disruption. The final journey involved three flights instead of the original two, significantly increasing travel time and stress. Overall, the handling of the cancellation and lack of customer support was unacceptable. What could have been better? Great setup on both flights except the last flight we got condensed dripping all over me in the last 20 mins of the flight

Everything went smoothly — on-time departure and very organized boarding. We pre-ordered vegan meals, which were fine but not especially memorable. We may have had slightly higher expectations given it was a Japanese airline. It felt like a dinner meal than a breakfast. Overall, it was a good flight experience and we would recommend it.
