The condo is ideal for two adults (one full size bed) and a small child (fold up cot in the unit); however, the unit can accommodate up to four (4) adults as there is a pull out sleeper sofa with an air mattress/memory foam pad that is comfortable to sleep on. Children are welcome to my home (I have a wonderful grandson) but please note my home is not baby/child proof regarding outlet covers/cleaning supplies in the cabinets, etc. so if you have small children, please make sure to take this information into account. Please no pets and no smoking in the unit or outside as the odor seems to find a way into the building. This condo, named Maplewood, is located at Holiday Beech Villas and the building was just renovated in 2016. There is parking in front of the building. If you arrive after dark, there are no street lights in the parking lot area, so it is a good idea to have a flashlight or flashlight app to help guide where you are walking while unloading your vehicle. The stairs and walkway to the unit are illuminated once you get to the front of the building. The condo has a fully equipped kitchen with all cookware, dishes, etc. if you choose to prepare meals at home. I also have a full-size dishwasher, automatic coffeemaker and a built-in wine refrigerator. If you choose to not cook, you are a few minutes walk to two nearby bars/restaurants; the Mile High Tavern (open seasonally) and Famous Fast Eddie's (open year round) There are many close-by restaurants in Beech Mountain just a few miles away; Vasarely's (they have awesome homemade desserts), Brick-Oven Pizzeria, Bullwinkle's, etc. This condo is your home away from home with comfortable furnishings that include an electric fireplace and TVs in the living room and Bedroom with Directv Satellite Service. There is access to the rear balcony from the living room and bedroom. My condo building is next door to the Holiday Beech Villas' Clubhouse which has entertaining space, TV, and two commercial Maytag washers/dryers for your use. ($1.00 each - quarters only) * Please note there is FREE WiFi at the Clubhouse and you will be provided the access code to the clubhouse when condo is booked. The complex is at the bottom of Beech Mountain Resort and within a 10 minute walk up the hill to the resort where you will find the Resort Village. Here you have access to all the winter activities (fire pit, ice skating, brewery, tubing, etc.) and lifts to the top of the slopes where the 5506' Skybar is located. The lifts also operate in the summer months and check the Beech Mountain Resort website for live music at the 5506' Skybar. I look forward to being your host at Maplewood, my mountain home, and I am accessible by phone if you should need anything. Guest Access You will have access to the entire condo with about 600 SF of living space. Interaction with Guests I will not be on-site during your stay, but am accessible by phone. The cell phone service is 'spotty' on the mountain and in the condo. I have found that text messages will go through sometimes when a call will not. There is a landline phone for emergency use only (911) as there is no long distance service. If you need to reach me, try calling my provided cell number and/or text message me and I can call you back on the landline (if you are in the unit). The Neighborhood This condo is just a few miles from the town of Beech Mountain-Eastern America's highest town. It is beautiful here during all four seasons and there is a lot to do or you can simply choose to enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains. TRANSPORTATION - Your car will be your major form of transportation. For all practical purposes, there is little or no public transportation in the area. The ski resort may provides a free shuttle to the ski area on most days that the ski area is open, but you can walk to the resort from my place. You will not need snow chains all the time, or most of the time, but when you need them, you need them. If you have some chains at home, bring them along. If not, you can get them at Fred's Mercantile on Beech Mountain or possibly the Banner Elk Exxon. Four-wheel-drive is the best thing to have. Front wheel drive is better than rear wheel drive, but not much better. Check your battery - old batteries die quickly in very cold weather. Also, please be aware THERE IS NO GASOLINE ON BEECH MOUNTAIN - only in Banner Elk. And the only grocery-type store is Fred's General Mercantile. The heat is electric and the winters are cold so please make sure you do not turn the heat down past 50 degrees if your stay is in the winter months. (and make sure to keep the sofa 8-10 inches from the baseboard heating unit during the winter months) The complex has not yet replaced the trash dumpsters so you must bag your trash and dispose of it at the city facility directly across from Fred's Mercantile. (This is 1.8 miles from the condo and there is a fence with large painted quilt-like squares and the dumpsters are behind the fence). (The cleaning service does not dispose of trash so please make sure you understand these instructions) WEATHER - During ski season the usual temperature ranges are a low of zero to +10 degrees at night up to +30 to +40 in the daytime. On the other hand, we can have low temperatures of -20 and high temperatures in the 50's or 60's. DO NOT ASSUME anything about the weather here. The weather can change drastically in a matter of hours. The website for Ray's Weather (Beech Mountain, NC / Avery County) is an accurate source. Or check the website for Fred's General Mercantile.
