KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Coral Springs
Car rentals in Coral Springs will give you greater access to "everything under the sun," as the city’s motto claims. If you are planning to relax at one of the many beaches near Coral Springs, packing your belongings in a personal vehicle will allow you to bring all the essentials for an enjoyable day in the sand. Should you wish to visit nearby Miami and experience the famous nightlife and party atmosphere, Coral Springs rental cars will typically get you there in less than an hour, while public transit can take around 3h.
The nearest major airport is Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, which offers car rentals in Coral Springs through the Rental Car Center next to Terminal 1. If you are flying into Terminal 1, you can access the Rental Car Center by walking across the Concourse B pedestrian bridge to the security checkpoint. Travelers who are flying into Terminals 2, 3 or 4 can access the Rental Car Center via the free shuttle, which leaves from pickup zones outside each baggage claim area.
Pedestrians have the right of way in Coral Springs and nearby Miami, so be sure to drive with diligence and watch out for people crossing the street at designated crosswalks. Bicycles are also considered vehicles in the state of Florida, so you will need to give them sufficient space when sharing the roads and allow them to merge if necessary. Do your best to stay within the flow of traffic, as you can actually get a ticket in Florida for driving too slow.
The most common weather pattern in Coral Springs is rain, with an average of more than 60 inches per year and reaching over 7 inches per month in the spring and summer months. If you are not familiar with driving in rainy weather, exercise caution and drive at a safe speed with your headlights on. Hurricane season lasts from June to November, with flooding common throughout the city. Check the weather forecast and use caution if you need to travel during heavy rainstorms, and avoid standing water.
Many of Florida’s major roads and interstates have tolls, such as the Express Lanes on I-75, just south of Coral Springs. Since TOLL-BY-PLATE is not an option for cheap car rentals in Coral Springs or any rental cars, a virtually universally accepted SunPass is the way to go. You can purchase a SunPass at hundreds of retail locations in and around Coral Springs, such as CVS and Walgreens. Activate an account, attach it to the windshield, prepay, and then go.
Coral Springs car rentals secured through KAYAK allow you to go to Miami, Palm Springs, Disneyland, or even right across the state on I-75 to Naples and Sarasota. If you are traveling with anyone else, you will most likely be able to take advantage of Florida’s freeway carpool lanes. In Florida, you need only two people in the car (one can be a child) to access the HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lane. If you are on your own, you, too, can use the HOV lane, during non-peak hours: HOV lanes in Florida are restricted to Carpools only between 7 am – 9 am and 4 pm – 6 pm, Monday thru Friday.
Cheap car rentals in Coral Springs are ideal, but be cautious and cognizant of bicycle traffic. The city of Coral Springs encourages bicycle traffic with bike lanes along some of its busiest roads, including Wiles Road, Riverside Drive, and University Drive. Furthermore, the city of Coral Springs is adding more bicycle lanes all the time. Since you will be driving a Coral Springs car rental and you may likely be driving on unfamiliar streets, it is even more important to watch out for the ever-present cyclists in Coral Springs.

Convertible
Easily the worst experience of my car renting life. I pay for a convertible (or something similar) over a month before I arrived. I get there and - surprise surprise - there are no convertibles. The “something similar” in offered is a Jeep Cherokee or Chevy Equinox. Oh! And the price difference between a convertible (which I paid for) and the Jeep (which I received) was given to me in a voucher which expires in a year - which I’d never, ever use. I also heard this quote from the guy working at the desk to me and two other customers… “Yeah sorry. We have way more reservations than we do cars.” Guess they don’t know what a reservation means. Rent from these guys if you want a nightmarish headache.
