I recommend a smaller car in Malaga. The roads are tight and narrow and parking can be challenging. The smallest car you need to get by is the best option. That said, people in Malaga are great drivers, and despite renting a long and expensive car, we came out without a scatch.

Was severely disappointed that the drop off location tried to steal my deposit. Had to file an online complaint to have my deposit returned. Especially painful after purchasing the increased insurance policy in an attempt to avoid this exact situation. Pickup location, while super friendly, didn't have car ready on time, and gave me a car with less than 1/2 a tank of gas. Would have overlooked that, if not for the drop off location trying to scam me. Be careful when renting a car. Unfortunately, not the first time a major car rental company's local offices tried (and sometimes succeeded) at scamming me.

I liked that RecordGo were in the main airport terminal. The car was ready and reasonably new (around 20K km and with Apple CarPlay) and RecordGo said they were only interested in scratches of more than 4cm. No fuss, all worked well and I enjoyed several hundred trouble-free km in the vehicle. Drop-off at the end was equally easy.

The whole experience at Hertz was like a scam that I would have never expected from Hertz. Upon arrival we were told that there are 2 options: Option A. We pay more that 4x fold for the agreed price and have some insurance on the rented car. Option B. We have 100% risk for the vehicle, and there is no insurance or excess. (there was option C as well, paying appx. 2.5x agreed price with glass and tires insured, and "premium assistance service", BUT - still 100% risk for the car). There was no option to cancel... We ended up taking option A, which is essentially - "the client buys the car at full retail price (13k EUR) at rental and the company agrees to buy it back once the "rental" is over and in case there is no damage." Total cheating, done to a loyal Hertz client for 10+ years. I am not returning to Hertz again and suggest the others not to do that either. As for Kayak - please check what is being offered to the clients...

Be very careful on car rental pick up and return! We were charged 200 euros for the damage we didn't do! On car return in Barcelona airoport the Hertz employee just took the car keys as he was very busy, didn't check the car with us, we didn't sign ANY papers, and then 2 hours later we're charged 200 euros for the scratch that was already there! But initial car rental report shows the scratch in another place. We even have the pictures and video that we made on car rental day to prove that, but Hertz doesn't care.

Really pushy at the pick-up desk. Said that the insurance I purchased from Priceline wasn't valid and tried to sell me more insurance - really pushed hard for me to buy more. Then tried to sell me an upgrade that was 3x my daily rate, which was more funny than anything else. Rental car places are known for being a bit pushy and dishonest, but this was next level. I wouldn't rent from them again, and have been watching my credit card like a hawk for other "extra" charges.

Pickup experience was fantastic. The staff at the Malaga location were very friendly and helpful. However, we had a change in plans and needed to drop the car off earlier than expected and it would be before they open. Getting ahold of someone to figure out how to schedule that was a pain! I was hung up on 2x and when someone did give me a number to call, they reeled the numbers off super fast then hung up before I could confirm I had it correctly. I don’t think this is an issue with the Málaga location we rented from, but the main corporate lines customer service. Once we were able to get ahold of the right information, drop off went really smoothly.
Counter rep was very friendly and helpful. Spoke good English and helped us pick a car as we were not familiar with the models in Spain. I purchased rentalcover.com for insurance in advance and it was no problem. They didn’t try to sell additional insurance….
Excellent value for money. Only negative on an otherwise very good experience in all contact areas was staff found it difficult to get the vehicle details on our arrival.

I booked pick up for 11 am we got through quicker than expected but when I went to collect at 10.15 am I was told we would have to wait until 11 am so we had to sit in the airport car rental area wasting time. I can see no reason for having to wait. The car itself was scratched, clunky, not the VW Polo advertised and not similar in regard to the driving experience. The Vauxhall we were given was clunky. The tyres were not fully inflated. The oil light came on. The car was clean inside, but grubby on the outside. It had a car rental sticker peeling off on the driver door. The cost was high and poor value for money.
