It was extremely difficult to find the Malaga parking slot near the train station: the address on google point to a hotel parking, which is not the right one. When you finally reach the right parking, good luck for finding the Hertz return spot. After that, you need to walk up to the street level office. By that time you're late and they charge you one extra day. This is the definition of a scam. Besides, they never sent me my contract by email despite me having asked for it.Reviewed May 31 2026

No paperwork given on pickup, no instruction about vehicle operation. We ordered the GPS extra and it didn’t work properly, took the destination but didn’t give instructions until at least 15 minutes of driving. I told them when I returned the car and they did nothing about itReviewed May 4 2026

The whole experience at Hertz was like a scam that I would have never expected from Hertz. Upon arrival we were told that there are 2 options: Option A. We pay more that 4x fold for the agreed price and have some insurance on the rented car. Option B. We have 100% risk for the vehicle, and there is no insurance or excess. (there was option C as well, paying appx. 2.5x agreed price with glass and tires insured, and "premium assistance service", BUT - still 100% risk for the car). There was no option to cancel... We ended up taking option A, which is essentially - "the client buys the car at full retail price (13k EUR) at rental and the company agrees to buy it back once the "rental" is over and in case there is no damage." Total cheating, done to a loyal Hertz client for 10+ years. I am not returning to Hertz again and suggest the others not to do that either. As for Kayak - please check what is being offered to the clients...Reviewed Nov 19 2022

Be very careful on car rental pick up and return! We were charged 200 euros for the damage we didn't do! On car return in Barcelona airoport the Hertz employee just took the car keys as he was very busy, didn't check the car with us, we didn't sign ANY papers, and then 2 hours later we're charged 200 euros for the scratch that was already there! But initial car rental report shows the scratch in another place. We even have the pictures and video that we made on car rental day to prove that, but Hertz doesn't care.Reviewed Oct 3 2022

Really pushy at the pick-up desk. Said that the insurance I purchased from Priceline wasn't valid and tried to sell me more insurance - really pushed hard for me to buy more. Then tried to sell me an upgrade that was 3x my daily rate, which was more funny than anything else. Rental car places are known for being a bit pushy and dishonest, but this was next level. I wouldn't rent from them again, and have been watching my credit card like a hawk for other "extra" charges.Reviewed Dec 6 2021
