I would tell them to hire a chauffeur with his own car and a good driving record. It’s cheaper at the end plus they don’t have to worry about the awful traffic there since the driver would be an expert at it and also responsible for his or hers own vehicle and insurance. Pros:

The pickup/drop off could not have been any closer to the business, it was great.

Cons:

Upfront pricing would have been appreciated. The price you get quoted is GREAT...come to find out it is not the case at all. It is actually 3/4 times more expensive (normal price for US rental). The quote is only for the car BUT you have to get insurance, from Panama (no third party insurance companies outside of country are accepted). So, what started off as a $81 total price for 5 days turned into a $240 price tag AND I had to cancel the third party insurance I purchased (still waiting for my reimbursement).

I was astonished with how much the insurance that they require you to have is. It was just about more than the actual rental. This is something that should be told to us when we rent. Knowing beforehand would be very very helpful

Compact SUV

Booked a Thrifty reservation for 6:00 pm pick up at the PAC airport in Panama City, Panama. HOWEVER all of the airport car rentals in that location close at 5:00 pm. NO where on any of my reservation information did it say that they would be closed. HOW can Kayak/ Thrifty even make and guarantee a reservation time when the location is closed. I also spoke to a representative twice to confirm the car size two days before my arrival. I had to take an Uber to the Thrifty location In Panama City and there- the customer service representatives were extremely helpful. I eventually did get a car (it was vacation week so the options were limited) Also the customer service agents at the office said that they were not surprised, that this happens often.

They don't accept American car insurance companys. That what i was told at the counter. By a ver rude woman. Wich wanted to charge me more 4 times the reservation price. Be careful with the tricks they use.

The car we reserved was not available when we arrived. The only vehicle that could accommodate our passengers and luggage was a truck. The agent charged us the full price for the truck which was considerably more expensive. He said that there was fine print on the webpage explaining that this may happen and we were responsible for the difference in price. Also, the agent didn’t show up for work on the day we returned the car so it took over an hour to find someone who could help us.

Company is not clear about charges and even didn't want to give a printed receipt after we returned the car. Alleging within 30 min you would get by email. We had to insist because we were leaving the city without knowing final charge. When he finally printed the receipt there was 40 dollar difference from what he told us verbally.

Alamo as some others on their groups are nothing but thieves. They scam me from a luxury car to a cheap one claiming that AMEX didn’t cover insurance for the luxury car while holding in their hands a letter from them stating that I was covered. But still charged me the luxury car rate blaming on Kayak taking their share off the top first. In other words they pretty much said not to use Kayak at all. I wouldn’t recommend Alamo or any of their affiliates to a dog. I’m not the first one they’ve done this to.

The reservation was supposed to be a pick up from airport but the car was not there. I had to take taxi to the city and pick it up from another location. Staff at airport was rude. The vehicle had a broken trunk latch, I had to crawl through the back seats to open it from inside everytime, which was a pain in the a** with all the luggage.

Pros:

Professional Staff. Car was ready on arrival. Easy pick up and drop off. Clean vehicle.

Cons:

Mechanical issues with vehicle. For some bizarre reason the outside of the windshield remained fogged up on humid and rainy days. Always had to have the windshield wipers on. Electrical issues with the infotainment center and fuel gage. After fill up gage would show about 85% full, after driving through about a quarter tank of gas the gauge would show full. 25% markup on tolls using the E-pass. Wanted to charge me Collision Insurance, but I declined because I was covered by my credit card, so they applied a different insurance that costs the same.

You booked me a car in a nonexisting company(Economy Rent a car) in Panama city Panama You advised that you would get back to me within 10 business days!!!! I still have heard nothing in March nor seen a refund($1087.86) Beware of Kayak and Priceline! what a way to start a vacation and incure additional cost of money in renting another vehicle at a premium and additional hotel stay while trying to sort this out! This rental was a complete scam! There was no Economy kiosk at the Panama (PTY) airport, the hotel where the cars were supposed to be was closed and there was no economy presence there. Nobody knew anything, and people who did speak to us and took us to a couple of different car rental places at the airport wanted an arm and leg to rent a car. So we used Uber and taxes all week.

Pros:

It was terrible. I booked and arrived to the location to be told that the car was not available and that they had sent me an email. The email had arrived minutes before the rental time! And the cost of the taxi to the rental location? And the time lost in a vacation? Do not trust the cars the rental agencies indicate are available, same thing happened in Hertz at the Panama Airport, I arrive and they indicated that hopefully a client would return the car at the time I had booked the car, of course it never arrived.
