I prepaid to return the car with 1/2 tank of gas. Reason being is that one of the biggest ways to get ripped off in Mexico is at the gas pumps. They will either try to say you gave them 10 bucks rather than the 20 you gave them, or they pump less amount of gas in your car than you paid for.

I recommend ensuring that your car insurance covers in Mexico and getting a letter of international coverage from your credit card, if you're using credit card rental insurance. Show the letter to Fox and demand that they waive their insurance charges. They might say no and tell you to go elsewhere, or tell you that you won't find another car rental at the last minute in Cabo. Don't listen to them. I found a car rental from Cactus at the airport for half the price (after I'd already signed the Fox contract). So just be wary, be prepared, and demand not to be charged a ludicrous price for insurance you don't need. If you don't have international rental coverage through a policy or credit card, then you'll just have to accept their charges.

They did not give me car. I was not able to get a refund. SCAM They say it was overbooked and I had to rent for 3 times the amount on short notice a car from another company. You don't have much choice after a 13h flight in the middle of the night. They said the did not get any money and they too said they are not in charge for refund and I did not get anything in writing.

Reserved a vehicle that would hold 8 people. And when we arrived they were trying to give us a grand Cherokee that only fit 5. They ended up giving us 2 cars to get to our hotel, but the other guy that had to drive was not comfortable driving in Mexico. So we went to the hotel and stayed there. They were supposed to deliver a van later that day after 4. And we after calling and calling they finally brought us a car the following day at around 5pm. So I paid for 3 days. And used the new replacement for a total of 18 hours… still charged me full price, and wanted to charge me for the fuel for the first cars that were driven. When you tell someone you’re going to have something, or tell them you’re going to be somewhere at a certain time then you should do it. I will not be renting with Mex rent a car or using kayak ever again.

You are forced to purchase third-party liability insurance as your credit card coverage or your regular insurance policy is not valid in Mexico. We were aware of this coming down and we were prepared to purchase the insurance. However, $500 for third-party liability for 10 days is ridiculous. The neighbour in the condo we were staying pays $300 for the whole year for his liability insurance .
The absolute most rudest staff & human beings we have ever had to work with. Customer service is horrible. I have already submitted a claim. Run away from this place! Complete scam of a company. Over charging for insurance. Staff will curse at you when you ask for paper work. My wife took a video of the situation which has now been posted all over social media. We hope we shine some light for those who would even consider renting a car here. Run away! Do not rent a car from the Europcar in Cabo airport area literally a few steps from the arrival & departure of the airport. We are disgusted & can believe my family had to endure these ruthless acts from these unprofessional people.

Why are we booking at such a low rate and believe that is the TOTAL price as the website says then figure out we need to pay 4x the price at the spot. Then I extended for another 2 days and it was over $120 for the 2 days. Super misleading and that is definitely Kayak's fault for quoting such low rates, I wish they would honor the rate that I was quoted before I made my way to Mexico and got ripped off because I needed a car. We booked a car for $140 for 6 days. I checked several times to make sure the car rental was at the airport, not with a shuttle. When we arrived, and finally found an attendant for U-Save amongst the crowd when you exit SJD (Cabo) airport, he indicated we would take a shuttle to the car rental office. We still waited 5-10 minutes for the shuttle. When we finally arrived, they said there were mandatory insurance fees of nearly $60/day, which would bring my total closer to $500–that’s more than triple the price I had reserved with. That was supposed to be the total cost. After much back and forth, they said there’s nothing they could do and that this 3rd party insurance is required in Mexico. We were almost going to agree, about to start the paperwork, then they said they would have to charge $1500 as a deposit for incidentals. This was NOT a hold, this was going to be a charge that they would refund. I’ve rented cars before and I understand a deposit for incidentals. But this amount seemed outrageously high, especially in light of the forced insurance. We decided to skip the car rental altogether and just used taxis/Uber to get around. It cost us much much less, and definitely less headache. I would never ever book with U-Save ever again. And generally be wary of renting a car in Cabo for that matter, as they just try to impose additional costs and triple the anticipated cost.

Total scam. They did not have the car we reserved and then charged us money for transport to another company. I recommend avoiding this company.
They forced me into buying full coverage package which was nearly triple the cost I was expecting. They did a relaxed inspection of the car when I picked up and a very thorough inspection when I dropped off, nitpicking things and adding them to their insurance claims which I don’t think I was responsible for. I’m glad I did have the full coverage in the end because I believe they would have charged me for an entire windshield replacement based off a small ding on it from a rock that could have been easily missed on the lazy first inspection. Otherwise car was fine considering the areas terrain and they were efficient, easy to talk to.

At cabo san lucas site, they made up damages and took off the deposit
Not given someone else our reservation since we were not there on time. My SUV was given away to someone else because we did not get there at 12:00pm. Our copilot had a family emergency he Of course had to leave and we were held back for two hours. Needless to say I brought all my family (6 people) and the lady said, “Your car was given to someone else because you weren’t here by 12:00pm. Sorry.” And they did not accommodate us to anything else because they were out of SUV’s. She also said since I reserved it but didn’t pay for it they gave it away. I was so upset. Moral of the story being extra cash because we had to pay triple of what I had reserved my car or just pay the reservation online.

Never rent from Firefly (aka Hurtz). Our total on pick up was TWICE as much as the price quoted with our reservation, and they call a Nissan Kicks (small cross over model) a full size SUV - barely fit 3 people comfortably. Two thumbs down, don’t be a sucker and rent from Firefly.

Although my credit card covers collision, it did not cover liability in Mexico. The daily advertised prices are steep and will cut into peoples budget. I understand that I have to play the game, but it is very disappointing that I find this out at the counter and not before.

The staff was super awesome and friendly, wait time was insanely ridiculous- we waited over three hours from the time we got dropped off by the shuttle until we we drove out. I’ve rented cars in other countries and this one by far one of the slowest processes ever. And remember the price kayak quotes is just for the car-not for everything else they throw in at the counter. My price on kayak was $188 and I ended up paying $572 all said and done. In the end it was kinda worth it all.
No one was at office and after calling 4 different numbers got someone who said they were out of cars. They promised to call back to arraign a pick up but did not. Totally worst car rental experience in my life - and I’m old!

Worst experience ever. They did not have any vans that I reserved. They had no cars that would accommodate luggage. Why did I bother reserving when nothing was available. Told us to talk to the guy/company next to him that he was talking to before we walked up. They could accommodate us for more than 3 times my reserved price. Thrifty could care less. They need to be removed as an option. We had to then find transportation to the hotel. I will not use Kayak again.

Pros:
There is a reason this shows up as the cheapest rate when you search via the internet. What they don't mention is the required mexican tax liabilty insurance that for us was DOUBLE the car rental rate. Everyone at Thrifty rental was furious in line at this hidden fee. Staff was rude, lines were long. Myself, husband and four kids had to wait over an hour for a DIRTY car that was way smaller than what I reserved. Never again.

Cons:
staff was very rude, tried to overcharge me multiple times (added more days, insurance I didn't need, etc.). Overall, it was a terrible experience and the price charged for the rental pales in comparison to the other hidden fees that are added on once you arrive. I will never be using this service again
